12 No news today. Slept too late and besides, its all Trump all the time. I am sick of Trump Trump Trump. The MFM is still blaming the Chicago riot on Trump when it is widely known on the internet that the whole thing was instigated and coordinated by Sanders and Move On.

15 And DST is a BS racket that the merchants have paid the politicians to inflict on us. It doesn't save a damn thing and anybody who claims it does is an AGW liar. It provides an extra hour of daylight after work which the stupid merchants think will increase shopping.

19 12 ... Vic, Enjoy a day off from the "news". You are right: there isn't an MFM outlet (including Fox) that isn't lying through its transmitter. I get more timely and accurate info here on Ace. Even if I was a Trump enthusiast, which I'm not, the coverage would be, at best, tiresome.

Hope the weather where you are is front porch and rocking chair pleasant. If I had a porch, I would be on it, puffing a pipe with good Virginia tobacco, a cup of coffee and a good book. At least until the Book Thread begins in a few hours.

Favorite shows, IIRC was one called "Insight" where A-list actors appeared in modern dramas with religious parables and crises as the themes. Will have to look that one up.

And of course, "Davey and Goliath." LOVED that show.

The local radio station here starts Sunday morning with a show that does gospel songs. Then they switch to a local Baptist church that does an early service. Then the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Then another round of church services. Then more choir stuff. Then finally by about 3:30 in the afternoon they will go back to their normal crap of beach music and old rock. And I hate beach music.

One of my favorite one hit wonders (if you could even call it that since I only knew of it when I was music director at WBCR Brooklyn College Radio) was a tune called "There's No Surf in Cleveland" by the Euclid Beach Band. If you hate Jan and Dean and the Beach Boys, then ignore it, but they pull off a pretty good send up of that sound.

The story is that it got the name Beach Music because it originated as dance music at Myrtle Beach for the "shag" which was popular back many years ago. They still have shag clubs around here but it is almost all old geezers like me.

87 There was a Jimmy Buffet themed casino in Biloxi, Margaritaville, that lasted a couple of years before going belly up last year.

Their business plan was to make hay off of the large ParrotHead contingent in the South, I guess. Charging $12 for a margarita in a casino where casino drinks are usually free everywhere else is NOT a sustainable business plan. They also started out with no player rewards program, a mistake they tried to fix several months after opening.

No shuffling around texting, like zombies back then. Nostalgic [sniff, sniff, HONK].

113 "At this point I will explain how bacon may be eaten to the best effect... if it has been simply roasted in the same way as a joint of meat, the fat drains into the fire and the bacon becomes dry, and whoever eats it is harmed and not benefited; it also produces bad humors and causes indigestion. But if bacon that has been boiled and cooled is eaten, it is more beneficial... As for raw bacon which, so I hear, the Franks have a habit of eating... they are healthier than other people because of this food. Let me give a good example so that what I am writing may be believed: thick bacon, placed for a long time on all wounds, be they external or internal or caused by a blow, both cleanses any putrefaction and aids healing. Look at what power there is in raw bacon, and see how the Franks heal what doctors try to cure with drugs or with potions."

Back in the old days in the South they simply shut the schools down during harvest season. There was no DST. And farmers have always opposed DST because it hampers farming schedules. DST has always been a tool of the buisness community. And some States do not observe it.

There has been only one study that said DST saved energy. And it was debunked almost immediately. Most energy experts say that it saves nothing. It only trades energy use between morning and night.

In the meanwhile, for ten years, individuals have gone into active service, trained, fought and then transitioned back into civilian life.

Estimates of several years about put civilian ownership of firearms at

Not saying who I believe would win, but if even 90% of the civilian firearms are NOT used, at the urban level, that is an interesting ratio.

194 This thread is dead, so I'll just ramble...

I went back and skimmed the thread from yesterday to see what I missed. Ace was in one of his moods, so I'm glad I was away.

The first observation was that Ace did recognize that Cruz, Rubio and predictably Kasich all lacked the basic political instincts to immediately know the correct position on Trump's Chicago rally.

