1 Good Morning Morons. Today is Thursday, January 28, 2016. Since we're all full of snowmageddon lately lets go with this one. On this in 1887 in a snowstorm at Fort Keogh, Montana, the world's largest snowflakes were reported, 15 inches wide and 8 inches thick. I'll bet there were a few "Holy Fvcks" for that one.

2 We knew it was coming and I hope that idiot Merkel is happy.

Hundreds of potentially violent Islamic radicals, including at least 50 who have traveled to and from the Islamic State where they took up arms for ISIS, now live in Berlin, a top German law enforcement official told FoxNews.com Wednesday.

Investigators have identified 680 hardcore Islamists in the German capital, nearly half of whom are geared toward violence, said a spokeswoman for the Berlin office of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, Germany's equivalent of the FBI. While the ISIS veterans are most worrisome, all pose a serious threat, she said.

The question is, how do we stop that idiot in the WH from doing the same thing here? Congress won't and it is unlikely the courts will given the way things have gone lately. The only thing I can say is we are screwed because too many asshole lay-abouts want their free shit and government cheese. And for that I blame LBJ, I hope the devil is giving his ass a hard time.

8 It doesn't matter who wins the Demo primary, they are both pushing for major economy killing tax hikes. So unless Republicans retain control of congress and do not sell us out (big if), and one of these two communists wins the general election we are doomed to sink further into depression II. As for Republicans retaining control after they were given congress on a silver platter and then proceeded to sell us out right and left, I see that as being a chancy thing.

17 Drones with cameras have become common now and a lot of them are being used by perverts to spy on women through windows. This article discusses this new issue and bemoans the fact that the laws have not caught up with this phenomena and we need "new laws". Any time I hear that refrain I choke. We have plenty of laws on the books for this kind of crap, what we need is to enforce them. Looking in through a neighbors windows falls under "peeping tom" laws. Take a picture of the drone, take it to the police station and have the drone flyer charged as a peeping tom, which would make him/her a sex offender. If it is just flying around your yard have them charged with trespassing. But if you live in the stupid State of NJ (poor you) do NOT shoot it down with a shotgun.

Once when I was in San Diego I and some shipmates when to a CnW nightclub. It was built with a large parking lot beneath the elevated building for the nightclub. It had concrete stairs at each end of the wall that had the club on top.

When we left the club later that night we lined up at the rail above the parking lot and urinated off the ledge. We heard this yell from the bottom and looked down. We had peed all over a cop and he was running for the stairs. We beat feet to the other set of stairs and got away.

74 From the ONT

With paragraph breaks!

On Tuesday I got a call from the local Trump campaign office. They had seen where I had offered to volunteer, and were calling me on it.

I agreed, gladly, and went in yesterday at noon to meet and greet.

I was given the run down, and about fifty high quality yard signs, a couple a hundred Trump bumper stickers, some lapel stickers, flyers, etc., and was going to go disperse those to the minions when at the last minute, because, short handed for the day, they asked me to stay and be the receptionist/greeter/phone answerer...

I wasn't planning on it, but said, ok, fine, and stayed there until about 1730. It was great fun to meet the diversity of people coming in off the street, including four different groups of two or more from Texas, in town for various reasons.

The Upstate of South Carolina has a strong Trump presence and base of support.

Anyway, enjoyed myself, felt I'd helped some, so I'm going back today for another five or six hours...if it looks like I'm doing some good, I may make that a regular habit...at least until after the primaries... Anybody want a T-shirt!?

Not really. Gutfeld's been such a big disappointment to me. I was a HUGE Red Eye fan during its classic era. And before I cut the cable, I was only keeping it for FNC, and in particular, Red Eye and The Five (because Gutfeld.)

But his rapid change from a free-thinking Conserv-a-tarian into a shameless GOPe shill made it easier to ditch cable. It's gotten to the point where just seeing his face makes me ill.

Before, even when I disagreed with him (not often), he was interesting and original and clever and made you think. Seeing what he's become, it's just sad.

Man, you have an interesting gym!

