Morning, Glories, except it's afternoon now I guess back east.

I plowed through the morning thread, got to the end and saw the call for Doom.

I read the article linked at the top of the Doom thread, and had some comments to make, but by that time BenK had dumped so I skipped Monty's Doom text and all the comments.

I read some BenK links and then plowed through the comments there and by that time this Art was up.

Which is where I wanted to be anyway.

I left a comment on the ONT, thoughts about the Nutcracker's broad political incorrectness. Nobody noticed or cared, because Star Wars.

Stepping back for a minute from individual issues and the ups and downs of the campaigns he thinks the top candidates (Cruz, Rubio and Trump) have enough in common that, regardless of who gets the nod, you can say they will all force the GOPe to become less corrupt and more conservative.

My Swedish is a little rusty/lot/nonexistent ;^) What does it mean?

When do they serve the Swedish pancakes with the lingonberries? :^) When I was a kid an area a couple of miles up the road from me was filled with people from various countries in Scandinavia. One of the things they sold was batter in a box for Swedish pancake and they also sold ligonberries. I loved that-particularly the thinner pancakes. You can still get the thinner, crepe type pancakes at I-Hop, but it's not as good as I remember my mother making.

Viggo Johansen - "Glade jul" 1891

The painting was started in Christmas 1890 but it was April 1891 before Johansen was finished.

The intervening months required that the studio's windows be covered to block out spring sunlight. The candles had to be repeatedly relit and the models reposed. As time went by, the fir tree died and fresh branches were attached. On top of the long-term efforts to maintain the Christmas spirit in the room, the children pictured had measles in turn.

My brother-in-law would always get the tree for my mother-in-law's house - famously always just a little too tall for the room. The green skidmarks on the ceiling were like a permanent Christmas decoration.

Milady retorts, we did re-paint the ceiling many times after Christmas.

In the painting, it's Christmas at home in Amaliegade Copenhagen with the family Johansen, who dance around the Christmas tree in the living room.

The artist's wife Martha is seen at the front between the daughters Ellen, small Nann and Helene Christensen from Skagen. Whose hand is held by eldest son Fritz remains a secret, but though Johansen was busy in front of the easel it was probably Viggo himself who was behind the tree. In the corner is Martha's aunt.

The fact of the matter is that American Men are now at a competitive disadvantage for jobs in much of America.

Entire Industries have gone bilingual. If you don't speak Spanish in Construction... or certain Indian or Pakistani Languages in IT... you can and will be passed over for many jobs (not all, but many)...

There is a reason statistics show that almost all of the job 'created' in the Obama economy went to immigrants.

So, let's review the bidding. He accuses Trump of playing to working-class men. Obama would never play to one demographic, nosir.

Then he plays the race card; "you can't criticize me, I'm black(ish), you know."

Last, he implies that blue-collar workers used to get a handout back when, kinda like the EBT card so ubiquitous among Obama's favored demographic.

Most speak the right words... and REALLY believe in those words... but never think about what they really mean... ie how it all fits together.

Its like my Mom being a solid Methodist, and being totally anti gun and anti violence... when if you take the WHOLE new Testament, Jesus was not a wimp.

But they pick and chose what platitudes they want... until it becomes an unworkable philosophy....

This, is the Left... they believe in platitudes.. but never contemplate how they fit into a workable philosophy.

Miss Agum said that Holloway had been staying in Texas until recently but upon her return to the West coast she noticed a change in her character.

213 I wasn't around earlier for the DOOM post so I'll write about it here.

Monty is right when he says that artists (and authors, other creative types) dislike the market system for their goods. But he's a bit off about why. There are some who are elitist and frustrated that their genius is unrecognized, but that's not the main concern.

The problem for creative people is that we're good at being creative, and rarely any good at marketing or sales. So we make the goods then... we have to sell them, which not only are we no good at, but it takes away time and energy from our real job of creating, not to mention that most of us are introverted and feel wrong, embarrassed, and uncomfortable at sales and self promotion.

So its not a rejection of an economic system per se, its just an impediment to our work. Every minute I spend promoting my books is a minute I'm not writing. And I hate doing it. And I'm not any good at it, and it feels just... wrong.

I did...

Very simply.... I don't believe that the Founding Fathers intended someone with DUAL CITZENSHIP to ever be Commander in Chief...

Because at the time, Citizenship could and did lead to charges of Treason, and the Death Penalty.

Heck, the War of 1812 was partly fought because the SONS of British Citizen Fathers, were being impressed into the British Navy... because England considered them English Citizens... and thus subject to being impressed.

Thus, the Natural Born clause... to ensure the Commander in Chief would never have any possible issue on that subject.

Now, I will admit, I hold a very minority view on this subject... and one our Legal Establishment won't even consider...

but this is the same legal establishment that somehow makes growing Feed, to give to your OWN chickens, somehow INTERSTATE (ie between the States) Commerce...

