Washington Post Permits Cartoonist to Go After Ted Cruz's Five and Seven Year Old Daughters, Claiming That If They're In an Ad, They're "Fair Game"
Now Pulled

Here they are depicted as monkeys.

Tell me, if Obama's daughters were, hypothetically, in his most famous campaign ad, the 30 minute ad he ran on most networks on the eve of the 2008 election, would they be "fair game" too?

Note, this is all entirely hypothetical, I'm sure.

But just check out Obama's Most Famous, Costliest Ad from minute 19 to 20.

Probably one of the most watched ads of all time.

You know what I see there?

"Fair game," according to the Washington Post. That's what I see there.

Pulled Down, Now With This Bullshit Explanation: "I Didn't Look At It."

Right, right, right.

I know you looked at it -- you seemed to have required her to write a defense of the cartoon in order to give it "context" and make it acceptable.

I am having a lot of trouble believing that a hot piece like this, so controversial the cartoonist had to pre-justify her own stupid doodle with a written explanation, gets past the editors without people taking a look-see.

I mean it's a frickin' cartoon. You know -- a scribbling for babies and illiterates. Who doesn't have the time to look at a doodle?

Anyway, it's gone, and here's some self-exculpating bullshit, which also seeks to exculpate the cartoonist.

Editor’s note from Fred Hiatt: It's generally been the policy of our editorial section to leave children out of it. I failed to look at this cartoon before it was published. I understand why Ann thought an exception to the policy was warranted in this case, but I do not agree.

He seems to be saying there's a good reason for Ann to think this was an "exception" -- because Cruz' kids were in a ad.

Okay, well Obama's kids were also in an ad -- would the liberal Fred Hiatt agree, or at least "understand," why people might think that also serves as a "warranted" "exception" to justify an attack on his kids?

Note my point is not to go after Obama's kids. I never go after his kids. I have no reason to do so.

But this liberal game of piously claim Democrats' children are completely off-limits, while concocting "warranted exceptions" for Republicans' kids (every Republicans' kids, pretty much -- ask the Bush Twins and Palin Kids), is infuriating beyond my capacity to express.

It's funny because I was just thinking that Cruz might be the one to understand how much the enemy the MFM is, and that they need to be *openly* treated as the opposition, *in detail* with quotes and references and donation figures.

That won't get through to everyone, but it will get through to some. There are moderately intelligent people who are just ignorant.

Hopefully Cruz demands these people explain themselves in public, in detail, and we can either see them cower or expose their hypocrisy.

I think that is all these people know to do-they never bothered to learn the reason for an apology-to understand that you, personally, caused someone else, personally, pain. That you regret having caused them pain, and you are going to do your darnedest NOT to cause them pain again.

These are the fake apologies that moms require their toddlers to say when they have caused grievance, and need to "learn a lesson." But they never bother to teach them what the lesson is.

And now this with Cruz's daughter.
Meanwhile if you bring up the fact that Obama's girls go to Sidwell & Friends with gourmet food while MO pushes b.s. "healthy lunches" on our kids or that his girls have armed guards to protect them, but our kids are expected to be sitting ducks in "gun free zones," well you're a *monster* because family is OFF LIMITS.

But just as infuriating to me is how the GOP just effing TAKES this double standard without pushing back whatsoever.

Hey, those of you who are better Christians than I am, which isn't a stretch: what's the Bible say about people who bear false witness for purposes of personal advancement, and invoke God's name in the process of doing so?

Because, per recent admissions against interest by David Axelrod, that's precisely what Obama did on the gay marriage issue in 2008.

Obama pretended to be against it for tactical political purposes, and cited his alleged Christian religious faith as grounds for that stance. It was all a sham, according to Axelgrease.

Because that's the Main Rule in which we now live: a binary rule system, if you will. A simple dichotomy.

It's either This Is Who We Are or...

The Left decides which. We then obey and act accordingly. Wapo decided This Is Who Cruz Is, but the same rule does not apply to anyone on the Left -- for they, the rule is This Is Not Who We Are.

283 I clicked on the link. but I didn't see the cartoon, which actually I don't mind. I am bewildered by the mindset of someone who would need to draw children as monkeys. I do, however, see a number of comments where the artist is getting pounded. which I am glad of.

It's so strange to me in part because FenelonSpouse is a school bus driver. and picks up kids of that age. They're all ethnic groups and he has no idea about their politics nor does he care. They've been coming on with bags or chocolates or lots of homemade cookies or other presents to give to the bus driver Some parents took a lot of time. There were little cookies shaped like Santa's hat or boots and the cards have their little scrawls-Thanks from Ojai. The kids are adorable.

This kind of stuff is just evil-demonizing little kids, no matter what letter comes after their parents' name.. If someone came4 after my kid in that way when he was seven I'd want to shove their teeth down their throat. i wouldn't but I;ld feel that way!

285 Fox has never been conservative. They got that label from the Liberal Media who they were and are beating the pants off in the ratings.

They said it so long and so loud and Fox is different from the rest of the media that a lot of people bought it.

And Fox did things now and then to reinforce this view.

We owe Donal Trump a thank you for his revealing Fox's true colors. They're still better than the mfm but they're not conservatives.

Oh and neither is Megan Kelly or many others that try that one on for size.

