42 I bought a Chrysler back in June. They're still made in the US, so at least the dollars do some good here, and the one I got (the 200) was the top American car in the midsize category for safety. That was kinda a big deal after my Ford got totaled from a 30 MPH impact.

I'll never drive another Focus again after that, and Ford's mid-sizes were too expensive, at least in my market.

43 No, you can't say "I was a Bowie fan before he rode androgyny and Mick Jagger to fame, "I was a Beethoven fan before he was appropriated by the Kaiser," "Wagner wasn't really a Nazi (Strauss was though), "I was a Pats fan before they cheated."

When somebody effs up your car company, the vitriol splashes back. It lessens the pedigree of things built under their name before any of the current principals were born. Allowing these things to happen has been a defeat of one of the nearest and dearest quirks of American life.

'I don't need you tell me how to think because you want to suck up to the Commander in Chief. How about you drop your liberal, ideological nonsense and stop apologizing and start focusing on those who are out to kill those in your department. Aside from the profits still ultimately flowing back to Nippon, and Toyota cars having all the Fun Factor of a sink full of used dishwater, it's the "gadgets" that would steer me away. Yes, most of the fancy electronic stuff is pretty reliable, but I simply don't want it. I don't want the car to make decisions for me, park itself or nag me when it doesn't like my driving. Nor do I want it keeping tabs on how/where I'm driving, either for the Home Office or, in some cases, the Feds.

Saw an ad yesterday for a '53 Buick with a reported 31K original miles on it. Not my ideal car, but far more appealing to me than a new anything.

Food distribution has been used as a weapon before.

And now they want to use your ability to travel as a weapon. I can't wait to hear... "Hey! My car left last night without me and now I don't know where it is!" "Oh, that must be because you made some homophobic comment on the internet yesterday."

82 For sure, Jeep guys have suffered this indignity since "time immoral." Willys stole it from Bantam. Henry Kaiser "took them over" (heh). Then, AMC, Renault, Chrysler/Benz ("The 'Chrysler' is silent"), and then, being given away -- no, actually they paid them to take it -- to FIAT, who were willing to move here to collect.

How embarrassing. In its storied history (mostly horror stories) the brand has been under local management for less than one generation, split into parts. And their business-plan high point was when they inherited the big military units -- from Studebaker.

In the quaint little village where I live, plenty o' SAABs remain. There is, in fact, a repair shop that seems to concentrate on them; at least they are lined up out front most days. Not many miles up the road, a place called "Yankee Garage" routinely has its parking area stuffed with SAABs and Volvos.

It should also be noted that Oldsmobiles and Pontiacs remain plentiful in my neighborhood. They may outnumber Subarus, though not Toyotas.

Once Genial Motors decided they should be Opels -- or Subarus! -- with "SAAB" nameplates, the rot set in and the company was toast.

GM cut them loose and the only interested "buyer" was a nutball who was building an overpriced bling-encrusted "supercar" that nobody wanted. With no money, he couldn't revive the brand.

I'm looking to invest in a relatively new operation that leases low mileage, higher end used cars. I always thought seeing Bowie do "Little Drummer Boy/Peace on Earth" with Bing was just incredible. It came at the end of the hippie era and was almost as if it was a reconciliation between the older generation and rebellious youth.

Beyond that, it was just so revelatory about both Bing's and Bowie's openness and respect for one another's talents, despite by outward appearance being from so very different backgrounds.

And then of course it was all the more poignant that Bing passed away within a week or so of that duet.

Well, I imagine both are reunited and really making some incredible music.

Wouldn't have to all worked out right now (it's a lot of money and you'd need an ethical investment person to help) but here are a few:

Salvation Army

Loving Grace Ministry

St Luke Productions-Drama ministry

About four churches I know of who do good work in the community

Local food banks.

Homeless Veterans group in NJ

But yes, I'd also help my family and some people here I know who seem to be struggling

But it's sort of a moot point because i don't expect to win and if i do I hope it's 1 million dollars of so, not that obscene amount.

Well, we have a difference of opinion on charities.

I find them to be grossly inefficient and ineffective methods for people who want to feel good about themselves and for others to see what "wonderful" people they are to write a check without getting their hands dirty with the Riff Raff.

You know nothing about those particular groups.

I'm not sure how simply enriching your only family makes anyone but you feel good about yourself, but then againI'm not entirely sure whether you're a "real" person, or some persona created to push people's buttons-Like a completely self involved person making conservatives look bad. Half the stuff you say seems to be trolling.

It's your lack of *morals* that leads me to not want to do business with you rather than lack of ethics (not that you're the only Hordeling that holds true for).

252 P.S. The SalvationArmy gets involved with real people( all the time but they don't call them "riff raff." (Interesting you would use that term) They call them beloved children of God and treat them as individuals who are in need of healing and salvation.

I hope you're a persona-because you don't seem to have much empathy for others. Mr West.

253 "They call them beloved children of God and treat them as individuals who are in need of healing and salvation. "

It's a good thing they're around, otherwise you might have to deal with people in poverty yourself. Just imagine how distasteful that would be instead of just writing a check.

Charities are an industry that thrive on perpetual poverty. They seek to install system to deal with making the poor's lives marginally better, but never seeking to solve the root problems.

That's what liberals do.

Spend money, whine that there isn't more, keep the problem going and make sure the recipients rely on them for the rest of their lives.