It's unclear if Cruz was ever granted citizenship by Canada. He certainly made no positive steps (passport, national health card, etc) to ever claim it.

Obama OTOH, would be a British subject by birth, no? And what's his legal status in Indonesia?

Either way -- it doesn't matter at this point. Very since Van Buren, we've gone with the "natural-born means the opposite of naturalized" definition. Even though I think the older definition that you cite is more right than wrong.

268 which was also a reason she took the Blues Brothers role, in an effort to get away from SW.

I do not understand actors and their need to avoid being cast in a certain role type. Jim Carrey was brilliant playing goofy lunatic funny guys then suddenly he had to do serious parts. The list of comic actors who've done this is endless: Robin Williams, Steve Martin, etc, etc, etc. Its ridiculous.

You're good at this, do your job. Groucho never felt like he had to break out of the Marx Brothers and establish himself as Julius Marx, serious actor. Humphrey Bogart never felt ruined or trapped as an actor because everyone cast him as a tough guy.

You got a great part and people love it? Great, work it. Make your career. Stop thinking you have to do other stuff or you're "typecast" and can't get real work. ALL work is real. That's why guys like Michael Caine and Nicholas Cage work constantly. They do not care about the role, they care about the job. They aren't trying to make a carefully sculpted career, they're just trying to work.

If natural born means "born to two US citizen parents on US soil" then Van Buren, McCain, Obama, and Cruz (and probably others who have been or have run for president) are/were ineligible.

And again, it's unclear if Canada ever considered Cruz a citizen, but he never made any steps to claim citizenship in Canada as far as I know.

289 The Founding Fathers were simply trying to make sure that anyone who was president was never citizen of another nation before becoming a US citizen. You can tell they did so because the clause that the "natural born" part is found in gives an exemption to people before a certain year - the US didn't exist before a certain point, so necessarily people couldn't have been born US citizens.

I know there are more than a few people who argue and insist until they die that it means two parents, only in the US, but that's not the meaning and intent of the founders and it does not apply to the law.

But yes, Obama was born a dual Brit US Citizen, if the guy on his birth cert was his real father (the guy he looks NOTHING like)....

And he was adopted by Soetoro in Indonesia... actual name change... which would bring on Indonesian citizenship... and by Standard practice would have changed his birth cert in Hawaii (which is why I think the original is gone, and as Law permits, he had his lawyer change it back as an adult after both parents were dead)...

Whole thing will be an interesting book for some historian someday.... but does not matter to the political establishment of today...

Certainly.

Here's it is with recommendations for the liquors (which you don't have to take all that seriously:

Rittenhouse rye is a good choice
Jamaican rum you need for the awesome flava so try Hamilton Pot Still Black Rum or get Smith & Cross (it's much easier to find)
The sherry should be a sweeter one.

Ugh. Pixyware sux. I can't simply cut and paste, so:

1 qt cream
1 qt milk
12 tbs sugar
12 eggs
1 pint brandy
1/2 pint rye whisky
1/2 pint Jamaican rum
1/4 pint sherry

These are George Washington's directions:

Low unemployment. Low interest rates. High stock market.

The numbers may be fudged but they are the numbers.

Posted by: Bertram Cabot Jr. at December 21, 2015 01:10 PM (FkBIv)

It LOW EMPLOYMENT.... we have less people as a percentage working than we have in 40 years..

Low Interest rates... which means no return on SAVING money... which is a BAD thing... as Inflation is greater than Interest...

And a High Stock Market... which is inflated artificially because there is no where else to park money where you can make more than inflation...

ergo, the numbers you use to tout a 'good' economy, is anything but...

Its like saying the Winner of the Football game with the Team who gets the most yards... not the one who scores the most points.... ie.. meaningless numbers...

Former Utah governor Jon Huntsman, who unsuccessfully sought the GOP presidential nomination in 2012, says he's getting "a lot" of encouragement to launch another White House bid from Republicans concerned about the prospect of Donald Trump as the 2016 GOP nominee.

This time, to run as an independent.

Yeah. Lots of Bernie stickers around here. Some on very nice cars (some idiot put a bernie sticker on the trunk of his brand new BMW. I mean cmon dude, you're going to ruin the paint. Bumper stickers go on windows.)

Some on less nice cars.

But yeah, I do get a kick out of it.

422 Business opportunity. Create tree and log fire video for broadcasters with random events. Cat playing with ornament, spark from fire melting into rug, train on track trundling through, kid peeking around corner, parent dropping by late present, cat peeking out of tree.
The trick is to make the events happen juuuust often enough to keep people watching. Because the train would have ads on the boxcars. The presents would be badly wrapped and let you see the product name. Dad would drop the bottle walking through and we would see what he was drinking.
Get busy, starving YouTube artiste!

