Thank God it's Fri ... Crap! Took the words right out of my mouth. I have really, really got to find a new job. BTW, I missed Kirk Douglas' birthday yesterday; Spartacus is 99 years old. He's made a lot of good movies over the years, but my favorite is 1953s The Bad and the Beautiful starring Douglas as a ruthless movie producer and the luscious Lana Turner as the alcoholic daughter of a silent star whom he turns into a star. It's entertaining on its own, but for those in the know, it does have a subtle allusion to Turner's habit of pulling any hunky co-star or set hand into her dressing room for a bit of horizontal fun. http://goo.gl/zaccl2 Posted by: Mary Poppins' Practically Perfect Piercing at December 10, 2015 06:49 AM (X6fMO) 7

But my question is since this is a budget related bill why are Republicans allowing the Democrats in the Senate to block the bill? The can invoke cloture as the Democrats did. A federal judge knocked Texas for offering "largely speculative hearsay" about extremists possibly infiltrating Syrian refugees seeking to resettle in the state, rejecting another attempt by Republican leaders to keep out families fleeing the war-torn country.
U.S. District Judge David Godbey's Wednesday ruling cleared the way for the last of 21 Syrian refugees, many of whom are children under the age of 15, to resettle in Houston on Thursday. This drooling idiot is a Bush appointee and we are looking at a great deal more than "speculative hearsay" you asshole. I figured as it became apparent that Trump might win that they would act legislatively to take away his or anyone else's ability to act and make it possible for these things to go to court which we all know how the prog stacked courts are going to rule. Reminder - This would go nowhere if not for the ever helpfull GOPe: Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) is seeking to insert language in an end-of-year spending bill that would allow Caesars Entertainment Corp. avoid bankruptcy and restructure the debt of a subsidiary out of court despite opposition from holdout bond holders. If Caesars doesnt get the help and folds, it could cost Reids state thousands of union jobs. Decisions by two courts involving Ceasars make it more difficult for corporations to cut their debts without going into bankruptcy if their debt-cutting plans are opposed by minority shareholders. Reids language is meant to override those decisions to allow Caesars to cut its debt without going through bankruptcy, despite opposition from some stockholders. Critics argue Reids language would roll back a Depression-era law known as the Trust Indenture Act, which was intended to protect minority bondholders from getting cheated. ObamaCare will reduce work hours equivalent to 2 million jobs in the next decade amid a host of incentives not to work or to work less, a new Congressional Budget Office (CBO) report says the latest blow to President Obamas signature health insurance plan.
The report estimates the Affordable Care Act, or ACA, will make the labor supply shrink by 0.86 percent in 2025. This amounts to a shrinkage equivalent to approximately 2 million full-time workers. Cause & Effect Posted by: Nevergiveup at December 10, 2015 07:30 AM (gf8BH) 93

In news CAC used to cover before he developed his crippling addiction to Wilbur Buds: The verdict is in -- mostly. The bright spots on the dwarf planet Ceres are probably made of salt, NASAs Dawn spacecraft has found. Mixed with the salt are bits of rock and frozen water, When sunlight hits the blend, the ice sublimates into a misty haze above two of Ceres' craters, researchers report in Nature. Dawn has also found ammonia-rich clays on Ceres. Ammonia is more common in the frigid outer Solar System than in the asteroid belt where Ceres reigns. The discovery suggests that Ceres may have collected bits of outer Solar System material. or even that it was born near Neptune before migrating inward. www.nature.com/news/mysterious-bright-spots-on-ceres-are-probably-salt-1.18980 Posted by: Laurie David's Cervix at December 10, 2015 07:37 AM (kdS6q) 105