The "biggest" name at mine is a moonbat hard-Leftist local city councilwoman. The type who openly and proudly holds gala fundraising parties for Planned Parenthood (or "Dancing for Dead Babies" as her local critics call it) and publically ditched her long-time church, which she suddenly discovered was "intolerant," and joined an Episcopalian church just because it has a lesbian minister. (the councilwoman herself is not gay.)

I always kind of hope her fat ass falls off the spin bike.

Posted by: CrotchetyOldJarhead at January 28, 2016 07:22 AM (VcKnO)

Sure they did, but as I said, the stock market crash did not cause the depression. Rolling back the over-manufacturing of radios and laying off a bunch of people as well as closing a few other industries that supported those radio manufacturers caused a recession. FDR's BS took the recession which we would have recovered from in probably a year or two and made it into a depression with > 20% unemployment.

Very quiet. Warmer and clear.
Troops are being constantly pulled from this sector and moved up to VI Corps. Very little word from there, but it is apparent that sector is to be the main effort. We have only two divsions on the front - both weak. 10 Corps has one Bn holding a division sector.

"this sector..." = Liri Valley/Rapido River/Cassino front
"VI Corps" = Anzio invasion force
"10 Corps" = British 10th Corps- holding the left flank in the Liri Valley sector.

The correlation between bad business practices and government intervention during that period is readily observable for sure. In fact, the same conditions exist today.

You and I agree on the gist of the subject. I think FDR simply leveraged those conditions in an opportunity to invoke his ideas of socialism and to some extent communism and THAT is what led to the depression. Teh Affurmatif Axshun Preznit is trying to do the same. Fortunately, he's not as shrewd or smart as FDR and he is completely incompetent. Additionally, the economy is a lot more diversified.

Texas would have a much easier time of leaving (barring the figuring out who gets what) than most states. All we have to do is prove that the current US Government is no longer legitimate. All you have to do for that is look at Article IV. They're supposed to provide security and counter invasions. Well, even if you don't consider what's going on with the Southern border an invasion (it is), there's still the fact that ISIS has a training camp just on the other side of the border, and a lot of evidence has emerged that Jihadis are crossing over from Mexico. The security failure is evident. We joined by treaty, and treaties with a defunct organization are null and void.

Just read yesterday (may have been the same story?) about how police were called to a refugee center in Sweden to assist a social worker in getting a 10 year old out of there because he was being repeatedly raped. The police were surrounded by an angry mob and eventually escaped. The kid was not rescued. .
.Exactly! It's all 100% genuine pure frontier gibberish when politicians claim they are going to close this agency or that one. It is not possible without the entirety of Congress on their side. Every Federal Agency is codified into laws that Congress wrote and no matter how many EO's they sign, it isn't happening. And people complain to high heaven when obama circumvents congress but they cheer when Trump or Cruz says they will do the same thing.

I can understand the good for the goose argument to some extent, but no one is closing any Federal Agency, at least not in the next 10-15 years. After that possibly because there won't be much left IMO.

What they're at war with is the concept of objective truth, particularly in politics and human relations. That's where their moral relativism comes from, and it's also why they're wrong about everything. Everything based in truth succeeds and succeeds repeatably, and their relativistic approach tells them that everything fair or foul has equal odds. They come to the conclusion that we're cheaters in the great game of life, and everything we've defeated along the way is a victim of our cheating ways. This fills them with outrage, and that's how they're so passionately and devoutly wrong about everything.

Without truth, all you have left is lies and madness.

There is medication for this I hope. Lets remember two facts: South Carolina seceded in December of 1860, before Lincoln became President, and fired unprovoked upon Fort Sumter four months later. Look, I grew up in the south (did you?) and, to me, what you say here sounds crazy. South Carolina held it's first formal secession convention in 1852. 400 I'll give No Child Left Behind this, it had effin teeth. The first 4 years were gravy to the states with easy goals to meet. The next 5 years the goals got very difficult to meet and states were forced to improve or lose money.

And since states couldn't or wouldn't improve they begged Obama for waivers; which he gladly did in exchange for implementing Common Core.

