34 Good morning all!

A momentous day on this date in 1944 at Anzio. (emphasis added)

Feb 22, 1944 - The EZ Dog Journal
General Truscott took over VI Corps. G.W.'s birthday but hardly a scene for festivity - what with Gerry planes and Gerry artillery. We still dish out a lot more than we take. And we're taking a lot more than we have before.
Weather cloudy. Cold, damp.

G.W. = George Washington

General Lucian Truscott relieved General John Lucas who had squandered the initial advantage of surprise and failed to advance out of the shallow beachhead in the early days of the invasion. Truscott was much more dynamic and instilled a better sense of determination and resolve in the troops. This was more than just changing coaches in mid-season, Truscott was a better leader.

37 I had always said that Scankles would not be the Dem nominee. But it looks like I will be proven wrong. But that is only because they could not come up with anyone besides an ancient old commie fvck to oppose her.

Now the DNC is doing everything in it power to make sure she does get it. The only thing that will stop her from getting the nom is by finally being put in jail. And that is not going to happen.

But that will be good for the Republicans.

Well, there's never been a confirmed sighting, but unicorn spoor has been recovered from multiple locations within the city proper. And sometimes late at night you can hear the distant roar of a bull unicorn's mating call and catch the faint whiff of patchouli as one passes by in the darkness.

66 If Hillary gets the nomination she faces a problem with disgruntled Sanders supporters. To pacify them and get them back on board she will have to go as far left as Sanders. Conventional wisdom says the candidates must move to the center for the general election. However these are no longer normal times. Could be the electorate is so far gone she will gain more votes than she loses by going full commie.

Texas. He was easy to track, he left dead men wherever he went. Then the

Just some anecdotal information. Before going in for my spinal fusion, my surgeon strongly advised me to quit smoking cigarettes. His claim is that nicotine has been shown to retard bone growth.

However, RI is a medical marijuana state and he had no objection to using weed instead of narcotics. Fortunately for me, most of my pain was over early in the process so I didn't have to worry to much one way or the other.

Did quit smoking though.

197 Saw "The Witch" yesterday.

The lovely and cultured Mrs naturalfake is a fan of horror movies. Not bloody, gory ones but psychological, creepy type horror movies and thought "The Witch" looked like a good one.

The trailer's looked too artsy-fartsy and a few of the reviews I'd seen talked about the film taking on "teh patriarchy!!111!!!!" so while i wasn't hot on the idea, we went.

I have to say "The Witch" was an excellent movie that hooked me right at the beginning.

The reviews about the "patriarchy' nonsense are way way way off course.

The trick to understanding the movie is in the subtitle A New England Folktale and the mention of folktales and historical records used in the making of the script at the beginning of the end credits.

This is not a horror movie for modern times so much as it is a horror movie for our Pilgrim Forefathers and Mothers.

It plays out like a folktale told to children and teenagers-

a very grim Grimm's Fairytale, if you will with a Calvinist twist.

and with the same message as a folktale- don't go alone into the woods. Be aware at all times. Live a good and Godly life. There are dangers to self and soul.

No spoilers because the tale is very simple, but the turn of events is quite creepy with shocking (though not particularly gory visuals) punctuating what is happening.

The story itself is basic tragedy - a father is too proud to accept the wisdom and sober council of town fathers and so takes his family into the woods to live alone.

There in the woods Satan and the Witch work to destroy the family. Corruption comes in both the most and least obvious ways.

His sin of pride in his own Godliness brings nemesis.

The story contains some neat stuff which I'd like to talk about but won't so as not to spoil the experience for those who wish to go.

A few quick points:

1) I was never bored at all. But the movie does have a quiet, sober pace- very much like "The Shining" until all hell breaks loose.

2) The Calvinist worldview is strange to modern ears and I think this confused a lot of the critics.

It is used, I think, to amp up the mystery aspect for the Pilgrims- i.e.. who is the witch, who among them is corrupt, who is elect and who damned by predestination.

3) Incredible performances by all the actors. Really just great.

If this sounds like your kind of thing.

Check it out.

Trump is a progressive... a single payer insurance supporting, abortion supporting crony capitalist with no love of the free market or the Constitution. He is also all over the place about deportation (though not a wall which he intends to have Mexico pay for).

The kind of goals he would set, by and large I don't want him achieving. And I certainly don't want him making the fabulous deals he has promised to make with our domestic enemies.

Bad news - They can't sustain it. It will all crumble down.

Good News - They can't sustain it. It will all crumble down.

I can't wait to see President Trump make good deals. He's gonna make such good deals, excellent, really fantastic deals, such great deals that we're gonna get sick of winning.

