CPAC 2016 [Weirddave]

ETA I wrote this yesterday about CPAC's Friday schedule, but the Super Saturday election results started to come in before it was posted.

Due to inclement weather, all of my work commitments yesterday were canceled, so I decided to go to CPAC. After dropping $150 for a one day pass online and driving an hour, I arrived at National Harbor. This was the first time I'd been there, and it's a hell of a complex. They even have the London Eye out by the Potomac.

I entered the conference center and followed the signs to the event. There was an awfully long line of people winding through the lobbies. I followed it. It sure was a long line. I kept going. Finally, I reached the check in desk and got my conference badge and a lanyard to hang it on, along with a swag bag. It was then that I saw the reason for the long line. Secret Service, PGCP, TSA and various private security companies were searching everyone, and then running them through a metal detector and also individually wanding before letting them onto radio row and the main ballroom. It was a slow process.

Dog.jpg

Figuring that the line would keep, I went downstairs to check out the vendor room. Masses of impossibly cheerful young people kept trying to put stickers and buttons on me, it was like walking through a political Macy's perfume counter. The vendors were in a big ballroom downstairs, and all of the expected groups (NRO, OANN, NRA, Heritage, Cato, etc) were there, along with some unexpected ones ( ConservativesOnly, a dating website “because liberals just don't get it” ). I wandered the booths, as you do, stuffing chotchkies into my bag and sampling various wares. NRA had a laser shooting range that I tried out. I hit the correct 5 out of 9 targets in 4.67 seconds, but it took me 6 shots (I missed the first one until I got focused on the sights correctly).

Vendors.jpg

Towards the back was the NRO booth. Charles C.W. Cooke was there, but I didn't speak to him. They had a cardboard standee of Donald Trump for pictures, so I figured I'd get a picture with Teh Donald. Jack Fowler stopped me and handed me a t-shirt with their “Against Trump” magazine cover on it, asking me to hold it up for the picture. I demurred, saying I only wanted a picture of me with the cutout. He then refused to allow me to have my picture taken, unless I held the shirt. NRO has a weird idea of what constitutes “outreach”. I wandered down the row and asked a nice redheaded lady to take my picture with another Trump cutout.

Trump.jpg

Everything I could have gotten from Trump U – for $35K less!

Going back upstairs, I noticed that the line was longer than ever, but over here was a short line for media. Hmmm I thought, and wandered over to the media credentialing table. “Tell me, do you credential bloggers?” After a review of the site, and some pointed questions about the domain “Wait, it's a Polynesian Island in the South Pacific? Why would they cover CPAC?”, they said they would approve me as long as it was OK with Ace. Success! I went back upstairs to discover.....that they'd pulled down all of the security lines. Now there was a great big crowd of people and....metal detectors and individual wanding right at the doors of the ballroom. So much for finagling media credentials. This was such an improvement. /s

Crowd1.jpg

55 minutes later, and after cheating a couple of times by drafting behind SS agents pushing through the crowd, I was almost to the door.

Crowd2.jpg

Still, it was an amicable crowd, and other than the tight quarters, the experience wasn't too bad. It's nice to be able to talk to strangers without political filters in place. This little girl, whose mother proudly told me had been at every CPAC since she was 2 months old, was dressed for the occasion. She was a tiny bit cranky, but overall very well behaved and cuter than a bug's ear waving to the crowd or waving her American flag.

Pubby dress.jpg

Finally, after an hour plus outside, I made it into the ballroom just in time to hear the pro-life panel wrapping up. Now it was time for the under card, and out onto the stage strode that Republican giant, John R. Kasich of Ohio.

