Bitter fight between two weary, old players came down to the wire yesterday. But enough about the Democrats' debate.

2 Good Morning Morons. Today is Monday, January 18, 2016. On this day in 1967 Albert DeSalvo, AKA the "Boston Strangler", was convicted of numerous crimes and was sentenced to life imprisonment. Oddly enough he was convicted of sex crimes, including rape and murder of one woman, and not all the actual strangler cases. He was sent to a mental hospital where he escaped. After that he was sent to a maximum-security prison where he was stabbed to death.

Obama illegally repealed the sanctions against Iran with his pen and phone. Now he is placing new ones in with his pen and phone again. And they will be an international joke.

The United States has imposed sanctions against 11 individuals and entities involved in Iran's ballistic missile program as a result of Tehran's firing of a medium-range ballistic missile.

6 The latest incredibly stupid thing to be "offended by"; collard greens with peanuts in them. So according to this account Whole Foods should not be advertising collards with peanuts because it is usurping a black food. This whole "soul food" myth is offensive to me. It was born when a lot of blacks moved North where the MFM lived and carried common Southern cooking with them.

No shit; you are the expert on that. A Republican would already be in jail for accepting bribes over the crap you have done. This is just another example of how stupidly she is campaigning. But she will be saved on this one because the average Democrat voter has no idea how she has been gaming the system with that phony charity.

18 Paris (AFP) - A woman has been arrested for indecent exposure after lying down naked in Paris's Musee d'Orsay in front of Edouard Manet's similarly nude painting of the prostitute Olympia, her lawyer said Sunday.

"Putting an artist in custody sends a very bad message," said Bouzenoune, slamming a "worrying judicial prudishness".

He cited the case of South African artist Steve Cohen who was found guilty of indecent exposure in 2014 after dancing around in front of the Eiffel Tower with a live rooster attached to his penis with a ribbon.

The message it sends is dont block other people's ability to view the paintings. These galleries are very crowded.

Rubio: We're Not Going to Round Up and Deport 12 Million People

Amnesty advocates roll this out every time they want to defy the average American and give a new third round of amnesty. First off nobody has ever called for rounding up the illegals and deporting them. Second that 12 million number is BS, the actual number is much higher and growing exponentially thanks to Obama's non-enforcement actions.

The company used to let them leave the production line twice a day to pray, but now they can only pray on scheduled breaks. The muzzies are protesting, naturally, claiming they have the right to practice their religion on the job as they see fit (tell that to the Christian bakers and photographers!).

I wonder why the company changed the policy. My guess is that the old policy was being abused. Anyway, no doubt there will be lawsuits from the usual suspects (i.e. CAIR).

Smelled like the wet grass in the lawnmower like freaked said above... BUT, they cajoled me and they smell MUCH worse while cooking. Now you probably have to find a good southerner to show you how to do it, but they had a couple of big ham bones in there and some onions... and it took a good bit of cooking that I remember.. cause it really smelled up the place... but it was really, really good. I think I had 3 helpings.

It was still a worthwhile movie to see and it was interesting to hear some comments of the patrons afterwards, " Absolute incompetence:..They didn't have any help..... Where were Hillary and Obama?. 157 It's a false straw man argument to say that we're going to round up 20 million illegals and just ship them off all at once.

No. The idea is to ENFORCE OUR IMMIGRATION LAWS and deport any foreign national here illegally, regardless of how long they have been here. Concomitant to that is to SEVERELY PUNISH anyone who knowingly employs illegal aliens and CUT OFF all benefits to them.

By the way, Truman and Eisenhower each deported several million illegals during their administrations, and that's when the US total population was about half of what it is.

So it can be done. The question is the will to do it.

Posted by: J.J. Sefton at January 18, 2016 08:21 AM (zLP1L)

158 I'm for making them self deport and scare 'em. If you're here illegally, you have 60 days to self-deport. If you cannot afford to go home, report to DHS office give all info and your deportation will be scheduled HOWEVER you will be in the system. We will deport you and pay for it, but you'll have a chit to pay back when and if we allow you to immigrate later.

If you do not self deport or turn yourself in to be deported. You will be denied EVER gaining a green card or a VISA. That is, once you are caught after a date certain, you will be shown the door.... you and yours. NO more benefits for illegals. No more tax ID #'s. No more child credit. No more job.

If you are found out to be employed, the employer will be forced to watch videos of all of Obama's speeches and a video of an interpretive dance of the sissoring of Huma, Hillary and ValJal by the 23rd Street dance troupe accompanied by the 4th St. accordion ensemble. YES!

Also, it's closer to 34 million illegals. That 11-12 million number has been used for decades to hide how many are really here.

Beck's greatest contribution to America was, when doing his 5 p.m. gig on Fox (garnering many eyeballs at that hour), laying out the history of progressivism, the interpersonal and inter-organization connections between progressives. He also brought the evil that is George Soros to the light of day for many. He was also the first to call Barry a racist (which is true and for which he received much heat). He done good then. Now? He's done.