Saw some old friends from college this weekend, one of whom is working in theater management in new york, she's a razor sharp girl who has no idea how extreme her progressivism actually is. I tried to explain to her, as we verbally fenced about racial issues in this country, that she wasn't making a single point about fixing racial issues. Everything she said was about justifying her belief that I am not allowed to participate in the conversation because I am a white man.

The discourse and the rhetoric around this race don't matter in the slightest. Seeing if it's even still possible to beat the establishment in an election, fair and square, is.

Of course, it depends on which way it's oriented. Palm outward, it's a victory sign, palm inward, it's Limey for "fuck you".

Confusion over the two was used in a spy novel I read once. As I recall, the hero CIA officer is running from some nasty folks in London, and makes it onto a bus just before it pulls away. He puts up two fingers in the window to say fuck you, but realizes too late that he stuck it right under the nose of a prim British matron on the bus.

Executive Order - which, as a professed constitutionalist, is something that is off his table. So, to me, he's lying, throwing out red meat while, at the same time, knowing that he has fuck-all chance of actually achieving the goal.**shrugs**But your mileage may vary and I'm not going to argue over it. Frankly, I expect everyone, in public or private life, to lie when it suits them, so I'm not saying this to slam Cruz; just noting that charging Trump as a liar isn't singling him out from the GOP pack.

Part of the problem is that the Constitution was written for a reasonably literate people with a relatively common heritage of Western Civilization. Then, the lawyers and judges have been papering over the clear intent for over two centuries without correctional oversight of the people. And in the background, the educational system for the past fifty years or so has been ensuring a uniform level of illiteracy amongst the populace!

Even Ted Cruz can't fight that!

In or out of 'em, it doesn't matter. Nothing seems really to matter, that's the charm of it. Whether you get away, or whether you don't; whether you arrive at your destination or whether you reach somewhere else, or whether you never get anywhere at all, you're always busy, and you never do anything in particular; and when you've done it there's always something else to do, and you can do it if you like, but you'd much better not."

I have an example of this.

Our church meets at a small shopping strip. We wanted to put a sign out during last Easter to promote our Easter services. The landlord had a vinyl sign out front advertising lease space and gave us permission to replace it with our sign identical in size.

Well that permission wasn't good enough. We had to go to the city to get approval for the temporary swap and because the approval process may take more than a month we had to pay an expediting fee to make sure we could put it up in time.

Now this was putting up a temporary sign in a small city. I can't imagine a multibillion dollar construction project in a metropolis.

What is your prescription then?

Here's my calculus. I like Cruz. But the E isn't going to let him win, even if he wins the primaries. I've seen them run this game in Virginia.

So my sense is if the E is going to force their preferred candidate, then to Hell with it all. I'd rather see the GOP burn to the ground than be the E's whipping boy. Again. So that's why I'm all for Trump in the absence of Cruz. Because from where I sit, there is no fixing the GOP.

I'd like to be wrong, but I'm not. Even with Mario Rubio saying he is the guy to unite the two wings, his solution involves lying to conservatives. That isn't novel. That's more of the same.

So what do you propose?

Clive Crook has an article that explains his West Virginia country house Trump supporting neighbors to his Beltway condo neighbors.

Bottom line with Trump supporters: They don't expect him to change things, but he's the best opportunity to express disgust with the system.

No I just don't agree with it. How am I drinking poison? Examine the trajectory of government control of citizen's lives and financial decisions under Clinton -> Bush -> Obama. If Trump is as bad as you say, that trajectory will stay the same. We all know, we're all here on this site, because we know in our bones that the trajectory will remain the same if Hillary, or Bernie, or Rubio, or Kasich, are elected.

And I believe Cruz can't win. And I've been proven correct in that assessment in 2/3 of states that have voted thus far. Ted still has time, but not much.

And I'm saying, like I've been saying since October: what if he means what he's saying? What if he really will secure the border, beef the military back up, and reduce the tax and regulatory burden on the US citizen?

Yeah, he's the candidate spiting the GOP, but there's also a chance, a small, a miniscule chance, of actually turning things around. I will take that chance.

Sorry you've completely lost hope.

525 Re: Jason the Uber driver.

Watched an interview via skype with one of the Kalamazoo police captains this morning who was at the car dealership after the two victims had been shot while perusing cars in the lot. Ainsley Earhart, the new F&F host was interviewing.

The shooter first shot his female neighbor in her yard around five pm. He then apparently picked up an Uber fare and drove them to their destination, then went to a Cracker Barrel and shot five people in the parking lot, four of whom died and one 14 year old girl is gravely injured. He then picked up another fare and that guy said that he was driving like a maniac, running up on the median, 80mph , then on the shoulder. Rider kept asking to get out, finally when the car had to stop, rider jumped out and ran. His girlfriend, whom he had either called or texted, sent a facebook posting telling people not to accept a ride from a Jason, that he was a maniac driver. Aparently, Jason then switched vehicles somewhere and drove to the dealership where a father and son(after 10pm at this point) were walking through the lot looking at cars and he shot and killed them both. He then picked up a family and drove them to their destination, around midnight, and then was finally stopped and arrested with no struggle.