Honestly, Kasich gives a good speech. I could certainly see him as preferable to Trump if Cruz or Rubio doesn't make it, but as one Twitter wag put it (they were running a live scroll of Tweets with the CPAC2016 hashtag along the bottom of the Jumbotrons), “The problem with Kasich isn't the issues where he's conservative, it's all the issues where he's not”. Kasich name dropped Reagan so much that bloody images of the Gipper appeared in mirrors all over the hotel. These stories ran from the inspiring (Reagan arriving at Kasich's birth bearing frankincense and myrrh) to the mundane (Kasich advising Ronnie to got those polyps checked out) (full disclosure: Kasich actually claimed neither of those things), but overall the picture painted was of someone intimately involved in the republican wave of 1994. He focused on economics, which he believes is his strength.

Kasich.jpg

The Carol Burnett impersonation was a weird moment, however

Sean Hannity then came out for the Q&A session. The one big thing here was the unsurprising revelation that Kasich is pinning all of his hopes on a brokered convention.

After that, there were more speakers (Michelle Malkin – fiery!, Jim DeMint – DeMinty fresh!) and some interesting panel discussions on things like civil asset forfeiture and Ronald Reagan's legacy. They were running about 30 minutes behind all day, but to their credit they never got further behind than that. Still, as 4:00 neared, a palpable energy filled the air as the room filled up, all the seats taken and people crowed around the sides in the standing room only section. The Secret Service stopped admitting anyone else, citing over capacity, and a couple of hundred people were stuck outside in the hallway for the main event. Finally, the moment we'd all be waiting for.

I'm kidding, of course, but the reaction of the crowd was the same as out onto the stage strolled the man everyone had come to see:

TED CRUZ!

Cruz CPAC 2016.jpg

Ted then launched into a version of his stump speech that should be pretty familiar to anyone who has been following the campaign. This crowd didn't care, they ate it up. They would have applauded Nixon's resignation speech and asked him to encore on the piano. Even the inevitable “TRUMP! TRUMP!” chants were quickly drowned out and after one or two attempts the Trump stalwarts stopped trying. Cruz hit all the bases: 2nd Amendment, pro-life, religious freedom, SCOTUS, etc. His voice in real life is deeper and less “tinny” than it comes across on tape. He then followed up with Sean Hannity running the Q&A segment again. One thing he did say was that he's pushing all of his chips in. He's going to try an beat Trump outright, scoffing at the notion of a brokered convention. This was his Bastogne moment, when he looked in the eyes of those calling for delegate schemes and unicorn dreams and said “Nuts!”

Carson.jpg

After Ted came Dr. Ben Carson, and I thought it unfair that the room emptied a bit, because this was vintage Carson. He announced he was withdrawing from the campaign, and then he spoke passionately about the opportunity of America and the importance of sticking to our principles. It's a relief to see him back in the arena that he does so well in and out of the cutthroat world of presidential politics. The crowd gave him a standing ovation.

By this point I was starved, so I went upstairs to the MDGOP hospitality suite. The Talbot County Waterman's Association was serving fresh shucked oysters and there was a pot of homemade Maryland crab soup that was as good as any I've ever tasted. I know my state is fucked up politically, but how can I leave? The eating is sooooooo good here in The Land of Pleasant Living. The suite was crowded, and I was encouraged to see that I was on the older side of the demographic (at 48. Oy.). Just like downstairs, there were a lot of excited, politically motivated, CONSERVATIVE young people to be found. It gives one hope.

I was exhausted. I hadn't felt like paying $250 to attend the Reagan dinner, even though I would have liked to hear Carly Fiorina give the keynote address, and I if I stayed around to watch the free screening of The Young Messiah I think I would have fallen asleep in my chair, so I decided to go home. As I was picking up my coat from the coat check, they guy next to me was checking his, and I overheard him asking jokingly if there was a discount for former candidates, which is how I met Jim Gilmore. Nice guy, good sense of humor, we laughed about the “Gilmentum” hash never quite taking off on Twitter.

