Salon's Insufferable Interminable Trolling

On Christmas. I didn't post it on Christmas, because Christmas.

Meanwhile, this is a really good way to describe the counter-religion, from George Will.

Presidential campaigns inflate expectations that power wielded from government’s pinnacle will invigorate the nation. Thus campaigns demonstrate that creationists threaten the creative ferment that produces social improvement. Not religious creationists, who are mistaken but inconsequential. It is secular creationists whose social costs are steep.

"Secular theists" -- economist Don Boudreaux’s term -- produce governments gripped by the fatal conceit that they are wiser than society’s spontaneous experimental order. Such governments imposed order suffocates improvisation and innovation. Like religious creationists gazing upon biological complexity, secular theists assume that social complexity requires an intentional design imposed from on high by wise designers, a.k.a. them.

Man, that's spot on.

Quoted by Ed Driscoll at Instapundit.

I've been banging this drum for years: Religion is usually not opposed by a lack of religion, but instead by a counter-religion or anti-religion. However you term it, it's just another religion, however it might scream that it's "enlightened" and free of illogic, dogma, demons, and superstitions.

No, the anti-religion just has a different suite of illogic, dogma, demons, and superstitions.

They also have bent gods and demands for supplication of the Holy Failure.

14 You know what, I really don't give a shit what George Will or the others in the "conservative commentariate industrial complex" have to say about anything.

We don't need people who can turn a good phrase we need people in the trenches who can fight and beat back the progressives.

They don't care about what the fuck George Will has to say about anything all they care about is arrogating more and more power to themselves.

George will is also a charter member of the, "this isn't who we are" club and a HUGE amnesty shill.

So again, George Will is a clown.

Whoever it was who said AGW was a religion was spot on.

From what I've seen, all the false religions that people have set up seek to place Man in God's Rightful Place. That's what we in the engineering field describe as "being designed to fail." Code monkeys have a different descriptor: GIGO. If the premise is flawed or just plain wrong from the beginning, anything that follows is doomed to failure.

Let me guess. Will actually thinks that leftists CARE about the results of their destructive tendencies. Nothing they do indicates ANY thought given to what comes afterwards.

Destruction is the point. That's why leftists are so enamored of jihadis and the fucking mohammedans. They have a love of destruction in common. The difference is, mohammedans actually have a plan for what comes afterwards. Leftists just want a chance to point a pistol at the back of kneeling Kulak's neck, especially if it isn't metaphoric but literal.

Some men just want to watch the world burn.

34 Eve was the first deceived away from independence and freedom, by the devil saying she could break fundamental guidelines set by God (not eat of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil). Devil said you shall not surely die, you shall be as God ... knowing all.

Then Adam sold out intentionally, to be with her I guess. Somewhere in there is a message about liberty coming with responsibility. When "the devil" tells us he/they will give us power, and we'll get something for nothing (welfare, early retirement and a golden pension), we have sold out to "another god".

But the Democrat zealots have no problem making their PC religion the law of the land, so get off your high horse and stop with the hate speech. Accept the diversity hires screwing things up ... with a smile.

You have to keep in mind that when the founders wrote the bill of rights and had them ratified they only applied to the federal government. There was no such thing as freedom from religion. In fact, many States like MA, still had government churches that were supported by mandatory taxes. I think SC did too but I can't verify that because someone borrowed my expensive SC History book (college text used at Woford and USC) and they never returned it.

40 A book I liked, although that is something of a minority opinion, is Explaining Hitler by Rosenbaum. One reason it was not more popular is that regardless of what you believe, something in that book will deeply offend you. For example, one interviewee argued that the Holocaust was caused by Christianity in that the entire religion is based upon the tortuous death of a Jew.

42 What Vic said, although MA itself did disestablish its church in 1833.

A lot of the secular stuff really kicked in during the late 1800s. The Blaine Amendments, particularly. Some of it was reaction to the LDS in Utah territory. A lot of it was anti-Catholicism ("we won't take the Irish!").

Posted by: boulder terlit hobo at December 27, 2015 03:50 PM (vjWed)

43 good point Vic, and I think some even required church attendance early on. But it seems they each wanted their own version of Protestantism, and saw the problem of government (in this case "BigGov" was the thirteen colonies) mandating from above.

I haven't read all the details though. Certainly they were not in favor of the separation like the left insists on today.

59 The problem is that FDR stacked the courts with his four terms and cowed them with his attempt to change the number of justices. We have never recovered from that. The courts basically rewrote the Constitution in the 60s through the 80s.

This is why I want an Art V convention. Despite whatever some of the naysayers tootle about nothing could be worse than what we have now. We MUST rewrite the portion about the Supreme and Federal courts. Since they have made the courts a political body instead of a court I want one justice from each State appointed by the State. I want control of the courts OUT of DC since that in itself is a conflict of interest. And BTW, Marshall who wa the author of that made up despicable crap about them being the sole interpreter was not only a liar, but he was also a major criminal involved in illegal land deals and speculation in GA.

Yeah, that's really dark.

There is a reason why every miraculous sighting of Mary the Catholic Church certified is real is when she appears and says words to the effect of: "Do whatever He tells you."