Trump's candidacy and the exploding heads was all fun and games and quite good to see. But now we are getting to the point where this man has an actual shot at winning it all.

So for all the diehard Trump supporters out there, it really is time to take a good, long, hard look at this man's past positions and start trying to figure out the details of what he is going to do.

"It's going to be so damned amazing" is no longer enough. We need the details, and I fear he is sorely lacking in that department.

Does Trump pick one of the others running or does he go and pick from the ether like McCain did. Or another non-politician? He kinda needs to pick someone that would further his policies after Trump's 8 years.. Not another HW Bush type.

He said (approx.), "I want to thank all the white men who have been winning these awards for years because they made his show stand out (?)..." or something like that. It was ungracious, but of course the crowd loved it because they think that whining about not enough non-white people in their industry getting award nominations/wins actually matters to the rest of us, to our society. What a bunch of virtue-signalling tools.

Sauce, goose, gander, JJ.

Everyone is eager to bad-rap Trump (in some cases with good reason) but I see no calls to grill Cruz on some of the less-savory aspects of his two-year career in politics and the decisions made therein.

I would love to see a policy/accomplishments-based election once before I take the Dirt Nap, but I sure as hell don't expect it. It always seems to come down to insult and innuendo.

My support for Trump is a "big-picture" thing based on him saying the things I think need to be said, and his past successes (which can only have been the product of him delivering what he promises), so I can't help you with the details. It bothers me not at all that he's Big Mean Meanie who is Mean, which seems to make so many True Conservatives pull out their barf bags.

No one seems to be able to defend Cruz even that much. They just get upset when someone dares to criticize him. In that respect, it is almost Choom Boy-esque.

Ethanol raises the octane rating of gasoline, allowing a higher compression ratio if car makers take advantage of it. Ethanol also causes the engine to burn cleaner and cooler so that there is less carbon build up over time.

US farmers increased corn production by more than enough to make up for ethanol use. What has raised corn prices world wide has been the increased prosperity of the Chinese who are now eating more meat and are importing a lot more grain to feed their pigs and chickens.

But looking at the anger inherent to Muslims it kind of makes his dating failures more understandable. He recently went on some extended Twitter rant that revealed his angry side. He's now on my ignore list.

Sen. Lindsey Graham endorsed Jeb Bush this past week, calling him best-prepared among the Republican candidates to be commander in chief. And now, the Bush is trying to enlist Graham's help in winning another high profile endorsement: that of Arizona Republican Sen. John McCain.

Team Bush wants a McCain endorsement for two big reasons: to quiet talk that the Bush campaign is no longer viable, and to echo Graham's case that Sen. Marco Rubio isn't ready to be President.

280 On ethanol:

Cruz previously said he wanted to repeal the RFS mandate but with no specifics.

Cruz, recently, said that he wants to phase out the RFS mandate over the course of 5 years.

It was a standard loan, which Cruz collateralized with his house.

Zero out of the ordinary, except-

*thunder*

*evil laughter*

Goldman-Sachs gave him the loan!!!!!1111!!!!!

This just feeds into the general level of ignorance and pure stupidity of the Left and, I guess, of some on the right.

Yeah, Goldman-Sachs as an organization sucks.

No, it wasn't some weird "never payback" loan or zero interest or anything like that.

And goofballs, if your wife works for Goldman-Sachs, you get your loan from Goldman-Sachs.

292 The problem with ethanol is that it's hydrophilic, it attracts water, draws it out of the air. So you can get rough running, fuel separation, etc. I notice the difference in my lawn mower, just started using non-ethanol in my car, supposedly I'll get a few more miles per tankful compared to the 10% ethanol I had been using. Probably never notice it, but I feel better using "real" gasoline.

It boils down to this. I really like both and will support/vote for either if either gets the nod, as is seemingly the trajectory.

What I did not appreciate was the attacking of Cruz from the Left and not on the substantive issues. I think that was a big mistake by Trump.

I have a good idea where Cruz stands on the issues and yes his past positions. But I am satisfied that given everyone who is or was in the race that he is the best choice.

I have supported Trump because in the early going, he took all the fire from the MFM and kept Cruz in the clear. More importantly, he awakened a very large group of people by hitting a nerve about how fucked up this nation is, whatever his real positions were and now are.

It's too bad that it's a battle between the two and it turned ugly early. A Trump/Cruz Cruz/Trump combo would be electorally unstoppable as well as do wonders for the state of the nation.

I hope that that can be resurrected, but I doubt it. I certainly hope and pray that either of them wins it.

Ethanol raises the octane rating of gasoline, allowing a higher compression ratio if car makers take advantage of it. Ethanol also causes the engine to burn cleaner and cooler so that there is less carbon build up over time.