The greatly honored Freddie Gray trial continues. Defense continues for Porter today. Prosecution has rested.
Posted by: Colin at December 10, 2015 07:09 AM (T3Tpd) _______________ Been following the coverage of that case on Legal Insurrection. What a joke. The state's own medical witness agrees the death might have been an accident. Vincent Di Maio, the defense expert forensic pathologist, says it was an accident, and most likely happened because Gray stood up, or attempted to stand, and then the vehicle accelerated or turned when Gray's neck was flexed, knocking Gray's head into the van wall and causing the damage to his spine. (Since Gray's hands and feet where shackled, when he attempted to stand he didn't have the ability to brace himself against a fall when the van moved). The best the state can argue is that the cops failed to seatbelt Gray. But none of the cops in Baltimore used seatbelts on suspects they were transporting, and the e-mail telling them to start doing it only went out a few days before Gray's death, and there is no evidence the cops in this case even saw the e-mail. But that is what the state is now basing charges of homicide on. It's a travesty. This is nothing but a political prosecution to satisfy the baying mobs. Another place where we conservatives screwed up. The left has been stalking academia and law schools for decades sowing the seeds of destruction on rather fertile grounds. They soon figured out that the appointment of judges was a weak point in our form of government in that many of them get lifetime (or at least very long) tenure and thus their rulings are only loosely coupled with the public sentiment so they can shape the legal landscape for years beyond their terms of office. It seems unconstitutional for congress to deny a "religious test" to the executive branch's "plenary powers" (whatever that is, ianal)
But speaking of power ... hasn't America noticed the decades long influx of Muslims into Europe, and the appeasement attitude that allowed the no go zones in Paris and London? Do they realize that Paris is still under their version of martial law, with 100s arrested and mosques closed? And this is France, for pluck's sake, so totally multi-culti except the Jews France. Too little too late there, but imagine Hillary calling for martial law ... it would be like Putin going after ISIS ... no, he goes after Assad's political enemies. Holder, Lynch, Lerner ... small potatoes compared to a corrupt lying Hillary reign of terror. Why do we want an open door policy for these "stay out of our neighborhood" Muslims? Cutting Sharia out of Islam is like castrating its major thrust, except castration is more permanent. The second generation is vulnerable to "radicalization", which is just a return to their fundamental tenants. The "Muslim pause" makes sense in broad theory, which in policy would get refinements. The grovelling appeasers need to grow a pair, and confront the Hillary hate speech. Posted by: Illiniwek at December 10, 2015 07:53 AM (26Yu7) 130

This is a result of the GOP refusing to nuke the filabuster when the Donks were stopping Bushs judicial appointments so instead the Bush administration and the GOP would submit lists of prospective judicial appointments for the Donks to approve if they weren't approved they wouldn't be nominated. Purges happen when the King is dead, Long live the King. Obama will be gone in a little over a year. I think Trump would be a better King from the viewpoint of the FBI than Hillary. Hillary is toast if the FBI agrees with me. Obama's pet agency is the IRS. Since most of the US is about to be on Medicaid/SNAP/Education Loans and all the Companies bailed out by Federal Agencies the IRS will be superfluous if Hillary gets elected. No revenue, no IRS.

Kinda. The actual found of the Muslim Brotherhood was Hassan al Banna although Sayyid Qtub was an early and influential follower. The reason I bring that up is because what al Banna was really objecting too with the founding of the MB was western and colonial influence corrupting what he believed was correct Egyptian society and government. From it's inception the MB was focused on not just religion but government, law, medicine, a complete Islamic society. When Zawihiri, who's roots were in the MB, joined up with bin Laden, he was much more interested in overthrowing Egypt and what he thought were corrupt ME governments. It was bin Laden who wanted to hit the west. And these are the guys Obama wanted to turn the ME over to. Because he's so smaht. Posted by: JackStraw at December 10, 2015 08:24 AM (/tuJf) 212