I'm not reading the article but I suppose they argue that she should have aborted Jesus, since religious wars involving Christians have cost so many lives over the last 2000 years.

A few years ago, some really wacky atheists from P Z Myers' freethoughtblogs tried to launch anew movement, "Atheism+". Of course what differentiated atheism+ from plain vanilla atheism had nothing to do with believing no gods exist. Rather, it required you to sign on to a standard liberal SJW platform with regards to sexuality, environment, abortion, etc. Stuff that should be up for debate even if you don't believe in the supernatural.

And they wanted to shut down the discussion by proclaiming their Westminster Confession of Filth and appending a '+' to their denomination. Pretentious stupidity.

That could be said about a lot of professional athletes, past and present. Tony Galento, a notorious heavyweight contender in the Thirties, only had one certifiably clean fight in his career (a loss against Joe Louis). When asked about the thumbing and gouging and heeling, the low blows and rabbit punches, the then-retired Galento shrugged it off. Part of the game, he said. I wasn't no amateur.

True then, true now. Wherever there's lots of money involved, there'll always be backroom money men around to put in the fix.

As an aside, Galento had a lot of heart and a world-class left hook. Watch the Louis fight and you'll see what I mean.

Creepy to be sure, but she declined and went her way, no assault or anything.

But then she freaked out and demanded that men not be allowed to as out women at these conventions, kind of like safe spaces, complete with signs.

Dawk suggested she was overreacting, and published his Dear Muslima satire to show what real oppression was like.

This triggered a great atheist schism. An acrimonious carnage between atheist pajama people that provided muchamusement to schadenfreude cconnoisseurs across the globe.

165 Actually since I have never seen a picture of Ace I pretty much picture him as Sean Connery in the character of Zed

"The Dark Subtext of the Nativity Scene" is that God sent his only Son

to deliver the World from sin. I can see why thats "problematic" for the

Left. They would have to admit to Sin.

167 And yes, Salon honey, Jesus' birth is worth celebrating.

168 I went to an atheism shindig back before it went all "atheism plus". It wasn't so Leftist then. A few of the speakers were protoSJWs but the attendees were mainly not. Lots of heavy-metal fans, I noticed.

Politically-incorrect comments were made but the womenfolk took them in stride (as did the menfolk). It was universally accepted that if you were going to espouse an offensive opinion - and atheism is an offensive opinion - then you were advised to grow a thick skin yourself.

Mind you, I didn't see (or make) drunken hookup attempts in the elevator. That's just stupid. But honestly if it *did* happen, that's on the loser who crashed and burned, not on the whole event.

Over the 2000s I did see the shift toward "atheism plus" coming, so I bailed from the scene. It looked like another form of religion was on its way, and a less tolerant form than American ceremonial-deism could ever be.

169 While not very Christian the following sums up my feelings:

1. Fuck Salon
2. Fuck Liberals, Socialists, Progressives, and Commies. All are one-and-the-same.
3. Fuck muzzies

They want enforce their crap on folks by violence and intimidation. Let them eat dirt.

170 well thanks for not adding "fuck atheists" to that, Man from Athens. That's very Athenian of you :^)

But I will say that those atheism-plus SJW entryists can get plussed with a pineapple.

171 Gotta hand it to Joseph. He accepted his responsibility to raise and love Jesus and take care of both Him and Mary knowing, but I guess not truly understanding, God's role in all of this. He probably took a lot of crap for it from folks, at least until the Wise Men came by a couple years later. Bet he grinned from ear to ear. I know I would have.

Joseph: "What? You don't have royalty come visit your kid?"

I got no problem with atheists or anyone's belief system nor anyone evangelizing. I rather enjoy a good debate when I'm in the mood. I got a real problem with folks trying to shove it down our throats using violence or intimidation.

Go to Athens if you get the chance and visit the Acropolis. Stones been walked on for so long they are as smooth as glass. A word of warning: you may become a theist if you take a cab in Athens.

174 Read the Salon article...biggest piece of crap I have ever read...basically the dark side is that the story of the Virgin Mary and Jesus' birth can make girls feel less of a person if they are not virgins.

Thanks Salon for proving how stupid you are.

175 Yes, in order to criticize liberals, it was certainly necessary to throw "creationists" under the bus. Memo to George: every Christian who recites the Nicene Creed on Sunday mornings is a "creationist." That's a lot of people. Is he sure he's ready to alienate them?

George lives in a bubble. He has no idea who he's alienating.

Oh, they're fine with "sins", just not the Christian ones.

I mean, they've certainly copied from old Catholic ideas about sin.

"Original Sin"? "Check your privilege!"

"Indulgences"? Significant donations leading to anything from slap-on-the-wrist prosecutions to Presidential pardons...

179 Will, typically, screws up the basic assumption.

He's correct about the secular government but wrong in claiming the Religious creationists are incorrect.

Stupid Will.

Dissing Government AND the people who believe in God.

I knew there was something about him I didn't like.

Actually a lot of something I didn't like.

He says stuff about conservatism, sometimes, that seems so correct. Trouble is some of his underlying presumptions are totally wrong thus ruining any possibility of believing the other stuff.

LOL; Well at least the stupidity of Salon is worth a guffaw.