Sorry to hear that. Hope you feel better soon. The discount stores all seem to have dollar-store CDs of Bad Christmas Music From The 70s, 80s, and 90s.

One had, once, a song that was literally about kids killing Santa and redistributing the toys to the poor. It was sung by children as well. I pointed it out to staff and they were shocked when they actually listened to the lyrics.

Never found out who did it and I can't seem to find an internet presence, but I didn't memorize the lyrics or anything.

Not new, but a Christmas classic.

Funny story about that though. When my husband was in high school he was doing the music for a church production and the CD started skipping when that song played. So it was...

"Mary did you know...Mary did you know...Mary did you know..." Over and over again. He tried to fix it, but the guy who was up doing the scene was apparently sending him death glares.

So now, anytime we hear the song, we can't help but giggle.

671 Blano, good point.

Cicero, I'm kinda stuck because at this point I'm pretty much taking a lot of care of my 76-year-old Mom, and she doesn't want to go anywhere.

I have one sister (I've told you about her, she has issues) and bro-in-law, with kids, whose jobs are dependent on staying in SoCal. And my other sister and bro-in-law, the 'sane' ones, have good jobs with a local school district.

However... the 'sane' ones have admitted to me, if they could save the money, they wouldn't mind going to either Montana or Wyoming. And the other sister... she works for Verizon which in SoCal is about to sell off a lot of its assets to Frontier Communications, and she has absolutely *no* idea whether her job will stay in California or not.

So who knows, a move may come sooner than I think.

It's ridiculous and I'm tired of them too, but, people do that shit. I used to work at a couple of car dealers. They'd bring the car to the showroom, decorate it, and, (normally) the husband would bring in the wife and surprise her a day or two before.

Fuck the media. We are sick and tired of all this shit.

745 My uncle-in-law lived in Hamilton, MT. That's in the MT banana belt.

He was pissed when he turned 87 and they told him he had to be accompanied by another hunter when he mounted up his horse and went after Elk.

757 The WaPo offices likely have tight security as compared to what Charlie Hebdo had.

And this cartoonist probably has her own Secret Service detail by now.

Total lockdown.

They've awakened the enemy. They're scared. Happy scared. They trolled for this.

They want proof.

basically, some weirdo shoved acid up his ass

Posted by: chemjeff at December 22, 2015 11:14 PM (uZNvH)

759 Complaining to the hacks at WaPo is a necessary first step (demanding that everyone involved be fired), but the real way to get action is to go after the advertisers.

Looking at the Post's website I see digital ads for Wells Fargo, Michael's stores, Fidelity Investments, the city of Charlotte, NC, Jimmy Dean breakfast foods, to name a few.

Sure, digital ads are placed by a network and these companies probably didn't specifically request for their ads to show up on the Post's homepage, but that's irrelevant.

People should go after any company that advertises with the post - intentionally or not. Make this about those companies and their support for racism via the Post. Threaten to start a boycott until they denounce the Post and its racism. Share your outrage on social media and encourage other to do so.

Keep stirring this pot. Keep the outrage against these advertisers going for as many days and weeks as possible.

I work in corporate marketing and I know that one day of a few angry social media posts won't do any good. Several days - or even a week - of angry customers demanding that the company disavow their relationship with the post (or face the wrath of the consumer) will make the CEOs of these companies march into the marketing department and demand that all advertising with the Post end immediately. I've seen it happen for less.

763 Ace,

I read this last night and couldn't bring myself to respond then. Like you, this moves me to anger that is beyond fury. I struggle with it, in fact - I should not feel so strongly about a cartoon... and yet I do.

It is proven that one of the key ways propagandists operate is to de-humanize the foe. To get you to believe that they are less-than-human in some way or other, and thus to deny them the sympathy and empathy that is required for peace.

Just remember: in de-humanizing the Cruz kids, the WaPo and all affiliated with it have shown me that it is they - not the Cruz kids - who are not worthy of human sympathy or empathy.

They have begged me to view them as an enemy. I don't know why, but they have.

What the hell is wrong with these people? Have they no decency whatsoever?

764 Bitch just doubled down with a tweet about how organ grinders once entertained on the streets of washington dc, as if that justifies her disgusting comparison. 765 The WaPost has long had a$$holes as cartoonists. I haven't forgotten Herblock, now doing cartoons for Satan.

Posted by: WannabeAnglican at December 23, 2015 08:42 AM (vFmT2)

766 "I failed to look at this cartoon before it was published."

I used to work at The Charlotte Observer when Doug Marlette was editorial cartoonist, and the standard rule there was Doug had to show the cartoon to the executive editor in sketch form before he could proceed.

They had good reason for this policy. Doug was a flaming Christian liberal in a flaming Christian conservative state. He would go after Jim Bakker's PTL Club, the death penalty, homophobic Anita Bryant, the dunderheads on the Charlotte School Board, etc. Most of the time, they let him proceed; they simply wanted to know if they could expect rivers of fire to come shooting out of the phones the next day.

What I'm saying is, this editor was either incompetent or incompetent.

767 Imagine, using your kids as mere props to further your political ambitíons! No one would ever do that, nor have they ever done so, before that wicked, awful man, Ted Cruz came along. Certainly not the Mayor of New York, Bill de Blasio, he would never do such a thing. Cruz changed the game by trotting out his little princesses/monkies and so he deserves what he gets, ha ha!
