Video Seems to Show Trump Campaign Manager Corey Lewandowski Grabbing Breitbart Reporter Michelle Fields

Ben Shapiro calls For Lewandowski's firing, calling the incident "repulsive."

What you're seeing here is the first example of Donald Trump's foreign policy -- creating a crisis and completely fragging your one of your only allies.

Creating your own crisis, then making it worse and worse for you and all your allies. Because your ego cannot take the minor hit of putting out a printed apology

Video here, at the Daily Beast.

Audio of the incident here, where you can hear Washington Post reporter Brian Terris immediately identify Corey Lewandowski as the man who grabbed her.

Terris: "You OK?"

Fields: "Holy sh*t."

Terris: "Yea he just threw you down."

Fields: “I can't believe he just did that that was so hard. Was that Corey?"

Terris: “Yeah, like, what threat were you?"

Fields: "That was insane. You should have felt how hard he grabbed me. That's insane. I've never had anyone do that to me from a campaign."

Terris: "Can I put that in my story?"

Fields: "Yeah, go for it -- that was really awful. That's so unprofessional."

Terris: "He really just almost threw you down on the ground."

Fields: "He literally went like this and was grabbing me down. I don't even want to do what he just did to me. Oh my God, that really spooked me that someone would do that."

Terris: "What threat were you?"

Fields: "Nothing. I was asking about affirmative action."

Terris: "And he probably knows you, right?"

Fields: "Yeah, I don't understand. That looks horrible. You're going after a Breitbart reporter, the people who are nicest to you?"

A lot of Trump supporters said that if Fields had really been assaulted, she should file charges. This was their idea of calling her bluff.

Well, now she's filed charges, and the Jupiter, Florida police are investigating the assault, and they have a fair amount of evidence to start with.

Now begins the process of all the people saying "Didn't happen, she's a nut and a slut" turning to "What does it matter who touched who or where?"

Exactly like as in the Clinton/Lewinsky matter.

These "tough guys" who fling women around have also put Breitbart -- the one news outfit firmly behind them -- in an impossible position. They can only continue agitating for Trump in these circumstances at the expense of their own credibility -- which, in turn, diminishes how effective they can be agitating for Trump.

Gotta be tough. Gotta toss some women around to show how tough you are. Then, after you do it, you do what "tough guys" do -- you like like a little f*cking baby.

All because some men have a backwards, primitive, shame-culture type conception of "honor" that includes simply lying like a little child instead of doing the honorable thing and apologizing.

And Now Breitbart's Spokesman Kurt Bardella Quits: As I said: An impossible situation.

Gotta be "tough." Gotta be so boorish and ugly that your very allies tear themselves apart in response to your thuggishness.

Obviously, Trump's gonna win the election -- Why, he's going to win back all those white women who have been voting Democrat for a decade.

Because they're erotically aroused by his "alphaness" or something. They can smell his Trumpian pheremones through the TV screen.

Sure.

30 The worst part of this, and the most inexplicable, is the way they went after this woman afterward and tried to smear and discredit her.

Over something this minor -- something that could have been fixed with a simple apology.

This is a window into what sort of goon squad you'll be electing if he wins. "Oh but he's our goon this time" -- until he decides he's not. This is how he treats his backers. The word "asshole" does not do Trump justice.

48 You make these things go away by making a simple apology without accepting blame. Misunderstanding, accident etc. This is part of common courtesy that makes you look good to others as well as defusing any dispute. But it looks like Trump was never taught that in his H.S. Military Academy.

If this was an assault situation,I think you'd see more reaction from those around her, which I don't see, either.

I also think the WaPo reporter is the one who told her she was almost knocked to the ground and that he egged her on.

I do believe the guy grabbed her hard, but I think he's allowed to keep people away from his client. (Maybe he's not legally, but then how do bouncers and bodyguards not get arrested for assault all the time?)

But, as God is my witness, I don't see what other people are claiming to see in those videos! They're almost troll quality! In one, the camera's not focusing on the right area to be revealing, and in the other one, the camera seems to leap upward just before the critical moment!

I'm not saying it didn't happen, but the videos currently being shown around don't seem to prove it did, even though people are saying they do.

The only thing that video showed was the position of Lewandowski relative to another man of similar appearance, but did not show the incident itself. Well, at least not in the version I saw. Perhaps there is another.

My take of this newest video is that it isn't at all clear that it is Lewandowski's hand grabbing her, but it does show in the seconds prior he was making a beeline for her.

