If you read M80Bs article

in this article the author suggests a limited filibuster reform, to disallow filibusters only on appropriations bills. That would be a wise strategy to pursue I think.

It's got eggs, potatoes, granny smith apples, carrots, dill pickles, pickled mushrooms, peas, and onions in it and the dressing has sour cream, homemade mayo and lemon in it. It's putzy and time consuming to make but really delicious although it might sound like a weird combination of things. You have to let it sit overnight to let the flavors marry.

63 Okay then, here's some military content for the "smart military blog".

I was looking through after-action reports of air strikes against the Islamic State. Just to give you an idea of the kind of targets being struck by the US air effort, here is one real example.

It is proudly reported by the Pentagon that air action "destroyed two ISIL heavy machine guns,
an ISIL mortar tube, three ISIL fighting positions, an ISIL checkpoint,
two ISIL vehicles, and suppressed an ISIL light machine gun."

Combat power applied to achieve this result? Six air strikes.

That is an incredibly paltry yield. Especially given that the destroyed "vehicles" are not tanks or armored personnel carriers but merely easily replaced Toyota pickup trucks (most probably purchased by Uncle Sugar in the first place). And having "suppressed" a light machine gun rather than destroying the thing most probably means that the gunner simply picked up the LMG and walked off with it.

So the total take in terms of destroyed Islamic State weaponry was two HMGs and a mortar. From six air strikes. Smart power!

In front was a young black guy in a shirt reading in big type, I kid you not, "RETIRED SLAVE". Wonder when he got off the plantation? He doesn't look a day over 150.

In back, behind the blacks, was a white guy wearing a pulled-up hoodie and sunglasses while indoors, presumably to partly conceal his identity and his unbearable whiteness. He was carrying a BLM placard which contained the logo of "revcom.us", to wit, the Revolutionary Communist Party of the USA.

================================================

Well first you have to order these stupid little Swedish beans from Swedish store out there somewhere. Then you have to soak and rinse and soak and rinse for about a day. That's where I'm at now. Then you add brown sugar, some vinegar, some soft butter, a pinch of cinnamon, and you boil that altogether with your beans/ bean water. You have to simmer them for about 4 hours or they are tough as toenails. It's a two-day thing.

105 82 I don't quite understand why the "PAUL RYAN IS A COMMUNIST TRAITOR" position is assumed to be the default correct position, while the more reasonable position of "actually there's plenty of blame to go around" is considered unreasonable troublemaking.

That there is plenty of blame to go around is exactly what I have been arguing. I can point to specific mistakes made by Boehner and McConnell as well as by rank-and-file Republicans in both bodies which led to the entire process unraveling. But it is fixable. The primary question is whether McConnell will fix things on his end. I have never particularly liked him nor understood why he has the reputation he does, so I cannot say.

Well, he's not a communist traitor.

He's just another establishment hack.

One who cynically postured to conservatives and Tea Party elements to get his career established, with big talk about reining in out-of-control federal spending. And then once he was embedded like an engorged tick in the rump of Fedzilla, he showed his true colors and has presided over a huge spending spree.

136 Dad's Christmas Possum:

Ingredients:

Butter, salt, pepper, a newly sawed white oak plank about 16 inches long and 10 inches wide and 3/4 inches thick, a source of heat. Oh, and one possum, preferably freshly killed and not by getting runt over on the road.

Gut and skin the possum, leave head on or cut off as per personal taste.

Wash the possum in clean (not muddy) ditch water.

Smear possum with butter. Salt and pepper (a lot).

Place possum on the white oak plank.

Place plank and possum in a 375 degree oven and bake until golden brown. Takes about an hour. Leave the window open to vent cooking stink.

When done, remove from oven and rake the possum into the trash.

Serve the plank.
Bon Appetit!

137 It's a bumper year for Christmas cookies. The powdered sugar-rolled russian teaballs are out this year, but in their place are thin chocolate cookies with cayenne and black pepper in them. You don't really taste the pepper, it brings out the chocolate.

The chocolate dipped coconut macaroons, jam-center sugar cookies, gingerbread men, and my favorite, black walnut and date molasses cookies.

Combine with nog spritzed liberally with conservative bourbon and you have a very effective recipe for inducing holiday cheer.

1 lb. Swedish brown beans
7 c. water
1 c. firmly packed brown sugar
3 T. vinegar
1 tsp. salt
2 T. butter
2 tsp. cornstarch
1 T. cold water

Wash and drain beans. Add 7 cups water. Cover and let stand overnight. In the morning,
bring to simmering point. Cover tightly and simmer for 3 to 3 1/2 hours or until beans are
tender. Add sugar, vinegar, salt and butter. Mix
cornstarch with 1 tablespoon cold water and
stir into beans. Simmer uncovered for 15 minutes. Serve hot.
