The War on US Sovereignty [Y-not]

OK, that headline may be a bit much, but a couple of items crossed my Twitter feed this week that caught my eye.

Here's a quote from the USA Today story:

WASHINGTON - British and U.S. officials have been negotiating a plan that could allow British authorities to directly serve wiretap orders on U.S. communications companies in criminal and national security inquiries, U.S. officials confirmed Thursday.

The talks are aimed at allowing British authorities access to a range of data, from interceptions of live communications to archived emails involving British suspects, according to the officials, who are not authorized to comment publicly.

Perhaps this sort of thing is routine, but something about it rubs me the wrong way.

Now that Rand Paul has dropped out, who would be best-equipped to combat incursions on American citizens' privacy and US sovereignty?

The case involved an illegal alien, Jose Medellin, who was convicted of raping, torturing, and murdering two girls. The judicial branch of the U.N. tried to intervene, demanding a new trial for this scumbag.

Unfortunately, because of particular political circumstances at the time, President Bush, Condoleezza Rice, and the U. S. Solicitor General Paul Clement (all Republicans and all people Ted Cruz respected highly) decided that Texas should obey the World Court's decision. This would have meant that Jose Ernesto Medellin, a rapist, torturer, and murderer of two young girls, could have been set free.

Gov. Abbott agreed that Ted Cruz should go before the U. S. Supreme Court to plead Texas' case, saying that no President -- not even a friend and fellow Republican -- should be allowed to defy the Constitution by allowing the UN World Court to bind the courts of the United States.

Strong forces were gathered against Ted Cruz -- opposing legal briefs from 90 foreign nations, the European Union, experts on the World Court, the American Bar Association, and one of the biggest law firms in the world that represented Jose Medellin.

After using amazing strategies, Ted Cruz was able to convince six out of eight members of the U. S. Supreme Court to vote his way even though it meant he had to stand against his friends and members of his own Republican Party (e.g., Pres. Bush, Ms. Rice, and Paul Clement).

A couple of days ago on the ONT we were reminded that Ted Cruz is only five months older than Marco Rubio. That's one month for every case he's won before the Supreme Court. So don't let anyone tell you Cruz has no accomplishments.

12 Other countries refuse to follow us and insure freedom and basic human rights for their own people, and they insist that we abandon our basic legal framework.

The really sad part is that there is no shortage of Americans who would assist them in destroying our rules of law instead of defending them as they once did.

which they urged the US government to address the legacy of slavery with "reparatory justice," a national human rights commission, and ongoing

Well, when they do it without going through the Constitutional requirement of obtaining a warrant based on probable cause, there is reason for great concern.

I just love how the old hippies constantly complained about living in a "police state" when there was no such thing years ago. Nowadays, we really are living in one (illegally, I might add) and don't say "Boo" about it.

The fact that no pols are bitching about this tells me that they're all for it, and against freedom.

29 I have worked for, in, and around the UN three times in my life. It would be a mistake of the greatest magnitude to allow ANY part of UN authority over us. The un is merely a collection of individual entitlement seekers, on an international scale. Every person related to the un is in it purely for "what's in it for me?" as individuals and nations. And they want the US to pay.

34 I think it was in "Moonraker" the novel where M said to Bond, "At this point, I scarcely think we're worth the candle." First suspicion would be that once they get their big Brit nases in under the tent, they'll be seeking out all those tax refugees who came here to avoid The TaxMan. And a-gaynst that, you'd have to posit a lobbying group you'd have to call Big Stones, which would be fun.

Then one recalls that a veritable crapload of US companies have just merged into UK ones, to avoid rapacious tax rates...here. So if you're going X-Files on this, it's the reciprocity you'd have to be looking for.

Sometime... I guess over the last 20 or so years, the Brits were in a tug of war, between Europe and us. They wanted to keep both relationships, but really, Europe required them to more or less sever ties with the U.S., in order to serve the euroland borg.

They chose euroland. So now they're reaping what they've sewn.

94 Now that Rand has dropped out there's no reason to pander to people who care about the 4th Amendment. I'm not Italian nor subject to Italian jurisdiction but if I wanted
to (note the "wanted"), I could apply to become Italian based on my

make a claim.) Alot of countries have this including the UK for southern

And dips hits like the woman above will smirk smugly as they (figuratively) apply chains to themselves and their children

According to Canadian law experts contacted by a Dallas paper in 2013, he was. Apparently, Canada was (but is not now) one of the few countries to grant automatic citizenship to the children of foreigners born on their soil. The US and MAYBE one or two other countries do this. When Cruz found out, he renounced any claim he might have to Canadian citizenship that he would have had no reason to even know about (since neither he nor his parents took any active steps to make him a Canadian citizen).