All in all, I had a wonderful time. It was great being in a crowd of people who are passionate about conservative principles. I got a chance to meet Kurt Schlicter (in the mens room of all places-no selfies), and I thanked him for helping me get published in Townhall last year. I also spoke to Derek Hunter, who does 12-3 in Baltimore on WBAL (he doubles Rush's share in market too, if you get a chance listen to him online at WBAL.com). It was amusing to introduce myself as “Dave from Towson”, screen names, pen names, radio names, I'll never keep them all straight. Finally, I did get a chance to meet fellow Moron PeeteySDee, which was a treat. We should definitely consider a CPAC MoME next year.

13 At the risk of having the pro Trump supporters castigate me, I think the cutout of Donald looks a lot nicer than Trump normally looks when instead he is carrying on:

*****Standard disclaimer********** Yes, there are many fine, decent supporters of Trump. One Trump supporter on Legal Insurrection who goes on and on about "Bible thumpers who hate Jesus and don't love Trump" is not one of them. The vitriol on LI is worse than it is here, I think.

And yes, Ii well understand there are unhinged folks who don't support Trump too. We've seen some such folks here too.

Dewey and Ford emerged from a brokered convention to lose the general election. So why? Because the party elites and elders want to protect us and stop of from falling into the abyss?... Most of us working two or three jobs think we're already in the abyss. The Obama abyss...

We are sick and tired of legislators of modest means who leave Congress multimillionaires, whose spouses and families get all the contracts from selling the post offices to accessing insider information so they can buy property and flip it. You're so entrenched that you're willing to give Hillary Clinton a win. It doesn't matter to you which party, crony capitalism and its paradigm will not change for the elite.

Knowing when to leave is a real skill. As someone said here yesterday, he should leave before he's humiliated in the FL primary. Make up some BS about how he's leaving for the good of the party. Rack up some IOUs and live to fight another day.

Florida was colonized pretty heavily by New York in the late 70s/early 80s, and a lot of people from Blue State hellholes moved there during the land boom. As a result, Florida's the kind of place where Trump's New York attitude will play well with a large population segment.

yeah me to, but Trump appears pretty strong in Florida.

Posted by: Nevergiveup at March 06, 2016 06:02 PM (DUoqb)

Trump was pretty strong in Kansas too (6 points up in the polls) but he got curb stomped there. I suspect he would have lost LA badly too if all voting was yesterday. Voting patterns changed drastically after Thursday's debate. Since FLA early voting only started Saturday, I expect that the polls will be very badly wrong.

I think Trump destroyed himself by walking back the only reason to support him... immigration.

You'll catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. I know you mean well, but the extra helpings of scorn just drive people in the pro-Trump camp further into it, because it's so similar to the condescension they get from the Establishment. A cool and neutral toned rationalism will go a lot further, in my opinion. At the very least, it's less likely to ruffle feathers and alienate them - which isn't something we want to do to potential allies.

A whole lot of people don't even know what Christianity is anymore. All they've ever seen of it are what they see on TV, and the occasional kid in high school acting out that role because it's what they saw on TV.

For having grown up in the 80s during the age of Televangelists on every screen, the sheer amount of ignorance out there where Christianity is concerned, and that it went from understood to maligned and otherized in the space of a generation is staggering.

This is why I've come to despise the man, even while I acknowledge his charisma and ability to sway people. Does he really believe our military is composed of stupid, amoral automata? Of course not, and that makes it even worse.

He isn't stupid. He says things like this to get attention, knowing that they're false and idiotic. He then doubles down, and leaves the inevitable walk back to his minions. This is the way a salesman approaches things (at least an unethical one). Say anything, never admit uncertainty, and if someone catches you in an outright lie, wave your hands around and call them names.

It's bad enough when he makes a fool of himself and his supporters, but it's even worse when he slanders others in the service of his ego.

I've defended NRO both here and in real life with friends who tell me the National Review has become nothing more than an Establishment mouthpiece. Maybe it's true, I mean, NRO writers often sarcastically put scare quotes around "Establishment" whenever the term comes up--as if we're imagining this coterie of amnesty-hungry big money donors and the national-level Republican politicians in their pockets, pushing their incredibly greedy, short-sighted, nation-destroying agenda. It's discouraging.