Lincoln wasn't even in office when states started to secede. Once he was in office, he was getting hounded for not doing anything.

Posted by: WOPR at January 28, 2016 08:43 AM (LTDSy)

405 There is medication for this I hope. Lincoln was toiling away, a political unknown, in Illinois in 1852. This Civil War emotionalism is just weird.

I propose that if we ever get a sane government again, we make laws that are nakedly unconstitutional, and attach to each of them a tax (on state governments) of one cent (per state) per year. If "legal as a tax" can justify anything, let's start by outlawing the Democratic Party. As a tax. Because fuck you. That's why.

Abraham Lincoln once said that the best way to get a bad law repealed is to enforce it strictly. Likewise, the best way to get a bad ruling rescinded is to abuse its precedent to the point where it makes people take action.

Lincoln's Cabinet meetings in the days before and after the attack on Sumter are instructive. I have some of the "Minutes" in book form, I assume all of it is public domain and available somewhere. I've posted long excerpts before, but since they didn't serve anyone's purpose, they didn't get much attention. 439 >>Judge Napolitano saying Hillary might be indicted for having staff remove "top secret" from government server....

*Hi Carol!*

According to a report by Catherin Herridge, "the
FBI is going directly to the intelligence agencies that generated the
assessments to determine the original classification level. The
investigators will go directly to depose specific individuals in agencies who generated the highly classified materials."

The poster at American Thinker suspects that "the
underlying reason to go to the sources of the assessments is to not
only determine original classification, but to root out those who had
access to those programs. This means Clinton-friendly members of the IC
who were read on were not only grossly mishandling classified
information, but committing espionage within the IC itself."

Yikes! I hope that's true. You have to imagine Hillary had a lot of helpers in gathering/distributing that classified info. Granny doesn't get her own tea, why would she be the one copying intel and sending it out?

Time to get more popcorn!

One option he proposed was buying out slave owners since it would have been cheaper, just in dollars, than the war was costing. He proposed it with Kentucky and it went nowhere with the slave owners.

The Southern establishment was wedded to slavery and it's expansion to new territories. Most in the North weren't going to abolish it but they also weren't willing to let it expand to new territories.

476 Not counting whether Lincoln actually had a fleet at sea, the issue of the ownership of "federal" coastal forts was a big 'un, and western land-lease issues show that it was not adequately settled. Remember, in the 1790's the US "legion" amounted to fewer than 2000 troops, plagued with, well, plague, but also scandal in recruitment and acquisitions. 1812 and the Mexican War were largely fought by state militias, more or less federalized, mostly less. The very ideas of a standing army and a permanent fleet were still hotly contested, and the compromise of thought in the day, to avoid argument, was that federal military holdings were at the states' willing forbearance.

Certainly a mandatory slave buy-back would have avoided general mobilization, but look at how hard we can argue over Australian gun laws, or eminent domain. There was no consensus that there was a national authority to compel such a thing, or to wield that much money. Not to mention that the largest user of slave labor was the federal government (how do you think all those forts got built?) Things would have come to a head anyway over those related issues. And many of the related issues got swept under a rug.

It's very hard to explain what a pure voucher system is to people who have never thought of education without a public school system.

Even among right leaning groups like here at AoSHQ, only about 10% can grasp the concept.

Bernie is a deadbeat who transfers his own lack of success onto everyone else and blames it all on unfairness keeping him from succeeding.

I said something yesterday along the lines of Crazy Man Yelling At Clouds is nothing more than a lazy, sullen twentysomething working at a low income job who's pissed off that the world doesn't see his inherent genius and reward him properly.

I guarantee he spends more "office time" bitching and moaning than actually doing work.

If Obama had a dad, Bernie would be him.

484 It is the twenty first century. Mankind has defeated nature and turned the forces of science, philosophy, and industry to the problem of shining the correct sequence of lights into his fellow man's eyes. Success in this field of endeavor will make all mankind hardworking, polite, capable of making informed purchasing decisions, racially sensitive, and possibly happy.

It is a time of strife. And to this strife has been added a new and terrifying style of total war.

These are the days...

Of Trumpenkrieg.