I personally believe he did not know as he never gained anything from it or used it (to get a Canadian passport for instance) AND, given his Presidential ambitions, would have had reason to renounce it far sooner had he known.

164 According to Canadian law experts contacted by a
Dallas paper in 2013, he was. Apparently, Canada was (but is not now)
one of the few countries to grant automatic citizenship to the children
of foreigners born on their soil. The US and MAYBE one or two other
countries do this. When Cruz found out, he renounced any claim he might
have to Canadian citizenship that he would have had no reason to even
know about (since neither he nor his parents took any active steps to
make him a Canadian citizen).

I personally believe he did
not know as he never gained anything from it or used it (to get a
Canadian passport for instance) AND, given his Presidential ambitions,
would have had reason to renounce it far sooner had he known.

If he's got Canadian genes, we'll know about it. Then he can trade in his lederhosen for a kilt IYKWIM.

I don't even want to think about what countries I "might" be eligible for citizenship in. And apparently none of my 4bears who fled/scrimped and saved/snuck out by dark of night did, either. But it's a bunch. Old joke, "Hell, I've been thrown out of better countries than this one..."

167 I don't know if I have/had dual citizenship with Germany. I was born there 40(ish) years afo to American citizens and was told as a toung adult that I might have dual-citizenship.

I believe not. My No. 1 Son was born in Germany, we registered his birth with the US State Department, and he has always been only a US citizen.

Germans don't give citizenship just for being born there. There are 3rd generation Turks whose grandparents came as guest workers in the 1960s who aren't German.

Germans are about the blood. If your family was a "Volga German" and emigrated to Russia in the 1800s, you have the right to citizenship if you've retained any connection to the German culture.

--------------------------------
Obama became president for the same reason that a pedophile becomes a school janitor.
You really should check out Dinesh D'Souza's film, 2016: Obama's America. It starts by asking, Why did Obama disappoint so many of his supporters?
He was voted in by Democrats, independents, and a few disillusioned
Republicans. Many of them are feeling betrayed.

I'm gay, he
betrayed me. I'm Green, he betrayed me. I'm a DREAMer, he betrayed me. I
want card check, he betrayed me. I want to close Gitmo, he betrayed me.
I want the rich to pay higher taxes, he betrayed me. I want
single-payer healthcare, he betrayed me. I wanted transparency, he
betrayed me.

D'Souza replies: The reason is, these piddly Democrat-Republican squabbles are not Obama's concern.

According
to D'Souza, Obama's aim is way beyond this two-party conflict that the
rest of us Americans are locked in. Thanks largely to Obama's often
squalid overseas upbringing and the education his parents and
grandparents designed for him, he takes a much broader view of America:
as a colonialist thief of other nations' natural wealth. He has
essentially projected the sins of Britain onto America. The British Raj,
Churchill's suppression of the Mau-Mau Rebellion, are examples of the
crimes he lays at America's feet. Rapacious British = White = America.
That's why he wants to level America by reducing its military power and
individual Americans' standard of living. Of course this is misguided;
America is itself a former British colony which expelled its overlords
in a bloody revolution.

He used liberals (along with the independents and disgusted Republicans)
to get himself into power, but he's got another agenda all his own that
is well beyond disagreements over who pays what tax rate and whether
teenage rape victims should be forced to become mothers.

Therefore
he'll adopt progressive issues where they help him and not an inch
further. For instance, when he saw some of his base slipping, he did
finally evolve his own, deep, personal, individual view on gays marrying
-- but he also flat-out said he's not going to put any energy into it
as President.

He's stepped up the leftist agenda in his lame duck period, mainly because it serves to destroy what he considers the colonial superpower that so aggrieved his father.

Bush ran in 2004 after signing the Patriot Act. McCain and Romney said nothing in favor of eliminating it. (And, par for the course, Obama said a few things about it previously but has been all too happy to enjoy the power of his position since 1/20/09.) As I've said, Trump bubbles with enthusiasm about shutting down the Internet and spying on people. Christie, Jeb, and Rubio are statist shits who support this stuff. Carson does too but I give him a pass because I really don't think he understands any of this. Cruz is trying to court some libertarianish voters but I don't have any faith that he won't be a vigorous supporter of the CIA, NSA, and FBI once in power (not to mention the EPA and BLM, so good luck ranchers).