Trump's inevitable collapse continues: Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has climbed 13 percentage points since mid-October to 35 percent support in a new national CBS News/New York Times poll released today. The poll was taken both before and after Trumps recent call to ban all Muslims from entering the United States. Sen. Ted Cruz garnered 16 percent support, Ben Carson earned 13 percent and Marco Rubio had 9 percent. This is the second national poll in the last week to show Trumps support in the mid-30s. Even if it's "only" a 100 this year, it will be 200 the next year, then 400, then 800, and that rate of increase would be if we were lucky! Yeah, that's the flaw in his thinking. By the time you reach his 1000 number, it's already too late. If that's too many, then 999 has to be too many, because by the time you reach 1000, it's too late. But if 999 is too many, then... So the answer isn't a set number, it's a level of confidence: am I confident that the Federal Government is willing and able to filter out the terrorists, and able and willing (when the filtering process fails, as it will) to find and capture them *before* they kill 1000 people? And right now the answer to that question is: "no." Moreover, I don't see any way the answer to that question, at current time in the current climate, can ever be "yes" without massively violating civil liberties, and that's not a trade-off I'm willing to make. We do not owe anyone admittance into this country. If you're not a citizen, we don't owe you a damn thing. Western Illinois University (WIU) has correctly prognosticated each president since 1975, and it's got some ideas about next year's contest, too. According to the university's mock election, the 45th president of the United States will be Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders in a 400 EV landslide.
So how did the university reach its conclusion about Sanders? Weed. No, wait -- Thousands of students at the university simulated the election process, including Iowa Caucuses, state primaries, nominating conventions, and the Electoral College vote, from October 20 to November 2, in order to determine the results. http://tinyurl.com/z7zxmco Click thru for the maps and such. Note Sanders is biker-stomping the GOP nominee -- Jeb Bush. And the Libertarian candidate is getting 10% of the vote. Completely believable. That former al Qaeda then spy guy on Megyn quoted Mohammad sayings (hadith) as "I have been made victorious through terror".
www.youtube.com/watch?v=JaM7qo2Dx4A There is cost to some freedoms, but the greater cost is submission. At first the threat of terror only requires an occasional attack, and though the general population prepares (with guns) to fight, the political class cowers and appeases. We need Muslim allies sure, but that doesn't require populating our country with Muslims in the name of diversity. And the open borders crowd only cares about diluting conservative political power, not about religious freedom. The decades long deals we have made with the Saudis would require a long forensic audit to unravel. The middle east oil has come at great cost, and the globalists like Soros, and maybe the Bushes, have a lot of secret deals, it would seem. The hypersensitivity to "thou shalt not insult Islam" preceded Obama, as George Bush was scolding US about being sensitive right after 9/11. Appeasement of everyone, even as we retain superpower status, has driven us into deep debt. Now fear of trade wars means we enrich China and our trade deficits only grow. A decade ago that deficit was "unsustainable" at $30B/month, but "trust us", comparative advantage will swing our way soon. But nope, now it is $60B/month, not counting drug money and remittances. As long as the dollars are flowing outward, appeasement has kept the peace. ZIRP and QE are maybe the end of the road, and our appeasement chickens will come home to roost, and to shoot and bomb. That's not exactly what he said. He said that's the price *he* is willing to pay to protect religious freedom. I do wonder how much that number would change if you changed the question to this: "If you knew absolutely for certain that one or more of the people close to you were going to be included, how many people would you be willing to see die to preserve religious freedom in America?" Because I suspect the answer then would be "zero." And, of course, it misses the point anyway. Mohammedanism (which is an evil death cult) is not a religion in the way everyone else means that word. It is a temporal political philosophy with apocalyptic religious elements. Banning Mohammedans from entering the US is not like banning Jews, Christians, Hindus, or Buddhists. It is much more akin to banning Nazi (or Communist, whatever) activists. They don't want to come here for the freedom, they want to come for conquest. The fact that some (even most) want that conquest to be purely political does not change that they want to take away my own religious freedom. Something just sort of came to me from reading the last post:
Criminals are quick to murder, because they don't value their own lives, so don't value anyone elses. I've held this view for quite a while. Liberals don't want you to have the means to defend yourself, because your life has no value to them. However, they believe their own life has value, hence the disconnect. That's why they can believe that it's okay for them to have carry permits, but not you. I mean, I know it's not super profound, but I'd just never tied the two together. It's obvious, that even in the midst of Trump's ever more likely nomination precisely because people on the right no longer even come close to trusting our representatives, that our representatives don't care in the slightest about what we want them to do. They have decided to show us who is in charge and they have decided that we can like it, or not. It matters not at all to them. It happened when the Democrats Gerry-mandered the 6th district of Maryland, which used to be the predominantly Republican west half of the state. They split in two to add 300,000 from suburban DC and subtract an equal number of Republicans to create a largely rural district dominated by a slice of suburbia. As a result, half a million Republicans in West Maryland have absolutely no representation in Congress. Posted by: V the K at December 10, 2015 08:59 AM (O7MnT) 285
well the math says there are a lot of disenfranchised angry voters out there.
If there were that many "disenfranchised angry voters" then the reps couldn't "afford to ignore roughly 350,000 people in their district." What it says is there are a lot of angry people who sit on their couch. That's the other benefit of the "burn it down" plan - it gets people energized (yes, much like a mob would, I'm not denying that). Then - an object in motion tending to stay in motion - it's easier to *keep* them engaged, to redirect that energy, than it is to get them started in the first place. As long as they think, "Oh, nothing's ever going to change, they're all the same," you'll never get those voters. But if they think, "What? I can lodge an 'F You!' and it'll be heard?" Well, then you can get them off the couch. Once they're off the couch, it's much easier (which is not to say "easy") to redirect them toward positive (or at least "pro-active") goals. Congress is set to vote on Thursday on what some have called an "unprecedented" right that would allow immigrants easier access to relocate to the United States, according to new legislation offered by a Democratic senator.
The legislation, which is being offered by Sen. Patrick Leahy (D., Vt.) as an amendment to a larger bill governing nuclear safety, would prohibit the U.S. government from barring any individual from entering the country based on their religion. -------- 1. .....and they wonder why trump is doing well. 2. ... So is this the left and the right for that matter fully admitting that not only was what he said not unconstitutional but that the executive has the authority at present to do exactly what Trump mentioned... and that they now want to strip that authority from the President? I also think Scott Adams' formulation of what he is willing to sacrifice for religious freedom fails in its scope. In order to keep that one religion comfy we'll have to sacrifice free speech, lose availability/ease with which we procure certain items such as bacon, and integrate all sorts of public accommodations not given to other religions like gender-segregated swim time at public pools, foot baths and prayer rooms at public schools, etc.
Just look at how that religion is accommodated in the UK to get an idea of where things can go. Posted by: Lizzy at December 10, 2015 09:17 AM (NOIQH) 326
Daily EZ Dog- from my dad's WWII diary, for any who are interested
Dec 9, 1943 Stiffened resistance along entire front. Italians completely stopped. Rangers "see-sawing" in San Piedro area. Light shelling. Cloudy. Dec 10, 1943 British cleared area west of Camino to Garigliano River. II Corps still meeting stiff resistance. Little action. Cloudy. Some rain. Allied forces were trying to push into the Liri Valley south of the Abbey at Monte Cassino. Throughout this phase of the Italian campaign the Allies were hampered by the superior position of the Germans (occupying the rugged high ground to the north of the Liri Valley), the Garigliano and Rapido Rivers, both of which were swollen with rain run-off throughout the fall and winter of '43-'44, and the combination of muddy and rocky terrain. Mule trains were often the only way to move men and materiel. http://tinyurl.com/WWIImules (NOTE: San Piedro = San Pietro) Posted by: Seamus Muldoon at December 10, 2015 09:17 AM (NeFrd) 327

