I will say this. There is a possibility that the Establishment is in fact wish-casting that they can turn Trump into a Statist. If he wins, he may yet surprise us.

But past performance over time is a very strong indicator of future actions. And with Trump, that does not bode well. If he goes all the way, I hope to G-d I'm wrong. I fear I'm not.

Two ways of looking at it: either McCocksickle agrees with the commenters on the board that the GOPe thinks Teh Donald is more of a deal maker and "consensus builder" than Cruz, or the gutless windsock sees the direction things are going and decided to get in while the getting was good for some sweet, sweet taxpayer cash.

79 I used to watch CSPAN a lot also, back in the day (early 1990s, when I got a C-band satellite dish). I particularly enjoyed watching "Washington Journal" in the mornings. In those days the format was a moderator and two guests, one conservative and one lib. They would take calls and discuss various stories in the day's newspapers. Very entertaining, not the least of which because nearly every day you could watch the conservative hand the lib his/her head in the discussions. Something that I already knew then, but was showcased on that program is that the average liberal/left type is not very smart. Consistently the conservatives on the show were more intelligent, better educated and better informed than the libs, with the result that the conservative would tear the lib a logical new one just about every day. Only rarely would the lib come out looking better, on those rare occasions when they would dig up a conservative with poor debating skills. But nothing lasts forever, and after a few years CSPAN changed formats on that program, to just the moderator (a lib) and one commentator, who was usually lib, which made the show the one-sided liberal gabfest, just as you's see on the alphabets. Not nearly as entertaining so I quit watching...

It's been about three weeks since we received 9 inches of snow here in Wisconsin. I haven't left the house yet...but I will soon if supplies run out. We have two tins of sardines and a half box of saltines left out of the 1200 lbs. of food we stored last month for snowmageddon....

Luckily we brought the fire pit into the living room when the storm first began...at least we have been able to stay warm. The only thing that worries me is that we are running low on books and furniture to burn. I pray that the citizens on the east coast find a way to survive.

Kudelia is trying to get to Earth to negotiate with one of the power-blocks for more Martian autonomy. Naturally there are many players who don't want to see that happen.

143 The biggest problem I see with the National Reviews screed is that the GOP hasn't provided us with a palatable alternative to Trump.

Someone other than Cruz. Who I believe is far more establishment than he tries to seem and he definitely falls off for me over some of his basic opinions that he thinks will be good for the country.

The main one is his support for more imported labor of all sorts, the next is a refusal to consider stopping Muslim influx without some means of vetting them for jihadis. (of course it won't help those who flip while here but let's not import those who already have) and his being against stopping the anchor babies.

Just those disagreements are enough for me. That's besides my gut feeling that he's not showing his true self that he will be 100% GOPe ( or close enough to it) if he were elected.

People forget how many times the person we elect isn't the person who governs. I've seen enough elections to have seen it a few times.

It just isn't worth taking the chance when he appears so establishment. While Trump is either an unknown or a Democrat backer. None of which happened while he held an elective office. And that's the hope for me. That if he does just a couple things he said he would, then it will be worth it. Cruz won't even consider some of them.

The NR has been in decline since Buckley left and has become an organ for the establishment and not one of opposition to the liberal way.

(2) The proliferation of local news vans with satellite access and Columbia jacket wearing weather bimbettes dramatizing every breeze that smudges their mascara.

177 The big news today is the National Review manifesto against Trump.

That all boils down to their argument that Trump is driven by egotism as opposed to conservatism.

I'll take the ego.

Liberals and conservatives hide behind the dogma and the system to perpetuate the status quo. The politicians just follow the same template that has been used for decades, with no one accountable for results.

Trumps ego won't allow that.

No matter what happens, Trump will know he will either be blamed or given credit. His ego will drive major changes that will move the needle off of dead center, where it's been stuck for years.

Fuck the paid thinkers. They don't understand the science of how things get done.

204 Hey morons, let's not be stupid this time around.

I can't believe people are falling for the same horseshit Serial Divide and Conquer Technique that gave us Romney last go round.

Both Trump and Cruz benefit each other by being one and two.

That blocks out the people we definitely don't want and keeps them out of the game.

Lately, we've had a lot of concern trolling about Cruz.(I'm sure you know who they are.)

Whether you are being paid to troll or not, you are playing the GOPe's game...why?

Since Cruz is the heavy target these days..Let's ask--what happens if he gets knocked out?

That means Rubio or Jeb! or Kasich or the Fat Man takes his place, and that means Trump is now free to tack to the middle to appeal to their voters.

And soften his immigration policies.

Trump is only useful as a candidate as long as the competitive pressure comes from a conservative direction.

And if Cruz goes, Trump will be next- you don't think the opposition research teams doesn't have the same silly horseshit crap that they've been using on Cruz?

They do.

This is exactly how we got Romney as the nominee last time.

How'd that work out?

Let's try being smart this time and wait until say, after March 15 before tearing into either Trump or Cruz.

By then, it will be a done deal. The GOPe losers will be out at that point or inconsequential.

Boosting your guy? Sure, go nuts.

Tearing the other guy down?

Nope.

Reserve that for Jeb!, Kasich, Rubio, Christie. The sooner they're out, the better.

Then after Mar 15 unleash, do your worst -

cuz by then we as conservatives will have two good candidates.

Cruz or Trump.

And one or both of them will have enough votes, so that they won't have to deal with the GOPe-

and the brokered convention, which you know will give us Jeb! goes straight down the toilet.

I know...TL/DR.

Listen, I like Cruz, I want him to be VP.