Yes. But all of that stuff happens with explicit approval from Congress and our Presidents to "protect us from terrorists." And everybody says "Murica!" and votes for them. No matter what anyone says, these power-hungry people keep running and we keep electing them. Demonstrated preferences matter more than anything else.

243 The Hill has a story from a former DHS employee who says the Obama administration ordered DHS to remove information from files of muzzies in America that indicated ties to terrorism.

See, that's the way to prove there are no muzzie terrorists in America: just delete the information! Then you can import millions more muzzies, because of course none of them are going to be terrorists either (the delete key on DHS computers will make damn sure of that!).

Traitorous F*cker Obama has politicized every damn branch of the federal government. He is determined to get as many foreigners and muzzies into the U.S. as possible, and doesn't give a hot shit how many of them are here to kill Americans.

Thanks again to all the POS voters who imposed this POS "president" on the rest of us.

245 Loyalty to the family became loyalty to the tribe. Tribes became extended to alliances of tribes. In time, loyalty extended beyond blood to the city-state. City-states became States. States became United States. (I may have glazed over a few steps.) For good reasons.

In the course of things, we will have - must have - one sovereign world-state. Until then, it's "wars and rumors of wars," among opposing "sovereign" entities.

When I was young and dumb, I saw Alaska's and Hawaii's stars added to the flag, and I thought, wow, others could join in our Constitutional government, too! I imagined a possible North American union (I think I picked that up from some comic book). Back when I thought better of both Canada and Mexico.

WW2 ended less than a decade before I was born, and was still picking up the pieces when I was young. I saw Europe form a Union, and I hoped it would be a real "United Europe" like the USA is, bringing peace after hundreds of years of European war.

Even the African Union seemed positive as a development. All of these, in theory, seemed good.

I did not view all unions of states as positive, of course - the USSR in particular. All I ever needed to see was the bodies hanging on the fence between the Germanys to know that the USSR was a prison.

Eventually, I learned that the United Nations was more the enemy of free people than a route to world unity.

Throughout, though, I pledged allegiance exclusively to the flag of the United States of America.

What the Internationalists and New World Orderers want is to eliminate national sovereignty and impose a world union that is more USSR than USA. A godless order of rule by men, in violation of everything our Constitution and ideas of Rights stand for.

As such, we must do everything possible to resist them. Everything.

I still believe a world union is inevitable. Perhaps in a thousand years or two, the rest of the world can learn to have government the way the United States has - or, had, and is forgetting to preserve. Then we might begin to evolve to a worthy world union. Only then.

How many nations will fall and rise, how many wars will be fought, before that? God only knows. We can only endeavor to preserve what we've been given.

In the immediate perspective, one thing seems clear to me: There is only one candidate in the running for President this year who has argued for the sovereignty of the Republic and defended the Constitution against our enemies. He may be flawed and naive in some ways, but there is no other Constitutionalist running. And it's not the "Make America Grate Again" guy.

290 I've always thought a North American Union was a good idea in theory-

given all the natural resources and ports, etc.

But, of course, it would have to follow the Constitution, so that would mean making everyone Americans.

Canada would be an easy fold in, except for -

Quebec.

That might require an armed invasion-

or perhaps, an embargo on berets might do the trick.

They're sorta kinda French so who knows?

Mexico would be tougher due to all the corruption and leftist values-

I suppose we could gobble it up, say, ten miles at a time-

go in, kill all the drug lords, etc, imprison corruptocrats, set up schools to teach American values.

A long time project for sure, which dooms it to failure.

Mexico is more or less a failed state with a thick, creamy layer of rich oligarchs.

299 No matter Cruz's faults and "faults", he is clearly a substantial candidate. Rubio, on the other hand, is a lightweight. A lightweight who 1) has few convictions, 2) has wobbly convictions and is easily rolled, or both. In any case, he shows amazingly poor political judgement having hitched his wagon to Schumer and now to Gillibrand, embracing the existence of nonexistent campus rape culture. And wow, all the lies he told while shilling for the Gang of 8 bill.

His instinct seems to be to be being lured into embracing what conservatives are against, assuming he's didn't start out sympathetic to those things in the first place. He is completely out of touch with the base and has an odd attractions to NY senators.

I am not idealistic about politicians and politics (I believe that, generally, politics attracts the worst kind of people and incentivizes bad behaviour), but AFAIC, those two sins of Rubio's are politically unforgivable and I will not support him in the primaries.