What does is say about a potential nominee who is so fucking clueless, so devoid of instinctual reactions that when given the situation in Chicago they come out 180 degrees from the correct and popular position? How can anyone who cares about the country entrust the leadership to someone who fails such a basic test of logic, reason and courage?

Sure, given a few days and talks with advisors (who should have been smart enough to figure this out as events unfolded), Cruz eventually tried to backpedal to an acceptable position. But that's not how the world works in real time. Presidents are called on to know how to handle situations immediately.

People who are true leaders have the talent to know what is correct. Posers don't. Situations like this help us tell who is which.

With this evidence, only the most rabid, blind-to-any-facts Cruz supporters would continue on in their quest to push him to the nomination. While flailing for a reason to back their obviously unqualified choice, they look to tear down the popular candidate.

By making him scary.

Ace is now trying equate Trump to a facist. He argues that statements by Trump that favor a "strong" leader and government mean that he wants an oppressive, authoritarian government.

For some reason that I can't understand, Ace sees Trump as someone who has been longing and plotting to capture government power for decades. Even though this is basically the main theme of the Clinton family, somehow Trump fits the casting in Ace's narrative.

I, on the other hand, see Trump as someone who is fed up like I am at the sheer incompetence and indifference of the government, and as someone who sees himself as a person with the talent to fix it.

Over the course of the this primary and the past elections we have all witnessed the many iterations the press, democrats and GOP elite go through to destroy people who threaten the status quo.

They start with ridicule, accusations, disclosures and whatever they can throw on the wall to see if it will stick. When one thing doesn't work, they move to another. Eventually, they find something for those prone to suggestion to glob onto.

Hey, doesn't that support pledge look like a Nazi salute? You bet.

As with all struggles of this sort, it doesn't matter what the opposition says about you. The only thing that causes permanent damage is when people on your own side start saying the same things.

We don't have anyone backing us up in that sense.

The people who write for the right believe much of what the left thinks. Without thinking, their basic worldview has been shaped by their environment and fundamental "truths" that everyone in their sphere takes as settled science.

Certainly republicans are racist. If they weren't wouldn't they be democrats?

Is there a right wing writer in New York or DC who doesn't believe this, deep down?

I support Trump, and did not like having Ace try to equate Trump and. Fascist, but I attributed it to Ace living in NYC while I live in flyover country ( Michigan), but a part of Micigan that is aware of what democrat rule does. Flint Michigan and their water problems is a good example. I live in a suburb of Detroit ( Birmingham) and all of the suburbs have had to pick up the slack in the water departments budget due to Detroit residents refusing to pay their water bills. And Detroit is ruled by democrats, as is Flint. And eventually the damage they do is impossible to hide any longer.

199 Up thread there are some posts about Cruz "winning" Wyoming and how Drudge has nothing on his newspage because Trump didn't win it.

I brought this up yesterday and even Fox news has managed to catch up to what went on in Wyoming yesterday.

There has been no winner declared in Wyoming because no one has won it yet. Wyoming held a caucus yesterday to elect COUNTY delegates, who will in turn go to the state convention to represent their county constituents directives of who they want as a presidential candidate. On April 16, Wyoming will once again hold another caucus, this time for the actual State delegates who will go to the National convention to represent Wyoming. This is where trying to figure out how the county delegates enter in the picture is almost impossible from the information I've been able to find online. Somehow the county delegates will influence the not yet elected State delegates.

Cruz received the most caucus votes yesterday for county delegates. But he has not "won" Wyoming yet, as Wyoming has not completed it's primary caucus.

So this is why there is not a declared "winner" on Drudge or other news sites.

Unless the protesters themselves got violent or snuck into a ticketed event without a ticket, they have done nothing illegal that he can have them arrested for cause being an annoying and loud asshole IS NOT ILLEGAL. Now once they are asked to leave by an employee of the venue, they could be arrested for trespassing if they refuse but that would not be Trump's call.