Also, if you put too much ethanol into an engine that hasn't been specifically engineered for it, the engine goes tits up when the seals and fuel lines degrade. Big problem when most of the vehicles on the road haven't had that engineering.

This time I fear it will be an election between a Nationalist and a Socialist. sigh. I am still hoping there will be a Conservative on the ballot

conservatism / classical liberalism would be ideal yet i fear both are in short supply, possibly dead at present. look past the current cycles for a way back

Er, wat? A "higher compression ratio" in and of itself is a function of cylinder head design, not alcohol.

I think he meant 'allows a higher compression ratio.'

(Not that I'm agreeing or not.)

317 those troubled by Goldman and the big investment banks, I have zero doubt that Trump has long and deep relationships with them of several decades.

He did not solely self invest as his creditors know

It's a sad state of affairs when believing in the interests of your own country first gets the pejorative 'nationalist' attached to it.

We've had nearly 8 years of an internationalist. The pendulum will not be denied.

It was a standard loan, which Cruz collateralized with his house.
Posted by: naturalfake

The spin I saw last week was that the loans were backed by Cruz's stock portfolio, but not the point of raising the issue.

If one of your attacks against the front-runner is he's a detached rich guy, while you're the average family man, advising voters that Cruz is also a 1% type is smart politics.

Posted by: Laurie David's Cervix at January 18, 2016 09:32 AM (kdS6q)

321 What bothers me about Trump's attacks on Cruz is not the legitimacy (or lack of same). It's the timing. Trump could have done all this months ago, but he didn't because he was #1 in the polls.

As soon as polls appear that show Cruz ahead of Trump...that's when Trump goes after birtherism, etc.

I find that a bit scary. It shows an Obama-like side to Trump, where it's all about him and that's all.

Obama's supporters were thrilled to support him because he was black, and not because of any policies he had in mind. I'm hoping I'm wrong about Trump--and I will support him if he's the nominee--but I hope people aren't supporting him just because he gives the Media and the GOPe the vapors.

Yes; I agree. The DNC loves this stuff as they love the circular firing squad. I personally am already tired of the vitriol with partisans of each camp going full throated "He's evil" or "Ypu're evil for supporting him"-whichever one people do. It's not so bad here, but other sites, the nastiness is off the charts.

Really a shame.

Well of course I want someone who believes in the interests of America. But I want that person to do so within a consistently conservative ideological framework. Pure nationalism is just mob rule

Trump even admitted that he attacked Cruz at this moment *because* of the polls

Posted by: chemjeff at January 18, 2016 09:35 AM (uZNvH)

327 I don't think Trump or Cruz are "bought". If taking a loan from a bank makes you "bought", Trump is far more "guilty" than Cruz. He knows his reasoning is nonsense. Bellowing "Goldman Sachs!" Is as dumb as yelling "Haliburton!". It's a leftist move stolen from leftists. If Heidi Cruz were a lobbyist, he would have a point. He doesn't. It's an attempt to smear someone unfairly and relies on the ignorance of the voter

Posted by: ThunderB at January 18, 2016 09:38 AM (zOTsN)

328 Money comes with strings then Trump is a ball of yarn

Posted by: ThunderB at January 18, 2016 09:39 AM (zOTsN)

329 I am not saying it is forbidden to criticize Cruz. I said the three
things Trump has focused on, NBC, the loan from Goldman and his being
disliked are pretty lame. Frankly the best one is the last one

But I guess you can't even say Trumps attacks are kind of lame and are stolen from HuffPo

Posted by: ThunderB at January 18, 2016 09:09 AM (zOTsN)

Except Cruz has better favorable ratings than Trump so even the "he is disliked" is really lame.

330 You should have watched the Dem debate. It was enlightening. The moderators were relaxed. They did not try and set the candidates against each other. The questions were mostly softballs (and why can't we have the same questions asked of ALL candidates? I'm sure the Repubs would like to answer "what would you like to bring up that we didn't ask?")

O'Malley is the only one that sounds like a Dem. And if you think Goldman Sachs is a non-issue, Old Man Who Spits brought it up against Hillary. Cruz will definitely be tarred with it.

332 And one other thing: I spent the weekend working on the historical data for the Decision Desk. I wanted to do Oklahoma as I thought it would be nice to work on a red state. Even in the areas that went overwhelming Repub, there were no counties that voted 100% Repub. I truly believe there was voter fraud in the 100% Dem areas. There's always one person that will go against the grain.

Posted by: Notsothoreau at January 18, 2016 09:45 AM (Lqy/e)

333 I am sure the Dems are holding a bunch of info on trumps loans and finances just waiting to hit him with them in a general

Same here. I think this weekend pretty much ended any kind of future alliance between the two. Trump made sure of that.

His seven hours of anti-Cruz tweeting on Saturday was cray-zee. People were begging him to stop, it was awful.

Then his interview with Stephanopoulos yesterday. Trump's going full-out Romney on Cruz. It's going to get really, really, really ugly, I'm afraid.
