110 I've got a LE friend on the ground in Brussels. He just sent me pictures of the airport and the Metro car. It's bad, really, bad. At least 24 dead and close to 100 injured with many grievous injuries. Both locations were suicide bombers, multiple at the airport.

The Metro explosion was from inside a crowded car with a crowded platform. The car was destroyed from the inside out.

130 I've just finished reading Ace's article from yesterday in which he basically gives up on the 2016 elections. Apparently, he's convinced that Trump will lose to Hillary in a landslide and that everyone is too stupid to see what he sees.

That's OK.

We're all here because we enjoy Ace's writing and the way he hosts the website. Ace is a talented writer, but that's the extent of it.

As far as I can tell, Ace isn't a talented political strategist. Neither is Eric Ericson or the insufferable twit Charles CW Cooke.

For some reason, writers who write about politics tend to think of themselves as great thinkers, endowed with sophisticated insight into all things political. I'm certain interpretive dancers who concentrate on politics believe they have the same powers of perception, but it's a little harder to understand their output considering how the Trees and Birds would be unhappy under a Trump presidency.

Ace is a person who is influenced by polls. He went through a traumatic event where he let himself be talked into thinking the polls were wrong and then, unfortunately, they proved right.

He has apparently vowed to never make that mistake again.

The same is true for others who will never be convinced there is a chance of anything happening until it's confirmed by pollsters. That's OK too. We need to respect were they're at and help them along in this frightening time.

Like in the "Airport" movies, you've always got one person screaming "We're all going to die!". All we can do is keep slapping them until they're not so hysterical.

In Ace's defense, he and the pollsters are absolutely correct.

If the exact same number of people who voted in 2012 vote in the same percentages of demographic groups with the same enthusiasm as they did then, Trump will lose to Hillary.

It's math. You can't argue with that.

Of course, some will argue that Trump is filling stadiums and Hillary has to pay people to fill the Velvet Room at the Ramada Inn. That doesn't show up in the polls because that's not how it worked for Obama, and that's the only data we have right now.

With such a concerted effort to deny Trump the nomination, it is going to be pretty touchy around here for next few months. At this point in the primaries, I would expect Trump to swivel and become more presidential to begin to set up the General campaign. Hopefully, this adjustment will calm Ace and others down to the point that they quit obsessing on his hands and the quirky way he enjoys ripping the arms off of women.

My brother is a big Bernie supporter. I have a lot of fun with that and enjoy it immensely when we get together for dinners and family gatherings. The same thing goes for AoSHQ. I have fun with differing points of view, but always believe everyone is basically a good person.

We need to keep things in perspective over these next many months, otherwise, like the crazy guy back in seat 34C is screaming, we're all going to die.

The term "religious freedom" did not exist in the 1600s. Yet in my years in grammar school and high school the common refrain in history classes was the pilgrims came to the colonies for "religious freedom".

They, and others, came to the colonies to establish their own State religion. SC was established solely on a profit basis and actually did welcome all religions. And I wish whoever "borrowed" my college SC history book would return it. I hate to buy another one because, like all college text books, it was expensive as hell.

No, it isn't.

There is an inalienable right to own a gun, protected by the 2nd amendment. There is no inalienable right to enter this country as an immigrant, tourist, or anything else. The law and the history of this country has made that very clear. Hell, even US Citizens re-entering the country have their rights curtailed vis a vis searches and things. Simply put, there's plenty of legal authority to restrict entry however we want to.

But if you insist on equating the two, then why are you holding back? If we applied the same anal exam an American has to go through at an FFL to muslims trying to enter this country, that would still be an improvement over what's going on now.

And that enhanced screening just isn't possible right now - DHS and the other alphabet agencies don't have the data needed to make it effective. And that's assuming they even try, which they aren't doing.

So until that happens, even under rational basis (which is more scrutiny than is frankly required), the legitimate interest at play here demands that we eliminate muslim immigration until we can be assured that the applicant is not a terrorist or terrorism sympathizer.

There is a vast difference between "doing nothing" and "banning all of them". I think you are presenting a false dilemma.

If the ban-Muslims crowd just stopped at "halting immigration of people from majority Muslim countries which have a history of violent support for terrorism" then that would be one form of "enhanced screening" that would be more effective than doing nothing, but not such a blanket ban that it affects people who have nothing to do with terrorism.

He posits that the primary motive behind serial murder, for example,is sexual gratification, and considered the term 'sexual sadist' far more accurate than 'serial killer'. I would guess that motive translates easily enough into terrorism.
