2 Good Morning Morons. Today is Sunday, March 06, 2016. On this day in 1836 after a thirteen-day siege by an army of 3,000 Mexican troops, the 187 Texas volunteers, including frontiersman Davy Crockett and colonel Jim Bowie, defending the Alamo are killed and the fort is captured.

3 If you missed Ace's post last night here is the Fox roundup.

Trump and Cruz were Saturday's big winners, claiming two victories each in four Republican state contests. Trump won the Kentucky caucus and Louisiana primary while Cruz claimed caucus wins in Kansas and Maine.

And commie Bernie won two with Scankles one. She is starting to lag. I think her felonies are starting to catch up, at least with people who follow politics. The average LIV may not be keeping up with it but people who vote in primaries and go to caucuses are.

And it will be interesting to see how Kansas delegates are divided up because Kansas was a total blowout for Cruz. Also interesting is that both Trump and Cruz are telling Rubio to drop out.

And a response to Ace's comment in his post:

I don't see that a vote for Rubio or Kasich is a vote for Trump. I see it as a vote for the RNCe holding a brokered convention which will put Rubio in regardless of how bad he does.

4 Stupid rules win again: Two VA firefighters have been suspended for transporting an 18 month old girl to the hospital in their fire engine and saving her life. These kinds of really stupid things are the direct result of ambulance chasing lawyers and asshole plaintiffs looking for easy money with the aid of a stupid jury who think that the government owes everybody a living.

5 News story claims that a dog drove a semi truck across a street and crashed it into a convenience store. The driver left the truck idling with the dog in it to go into the store. I smell a rat here. One wonders of the truck belongs to the driver or a separate company, because if I was the guy who ran the company that owns that truck that driver would be just like the day he first showed up at the company; he would be looking for work. One other thing of note; since his truck was involved in an accident that driver will have to submit to a drug test.

13 More evidence that CPAC has been taken over by the RNCe and is no longer a real conservative organization. While we are on this subject this question has been high on everyones mind now and I had been asked before what I called a conservative. I will bring back my definition from the vault, which was a response to a question from Gabe way back in 2010:

Gabe I think the basic problem goes all the way back to how we actually define conservative. It is one of those terms that the MFM has so debauched that it almost no longer has any real meaning. To the MFM any religious organization is always considered conservative and a member of the far right Christian conservatives groups. That includes some of the most left wing groups in the country.

Personally my definition of a conservative would be someone who

Believes in the Constitution as written in the text.

Believes in small government, not no government. In other words as one of the founders said, that government which governs least governs best. That also includes item 1 for the federal gov for the enumerated powers of congress not withstanding the liberals false interpretation of the general welfare clause, which really means nothing.

Believes in a strong national defense, including protecting the borders.

Believes in the rule of law, not the rule of man. This means judges ruling in accordance with the law, not in accordance with outcomes.

European countries are pointing fingers at each other over the migrant crisis. There is one country largely to blame and one leader holds most of the blame. The country to blame is Turkey, the leader is Merkel. The same things I have said we need to do here to stem the tide of illegals coming up from Mexico needs to be done in Europe; but like us they will not. Right now they are building fences and it isn't really working. That should be a wakeup call for those calling for a fence here.

I thought, since it was the last show it would be Tom Hanks. But no sirreee. George Stephanopoulos and wifey Wentworth.

Feh! Had to laugh as the first thing that the waiter gave him was a shrimp cocktail.

Skatetown USA (1979)

The cast alone is magically delicious: Patrick Swayze, Flip Wilson, Ron "Horschack" Palillo, Billy Barty, Scott Baio, Maureen "Marcia Brady" McCormick, doomed Playboy centerfold Dorothy Stratton and a DJ in a giant silver afro-wig. Oh, and as himself, that disco legend...Dave Mason? The guy from Traffic? Bet that was one career move he regretted.

Trust me, you haven't lived until you've seen a slutty, coked-up Marcia Brady eat drugged pizza with a bearded Horschack.

Speaking of YouTube, I discovered yesterday that you can queue up music using smartphone to YouTube app running on television. Since they're both running on the same wifi connection YouTube gives you choice of which items on network you wish to sync with.

I love technology when it works. So in the example above, where someone was running multiple short segments of a film, you could queue them all up from smartphone and they would seamlessly run, one after the other.

63 If Trump and Cruz swept up nearly all the delegates between them, but neither reached the required number, that would be something like a mandate for them to form a third party, if they could ever forgive each other.

The GOPe could nominate Rubio, but all the voters would flock to the new third party. The GOPe would be hollowed out. A ghost town of a party.

