First of all he needs an enforcement mechanism WHEN the government ignores the constitution, which is what we are missing now. I would include the ability to impeach members of congress by the voters of all the States when they ignore the constitution. We have seen the total inability of congress to police its own members. And second the Supreme Court needs to be taken away from the federal government all together. The justices should be appointed by the States and the States must retain power to remove them.

I recall a day last year when we had a troll on here complaining about how bad it was when he was in the Army and stationed in the South and it was so racists everywhere he went. A lot of the anger directed towards Jews was the fact that usury used to be illegal for Christians so only Jews loaned money to princes and kings for their wars as Jewish law had no prohibition against making interest on loans. Then those same princes and kings didn't want to pay the loans back so they had to come up with something, that something being pogroms.

He just heard his supporters start up the Trump-Trump-Trump chant that they use to drown out protesters. (The crowd in Vermont clearly didn't know to do that, which is part of why that rally got so out of hand.) But in SC, Trump was craning his neck trying to see what was going on, and kept repeatedly asking what was going on, but with thousands of people yelling back at him at once, there was no way for him to decipher the answers.

So now at least that mystery is answered.

I watched the two versions of The Killers recently. The first featured Lancaster, and as is always the case in Burt Lancaster movies, he played Burt Lancaster.
The second one featured Ronnie Raygun in his final movie, with a ton of other stars. I thought that movie was exponentially better than the earlier version, but people somehow rave about the first, and somewhat dismiss the second.
Lee Marvin has one of the lead parts, and his sidekick in the movie is Clu Gulager. Gulager was interviewed years later, and had many interesting things to say. Including how often Marvin showed up drunk on set, and that Marvin would rip essentially everyone else in the cast (except Gulager, of course... at least not to his face).

So Marvin is talking about how much he can act circles around Reagan, and decides to play a little "trick" on Ronnie. There's a scene they have together, and Marvin decides after each take, he's going to say his lines differently, and he keeps making up reasons why he wants to do another take. Every time, Lee Marvin does the line a little differently, and every time, Reagan replies with his lines...PRECISELY the same way. Like a freakin' pro.

Gulager said it pissed Marvin off so bad, but he never messed with Reagan anymore.

Ha! For what it's worth, I don't think Gulager was necessarily ripping Marvin for his behavior... except maybe unprofessionally being drunk on set. Still, Marvin is his typical great self in the film.

I think the part about him talking about other actors on set (including at first treating Angie Dickinson like she was some non-acting bimbo) was more fragile ego than anything else.

Dickinson earned Marvin's respect when a particularly harrowing scene between the two of them had Dickinson needing to bring full expressions of horror and tears to her character, and apparently with each take she nailed it.

Yeah, I don't think someone like Lee Marvin mellows. The common denominator is respect for the craft. I'm sure he worked with many many lousy actors, and probably got tired of it. Then he got a chance to be paired up with people he underestimated, and however grudgingly, was able to change his opinions of them.

Amazon has the dvd, and apparently it's about good a copy as we're going to get, with some flaws in the sound, primarily. Instant video is not currently an option, and they say it's due to rights issues... so maybe that means somebody is going to be coming out with a better version soon??

Oh, and it is available for free streaming online, but I've never had much luck with streaming old movies. Quality problems.

A lot of the extras in it were real soldiers who were in the invasion of Okinawa. By the time the movie came out, a lot of them were dead. Including Ernie Pyle.

I do a lot of shipping for work. FedEx has always been wonderful for N.A. or Europe. I sometimes send things two-day and they wind up getting delivered overnight in the states. Not so much the Pacific. We send crap to Hawaii FedEx and it inevitably winds up stuck in a warehouse in China. No idea why. UPS on the other hand has been great sending to the Pacific.

For anyone who needs small package service for their business...

I bring in 20 to 100 lbs a week from China and used to use UPS. Now I use InXpress, a third party franchise that sells for DHL.

UPS was only giving me a 40% discount, where InXpress has a 70% discount off of the rack rate. Also, I receive packages in 3 days instead of the 10+ from UPS.

I really do think it's a personnel issue. Depending on who works your area will determine the quality of the service, which strikes me as odd.

I think fedex, at least whoever it is who works my neighborhood, is the dope they don't want working high traffic, business zones. They figure if he gets a few deliveries a week to any given neighborhood he can't screw up TOO high a percentage of his deliveries.

They figure wrong. It's a regular occurrence.

This InXpress service is still new to me, but when I tried them on the outbound stuff they delivered a package to Stavanger, Norway for me that UPS wanted $350 for. InXpress did it for $190.

When the Shah fell, the Iranian AF had Phoenix missiles which theretofore had a 100% kill ratio. To raise cash, they sold some to the Russians who were then able to spoof them. Spoof one, spoof all is the saying. So we had to redesign the targeting to get around that and the new one was not as effective as the old one.

It's a Big Deal at the time, though of course the Phoenix is now retired along with the F14.

You got that right. One of the post offices here locally is everything you'd expect from a government office, combining the efficiency of the DMV with the customer service of a welfare office (/sarc). I avoid that one at all costs.

Another post office, closer to my house, is professional, efficient, and the counter help is extremely courteous. I get in and out of there in a minimum amount of time.

So... guess which one they're going to close this year?

433 The interesting thing about the Philly situation is that the black Chief of Police, who was impressive, had absolutely no qualms about saying the attacker was a Muzzie inspired by ISIS, while it's the pasty white mayor with the line of PC bullshit.

It made me wonder if Philly has a situation like we do in Milwaukee with the nominally Democrat but completely un-PC straight talking sheriff Dave Clark who is frequently at loggerheads with our pasty Commie mayor, Barrett and much of the Dem city establishment because Clark dares to tell the truth. It absolutely drives libs nuts here that a black man like Clark has strayed off the PC Plantation and they can't do a damn thing about it because he's popular and wins his elections by a wide margin.

He was a Republican, and was best man at Ronald Reagan's wedding to Nancy. He and Ron remained good friends (even though Holden was a drunk) until Holden died in 1981, as I recollect.

I would say the default for most actors nowadays is they are Democrats/Lefties, as that is the fashion in Hollywood, like wearing an onion on your belt.