Maybe my regard for the memory of Bill Buckley has clouded my judgement where NRO is concerned. Buckley: Now there was a mensch. I admired him even when I was young and liberal. The balls on this guy, I'd think.

Churches in New England and the northeast in general tend to be FAR less demonstrative and emotional than the more Fundy types down South and I think they're put off by that as well.

234 A whole lot of people don't even know what
Christianity is anymore. All they've ever seen of it are what they see
on TV, and the occasional kid in high school acting out that role
because it's what they saw on TV.

For having grown up in the 80s
during the age of Televangelists on every screen, the sheer amount of
ignorance out there where Christianity is concerned, and that it went
from understood to maligned and otherized in the space of a generation
is staggering.

Posted by: Cato the Rebel Without a Party at March 06, 2016 07:21 PM (HalrA)

I have made the point here several times that Christianity being pushed out of the public square has left a vacuum that has been filled by some very destructive forces (secularism and Islam)... this effect is seen in sharper relief in Europe but you can see it here too.

Bakers and florists are currently the most public victims of secularism.

People murdered in terrorist attacks are of course the victims of Islam.

A comment to all about this political season: I don't think they are all schnooks, liars and criminals. Some of them are pretty sincere, but reality gets in the way. Some people sell out over time, thinking they are getting half glass, which is better than nothing.

I don't hate any of these people in the Republican primary. A few years ago, Ace was almost worshiping Marco Rubio, and now he (Rubio) is an evil traitor. We know why the opinion changed, but has Marco really changed? Perhaps we never knew him as well as we think we did.

Until a few years ago, I'd have taken your approach (trying to enlighten highly opinionated and pristinely ignorant furriners, or other people here, about matters of consequence).

Not any more. Now, at most, it's just a "well gee there is all sorts of controversy etc. about that/him/them, isn't there?" or some other dodge/babble that takes me off the hook. Though I'll usually try to pre-empt everything by changing topics/directions before the "politics" stuff even gets started.

Nuking any enemy nation's city is probably a war crime.

That doesn't change the fact that the two times we did it it was the right thing to do.

Nor that it's appropriate retaliation if someone nukes us first.

Donald's being clumsy to push the idea because we aren't at a point where things are bad enough that we'd generally accept extending the consequences of terrorism to the families of terrorists (and their mosques) yet, but I think if anything on the scale of 9-11 or larger happens again, I think people are going to change their minds.

Actually not sure the bakers/florists were victims of secularism. More like victims of constitutional erosion.

Perhaps most importantly the odious infringement on freedom of association implicit in the Civil Rights Act and/or the reigning "jurisprudence" on "public accommodation" questions.

Of course "freedom of association" is not explicitly addressed in the constitution. But it is obviously more inarguably implied in all the other freedoms, or in the very spirit of the Declaration and the constitution, then so many other dubious things that have been summoned out of thin air by the courts to impose massive changes and requirements on society in the last 50 years.

So. Don't assume the stand on toilet thing is just our neighbor's to the south. Could be refugees

It's an anti-religion. It stands not for, but in opposition. It all rests on the notion that there is no objective truth, at least where human causes are concerned.

Cause and effect break down without truth. The universe should be a fair roulette wheel, and everyone has equal odds of winning. Without truth, nothing is better than anything else. The Aztecs sacrificing tens of thousands to bloody-handed Huitzilopochtli? Equal to Christianity in their eyes.

Now consider that Western civilization has been on a winning streak since the Greeks learned to write. Their bullshit falls apart just looking at us, and it drives them into an apoplectic rage. 325 I saw no evidence that Truman, Ike, Reagan, or even the Bushes were politically-driven power grabbers.
Posted by: Dondi

Don't underestimate the seduction of power to any man.