I think Trump does not have the termperament to be President, and I don't think the choice should be presented as either RINO/elitists or Trump.
Unfortunately we lost Walker too soon who I think may well have been the most conservative candidate with the best chance in the general. But with that said, the only thing wrong with Trump's proposal (which was more an off the cuff comment than a policy announcement is that he didn't use the word "countries"). For example if he had said (or clarified) that we should stop immigration from all countries with an identified, high incidence of terrorists until we can get a handle, etc. I think it would be harder to demonize him and would be more persuasive to those in the diminishing "center." Yes, persuasion is still a thing. But honey badger got to honey badger. Posted by: Ex NYC Peasant at December 10, 2015 09:31 AM (k8tEg) 372

What disturbs me about Adam's comment is that I'd assumed Muzz love in the West was due to a "run away and join the circus" mentality. So for example the ginger haired westerner has specific concrete instances of the flaws and disappointments with his fellow westerners.
But he has an idealized, romanticized view of Islam free of anything concrete. So, immaturely, he decides to "run away from home" to join the Muslim circus. But Scott Adams knows better than to idealize them. He's not joining and he knows there will be risk. So why support it? Posted by: Bruce Boehner at December 10, 2015 09:35 AM (zTDoA) 392

Then they are paid hundreds of thousands if not millions to just show up at parties. Then there is the 50k plus for just showing up at clubs. And the overseas commercials where they are paid millions to appear in. And there are all the "Dubai" appearances. If times get tough, there are the "yacht" appearances.

Four Israelis all aged 20 or so were wounded in the attack, one moderately to seriously and three lightly. They were brought in for initial medical treatment in Beit Aryeh. The moderately to seriously wounded victim was evacuated to Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikva, while the others were treated at the site. Been decades. Past time I read Tom and Huck again.
I read them both in the last few years. I had resented reading Huck Finn in high school because why were they making me read a children's book? In short, I was an idiot. Huck Finn is brilliant and far too sophisticated for high school students. I really relished reading it. During my Twain binge (I also read Connecticut Yankee, much of the short fiction, and ...um...that other one. But OMG have you read Letters from Satan?) I came to view him as essentially libertarian. He is anti-aristocracy, anti-royalty, anti-prejudice, and has a generalized distrust of all authority. In CT Yankee he even breaks the fourth wall at one point and says "this is how I'd run a country". Tom Sawyer, otoh, is one hard bitch. 1. No abortion or birth control for that matter 2. No recourse for rape --- none, except for being stoned to death for being a victim 3. No safe spaces 4. No gay marriage or any LGBQTxyx for that matter, so goodbye to Ze/Zer/Zim 5. No degrees in womyn's studies, etc. 6. Yes to genital mutilation and other goodies for the gals 7. Slut shaming is no longer a T-H-I-N-G, but, rather a death sentence. That's just the first fiew things that come to mind.