What I see is Lewandowski reaching for Fields then pulling back then reaching even further for her right as they pass out of the camera's field of view.

So you don't see contact between them or her stumbling. But the video is consistent with the story that she and the other witnessing reporter have told from the beginning.

didn't say it would, only that could if it plays out like we are being told it happened. That's the first clue to reserve judgement for me, when I'm being told that it's so clear, when I can't see it looking at the same evidence.

241 It's like, Trump can't get stopped, his supporters won't budge, so stuff keeps getting brought up to denigrate Trump if he doesn't do "something" and also to attack the sanity and "other-ize" Trump supporters.

So if you still support Trump, after all we've told you you are a mouth-breather. That didn't work? You're a LIV! No? Did you not hear about the KKK and David Duke? You don't care? Racist! Did you hear that his thug manhanded an innocent reporter-woman and grabbed her so hard she suffered bruises? Now are you going to admit to supporting Trump reflects so badly on you? No? What do we, who have decided Trump is everything that is bad... what do we have to accuse him of or you of to get you to change you mind??? Eleventy!

I get it. It's sad.

It makes it increasingly impossible, with all this baggage for folks to get along, to laugh, to support the candidate who emerges. It's as if, the SJW harpiness has invaded all spaces... and that I say this.... I'm racist, an excuses-maker and racist. That makes it impossible for me to say anything, which is the point. Last thread you posted a summary of the facts so far. Did you see my comment?

- video of Lewandowski reaching for Fields at the moment that she reported that she was grabbed.
- audio of people talking about the incident right after it occurred
- another reporter (Terris) who witnessed the incident and says it was Lewandowski who grabbed her
- Breitbart's Matthew Boyle says that Lewandowski admitted to him that he grabbed her

------------------------------------
Are you up to date, Maet?

Breitbart: "New video of Donald Trump's press conference Tuesday evening shows that the Washington Post's account of an altercation involving Breitbart News reporter Michelle Fields could not possibly have happened as Ben Terris reported."

Matthew Boyle denies making that statement.

Oh, so she's a battered woman? That's stretching it a bit. I too, a woman of small stature have been in many large, jostling crowds, however I did not seek to make myself a national news story over it, nor did I press charges.

There are a dozen videos of this scene and not one single one shows a battery. The whole incident is ridiculous and this woman seems to be looking for attention.

Did she get bumped and jostled, likely as it was very crowded. Could she have left it at that like everybody else that got bumped around, most definitely. But she didn't, she instead decided to make herself a news story.

280 What's wrong with asking for proof of the assault before you demonize someone? Never known a woman to lie about that? Then you don't get around.

Sure, there are Trump supporters that will read this with their eyes closed, but we live in a society where OUTRAGEOUS CLAIMS get 24 hour coverage for, ah, 24 hours, then fade just as the actual facts come in. There is WAY too much incentive to arm flail for attention in the first 24 hours, especially if you can do serious damage to a publci figure that way.

So I, too, would deny my ass off, especially if I wasn't the person who actually did the deed, or I didn't see it.

If you claim you were assaulted in a press corps gathering with hundreds of cameras and mics present, then file criminal charges. If you have a civil claim, YOU have to evidence gather. If its criminal, the cops have to. Talk to me once you have it.

If it happened and is proven, then Trump should make amends (which is both moral and politically smart). Or his man who did it. Keep in mind, "assault" can be a little as a "shove", so keep your hands at your sides and hands in pockets at all times in crowds.

I'm way past tired of litigating this shit in the press. Both sides need to put up or shut up, and the party with the burden of proof (the victim) needs to go first. Otherwise, its just SJW/White Knighting/college witch hunts, and then looking stupid afterward if its turns out the victims a schemer (see Clock Boy, Mattress Girl, Gentle Giant, Zimmerman, etc.).

that is not at all what was reported. There was a video that showed them walking, prior to the incident, that showed Lewandowski to the left of a man of similar appearance. All it did was raise questions as to whether it was Lewandowski, or the man of similar appearance, who had grabbed her.

The newest video to appear shows Lewandowski making a beeline for Fields just prior to the incident.

I have to say again. As between political reporter and political campaign manager, I can not imagine two types of people I would have less faith in, all other things being equal.