Maybe you haven't been to an event where a protester has staged himself.
Try having one of these major assholes standing next to you , jumping up and down, screaming , swearing, swinging their sign etc. Then have them do this non stop, harassing you as you try to move away.

If you are holding a public assembly and someone or a group comes in and disrupts it by screaming, yelling , threatening, jumping on the stage, etc. they are 1. interfering with my right to peacefully assemble 2. ability to give and receive 'free speech".

It's called harassment, and terrorism. We have laws against both, although this current adminstration ignores and supports both.

Partially correct Jen. The county caucuses (caucii?) process actually delegated a portion (11) of the 29 delegates available. Of those 11, Cruz got 9 (Trump got one delegate as did Rubio and Kasich got none). There is another process (or processes) that will delegate the other 18 delegates but they will likely split along the same lines as the county delegates. So it would be more accurate to say that Cruz won the first caucus but that more delegates remain to be apportioned.

The split of the old republican party into the "authoritarian" Trumpists and the milktoast Mewling Quims.

The MQ's believe that, depending on the subject matter and how it fits into the Social Warrior's list of causes, any speech should be interrupted or forbidden so as not to hurt anyone's feelings.

As a Trumpist, my only question now is should we adopt some form of uniform so that we fulfill the fantasies of the MQs?

Since I have been active in the Tea Party movement for years, I have been to many, many events where leftist were straightforwardly screaming leftist BS and to many events where leftists tried to act like Tea Partiers and then started shorting racist slogans to try and discredit the movement (the latter were dealt with by someone following them around with signs identifying them as MoveOn plants).

Here is the thing, your right to assemble does not negate leftists' right to be as stupid as they want at a public event so long as they don't get violent. Free speech runs in all directions and you have no right to violate someone else's right to speak their mind if you expect your own rights to not be at someone else's whim. The first amendment is meant to protect all speech... even speech that you may find repugnant and wrong.

And it is stupid to call speech without violence "harassment" or "terrorism" although I am sure that there are many college students would agree with you (just about your speech not theirs).

For example, I personally don't like Trump's hair, or his often repetitive answers that have no detail about policy, etc.
I'm not impressed that he has been married three times. I'm not impressed that he felt at his age, having a child (Barron) was a good idea , in that the child will grow up having a great grandfather as a dad and then no dad at a much earlier age than typical.
Is he my ideal candidate? No, not at all.

But if he is the Republican candidate vs. Hillary, I will vote for him. Because no matter what, we are going to be electing a president and I know how policy wise, Hillary is going to be as president. Trump I have more hope for.

Posted by: Jen the original at March 13, 2016 10:43 AM (rKNmI)

All the things that go beyond speech (violence, blocking public thoroughfares, etc) are already illegal and people would presumably be arrested for them... if they are not being arrested, then the police are not doing their jobs and need to start doing that.

But that is not what you initially argued. You said them being at event being loud and obnoxious violated other attendees right to assembly (which it doesn't) and that it was harassment and terrorism (which it isn't).

229 Around 5 policemen were injured on Friday night at the protest of Trump's rally

Posted by: Skip at March 13, 2016 11:01 AM (fizMZ)

230 213 Vic... I heard the statement and it sounded to me
like he meant protesters inside his events (he was talking about having
them arrested himself and not the police keeping order). Again, violence
is illegal and people should be arrested for that but he did not in any
way single out violent protesters.

Posted by: redbanzai at March 13, 2016 10:37 AM (NPofj)

You read the wrong article.

Trump's comments follow a weekend of campaign events marred by protests
and violence, which started with the cancellation of a rally Friday
night in Chicago and included arrests, clashes between supporters and
protesters and a would-be stage crasher.

Also included with that was four injured cops at that Chicago riot.

Posted by: Vic-we have no party at March 13, 2016 11:02 AM (t2KH5)

231 Unless the rally is held on government property it's
a private event and the people holding the event have the right to do
what's necessary to ensure their right to assemble, and they have a
right to defend themselves from physical threats whether the event is
public or private.