There's a semi-interesting story behind that.

When Britain signed off on turning Hong Kong over to the Commies-

most of those who were reasonably well-off or flat out wealthy were looking for a place to go.

Canada, or maybe it was specifically Toronto, made it extremely easy to come aboard.

In any event, most of the ex-Hong Kongers wound up in Toronto.

and Toronto and Canada got a nice little economic boost out of the whole thing.

I always wondered why we, that is the US gov't didn't attempt the same thing-

325 Sadly, the 1812 Overture doesn't commemorate Jackson's asskicking of the

What's funny is that Canadians think that they won that one. No lie, the phrase I've heard more from Canadians than any other is "We burned your White House in 1812", despite the fact that a) it happened in 1814 and b) the troops that did it were straight off the boats from fighting France, with not a single Canuck regiment among them.

Depending on my mood I either ask them to come burn it again today or simply smile and say "And any time you're game for a rematch, just let us know".

Posted by: Stringer Davis at February 06, 2016 10:34 AM (xq1UY)

The Spanish have no real point. They had ceded control of the Louisiana Territory to France as part of their voluntary inclusion into Napoleons empire, and Napoleon needed cash.
The Spanish didn't get the Silver and Gold given voluntarily to the war effort back either, it was also used to satisfy debts of the Empire.

This is a warning to any would be globalists.

Black (African? ) people's skin gets darker too, at least on the face. Happened to both parents, who were relatively light skinned (compared to most of their countrymen.) Must be cumulative sun exposure because their bodies were/are still light skinned.

Generally the rest of our bodies are lighter than our faces but age exacerbates the difference.

I would love to hear an old-style composer (not in the vein of Glass or Britten) do an opera or orchestral piece on the 1812 war.
The whole thing winds up to a crescendo, a peaceful resolution movement to signify the treaty of Ghent, followed by the intersection of British marching music, bombasitc orchestration slowly being eclipsed by a finishing piece that is a tribute to Yankee Doodle and Johnny Horton's Battle of New Orleans.

373 299 No matter Cruz's faults and "faults", he is clearly a substantial candidate.

This is where I am too. A very central argument Rubio uses in his stump and debates (which is basically paragraphs of his stump), is electability as an argument unto itself. Hillary doesn't want to face me. I'll beat Hillary. Using that as a central argument in a primary before anyone voted (now we have Iowa that has voted) is trying to shortcut the difficult and sometimes primary process. It's also a tell that Rubio is going to pivot hard to the center as soon as he can. This is the most conservative Rubio you are going to get, right now, and it's not enough for me anymore.

Above that, it's all based on him polling a point or 2 better than Cruz vs Hillary. I'm not having it. Cruz needs to take this non-argument head on tonight in the debate, and I bet he does. His campaign has been run really well. They are well aware this is going to be a slog for them and they will have to take fire from all directions if they are going to come out on the other side.

Posted by: Tim in Illinois Dump Trump! Luze with Cruz! at February 06, 2016 09:19 AM (WVsWD)

My take on it: whether he knew about it or not, Cruz did not take advantage of his birthright Canadian citizenship. Didn't vote, didn't join the Canadian Forces, didn't get a passport. Meanwhile, as per established U.S. law, had automatic U.S. citizenship by virtue of being born to an American mother.Which citizenship he has exercised. And he has since legally renounced his Canadian citizenship. Ergo, no divided loyalties, either in theory or in practice, which certainly meets the intent of the "natural-born citizen" clause for Presidential eligibility.

396 Certainly a gold star for Cruz on this, and it also gave power to state rights over commands from POTUS to shut up and obey his (Bush) directive. It confirmed (from my non-lawyer reading) that a treaty signed by POTUS does not overrule US law, unless Congress confirms it.

The article does read like the campaign flyer it is, for the "amazing" Ted Cruz. It says Abbott "agreed", seemingly with Cruz as the initiator. I think Abbott agreed with Gov. Perry, seems more likely. Then they assigned Cruz. That doesn't take away from the work Cruz did, but he no doubt had counsel at every step. But Cruz was doing his job, not initiating the fight for sovereignty on his own.

But it's a good story, to help counter his TPP squishiness. Even with his high heels, Rubio doesn't stand knee high to Cruz. Trump is still stronger on trade and borders, and has executive experience and motivational abilities ... but I wish he had more of Cruz's legal and constitutional strength.
