Greenberg headed AIG from 1968 until he was pressured to step down in 2005. During the 2008 financial crisis, the Federal Reserve rescued the multinational insurance company with a bailout that grew to nearly $185 billion after it virtually went bankrupt and the government took control of roughly 80 percent of the company. To much public ridicule, Greenberg filed a class-action lawsuit against the federal government in 2011, arguing that the Federal Reserve had overstepped its legal authority during the bailout. He won the case in June but was awarded none of the $40 billion he sought in damages. Team Jeb: Top Men Posted by: Laurie David's Cervix at January 07, 2016 09:40 AM (kdS6q) 12

Why can't voters ignore the ads, emails, robocalls, and doorknockers and look at voting records?
Then all this brouhaha over campaign financing would evaporate. Candidates wpuld spend money to let people know they're running and give a platform, but then mostly shut up and let their record speak for itself. Posted by: Asmodeus Merkel at January 07, 2016 09:40 AM (1BhJn) 14

From Fox Business:
In an interview Wednesday, Mr. Greenberg didn't deny he made the contribution but said he wouldn't discuss it. Allies of Mr. Bush, the former Florida governor, maintain that money will make a difference in the race, especially in the first half of March when nearly two dozen states will hold nominating contests. "There will be so many states voting, so many delegates up for grabs and that means a lot of media markets to spend money in," said Mississippi-based GOP consultant Austin Barbour. "A lot of voters make up their minds at the last minute, and it you're not on TV, you have no chance." Methinks Mr. Barbour is really more concerned about his paycheck. He surely isn't that stupid. Over at NRO (You can't spell "RINO" without NRO) a case is made that the old model of carpetbombing voters with ads is over.
The top Republican consultants of today are Baby Boomers like Karl Rove and Mike Murphy. Rove wasted $300 million in 2012 trying to get voters to oppose Obama. Murphy is wasting over $100 million trying to get Republican primary voters to support Jeb Bush. The old political shorthand no longer works. It means nothing to Millennials. Cutting taxes to revive the economy is something that rich people say. Rove's 2012 anti-Obama ads were terrible. Voters think that conservatives (especially establishment Republicans like Mitt Romney and Jeb Bush) are ignorant and hostile to their interests. They have never heard a reasonable conservative argument for anything. Then all of the commercials Jeb! has made since then (at least that I've seen) feature one or more of these fake AWESOME JEB! MOMENTS- like "you can't insult your way into the white house". It's an interesting strategy in that it simultaneously attempted to rewrite the history of the debates- and gives the LIVs a false picture of Jeb! as anything but a soft, low-energy, privileged, little mama's boy. The big problem is that that people who vote in the primaries are primarily (heh!) those who are interested in politics and watch the debates. those running for federal office, including presidential candidates, must abide by strict FEC guidelines when it comes to their extra
campaign money. They can donate an unlimited amount to a charity or political party. They can also, within limits, make contributions directly to other candidates. A campaign committee can give up to $2000 per election to each candidate. If the committee is converted into a political action committee, the limit jumps to $5000 but to be established as a PAC, the committee would have to be in existence for six months, receive contributions from 50 donors, and make contributions to five recipients. What candidates can't do with leftover money is use it for personal expenses. Posted by: Vic We Have No Party at January 07, 2016 10:14 AM (t2KH5) 155

Posted by VtheK This is so true. All conservatives have to do is actually explain their position. The problem is getting people to listen, to escape their (received) biases, and to ALSO explain that while market economies work, what we have now wasn't caused by a free market, but the opposite. Then the commies turn off the gyroscopes and we enter our great depression. Hence the difficulty of actually explaining real conservative positions. BTW, don't blame Hank Greenberg for AIG's mess. He didn't allow the company to do Mortgage backed securities. Spitzer hounded him out of the CEO job for the company he built at which point the firm went hog-wild trying to catch-up in markets that Hank would not let them participate in. They of course, failed but not because of Greenberg. As he was found innocent, chalk up another disaster served cold by Spitzer.

Quoting from the Breitbart article by Alex Swoyer:
These venous sinuses drain blood out of the brain. The [injury] incidence is only about 3 per 1,000,000 adults. The transverse sinus is less commonly affected than the main sagittal venous sinus. The cause of transverse sinus clots is not well understood although trauma and dehydration have been described as risk factors. Mrs. Clinton suffered from both." Dehydration is an issue for anyone past 55 or so. If you add the risk factor of high alcohol consumption, dehydration becomes chronic and hard to treat requiring IV liquids. I have posted numerous times musing about Hillary's bizarre unattractive heavily padded clothing choices. It's entirely possible those garments are hiding an on board hydration system made up of a "camelbak bladder" liquid container feeding into a port in her chest. Do a quick search on "camelbak bladder" on Amazon to see what I mean. Why would she pay Susanna of Beverly Hills approximately 10,000 a pop for a pantsuit that makes her look like a motorized loveseat unless it's concealing something important. Given that she usually orders 5-10 of each design, that is serious money to be dropping on truly ugly clothing. Yes, I have used the motorized loveseat appellation before. I think Cruz is eligible since as you point out, his mother was natural-born American. HOWEVER. If we are going to get into the technical weeds on issues like this, the question I pose is only a matter of time -- especially in view of political correctness, open-borderness, et. al. Since we've had this issue around for at least 40 years, the actual citizenship of anchor babies can't be all that far off from the discussion. Not sure about that one. We treat them that way, but iirc it is not "settled law", as babies of illegals has never been tested directly. Kim parents were here legally ... I forget the other "precedence". A bill that grants them citizenship may be different than "natural born" ... but I don't know all that jargon. But isn't the idea to change the anchor baby=citizen thing, to change the law in congress and then test that in the courts? So they don't need to change the amendment, if that works? FenelonSpouse is a school bus driver, last I heard. FenelonSpoke has, I've noticed, been careful to not mention either Spoke or Spouse as m/f. Nor does FS correct those who presume, that I've seen. Reminds me of the study done on folks asked to describe babies. Babies dressed in blue diapers were described as strong, handsome. Babies dressed in pink diapers were described as sweet, pretty. So, yeah, it seems like a waste of time...until your son or daughter comes home and starts talking like that and you can't counter it.
It's easy to counter: "Son (or daughter as the case may be), whoever talks about that issue with you is trying to make you feel guilty for something that you had absolutely nothing to do with. Such people should be avoided at all costs, even if they pretend to be your friend. Don't ever allow anyone to do that to you. World history is comprised mostly of stories of man's inhumanity to others and singling out American slavery to the exclusion of all other acts of inhumanity is their way to control you and what you think through your emotions. Stay far away from such people. Slavery has been illegal here since the mid-19th century. The problem has been fixed. Live your life to the best of your ability and always treat others as you want to be treated. Seek the truth in everything and you can't go wrong." Somehow I don't think Jeb can bring himself to endorse Rubio. Jed was Rubio's padrone as Rubio rose in Florida politics. Then Rubio ran against Jeb in this year's effort, and Rubio became the disloyal son of a bitch that turned on his padrone. So I don't see Jeb getting behind Rubio.

those running for federal office, including presidential candidates, must abide by strict FEC guidelines when it comes to their extra campaign money. So Hookers and blow is tots OK, right? Posted by: An Observation at January 07, 2016 11:23 AM (MV+zd) 498