A careful analysis of the visual evidence. He clearly grasps her arm.
He appears to let go of the arm fairly quickly.
The arm does not appear to be dragged or pulled excessively such that her momentum was changed or her arm pulled far from her body.
The bruises on her arm are consistent with fingertip bruising from a grab.
HOWEVER. From the video, his finger tips were on the inside of her forearm -- the bruises in the photos are on the outside of her forearm.
From the video, it is hard to see how the bruises in the photograph could have occurred. Unless she is hemophiliac or on blood thinners for some medical condition.
This seems dumb and awkward at worst from the video. I don't see it as being something that almost caused her to go to the ground. Did that happen elsewhere in another video? Is something missing?

I think standing up for your own people is necessary in anything, especially if they didn't do anything to merit being fired. Weathering drama is good, because any Republican candidate can expect to deal with all sorts of thugs trying to make a big deal at their rallies. It will only get worse in the general. Harden up.

I would like the Trump campaign to apologize, if something is shown to have happened, but I sure as hell don't trust reporters within the first few hours of a sensational report. If this is shown to be nonsense by an attention-seeker, then the next report of someone being hurt at a Trump assault will get less than a shrug from me.

Or worse.

It's been said before and needs to be said again. If you destroy something, you'd better darn sure be able you have something solid in place to replace it. Nature abhors a vacuum, and there have been damned few cases where destroying the existing political order has led to something better. In a substantial number of cases, it's led to something much worse.

That's purism, now though. 342 After eating lunch with a coworker who lived behind the Iron Curtain when there was a Soviet Union, I have a new theory to explain what is reported in the mainstream press and what is not.

My theory is that the newspapers understand that only old people still get their news from newspapers and that market is dieing off every day. However, in socialist countries, toilet paper is always in short supply or completely unavailable so people use pieces torn from newspaper.

The newspapers are trying to get Bernie Sanders elected so that when his socialist policies result in toilet paper shortages, newspaper subscriptions will increase, saving the jobs of a great many journalists.

Those stories about Hillary Clinton's email server you thought were leaked by the FBI? That was good old fashioned investigation by reporters who really can do that stuff when they want to.

This campaign to bring down Trump now that it looks like he has the Republican nomination sewed up? All part of the campaign to make Bernie Sanders President, turn America socialist, cause toilet paper shortages and sell newspapers.

The WaPo reporter is the only one who claims it was him, and I don't know where he is in that scrum to see if his vantage point really gave him a clear view. In light of her other claims, I would like some other witness testimony. Again, at the time she appeared to not know who grabbed her arm, as the person who did so was behind her

None of this would be a big deal if there weren't stories of journalists and protestors being roughed up at Trump events. A Time photographer got roughed up by Secret Service at a Trump event. At least two protestors have been man handled by the crowd at Trump events. In one of those cases the protestor was the aggressor

Nonetheless there is now a perception of thuggish crowd behavior at Trump events. Trump himself eggs the crowd on when protestors disrupt an event. From what I can tell it is done with humor.

Still. He is the front runner. He wants to be POTUS. Narratives are being set, and it is beyond stupid to let your campaign be cast in this light

How so? What is it you're comparing? Just to get some insight into how you arrived at that conclusion, the basis seems to be when Trump says..."Just punch them....I'll pay your legal costs", THAT does not meet your standard of inciting, so it would seem like the protesters are doing more than that. Is this about right? What are some of these other words and actions by the protesters that exceed your standard?

If they both were destroyed? Sure, we can start from scratch. But I don't see the Democrats being destroyed by winning the White House for a 3rd straight cycle and getting control of the SCOTUS for decades to come. Plus, a party isn't just going to die and blink out of existence like a video game character. It's going to have lengthy, painful death throes which will reverberate for years. If the GOP really and truly "dies" in 2017, can we get a conservative party replacement ready to mount a real challenge for the 2018 cycle? How about to challenge for the White House in 2020? Again, imagining the death of the GOP is a great panacea. But what comes next?

426 The vid shows clearly that there was movement towards Fields consistent with the witness' impression of who grabbed.

It's consistent with her description of when and how.

It supports her story.

She never claimed to be "thrown to the ground" - she said he pulled her down in a way consistent with *trying* to throw her down. She thought questions were still "on" - no sign to her otherwise. Trump and toadies had other ideas and grabbed the "pest," as they say, "out the way."

He didn't answer her question and her treatment was rough and unfriendly. She was physically yanked and she has bruises.

Maybe they (trumpanoids) think reporters should shut up an deal, and shut their whore mouths.

But there was nothing to say but " Im not sure what happened but there was no intention to hurt Ms Fields or do anything but help trump move through the crowd securely." Not the freaking Bart Simpson defense.

