14 Militant atheists have their panties all in a knot over a water tower in OK with the name of a church on the side. The town needed a new water tower due to expanding population but the land they needed was owned by a local Baptist church. The church agreed to allow them an easement to build the tower on their land as long as they put the name of their church on the side. The town agreed and so it happened.

Now a group of out of State radical anti-religion assholes are threatening court action if they do not remove the sign. So far the town as told them to piss up a rope and they refuse to knuckle under. Good for them. And should the out of State assholes seek court action they would never get it in an honest court. Since they are out of State it would be impossible to get standing since they live nowhere near the water tower and thus have no injury to address.

Morning, 'rons and 'ronettes. Thanks for the extra-large helping of news today, Vic.

The actor Sir Cedric Hardwicke - probably best known as the pharaoh Seti in The Ten Commandments - had a little unpleasantness happen when King George VI knighted him in 1934. As the actor knelt before the monarch, the Lord Chamberlain read out his name - "Cedric Hardwicke" - to which George barked, "Who?"

The chamberlain repeated the name, but the king didn't get it the second time, snapping, "Spell it."

But that didn't help either. As Hardwicke later wrote, the king finally whacked Sir Cedric on the back with his jeweled sword and dubbed him, rather testily, "Sir Samuel Pickwick."

And since I mentioned The Ten Commandments, here's a pic of Anne Baxter as Nefretiri:

Even if they were 100% reliable and ran continuously wind power would average 15 cents a KW/hr cost. That is many multiples higher than what regular power costs. But to add insult to injury they only run when the wind is blowing above a certain speed which in most places is not often. Throw in their high maintenance bills and it becomes insane. The last plant I worked at the average 3 year cost of generation was 0.3 cent/KWh

If we had not had an incompetent communist in the WH and two years of communist control in congress all those windmills would have never been built.

And Obama cronies are the ones that built them.

Anne Baxter was gawjus but she had huge hands.

Whenever I see a picture of an actress in a DeMille film, I always look at the feet first. In his early days - I don't know how long the fetish continued - DeMille was notorious for having a thing about feet and it was well-known around the casting offices that an actress stood a much better chance of getting a part in one of his movies if she had pleasant pedal extremities.*

Paulette Goddard took the rumor to its logical extent when she was trying out for 1940s North West Mounted Police, marching into DeMille's office and putting her bare feet up on his desk.

She got the part.

*but don't wear toenail polish. DeMille hated that.

92 In an official statement first obtained by Breitbart Texas, the National Border Patrol Council (NBPC) endorsed Donald Trump for President of the United States. The unusually bold statement comes just days after a senior policy adviser for Trump made clear that future U.S. border security policy would be largely determined by the men and women of the U.S. Border Patrol who are actual agents protecting the border and not by politically-appointed bureaucrats in the Border Patrol or its parent agency, Customs and Border Protection ( CBP ), if Trump is elected.

The endorsement is the first-ever in a presidential primary for the NBPC. The agents' statement makes clear that Trump's public pledge to secure the border by turning to the actual agents in the NBPC is revolutionary and an opportunity never-before-seen and one that may never be seen again. They wrote, "Mr. Trump will take on special interest and embrace the ideas of rank-and-file Border Patrol agents rather than listening to the management yes-men who say whatever they are programmed to say. This is a refreshing change that we have not seen before - and may never see again."

111 I took yesterday off to find a new car for my wife...

My daughter wants her current vehicle, so we went looking. With all the new technology available, I finally found something worth while.

Lexus and Toyota have a new option that feeds the conversation in the front seat through the speaker system so that the back seat occupants hear it in a normal volume.

As someone who is getting a bit older and who is constantly asking in crowded restaurants with loud background sounds "What?", I was amazed at how well this worked. As my wife drove and spoke with the salesman in the front, I sat in the back and marveled at how perfectly the sound was transferred.

My cars have all had built in microphones for the past 15 years or so. Where has this bit of magic been?

139 Just an observation. I'm in the Midwest, surrounded by windmills. As time goes by, more and more of them seem to be inoperative. It's looking like the craze may be dying down.

Funny they could spend a fortune building them but can't seem to find the funds to keep them going. Of course, that's the history of liberal government from day one.

One of the core technologies I work with is vibration management system for aircraft and industrial equipment. Several years ago we made a push to the wind farm market - thought it made lots of sense. Uptime, lower maintenance costs, prop balance for efficient ops, extend TBO, etc. Based on decades of aviation experience.