81 Another reason Reagan was so great... About the Klinghoffer case...

Initially, the hijackers were granted safe passage to Tunisia, but U.S President Ronald Reagan ordered a US fighter plane to force the getaway plane to land at Naval Air Station Sigonella in Italy. After an extradition dispute, Italian authorities arrested and tried the Palestinian terrorists but let Abu Abbas fly to Yugoslavia before a US warrant could be served.

93 Drinks are not free on cruise ships. The price includes the cabin, all meals, and all non-carbonated drinks. Alcohol and carbonated drinks cost $$$. Most cruise lines offer a special soda card--pay about $50 and you can drink all the soda you want. Especially good if you have kids, because soda is not cheap on a ship (~ $4). Also, just heard that at least one line has just begun offering an alcohol deal, and I think the price is $250.

________

If we have a contested convention - Trump having the most delegates but not the majority - I wouldnt want Cruz to be the nominee. Any nominee coming out of such a shit show would be doomed in november. Its actually my worst case scenario: the establishment manages to fend off Trump at the convention and on top they make Cruz pay the price for it.

Ive read from several people that Cruz cant reach the magical 1237 anymore, but what isnt clear to me is wether Cruz can still surpass Trump in the delegate count and go with a plurality to the convention.

105 China Loves Trump: Social Media Users Take Favorably to America's 'Strongman'

Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump is quite popular... in China.

Trump has consistently said he loves China and the that the China loves him. Despite his criticism of the Chinese, accusing them of stealing American jobs and threatening to take them full-on if elected president, it appears the country's social media users have taken favorably to him -- even if it comes at the cost of his own entertainment.

The Washington Post points out that an article published in a Chinese-language publication online, known as The Paper, Chinese nationals say they view Trump as a "strongman" and "the most human among the GOP candidates. What he says is truth, as even GOP voters know very well themselves."

Libertarian Commentator Lauren Southern Assaulted by 'Anti-Fascist' Protesters

Libertarian commentator Lauren Southern was assaulted and reportedly "covered in piss" by activists in the streets of Vancouver, in a new low for the regressive left. Her crime? Saying there are "only two genders."

The incident took place Friday evening in downtown Vancouver, British Columbia, during an "anti-fascist" protest against a visiting libertarian speaker.

...

The encounter, which was recorded by Press For Truth and can be watched below, concluded when a protester sneaked up behind Southern and, shockingly, poured a bottle of liquid, which Southern later said she believed was urine, over the libertarian commentator. A scuffle quickly broke out as two men attempted to restrain the protester, who was nonetheless able to flee the scene.

Unfazed by the attack, Southern continued her broadcast, calmly fielding questions from Press For Truth just a few minutes after the incident.

118 Pro-Hezbollah Newspaper: U.S. Officials Say Israel Planning for War With Lebanon

TEL AVIV -- A pro-Hezbollah Lebanese newspaper claimed Saturday that American officials warned Beirut that Israel is planning an imminent war against Lebanon.

According to Al Akhbar, U.S. officials were informed by their Israeli counterparts that Saudi Arabia's decision to cut back Lebanese aid and categorize Hezbollah as a terrorist organization has encouraged Jerusalem to plan an attack against its northern neighbor.

The report stated that the Americans told the Lebanese "not to give Israel an excuse to start a war."

...

Al Akhbar also reported that a German intelligence official met with the Hezbollah leadership in the group's Beirut headquarters in the wake of the assassination of arch-terrorist Samir Kuntar.

120 Good morning all.

I took a few days for a sanity break. Will try to catch up with the Anzio diary a couple days at a time until we are back to concurrent dates.

So- back to it:

From this week in 1944- The Anzio beachhead.

Feb 28, 1944 - The EZ Dog Journal
Bright and clear in morning to fog and rain in P.M. Had an indication Gerry was to attack in morning so preparation for defensive carried far into the night. He still doesn't have us pushed off the (as per PW) beachhead - and I doubt very much he ever will. It's still "tough" though.

Feb 29, 1944 - The EZ Dog Journal
Counter preparation caught Gerry off balance. His attack was more or less ragged against 3d Div. Our lines held well and took a lot of PW's. 350 on latest report. Gerry shelled everything on the beach. 2 LST's hit at the port. 141st FA Bn lost 2 guns. Light attack on SSF stopped. 30 man platoon at one place captured 4 officers and 107 enlisted - killed 20 more - and had only three of our own men wounded slightly. Cloudy and rainy.

German POW's had indicated that the Germans expected to push the Allies back into the Tyrrhenian Sea by the end of February. Didn't happen.

The SSF (Canadian/American Special Services Force) has relocated from the Italian mainland campaign to the right flank at Anzio where they carried out a series of very effective nighttime operations that earned them the appellation of the "Black Devils" or the Devil's Brigade from the Germans. Instilled great deal of fear and respect among the Germans trying to cope with them.

Zika Virus Reaches San Francisco

San Francisco health officials confirmed a case of the rapidly spreading Zika virus on Thursday, the second case in the Bay area this week.