Truman was a part of the Pendergast political machine in Kansas City, Mo., and was lucky the media (papers) of the day didn't grind him down on that. That kind of overt political corruption was probably more common in the past than we could guess.

Ike was a 5 star general, Commander of SHAEF, Commanded Operation Overlord. He had a HUGE ego, but was mature enough and sane enough to keep it under control.
George HW Bush was always politically ambitious. When he finally became President, I think he found out that it was not the prize he thought it was.

Reagan, in many ways, was a very odd man. The people closest to him (except for Nancy and a few others and certainly not his children) thought he was very distant and aloof. Very hard to get to know. People more distant thought they knew him, but they just knew the public Reagan.

I can't speak to the Freudian stuff since it's been demonstrated Freud fudged his supposed research, but it seems to me the best way to enslave a people would be to strip them of reason, their ability to test the truth of what the State is telling them.

Prideful arrogance as people dressed to the 10's look down their noses at those only dressed to the 9's, who are likewise looking at lessers with disdain.
People who are judgy, and scoldy, and prudish, and mean, and above all else,

Guess we only have a week to wait to see if Rubio will be shunted aside.

Those fond of fierce angels-on-pinheads debates can speculate about whether You Know Who helped with this process - only one candidate drop-out away from completion - but the main point is that Yeb!, and inshallah soon Rubio, will be former candidates.

At one time, AoSHQ was all about George W. Bush. Later, it was all about John McCain and his Presidency. I remember Ace saying he wanted more "Moose-Belle" when Sarah Palin came on the scene.

In 2012, the HQ eventually went all in for Mitt Romney.

In a matter of weeks, the dreams of Cruz will die and AoSHQ will temporarily become Trump of Spades HQ. It's OK. A little grief is in order for the Conservatism That Was.

But a little Burning It All Down (or SMOD-lite) is needed at this stage in our beloved Republic. If Trump doesn't prevail, then I'm pretty sure that something more serious involving tar, feathers, or lampposts and rope will end up happening in a few years.

I live in Ohio. When my oldest son was a HS senior years ago, he got a part-time job at McDonalds. I kidded him about now being able to use his four years of HS Spanish. Well, at orientation, there was an English speaking table, and a Spanish speaking table. And yes, he got to use his Spanish skills. Found out conversational Mexican is different.

About every restaurant around here has Mexican/south of the border table help or kitchen help. I can only think of a couple that don't (a very upscale steak house, and a family owned Italian restaurant).

Skip, if the turnover of one seat on the SCOTUS has the potential to dramatically change lifein the country - and it does - then clearly it is no longer a court. It's an unchartered constitutional assembly, simply voting to amend/ignore/etc. the constitution, not apply it in good faith.

But you kind of already knew that.

That's the larger, darker implication of all this that seems, I dunno, ignored, possibly shunned by so many since Scalia's passing?

And while the damage to the foundations obviously started before Roberts was in high school, the damage he alone has done in his short tenure is pretty dramatic, and novel (past rampages by others at least didn't shred non-constitutional areas like statutory interpretation and federal tax law).

Rush Limbaugh had a good monologue on this on Friday. He espoused the idea that Republicans in general are terrified of opposing Obama because of the racial angle. It was more complicated and explanatory than that, but that was the simple summation of it. Maybe you can find it on his website. It was really pretty good.
I don't honestly know how true it is (or has been the last 7 years), but it certainly explains some of the really odd behavior we've seen. It excuses nothing, just explains.

425 Whose fault do you think it is that there have been
lead pipes delivering your water supply for 100+ years? Whose fault is
that? Who, exactly, is in charge of basic city infrastructure?

Posted by: Harry Paratestes at March 06, 2016 08:05 PM (AkOaV)

The lead pipes are usually just the service entrance lines from the water main in the street to the house. Homeowner owns the pipe from the meter to the house. Meter can be curbside or at/in the house.
So, if the meter is curbside, that lead pipe is property of the homeowner.
Older house may also have lead solder connecting copper pipes and high lead brass plumbing fixtures.

how does one go about removing lead paint from every house in the country? Every house built before 1973 (72?) most likely has SOME lead paint.

