16 strange Christmas traditions from around the world

Greenland: Eat "Kiviak" - fermented birds

To make Kiviak you put up to 500 whole auks (local birds) including feathers, beaks and all in a seal skin, which is then sewn up and sealed with grease. You put a large rock on top to keep the air content low and then you let the whole package sit for months. When you open it up the auks are fermented and smell like Stilton cheese and are quite tasty apparently.

I'm gonna have to disagree to a certain degree. "Assault Rifle" is a legit term (although almost always misused by dishonest gungrabbing suckers of cock). True Assault Rifles are exceedingly rare in the wild, outside of government armories and drug lord/terrorist arms caches.

"Assault Weapon" however, is a totally made up, false, bogus term that translates to "scary gun looks scary".

Ukraine: Christmas trees dressed in spider webs

In Ukraine Christmas trees are often decorated with (fake) spider webs to usher in good luck during the coming year.

The legend goes that a poverty stricken family went to bed on Christmas Eve despondent because they wouldn't be able to decorate their tree. The spiders, roaming the home's walls and floors, heard the cries of the family, and took it upon themselves to decorate the tree with their webs. On Christmas day, the strands turned to gold and silver, changing the family's fortune forever.

Spain, Catolonia: Caga Tio - 'Christmas Crapper'

The tio is a tree trunk with a hole inside, little legs and a face painted on it. Each night, the children give the tió a little bit to "eat" and cover him with a little blanket so that he won't be cold at night.

On Christmas day they put the tió partly into the fireplace and order it to poop. To make him poop, the children beat him with sticks, while singing various songs of Tio de Nadal. Out comes candies and nuts for everyone to share.

85 What I don't get about the lactivists is how so many of them are breast feeding kids who are far too old for it. If the kid's running around, he/she should be on solid food, not boobies. It's my opinion that by this point the breast feeding is no longer about any nutritional value for the kid, it's about a mother who can't let go.

90 The Assault Rifle?

It started out as a MP 43. Auf Deutsch im 1943. herr schikelgruber did not like the "Machine Pistol" because he considered them defensive weapons.

The Troops in the field that had received the first batches of MP 43 wanted to keep these new weapons. They were very effective.

Thus the acronym makers of the German high command renamed the MP 43 to the StuG 44. Sturmgewehr 44. In English literally "Storm Rifle"
But in this usage "Assault Rifle" was more proper.

My History lesson for the month.

I'm outahere.

101 Listen people, you can argue all day long about what is and is not an "assault rifle."

The fact that you are using the term, and trying to argue for what is and is not included under the definition, means you are fighting on the left's turf.

They've already won, if they have you arguing.

Because now I have to fight them on whether or not my AR15 is an assult rifle. Or whether my 17 round 9mm hand artillery piece with the hollow bullets is an assault rifle.

If you use the term, it means you are being used by them.

Feel free to do so, but let's stop talking about German submachine guns, ok?

The StuG 44 had was a weapon capable of firing fully automatic and had a detachable magazine.

IMHO a weapon that can not fire fully automatic is not a "assault weapon", merely a rifle even if the magazine is detachable.

Yes, the "LR" is for "Long Rifle," to distinguish it from other .22 caliber ammunition or gun chambering, such as .22 Magnum or .22 Short.

As long as the guns you have are chambered for .22LR and the 5k rounds of ammo you have are also .22LR, you'll be ok.

22 Long Rifle in this context refers to the ammunition. The vast majority of 22 rimfire firearms are chambered for 22LR.

Here's the confusing part though: there is also ammunition called 22 Long and 22 Short. Both are frankly somewhat obsolete, but still manufactured in small numbers. They are NOT the same thing as 22 Long Rifle, but they can sometimes be fired from a 22 Long Rifle firearm. Like I said, this is the confusing part.

And why call her Smurfette (Smurf+ette)? It implies that the female
is derivative of the male (the old Adam+rib fairytale). Call her a
Smyrf. And why is she evil with dark hair and good with blond hair and
blue skin? Why this Aryan racism? Especially since the smurf was created
by Frenchmen who were conquered by Aryan Nazis?

Can we correct this, please?