Earhart asked the police officer what fallout he thought would occur from this incident , having a man with a gun running around shooting people and the cop ripped into her. He said he had no idea how it would affect Uber, that's simply a human interest story, that he wanted to congratulate his department on arresting this guy within 90 minutes of his car being described. He said that Jason had no criminal record and it was his understanding that he had passed Uber's background check, although he said he had no idea what that entails.

Antonin Scalia is dead, actuarial tables say the next president will be replacing two more supreme court justices, and unless either Cruz or Trump are elected we will have amnesty by this time next year, how historic.

The first believes we can vote our way out of this. That all it takes is electing the right people for a couple of cycles and the old America comes back to its full glory. Their response to the past ten years is, basically, "that'll buff out".

The second believes we're beyond political solutions. They see a deeper rot that would require generations to fix--if it can be fixed--and consider it likely that the America they knew and loved is gone. Their response to the past ten years is, "it will only get worse".

It's a question of whether America can be saved, or merely avenged.

A vote for Cruz does that too and we know Cruz is not going to sell us out on:Abortion
The 4th amendment
The first amendment (specifically our religious liberties)

The second amendment (Trump has supported "assault weapons" bans in the past)

The fifth amendment (right to be secure in our property)

Selling our government to the highest bidder (Trump has been that bidder in the past and he is certainly very comfortable with the Crony Kleptocracy we have been fighting in Washington)

and Obamacare (which Trump wants to replace with a system that still requires guarantees universal health care coverage which he swears will be cheaper and more fabulous because... TRUMP)

The bedrock is yet solid.

That bedrock is made of 3 precepts--

Our solution is Cruz. Who is an actual conservative. Who believes in and will work to preserve our Constitution. Who, contrary to what Trump says has far fewer negatives and is far more electable than Trump is.
As ISIS and Iran prove, the enemy of your enemy is only your friend if he was your freaking friend before... otherwise he is just another enemy. The GOPe saying they hate Trump does not erase the fact that Trump is a progressive Democrat who, beyond MAYBE immigration, does not hold to any conservative values.

573 Irongramps ...

... Those do indeed make a hell of a foundation. Unfortunately ... What got built upon it is a ramshackle piece of shit.

I, like many others here, see a good razing and rebuild as needed.

575 Trump is not a DC outsider... He is the other side of the messed up pay for play system in Washington.

---------------

Might be since he is the one paying.

Definitely is not... as already proved by his support during this campaign for crony programs like ethanol mandates.

The trouble is things are such that Trump has greater appeal than Cruz.

Cruz is a very good choice, but he is not doing as well as Trump.

You can't change the fact Trump is the chosen weapon.

Adapt. Push for Trump/Cruz. It is not what you want, but it is the best you can get.

Stop attacking Trump and turn your words on Rubio. He is the threat to Cruz.

Choosing a firestarter that does not particularly value our foundational documents and values seems a poor choice.

579 Looking for one man to change the direction of this country is a futile proposition. Change will only happen when enough people (individually or as a state) start ignoring the federal government, especially when it concerns the very laws the fed ignores itself. And, yes, that includes the IRS and most of the other alphabet agencies.

Until this happens, nothing will change no matter who is in the WH.

Trump does not have greater appeal in general... in fact, Cruz beats Trump in a head to head match up and has much lower unfavorables than Trump.
I am not attacking Trump... that would do no more good than attacking a scorpion for stinging.
I am pointing out to you that A) conservatives have to abandon all principles and become Democrats to support him and B) being a progressive Democrat, he will be bad for the country and that SHOULD MATTER to you people.

582 We have the blueprint (and the history) but are increasingly a country made up of those unable to read the blueprint and with no appreciation of our history.
Two things are necessary to save the Republic:
(1) control the borders as to limit both illegal AND LEGAL immmigration, particularly from countries with no political or cultural traditions of individual liberty, ie. basically anything outside the English speaking world, or countries with enough recent memory of Soviet domination to have some visceral sense of what's at stake, or Cuber, etc.
(2) take back the education establishment so as to teach the new generations of native born, and the new immigrants, the nature and value of liberty. Above all, this requires a new commitment to federalism, peel back Common core, and start a well funded initiative in all 50 States to get actual American civics back into the curriculum.

Everything else is deck chair rearrangement.

And speaking of deck chairs I love how The Don can devote so much attention to "illegal" immigration, yet stay so coy about the desired scope of legal immigration. If he is elected, expect a big wall and a YUUGE door, with deals around for the Chamber of Commerce for continued, massive (albeit "legal") immigration.

Won't that make us a great again!

Huh?