567 I learned something today that pleased me. Dr. Robert Bakker is a paleontologist who I have long admired. He was an advisor on the first Jurassic Park movie and the paleontologist character, Dr. Robert Burke, from the second movie, The Lost World, is a caricature of Bakker.

Anyway, I learned today that in addition to being a world class paleontologist, he is also a Pentecostal Ecumenical Christian minister who sees no conflict between Christianity and science which is my view as well.

Barker has written two books, The Dinosaur Heresies, a scientific work, and Raptor Red, a novel featuring a female Utahraptor as she makes her way through the late Cretaceous. Both are excellent. I also had the pleasure of hearing him speak following which he gave a demonstration of how to draw dinosaurs for children.

Here's Dr. Barker at a dinosaur drawing class. When I saw him, he didn't have all that white in his hair. If I'd had any idea what it would be, I would have taken my daughters.

575 Why is it that we know we've had a lot of bad actors holding political and judicial offices that have come out of Texas and yet we're all enthused about electing another one?

We're going to elect another lawyer who hasn't ever held a job in business who's wife help formulate the plan for a national government and who works for a Wall street brokerage house (who by the way also infested the last 3 administrations).

I find it amazing that at the same time people are saying the Trump is a liar and doesn't mean what he says yet they turn around and go gaga over Cruz who's been taking money from the bankers and who's supposed outsider acts in the Senate were really voting in favor of what the insiders wanted. And he's the outsider who will free the country and fix the economy that's been caused by unbalanced trade agreements and illegal immigration and too many h1b visas. Which Cruz is in favor of having more of and who hasn't mentioned yet putting an effective barrier on the border or not allowing more Muslim migration or stopping the anchor baby rules.

Yet HE'S the conservatives savior?

and who's supposed outsider acts in the Senate were really voting in favor of what the insiders wanted.

Cite please. The big difference is Cruz has been in Washington for a while and remained conservative. Given the tendency of people to "grow" in office, that'll always give him an ideological leg up on someone who hasn't, especially someone's who's waffled a lot even before going to Washington.

"Social Media" consumers.

All the instant-grat humor stuff on the net is entertaining if you have the cultural background, but you don't *get* a meaningful cultural background from it - which is why so many people are now saying the world makes no sense (so they have no defenses against dumb ideas).

The world, sadly, makes a great deal of sense.

Yeah Lileks wrote about this a few years back: that Flintstones/Smurfs/Iron Man mashup was funny, especially when grumpy cat showed up but its nothing new. All people are doing is repackaging the same stuff over and over again. When the only new creative stuff that's come along are those godawful scrawled cartoon faces like Forever Alone guy from 4chan, you know we're in trouble as a culture.

Well, pretty much everybody lost that one, so it's kind of downstream by now.

They were mostly farmers but were run by commies (who treated the farmers about like you'd expect).

The Contras wanted to fight the commies, but ended up mostly fighting the farmers.

Like most proxy wars, it was a fustercluck.

Bernie actually supported the Sandanistas, with some of that old commie rhetoric (like trying to spin poverty and bread lines as positives).

Merovign I'm sure you do know that Eisenhower's famous remarks in fact *did* include a warning against menaces other than the "military-industrial complex", I believe specifically what we'd call Big Science today, esp. in league with ...... (wait for it) .... guvamint.

In any case, I think Ike's famous mil-ind complex warning was meh, at best.

National defense is both a public good and expressly the responsibility of the govt., the fed. govt. And a common sense requirement beyond all that.

The unavoidable log-rolling and inertia and waste that grows up around any kind of substantial activity generating economic impact are no worse in the defense area than any other where a public good and govt. are involved. And "genuine" mistakes and miscalculations that occur in critical, high-pressure engineering and technical endeavors are not unique or even distinctive to defense matters. Or even the sort of social/design pathologies that might develop (F-35, too many eggs in one basket, chasing chimerical efficiencies, etc.).