177 22 Long Rifle in this context refers to the ammunition. Like I said, this is the confusing part

Thanks. Although I may or may not still be confused, I gathered whatever I have in the closet will probably work for whatever else I have in the closet. (if they hadn't gone overboard while kayaking, etc.etc.)

229 Cruz gains in Iowa thanks to the evangelical element, but Trump may be able to bring in new folks to the caucus.

Trump may have appeal to people from both parties that are fed up with the establishment. Many Democrats are disgusted with Hillary, and they are not all Sanders socialists. For all the talk of how bad Trump would be in the general, there seems to be equal talk of how he is too moderate. He is the businessman like Romney, but won't get timid in debates, and doesn't have Romney-care baggage.

Trump already said there would be exceptions to the temporary Muslim ban, which mostly referred to the masses of refugees. But with the Muslim Brotherhood and CAIR apparently having veto power in the WH, the power to stop investigation that would have maybe stopped this last attack ... people want to hear that Muslims are not some special entitlement protected class, or protected invaders. All those that jumped to attack Trump on that look rather foolish, as they bowed to Islam, as obedient submissives must.

Anyway ... in the US versus them (DC cartel) view, Trump keeps standing for US. The appeasers reveal their true loyalties lie elsewhere. Cruz can maybe step in behind the Trump bulldozer, but he has some big charisma shoes to fill.

Of course. I have a friend who freaks out frequently on the Catholic Church via Facebook. She always rants about the Pope and how we are all misguided. Her big bugaboo is the Church has material wealth that should be given away to feed the poor. She also goes on and on about what haters we all are because the Church won't condone gay marriage. Then, the very next day, she rants about how "racist" everyone is who doesn't want to allow more Muslim immigrants into the country. She even berated a mutual friend, who happens to be a Green Beret, about how he should talk to some muslims before he says they shouldn't be allowed here. Umm, what does she think he has been doing for the last 15 years? She's never left the town we grew up in, and yet, she's the expert on Islam. She's also a lesbian. I can't reconcile her hatred of Catholicism and her championing of Islam.

I could barely get anything by pumping and it was constant, constant stress, especially when he started developing NEC.

My milk finally tried up all together at about the time we left the NICU. Then some bitch at whataburger yelled at me for feeding him a bottle. Me then stammered something about not being able to breastfeed. "You should have tried harder!" she said.

316 Ammo prices fluctuate, so it's never bad to have a lot of choices.

Right now, .45 acp practice ammo is very close to .40 S et W (within a couple of cents per). And 9mm is creeping up in price since the FBI white paper saying it's the best thing since ever.

XM193's always been relatively cheap though. It'd take a lot of shooting to make up the price difference on ammo (if your only reason to not shoot 5.56 was cost).

-----------------------------------------------------------
Yeah, because Islam is totally not about hatemongering, and is totally not straight out of the Middle Ages. So it has a place in American society. TOTES.

I listened to a few Cain/Cupp podcasts a few years ago, realized they were both a pair of RINOtards and gave up on them. They ain't conservative. Just like all the rest.

they shouldn't be allowed here. Umm, what does she think he has been

and yet, she's the expert on Islam. She's also a lesbian. I can't
reconcile her hatred of Catholicism and her championing of Islam.

347 Not to make light of a serious condition, but I think maybe someone else, or someones elses, must be having my panic attacks.

Take the serious situation of the nation and world, the economy, unemployment, jihadi threats, creeping tyranny, on and on. Multiply that and apply it on a personal scale and you have my current situation. Sort-of.

And yet I get up each day and go to bed each night thanking God for the blessings, and presuming that if I keep taking care of what I can do, and keep praying about that which I can't seem to do, most of the mountains of difficulty will somehow be removed, even if my faith isn't a fraction of a mustard seed. I've more than once walked the shadowed valley of death and survived. I've sinned to my great regret but feel forgiven. I haven't been brought along this far by mercy just to be forgotten now, I must presume.

Seems t'me I should be more emotional about it all - occasionally, as I contemplate the major things that are wrong and threatening, I can yield to temporary desperation, but I get over it. And I'm not even smoking the wacky weed. Anymore.

Whoever is having my panic, sorry 'bout that.