Posted by: All Teh Meh at March 13, 2016 10:40 AM (yos+4)

I am not sure you are correct about most of Trump's events being on government property but assuming you are right, that increases not decreases the protesters right to be there.

Chicago is accustomed to large crowds. The big news was that six people were arrested at the last Blackhawks rally (a few million people). Really do not think that CPD is all that worried about some political rallies. However, I do think it is time for all of us to 'check our privilege' and see who is causing disruptions and who is arrested. Certain privileged classes do appear to get a pass when it comes to disruptions.

Vic I don't think I am wrong (and the reading I gave his statement is the same one that RedState did).

He would not be talking about pressing charges for violent behavior against other people as that would be up to those people and the police. Nor would he be talking about protesters outside the venues as that would be a police matter having nothing to do with him also. He was talking about protesters inside the venues.

Posted by: redbanzai at March 13, 2016 11:21 AM (NPofj)

235 Redbanzai,
Here is what I said upthread. As an attendee at past Tea Party rallys, I have personally experienced the following.
"Try having one of these major assholes standing next to you ,
jumping up and down, screaming , swearing, swinging their sign etc. Then
have them do this non stop, harassing you as you try to move away. "

"If you are holding a public assembly and someone or a group comes in
and disrupts it by screaming, yelling , threatening, jumping on the
stage, etc. they are 1. interfering with my right to peacefully assemble
2. ability to give and receive 'free speech". "

Notice I said "threatening".
Being loud and obnoxious happens at events that range from rock concerts to Nascar events. (which by the way, because Nascar is technically a private event, I've seen people escorted out because they were standing up calling a driving a stupid "f " ) .

These people are not simply loud and obnoxious, because that doesn't serve their purpose. Their purpose is to escalate the threat of violence until participants at the rally are intimidated enough that they leave. So they ratchet up the behavior until they achieve their goal. And they do not in the least have a limit. They will do whatever it takes, including violence and threats.

I was at a tea party rally where a mom and her two kids left because the kids were crying and terrified of this bearded, screaming goon yelling and pointing at the crowd, including their mom. I wanted to get behind him and kick him in the nuts.

Then I would have been the one going to jail.

236 Some of commie Sanders' advisors must have hit him with a clue bat because he is now denying anything to do with the violent riots in Chicago. However, WZ has the goods on him and Moveon. Moveon is not only not denying it, they are taking credit for it. One wonders if they know can be prosecuted for that shit.

237 Jen... I too have been at rallies with truly obnoxious protesters. If they get truly violent, then they are arrested (assuming the police are doing their job which may be a big assumption in certain areas).

If they are just shouting in screaming (even in such a way that scares small children) there are better ways of dealing with it than trying to have them arrested when they have done nothing illegal. Obviously the best way would be to engage them in debate. Since that seldom works, there are also the options of singing patriotic songs which frustrates them to no end OR putting the big guys in the crown between protesters and the women and children. What you don't get to do if you want your own rights respected is violate another group's rights.

As I said earlier, being an obnoxious asshole is not illegal and the 1st amendment is meant to protect speech that we might find absolutely repugnant.

Stadiums and arenas are almost never public property... they are incorporated even when funded by Tax Dollars....

And even in the Public square, on public land, you RENT the venue.... and thus get some property rights via the rental agreement.

Some you rent, some you just have to get a rally permit... either way, if it is not a ticketed event it is open to the public. That includes obnoxious leftists.

Meanwhile, The Douche opines:

Ross Douthat

the party's convention rules, in all their anachronistic, undemocratic and highly-negotiable intricacy, are also a line of defense, also a hurdle, also a place where a man unfit for office can be turned aside.

So in Cleveland this summer, the men and women of the Republican Party may face a straightforward choice: Betray the large minority of Republicans who cast their votes for Trump, or betray their obligations to their country.

For a party proud of its patriotism, the choice should not be hard.

Notice you didn't bother to read the article before chiming in.

Where he states even if Trump has a majority or the delegates, if he has only a plurality of the popular vote he should be denied the nomination, contrary to the rules of the process, by any means necessary.