But Ike was a good SHAEF and a good prez and that particular line of his one speech is iconic even if dubious prophecy and nearly universally misunderstood. So, time to go check the pasta water. I think the fresh oregano is going to add a nice touch to the sauce. But the Trader Joe's Paso syrah is less spicy and full-bodied than I'd hoped for.

Just to clarify. Cruz's wife is THE banker. She is a regional VP for the investment bank Goldman Sachs and Citi is one of the banks she works with directly. She arranges financing for oil conglomerates both domestically and internationally. And she was one of the energy portfolio managers for GS before he won his Senate seat. She was promoted to Regional VP a couple of months after he got the seat. She has also been directly involved with the development of the North American Union development for over a decade both inside the federal government and in private finance. She operates in a very high level of the globalists.

719 Here's the part of Eisenhower's speech the Left never quote...

Akin to, and largely responsible for the sweeping changes in our industrial-military posture, has been the technological revolution during recent decades.
In this revolution, research has become central, it also becomes more formalized, complex, and costly. A steadily increasing share is conducted for, by, or at the direction of, the Federal government.

Today, the solitary inventor, tinkering in his shop, has been overshadowed by task forces of scientists in laboratories and testing fields. In the same fashion, the free university, historically the fountainhead of free ideas and scientific discovery, has experienced a revolution in the conduct of research. Partly because of the huge costs involved, a government contract becomes virtually a substitute for intellectual curiosity. For every old blackboard there are now hundreds of new electronic computers.
The prospect of domination of the nation's scholars by Federal employment, project allocations, and the power of money is ever present -- and is gravely to be regarded.

Yet, in holding scientific research and discovery in respect, as we should, we must also be alert to the equal and opposite danger that public policy could itself become the captive of a scientific-technological elite.

The prospect of domination of the nation's scholars by Federal employment, project allocations, and the power of money is ever present -- and is gravely to be regarded.

It is the task of statesmanship to mold, to balance, and to integrate these and other forces, new and old, within the principles of our democratic system -- ever aiming toward the supreme goals of our free society.

722 Yes, you can pretty much tell someone's PoliClub Membership when they quote only the MilIndustry part of the speech, because that's the Bogeyman for the left.

Doesn't matter who has the courts and the police and the jails, it's Eeeeeevil Corporations. Somehow the military gets exempted from the Nobility of Bureaucracy, largely because of its anti-communist history.

723 Well, we already have declarations of drunkenness, and it's a Trump ONT, so Imma miss out on the "fun." Good luck to the casualties.

724 Re: Cruz's wife:

VP is a common title and really isn't very high in an investment bank. It's not like most corporations, where you might be one of the top 5 people in the company. Just about anybody at an investment bank about four or five years out of business school gets the title of VP.

It looks like she was promoted a couple years ago to something else, but a title like that really counts for nothing (power-wise) at a bank.

726 (whispers) no

727 Just to clarify. Cruz's wife is THE banker. She is a
regional VP for the investment bank Goldman Sachs and Citi is one of
the banks she works with directly. She arranges financing for oil
conglomerates both domestically and internationally. And she was one of
the energy portfolio managers for GS before he won his Senate seat. She
was promoted to Regional VP a couple of months after he got the seat.
She has also been directly involved with the development of the North
American Union development for over a decade both inside the federal
government and in private finance. She operates in a very high level of
the globalists.

She was not THE banker.

728 All I want is a belligerent, obnoxious jerk in DC, who doesn't give a shit, kicking over tables, smacking people in the face, and poking them in their eyes, like Moe.

I don't really care if it's Trump or Cruz does it, as long as somebody does it.

You do realize that this was a private event, right? They can set any rules they want and it has nothing whatsoever to do with what system of government we live under. Sheesh.