The individual contracted the virus during travel to Central America according to KRON 4 News. Officials also conveyed that the patient has already recovered from the disease.

Eight travel-associated cases of Zika have been confirmed in California since the start of 2016 according to California Department of Public Health records as of March 4. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported 153 cases of Zika in the U.S. as of March 2.

Though no cases of Zika transmission by mosquito have been reported in the U.S., just a month ago reports came in that aggressive Aedes aegypti mosquitos known to carry the virus were infesting Orange County in southern California.

February also brought confirmation of the first sexually transmitted case of Zika in the U.S.. Dallas County health officials announced the case on February 2.

San Francisco's newly infected Zika patient is not pregnant, while the other Bay area case was a pregnant Napa County woman.

San Bernardino DA Says Terrorist's iPhone May Have 'Pathogen'

The San Bernardino District Attorney told a federal judge on Feb. 27 that Apple must assist law enforcement by unlocking the terrorist killer Syed Farook's iPhone 5C because it may have been the trigger to unleash a "cyber pathogen," county prosecutors said in a brief court filing.

San Bernardino County District Attorney Michael Ramos told a federal judge: "The iPhone is a county owned telephone that may have connected to the San Bernardino County computer network. The seized iPhone may contain evidence that can only be found on the seized phone that it was used as a weapon to introduce a lying dormant cyber pathogen that endangers San Bernardino's infrastructure."

The new and troubling information represents the first disclosure that law enforcement believes that the iPhone may provide links to possible co-conspirators. Prior to the District Attorney's disclosure, San Bernardino police chief Jarrod Burguan said there was a "reasonably good chance that there is nothing of any value on the phone," and FBI Director James Comey said, "Maybe the phone holds the clue to finding more terrorists. Maybe it doesn't."

Read the WaEx article and didn't get that.

"CPAC Focuses On Defeating Trump Instead Of Hillary" as the Weasel Zippers headline goes is the thrust of the article, but....

To start with, Trump is not a conservative, anyway...

The article starts with quoting a "first time voter," then some other random "attendee," but then goes on to admit Cruz and others did focus on Hillary.

I don't really know nothin' 'bout CPAC 'cept what I read on AoSHQ, which is often like you say "it's no good" and "it's taken over by the RNCe!!11!!" Okay...

I do see lots of videos that are good (like Levin's) from there.

Mostly, the WaEx article seems awfully fluffy and weak in substantiating its premise.

Firing off a pistol may follow this, taught in the same way, a piece of cloth being attached to the trigger, and the pistol being secured in a stationary position. Merely snapping the trigger will do at first, then caps may be used, and finally powder."

Why Cruz v. Trump Is Better for the GOP Than 'Trump Against the Field'

Here's a word to those members of the Republican Party who still want to stop Donald Trump.

After Super Tuesday and Super Saturday were not so super for either John Kasich or Marco Rubio, there are only two plausible paths forward: 1) "Trump against the field," where Kasich, Rubio, and Cruz all stay in and divide the map to play to their strengths (Kasich for Ohio, Rubio for Florida, Cruz everywhere else) and deny Trump delegates, and 2) "Cruz or lose," where Rubio and Kasich bow out soon and Cruz goes head-to-head with Trump.

Weighing the costs and benefits, the "Cruz or lose" strategy is the far better route. Here's why:

There are no upsides whatsoever in being veep, especially not when you have considerable political differences with the nominee.

I dont see why Cruz would even want that. If he fails to win the nomination, he should go back to the senate and continue to deliver on the promises he made to his constituency. He is still very young and can run again much later or maybe even in 2020.

Alas that such lectures from experience always seem to fall on deaf ears, because the latest crowd of dupes think (if they think at all) that, as Pete Seeger said, Real Communism has never been tried! Uh-huh.

I could sort-of credit that thinking - that every time it's tried, it gets taken over and doesn't stick to "real communism" - because that's how it seems in America with freedom - the so-called conservatives who take over government and botch things up, making liberty look bad.

Except, we know, whenever liberty and true-blue conservatism is given a chance, even partially as under Reagan, we see that it really works. There aren't ever any examples like that of the Reds, it always ends in blood and tyranny.

'SNL' Targets Trump KKK Controversy With 'Racists For Trump' Parody Ad h/t theblaze

and

As Twitchy notes, "Donald Trump's voter pledge is a news photographer's dream." In asking his supporters to raise their right hands and pledge they'd vote for him in the Florida primary, Trump had to know he was creating a photo op where the cameraman in the back of the room could compose a shot that implies every Fuhrerprinzip cliche that Kimmel, the Washington Post, Louis CK and numerous others have been throwing at The Donald in recent weeks.