Trump/Cruz could possibly be the best team since Martin and Lewis.

The idea of him running rough shod as President of the Senate send a thrill up my spine.

But let's not pretend Cruz is some principled "Conservstive"

Conservatism would never lead you to support this current H1b system, conservatism would never lead you to invert the treaty clause.

Cruz has a faulty understanding of the 14th amendment vis-vis illegal aliens, etc.

So let's not pretend Cruz is the second coming of William F Buckley or Burke.

I agree. Trump, unless he does something incredibly stupid to turn off the voters, will run away with it in a laugher. I think Cruz would win handily as well.

The Dems have nobody. And there is a real opportunity to send them into the wilderness for perhaps a generation.

This is why it pains me to see Trump go after Cruz from the left instead of going after the left itself.

Then again, the biggest obstacle to either as POTUS will be the entrenched GOP/CoC/Dem/MFM/Academia complex.

296 So, who benefits the most from the attacks on Cruz?

Here's a hint...It's not Trump.

The late attacks filled with half-truths, innuendo and lies going into a primary smell of the Bush group(see previous presidential primaries) and the GOPe.

Bush has been going hard after Rubio in his commercials. They are fighting for exactly the same voters.

If Rubio goes down, and Bush moves into his place
that makes Bush third.

If the current Cruz attacks by Jeb!/GOPe oppo research works, that will put Jeb! in 2nd place-

and make him the de facto main opposition to Trump

then all of that heavy duty money becomes a factor.

We saw this exact same game played out by Romney and his team-

knocking out conservatives because they weren't perfect

which gave us the perfect loser Romney.

This isn't 23 dimensional chess, and these Jeb!/GOPe consultants aren't as smart as they think they are-

unless you're as dumb as they think you are.

Let's keep things positive for both Trump and Cruz until after-

the Mar 15th primaries.

By, then Trump and Cruz will have the lion's share of votes-

which benefits us conservatives

because the a brokered convention which gives us Jeb! or Rubio cannot happen.

If Trump wins the election his strength will come from the American people. He needs the peoples support to get anything done. We know how the liberal press will treat him, and the commie donks, and the Vichy rhinos with their long knives. If Trump tries to get this country back on track and the people are giving their support to him, he will be doing a good job. If not, the Washington government traitors will tear him apart.

Cruz would be in the same boat.

Our enemies are not Trump or Cruz. We know who the enemy is.

412 A lot of GOPe are pushing Trump to avoid Cruz, Conservatives (See Nat Review) want to destroy Trump to get Cruz, but what they'll get is Rubio or Christie. They should take the win that it won't be Jeb! They should be satisfied with border issue being solved, and make it clear that their support is conditional on Cruz getting VP slot.

The Nat review crowd on Hannity were so nasty that they are in danger of turning me from Conservatism to populist nationalism, and I'm Canadian!

The Red Stockings, while it was a nickname that WAS used during that time period, did not play in 1893. They were part of the Players' League in 1890 and the American Association in 1891. The Boston Red Stockings... the team we now know as the Red Sox, were not founded until 1901 with the rest of the American League.

Billy Something-or-other didn't play in 1893. His career spanned from 1883 to 1890, and he was on teams in Chicago, Pittsburgh, and Philadelphia. Of course, he eventually became much more famous as an evangelist preacher.

Since the Iran deal wasn't a treaty, the treaty clause was irrelevant. I could have a field day in the UK.

You guys do know that they are measured on the TOP, right? Most consistent (and least flattering) way of measuring it....

494 I have no idea if they are being serious or not, but I don't take them seriously even when they are. What I don't understand is why they have "Romney for President" standing next to a picture of Warren Beatty.

NRO's "Against Trump" thingy may as well be an endorsement of MittBot.

Somebody who I'm supposed to pay attention to, I guess, called The Donald "America's Middle Finger."

If they keep that up, he'll definitely get my vote. I'm just enough of a rebel to do it, and these days, there's a lot to rebel against.

Ironic that 20 years later she had a hit with "Don't Sleep in The Subway," since that's exactly where her original fans were sleeping.

Every time I hear that song I think of the 1961 musical Subways Are For Sleeping, which was about a group of "lovable" homeless people sleeping in the NYC subway system. The producer was the legendary David Merrick, and as part of his advertising campaign, had big signs reading "Subways Are For Sleeping" posted throughout the subway system, but the transit authority made him pull them down, not wanting to encourage vagrants.

The musical was also responsible for Merrick's most famous PR stunt - he had an ad taken out in the Times containing rave reviews from what appeared to be the top NY critics such as Walter Kerr or Howard Taubman. . .except, if you looked closely at the pictures accompanying the blurbs, they weren't pix of the critics at all - instead, they were pix of people with the same names

497 I probably should write more of novel. And job hunt more.

Was thinking of the Greywolf thing. But I don't know if I have anything non-fiction to contribute. 25k words is a very tall order to crank out. But that $12k prize and a publishing contract does tempt muchly.

499 Trump, meanwhile, can't even consolidate the base on the right.

Yet he wins the Drudge poll. That magnificent bastard!

They don't care if it's Bush or Clinton. They just want the gravy to continue. The spice must flow. This is why Cruz is worse than Trump. This is why Bush has spent 42 million dollars attacking rivals, but not one ad about Trump

507 Old VWs used 15" tires, which is another reason they are good in snow). But best car in snow? My '95 Mazda 626! Drove it home behind the snow plow one night. The snow plow was fish tailing through the stuff. Then he turned off and I drove through unplowed snow, about 18" deep for two miles. That car always got me home.