489 Trump, clearly a Royalist, though he envies the Roundheads their goofy haircuts, forms an alliance based on the overlapping interests of crossbows and catapults.

Cruz, though a native Catholic, alligns himself with the Puritans in support of Parliament. His natural appeal is to the longbow and trebuchet contingent.

Some say the nation could have been held together with stronger leadership from Prince Prius, others maintain that the die had been cast before he assumed office. The merits of the attack on Fort Kelly have been debated by historians for years.

Technological innovations prompted by wartime necessity increased he availability of firearms, which led to intrafactional infighting, as groups within each army split over .45 ACP vs. 9mm Parabellum, as well as the overlapping .223 vs. .30-06 squabble.

Lizzy, relatively little known to history, set things off by putting ketchup on a hotdog and running away. This led not only to the ketchup v. mustard war, but the splinter ketchup v. catsup war.

After considerable bloodshed but no particular movement, Trump reassessed his position and backed a Protectorate, vowing that Cromwell would make the Irish pay for the Hadrian Wall.

That's the catch, its hard to see how the Feds have any right to another State's property (i.e. especially warships sailing in South Carolina's territorial waters completely unprovoked).

It's an act of war to attack a manned fortification.

No, I will not play with you and pretend that the assholes in SC had "territorial waters".

Those assholes also fired on ships displaying the US flag, another act of war.

Lincoln refused multiple demands from forces in the North to declare war. he waited until the Confederacy doubled down on their stupidity and opened fire.

Only THEN did he call for troops to be raised to "put down an open rebellion".

Revisionist history is just that; revisionist claptrap designed to malign or backfill.

What they're at war with is the concept of
objective truth, particularly in politics and human relations. That's
where their moral relativism comes from, and it's also why they're wrong
about everything. Everything based in truth succeeds and succeeds
repeatably, and their relativistic approach tells them that everything
fair or foul has equal odds. They come to the conclusion that we're
cheaters in the great game of life, and everything we've defeated along
the way is a victim of our cheating ways. This fills them with outrage,
and that's how they're so passionately and devoutly wrong about
everything.

Without truth, all you have left is lies and madness.

I always look at dealing with the Left like dealing with the manipulative alcoholic who has or needs control over you.

No truth, no fact, no morality is sufficient to overpower what the current need is. No objective reality is sufficient to show that failure for everything being perfect is anything else but everyone else's fault.

It's funny how people bitch about Lincoln and go on complaining about Ft. Sumter...which was an honest to God 'let's start a fucking war', and ignore that Lincoln DID use strong arm tactics to keep MD ad Del docile and in line.

This is why the whiny attacks on Lincoln usually fail to impress. They want to ignore the whole icky, start a shooting war and enshrine slavery bits, but nag that Lincoln wasn't nearly as great an emancipator as his PR guy claimed.

563 Lincoln did not save the republic, he destroyed it by transforming the federal government into a boot on the neck of the states, and forever establishing its supremacy and primacy by means of slaughter.

567 Yesterday the guy killed in the "shootout" was brandishing a weapon. Today, he was reaching for his belt where a gun he was carrying was.

Tomorrow, he had his mind on a gun that was in his collection in AZ.

I happen to think that what those guys were doing in Oregon was approaching pointless, but they were occupying a nothing building in the middle of nowhere.

The occupy movement and the movement that took over the capital building in Minnesota and the movement that destroyed Furgeson and the movement that destroyed Baltimore were all left wing movements that killed actual people, raped actual women and destroyed actual property - buttloads of it.

Yet the tiny group of right wing protesters MUST BE STOPPED! And a guy - family guy - gets shot in the face for it.

572 Multiple regression analysis is a wonderful tool but certainly has its limitations. It can be dangerous when wielded by the intellectual featherweights that have overrun the social sciences. The author suggests that news stories that rely on multiple regression analysis should contain a disclaimer to that effect, in the hopes that people would learn to discount the article's authority. I'd venture that it would be more valuable to attach disclaimers to articles that depend on the opinions of social scientists, whether or not they rely on multiple regression analysis,