430 As this unfolded, the only thing I recall as this happened is the insane sound of her car accelerating and the voice from the car was screaming Allah Akbar! I've heard the sound enough times on the news and posts on here that I was waiting for a bomb to blow up or guns to start firing. My friends ducked into the Hard Rock Casino which is right by the Paris and waited to see if something else was going to happen. After 30 minutes we went back to the street with total chaos, cops and ambulances shutting everything down and a systematic closure of casinos closely. We were told to leave if able, and not to linger but more and more people gathered to see what was going on.

I thought this shit wouldn't hit Vegas but I am first hand proof that's it's here, in Sin City with evil Islam at its roots! This bitch was crazy and was screaming with both windows down! I didn't notice a kid in the car but after reading the news that a toddler was in there it makes me sick!

452 Uhh... again, if natural born means the opposite of naturalized (as everyone claimed when Obamas birth situation was brought up) then Cruz is just as eligible as Obama.

If natural born means "born to two US citizen parents on US soil" then Van Buren, McCain, Obama, and Cruz (and probably others who have been or have run for president) are/were ineligible.

#############

Van Buren was born in the US to parents who were US citizens (they were in the American colony before it became an Independent nation) so not sure how he could be considered ineligible.

He was the first President not born in the US while it was still a British colony.

Without question, the Founders would have considered Cruz ineligible.

What that means today in a post-Constitutional world is up for debate, but he'll lose votes for it. How many people like the idea of a Canadian-born President?

His father was born a subject of the netherlands, in a formerly dutch colony in what was formerly known as new netherlands. His mother, IIRC, was actually born in the netherlands.

It was a thing at the time... he was claimed by some to be ineligible.

It was decided that Van Buren was a US citizen regardless.

492 Cops further say she was calm and stoic during her interview. Has told them her motive but they won't share with us because, the narrative, only that she doesn't appear to regret what she did.

Goddamnit! I just told the rubes Americans that everything was fine, there were no threats, and some goddamned free-lancer has to go and fuck it up! Didn't she get the memo? Ixnay on the erroristay for a while. Got it?

493 Next time I hear some lefty yapping about how white Europeans destroyed the wonderful Native American civilization I'm going to tell them America was just undergoing demographic changes and the Indians should have welcomed it and embraced diversity.

Heh. Too bad La Raza did not exist when the Spanish invaded! Would have had better PR in today's history books.

We don't want to create any backlash! Put down those bows.

You didn't distill that firewater. Remember the crusades against the Lakotas. Get off you Elizabeth Warren.

495 True story: Once when I was down on my luck and living in a 1970 El Camino I used my last $75 dollars petitioning to have my name changed to Randy Roman Morton.

When things still didn't turn around for me I naturally thought "mass murder." Turns out I was arrested when my Camino ran out of gas fifteen feet from the curb and I just kind of rolled into the back of a cop car with a UNLV sticker. After that I traded sex for Marlboros in the big house until I could get into law school.

496 "...no longer getting the same bargain that they got when they were going to a factory and able to support their families on a single paycheck," Mr. Obama said in the interview with National Public Radio."

I noticed the word "bargain" also. Presumably he meant "bargain" in the sense that the rules had been changed on them, that the deal they thought they had made in good faith was no longer operative.

But being a statement from Obama, my first reaction was that he felt that they we are all supposed to be good 'workers' in the service of the State upon the basis of 'from each according to his ability, to each according to their need'; and that these men somehow were getting more than 'their fair share' and weren't spreading the wealth around enough.

Who cares if "somebody claimed" this, it's a stupid case to be made which is why it never went anywhere.

Van Buren had Two parents that were American citizens and he was also born in America , he's a natural born citizen, case closed.

The Constitution doesn't say their parents have to be born on American soil. It would have actually been impossible for his parents to have been born in the United States since it didn't exist yet, which is why the Constitution put that provision in there for people that were there before America became an independent nation.

Cruz is a much different story. Not born in the US and a dual citizen.

Well, see, if you're a Muzzlim you have The Perfect Example right there in Mohammed. *HE* heard voices, y'know (and told his wife he was afraid he was going crazy or being tempted by demons.)

So Lakeisha-Paris Paradise hears voices and knows in her heart that the "right thing to do" is Slay Infidels. Yeah, she's crazy as a bedbug. But crazy/ violent/ low-impulse-control people are RIGHT AT HOME in Islam. Like bees to flowers ... they are drawn to the deeply-disordered "religion" invented by a deeply-disordered "prophet" who used his "divine revelations" to get others to provide him with women and treasure and vengeance against those he perceived as enemies.

Sweet gig, if you're crazy enough...

499 I suspect this painting is called "Silent Night" because this is the family's first Christmas without their father. His memory is in the corner of their minds like the bust in the corner of the picture, but they have Christmas joy all the same.

501 No joke, candles on Christmas trees were a major source of house fires, which is why electric tree lights became instantly popular.

Between the two kids at our front, with their backs to us, you can see one present: an unwrapped mini-tower. Cheap parents should have sprung for a monitor, too.
