So I understand that Raddled Radditz asked Ted Cruz a bait question last night, and then promptly interrupted him in the middle of his answer when he wasn't taking the bait.
Cruz handled it professionally and calmly and was not knocked off stride. But really, I will vote for the first candidate who, when a lefty journalista pulls that sort of rude shit, holds up a hand and says, "Hold on for a minute here. You asked me a question, and I began to respond courteously to your question, and then you broke in on me before I could even finish answering. Is that okay in your world? Do you consider that normal? Were you brought up that way? Did your mom and dad tell you that's how grown-up adults politely communicate? Because it's not." Throw a flag on the play. Loudly. Prominently. Because the press corpse will keep playing these dumb games unless and until they're embarrassed into stopping. Posted by: torquewrench at February 07, 2016 03:38 PM (noWW6) 24

I'm not sure this really hurts him so badly. I mean, people that are hitting it keep playing him kicking Obama in the mangerines, and this kind of thing takes too long to develop, which means in today's sound bite culture, it doesn't play as well. I'm not sure it will really matter unless comedians and popular culture turn it into a joke: you repeat yourself as often as Rubio!

Rubio's fine. What does getting yelled at by Chris Christie have to do with being President? And if people start yelling incoherent things at the President, what does it matter what he says?
Rubio's optimism is the thing people are drawn to definitely not his experience. If experience was top issue, you wouldn't support an outsider of any kind. Posted by: petunia at February 07, 2016 04:21 PM (VoCyE) 108
Rubio's talking point is trying to take a strong stance on the Obama is evil vs Obama is stupid debate. Evan Sayet's KinderGarden of Eden hypothesis is a much more nuanced approach to this and leads me to think that Rubio is simply wrong (and gives Obama way to much credit in the process). This argument is also not at all important when selecting the GOP candidate.

Cruz's comments about a nuclear EMP strike made me go read up on it. The possibility is there, and the technology exists. Surprising fact: a modest size boosted fission bomb is easier to get a big EMP effect out of than a large thermonuclear bomb. Has to be set off in space a few hundred miles up. It's gamma rays hitting the upper atmosphere that produce the sharp initial EMP burst that destroys electronics, followed by longer slower emissions from other effects, that can run through the electric power grid and burn out transmission lines and transformers.
The U.S. is apparently not doing anything to harden non-military equipment against EMP. One web site suggested that the low yield North Korean tests weren't fizzles at all, but rather EMP development tests. Frying electronics nationwide would be a far more cost-effective use of a small nation's limited nuclear capability than taking out individual cities. Maybe that's the main impetus of both the North Korean and Iranian programs. Posted by: Semi-Literate Thug at February 07, 2016 04:29 PM (/f6Nd) 127

The Cursed household is voting for Cruz on Tues. Many of our friends and acquaintances who say they "support" or "like" Cruz (or even Trump) aren't voting on Tues., and, in fact, never vote - ever. Some are hard-core Christians who claim that "it's all in God's hands" and something as trivial as voting won't change Eternity (!), and others are folks who are cynical about the whole political sausage-making, and just plain refuse to participate. The Bernie supporters who we know - college students, working parents and empty-nesters alike - are excited to vote for him, and most likely will show up on Tues., no matter what. Drew used the example of Babe Ruth calling his shot, but I think even more apt would be the classic Billy Jack scene: Billy Jack: You know what I think I'm gonna do then? Just for the hell of it? Mr. Posner: Tell me. Billy Jack: I'm gonna take this right foot, and I'm gonna whop you on that side of your face... [points to Posner's right cheek] Billy Jack: ...and you wanna know something? There's not a damn thing you're gonna be able to do about it. Mr. Posner: Really? Billy Jack: Really.