As Iowahawk describes the image, it's perhaps the first "Self-Godwinization" in presidential history. Of course, as with his quoting the line "better to live one single day as a lion than a hundred years as a sheep," which turns out not to originate with Mussolini but predates his rise to power, Trump can point to how Americans pledged allegiance to the flag prior to WWII, so there"s plausible deniability -- but c'mon. Trump knew just such a photo would go viral on Twitter, and is likely thrilled that it did.

I just caught last Friday's "Real Time with Bill Maher" and saw the supposedly right wing Matt Lewis describe republican voters as idiot Nazis.

He was simply following the lead of my favorite insufferable twit, Charles CW Cooke, who never misses a chance to suck Maher's dick while appearing on that show.

It must orgasmic to sit on that panel, because it's next to impossible for someone to go there and maintain a conservative position.

These appearances confirm that just because someone can write, it doesn't mean they have a special insight or intelligence into politics or policy. Being able to arrange words, inject humor, aggregate news, etc. is similar to being able to choreograph an interpretive dance, and you certainly wouldn't change your vote based on a dance showing how the trees and flowers love Hillary.

With the number of good, solid right wing thinkers on the internet, how is it these mewling quims occupy the prime media positions?

We helped rebuild Germany and Japan after the war. Where they were. If
Merkel loves these economic migrants so much, why doesn't she do the
same and help them out where they are, instead of bringing them in like a
swarm of locusts to despoil her own people?

If they are such hopeless cases that they cannot be rebuilt where
they are, then merely shifting them around will in the end do nothing to
improve their lot.

At least a million people are showing that they are enthusiastic about the "Germany" product. When Colonel Sanders developed a product that people were enthusiastic for, did he make people come to Kentucky to enjoy it? No. He franchised it. People spent their own time and effort to produce fried chicken the way. Angela Merkel has an opportunity to to undo some of the mess that she has made of things. She can start off by franchising Germany in the area of Syria just south of Turkey. The Turks absolutely will not tolerate a Kurdish controlled area there. They might, however, allow a German controlled buffer state maybe 10 or 20 miles wide where they can ship all their Syrian refugees.

I am certain that the German population would be much happier with the refugees somewhere else.

223 "Alas that such lectures from experience always seem to fall on deaf ears, because the latest crowd of dupes think (if they think at all) that, as Pete Seeger said, Real Communism has never been tried! Uh-huh."

That's like someone in a world filled with only clones of Joe Biden saying, "Real grandmaster-level chess has never been played."

People simply aren't vituous enough for the communist utopia to exist. If they were, you wouldn't need a bloody coercive communist government in the first place.

How does Pete think it can be tried such that the State eventually withers away? Pete would still need the same starting point as all communist revolutions of the past. And he'd get the same result: Caitlyn Jenner's penis will wither away more quickly than the communist state.

Yeah, I was on that thread. I don't mind reading back-and-forth arguments about the candidates as long as it doesn't degenerate into personal insults. And ace was on the thread, so people were on their best behavior. So it was mostly OK.

I mainly took the position that I have serious doubts about both Trump and Cruz, but that those are the only ones I could vote for.

More telling is the split between early voting and same day voting in LA... the same day voting (after the immigration walkback) went pretty heavily for Cruz.

Great idea, except to say that everywhere in your statement where you mention "Germany" the German voters would like to insert the words "United States", as this safe zone will require a sizeable military commitment, to protect against both the Shia and Sunni armed-to-the-teeth crazy people. Turkey might be militarily capable of helping, but they are Turks and will start scheming with somebody in the region (or, more probably, everybody) and the safe zone will devolve into a killing zone.

My working theory is that the left always projects their actual plans onto the GOP as fear-mongering. Accordingly, it worries the hell out of me since SNL spent so much time calling Trump a literal Nazi last night and Van Jones taking openly of totalitarian control.

Nazi's and totalitarians were phenomenons of the left, just talking historical facts, but (if my theory is right) it seems they want to bring the practices to 21st century America.

247 241 243 Dang it. Sorry. Didn't know science was involved. Give me a little time to figure this commenting stuff out. 242 "Nazis and totalitarians were phenomena of the left" Am I mistaken that national socialism was the right-wing expression of socialism? Anyhow, it seems to me that "right-left" was an invention coming out of the French Revolution, an invention that survived because of parliamentary seating arrangements, and which then fed on Hegelian dialectic logic and the 19th century appearance of communism to bloom in the 20th century as fascism and communism. The American founders didn't have that linguistic paradigm (left-right) within which to think. Their thinking was oriented entirely on the concentration of power and on its avoidance. For them, there was no left and right gamut of power. So, maybe it's a shame that today constitutionalists, conservatives, libertarians accept being on the right. I bet if political scientists had the words right and left taken away from them, they would be rendered mute, but most of the AofS folk could keep right on rollicking.