Got the door slammed in our faces. The entire market was based on the construction subsidy/tax credit/kick back and the ongoing subsidy for having wind farms on your grid, NOT cost of operations or life cycle costs.

All they've done is define poverty higher. In effect, they've raised their cost-of-living and saved no one from what they claim-- Indeed, they've taken all those people who had moved up from the minimum wage and pushed them back to the bottom again.

Now less people will be hired, so they've increased poverty that way, too.

I fear that the low-infos will protect Ryan. They are, for some stupid reason, proud that their rep is Speaker of the House. They don't have the foggiest idea about his actual voting record or actions, but hey, he's House Speaker and is on TV a lot! We don't want some nobody taking his place!

161 Even if they were 100% reliable and ran continuously wind power would average 15 cents a KW/hr cost.

Posted by: Vic We Have No Party at March 30, 2016 06:47 AM (vvmPQ)

The main problem with these wind farms is that the blades on the rotors are in fact precision airfoils, rather like an aircraft's wing. They were build very precisely in order to get the maximum efficiency from the wind blowing over them.

Problem is, as they turn (when they turn), the airfoils inevitably hit countless bugs and birds, getting bug and bird splatter on them, which disrupts the airflow over the surfaces and hence reducing their efficiency.

This is why when you see one of these "wind farms" (yeah, we have a lot of them here in Texas too), half of the damn rotors are not spinning, largely due to the airfoils being "dirty", so to speak. And the require very large and elaborate cleaning rigs to keep the bug splat and whatnot to a minimum so they will work at all. You tax dollars at work....

168 "This insanity of raising the minimum wage is going to destroy the states and small businesses.
"

Liberals seem to think somebody that was already making $15/hr due to experience and seniority will be happy being surrounded by people with no skill or seniority making the same amount. They will now want at least $20/hr, if not more. Now the guy making $20 will not be happy and will (quite reasonably) insist on $28. All the way up the wage scale the same will hold true.

But raising the minimum wage will not cause inflation. Because good intentions are what matters.

170 My liberal acquaintances never met a minimum wage hike they didn't like.

To shut them up, I always ask "Why $15? Why not $50?" And there was a lot of hemming and hawing, but I always got the sense that the self-imposed limitation was political, eg it's a number that would "sell" and not a number that was grounded in reality.

Because if reality were a factor, there would *be* no minimum wage.

Recently I heard a pundit say that if Trump applies tariffs, the cost of IPhones will increase dramatically. Yet these pundits do not realize that raising the minimum wage will have the effect on the economy that are already in effect for manufacturing. Cognitive disconnect.

178 Detroit officials, 12 of whom were school principles,

Unpossible. There are no "school principles."

In these parts, where the ability to put that nice round smooth edge on glassware was kind of a Big Thing for quite awhile, the initial gut-reaction to natural gas power generation has always been "Why waste it like that?"

Natural gas is an important chemical feedstock, and can do certain heat-management jobs no other fuel can do. Blowing it up the stack to make electricity is just retarded.

Also, an awful lot of NG power generation is in emergency-style "peaker" units -- most cities are ringed with them, conceptualized as things that would run a few hours a day, but now raging away 24/7 at a ridiculous efficiency rate. They're like jet engines, with no recovery of waste heat at all. A Lima superpower locomotive or a triple-expansion marine steam engine puts them to shame.

To make those economically viable, it was necessary to define the now-infinitessimal amount of mercury, and of course all the CO2, in coal exhaust as poison. This "lives saved per year" computation is a good example of how you can lie with mathematics and make it look like Science. Scares the rubes good.

179 ...But raising the minimum wage will not cause inflation...

Raising the minimum wage will cause deflation. Because Feds and States don't want to raise unemployment insurance, SS payments, SNAP...

Automation will increase and employment will decrease. They will need to spread EBT card loading out over more days of the month. Right now you can check out at a Walmart with no waiting. Two days from now you will have a hard time finding a parking spot.

They're afraid to deviate from the script their leaders have given them because they know they really don't understand the economics of it. $15/hr they can parrot, because their leaders do.

That was always the smart move anyway.

Knock off that chump or drive him down to low (1-3%) single digits, and then

That way you can force him to take a stand on issues and not have to resort to incredibly lame "issues" like Fields.

184 We should follow the DPRK plan for electrical power. Turn if off at night after 11, and turn it on in the morning, and sort of keep it going off and on all day. Just think of the savings, and not having to replace all those nasty coal and NG power plants. Win, Win.....