To turn this into some sort of Jackie Coakley analog is gross.

Pfffft, no they're not!! Maybe in their own eyes, but most actual conservatives heavily distrust the media. If Breitbart was so hardcore for Trump, or even had decent crisis management, they would have locked the place down while getting the facts and coming to an amicable arrangement. Trump realized he could simply run over them given their instigation- and has done. I won't be surprised if Fields is fired next week, like she was fired from the Daily Caller.

If you start assuming that the disaffected GOP customer is the "important" customer to the Trump campaign, next to the health of the campaign itself, suddenly most of this primary season starts to make sense.

You compared something for which there is strong circumstantial evidence for to something for which there is zero evidence for, circumstantial or otherwise, and which there is actual strong evidence against. As if they were the same. Yeah, sure, your intent is to bring down that which the evidence supports to the level of which the evidence is against, but the opposite could just as easily be inferred by someone so inclined. So kudos on legitimizing the SJW harpies, bubba. But hey, you called me "emotional." Good argument.

Dream on, this is at best "I briefly grabbed her arm too hard trying to keep back reporters." No sane judge is going to list that as battery without additional context (yelling, threats, holding the arm for several seconds, actually throwing the person down.)

Not voting for Trump but this is absurd.

Posted by: WOPR at March 11, 2016 05:31 PM (LTDSy)

461 The video doesn't show the battery, true. It just shows a situation very consistent with the battery claimed, and by the person claimed, in the circumstances claimed. There is other evidence to support that the chick was roughly pulled by someone who wanted to clear a way for Trump to leave without answering questions on the fly.

Again, there was never ever any need to call shenanigans or call her a liar, nut or slut in order to avoid giving oxygen to any overblown "TRUMP VIOLENCE" narratives.

Again, there was nothing to say but " Im not sure what happened but there
was no intention to hurt Ms Fields or do anything but help Trump move
through the crowd securely. There was no personal animus to Ms Fields and we are sending her a delicious case of Trump steaks for her trouble" Not the freaking Bart Simpson in an ivy-leasue suit bada bing defense.

It is, definitionally, battery. Yelling is irrelevant to battery - that's assault. Whether or not he'd actually be convicted for it is an entirely different question. But, handling a woman to such an extent that she is injured surely warrants an apology. Which could have been done very simply, nipping what should have been a non-troversy in the bud. A simple, "If I hurt you, my apologies, I was simply trying to clear a path for Mr. Trump and didn't intent to harm anyone." Easy.

Also the "bruises" seen in the photo are on the back of her forearm. The video shows unlikely for bruising to occur due to limited contact but if he did squeeze the arm, the bruises should have been inside the forearm. His palm was on the outside of her forearm in the video. Also it is hard to see exactly whose arm hand is doing the "grabbing". It isn't much contact on the video.
I am wondering if there isn't some other video or something that happened later because there's no way that contact caused her to almost fall. She didn't lose momemtum and her arm was barely raised up - maybe 20 degrees movement before release. Its very odd if this is supposed to be the smoking gun. Very odd. Now to be fair, she could be a hemophiliac or be on blood thinners due to having a clotting issue or heart issue like an arrhythmia. So in that case even minimal contact could cause a bruise. I'm not seeing a violent tug here. Which is why I wonder if there isn't something else.
A lot of emotion, though, by people who were, ostensibly not involved.
Maybe this chick used to date people involved in the blog? Cause I can see the whole I'm a gonna protect my girl thing. Been there done that.
Don't see the cops doing ANYTHING based upon this video. That's a legal opinion.

So as a lawyer,HER lawyerI would want to see evidence of a throw down or near throw down. Because my client, the reporter, claimed a violent grab and near/actual throw down. If that does not exist, then arguably she is perhaps a liar. If video exists of the whole exchange and does not show a violent tug and near fall, the she would be DEMONSTRABLY a liar.
Of course, sinceLewandowski supposedlyclaimed he never touched her, if it can be seen that he did. The he too is a liar.I tend to think they are both fullof it. . . because
OF course my position has always been, as between a political reporter and a political campaign manager I can't imagine having faith in either one of them, all else being equal.

You're right, Dubya and Daddy Bush did a lot of nothing with regards to most of their campaign promises. But they also gave us Alito and Thomas (and Roberts and Souter; mulligan on that last one?), which is the only reason we still have a 2nd Amendment.
