Tho it got him killed in the end, Timothy Treadwell got the best bear footage of any documentary film makers. i watch a lot of docs on bears. You would think with long lens they would be better. Grizzly bears are so disgusting. They had one over 10 feet tall, with huge paws, 6 inch claws, and a huge jaw. I still dont know why bears dont eat any and all humans they encounter. I still dont know why bears dont eat any and all humans they encounter.
It's believed that predators make a judgment based on the size of the potential prey. Is it worth it or should they just go for smaller, less dangerous-looking prey. That's why you are supposed to stand up tall and open your jacket out to the sides when you encounter a bear. The idea is to look bigger. Some experts think that predators are also uneasy about attacking humans because we walk on two legs, unlike any of their usual dinners. Posted by: Bruce With a Wang! at December 05, 2015 07:02 AM (iQIUe) Yes. What happened, I think, was when we got them I had never been exposed for prolonged periods to the dander, so it just overwhelmed my immune system and made me sensitive to everything. Been under control generally, except every so often when there's a big pollen count. But this is ridiculous. Hate to say it, it coincides with the absence of my housekeeper and we just don't do as good a job of cleaning as she does. Then again, I still have been sneezing up a storm at my office. Posted by: Skip at December 05, 2015 07:09 AM (k0xxN) Tell that to Siegfried and Roy. I don't think it's food or love. Cats like any animal, even domestic ones, will have their instincts kick in if they feel threatened or freaked out or just plain pissed off at you. One of mine is very affectionate and totally bonded with me, but he will bite if I do something that bugs him or if I don't give him enough attention. I'd hate to be on the receiving end of that if he were larger than what he is already. And that's bad enough. Posted by: J.J. Sefton at December 05, 2015 07:13 AM (uRmWf) 62

Being overwhelmed is part of the plan. You cannot fundamentally transform a country without fundamentally transforming the people, or replacing them with people that are more amenable to change. Our country was fundamentally changed in 65 when LBJ/Kennedy overhauled our immigration system from one that favored traditional immigration pools from Europe and first world Anglosphere countries and reoriented it toward the third world shitholes of the world. 90pct of our immigrants now come from countries that are shitholes couple that with our vast welfare state and we are about 10 years from the complete destruction of the country as we know it. Also, TFG: Jeb Bush says that the Senate should confirm the nomination of Loretta Lynch. "I think presidents have the right to pick their team," Bush said, according to reports of his stop at the Politics and Pie forum in Concord, New Hampshire. So after a few hours on the "no posting" bandwagon I've allowed by addiction to get the better of me again. ;^) I just wanted to share this story and then I'll get off until after the dreaded "Hall of Shame" listing:
I just went with spouse to the local pharmacy which is obviously owned or managed by an Asian Indian guy. Probably owned. I bought a few things including a "NY Post" which had a big picture of Jihadi wife on the cover. I didn't say anything about it, but unprompted he remarked (The store had just opened so there was nobody waiting in line behind us) looking at the photo, "That's terrible. You come to this country and try to destroy it. This is my country; I have been here thirty five years. Muslims have many bad people. I am from India so we know how bad they can be. I am Hindu. I am glad people know now that Hindus are not bad people-not the same as Muslims. And the media; It helps this kind of thing; Always acting like we should pretend and not say anything. That's what happened with Hitler. Full media support and people saying nothing." So this Indian guy who's obviously not some "Bigoted white guy" isn't afraid to say what he thinks. "NY Daily News" and other folks may think everyone is on the PC bandwagon, but they're not. Just thought that was interesting. Any organization that is not expressly conservative becomes liberal over time.
And we have seen how progressive infiltrate and take over institutions, so it would seem they have infiltrated the Republican party. The modern America we inhabit was created and shaped by a handful of Presidents and are all Democrats. So the governmental order we now operate under is a wholly Democrat creation. There have been only really two times in the last 50 years where anything was done to even modestly role it back, parts of the 80's and mid-late 90's. Actually our current downward slope and trajectory started with the election of the compassionate conservative George Bush and the GOP taking over the house of Representaives. In order to get broad backing for his costly and disasterous wars, George Bush gave away the store and set the stage for eight years of the SCOAMF. Spending went through the roof, we had lightbulb bans, Medicare program boondoggles and No Child Left behind written by Kennedy. George Bush was an unmitigated disaster. The SCOAMF is worse but that's like trying to figure out which Horseman of the Apocalypse is the least devastating. Posted by: Kreplach at December 05, 2015 09:03 AM (WVvzl) 253

This FB exchange sums up the gulf in our mutual understandings as a country. (To be fair, LiberalGuy I'm talking to is a naturalized citizen, so he didn't grow up with our ideas):
Liberal Guy: I have hundreds of friends here on Facebook, and I can only find 3 or 4 who are in favor of guns as they are today. And yet, they get to represent the majority. I find it shocking how blatantly corrupt the system is, with the NRA paying congressmen to pass ridiculous legislation. Bandersnatch*: LiberlGuy, I think you're having a Pauline Kael moment. ("How could Nixon get elected? I don't know anyone who voted for him.") Half of American households have guns. Almost none of those are ever misused. We're at a moment in which the cultures don't speak with eachother, red/blue, gun/anti-gun, etc. The anti-gunners are generally so unfamiliar with guns and how they work that their statements look silly to the gun people. LiberalGuy: Seriously, Bandersnatch? All I need to know is that a person with a gun can kill me. And the fact that half of the American households have guns is exactly the problem. It's amazing that this country was able to outlaw alcohol for decades and cannot do the same with guns. And finally, it is the pro-gunners that don't want to talk. Nothing that is proposed passes! *(The real Bandersnatch. I'm still feeling a little butthurt that someone posted as Frumious Bandersnatch at #2. That ain't right). Compare what Fenolon's store owner said to what we're hearing from Farook's family, lawyer, and CAIR --- heck, even the whiney muslims complaining about "backlash."
Not an ounce of gratitude for America, not any recognition of what an opportunity it provides to those who emigrate here. Haven't we been lectured by Obama and DHS that we must take ME refugees because they face dangerous persecution in their homeland? But CAIR director said America was partially to blame for these terror attacks. Maybe we should just respond: "You're right, America is awful, please do go back to your homeland." The California baby girl orphaned when her killer parents died in a shootout with cops after they slaughtered 14 people at an office holiday party may soon be adopted by her uncle. Well, dandy. Obviously the family is great at raising kids right. Posted by: Laurie David's Cervix at December 05, 2015 09:21 AM (kdS6q) 278
Hoping the Horde has some information -- is there another large religion that requires 'pilgrimage' for all believers? Seems more political to me, like making sure believers come back to the hive occasionally for retraining.

"JEF on his radio address said he knows these people may have come under "the influence of extremist groups"
I wonder if these extremist groups share any common viewpoints and theological leanings. And if they might have some sort of writings and teaching which they draw guidance and authority from? Posted by: Village Idiot's Apprentice at December 05, 2015 09:23 AM (ptqRm) 283

"So we have that."
They very well may when they come here. Nothing to say on that. But on the international stage they are a natural ally. Anti-Muslim, third or fourth largest armed forces in the world, anti-China, fairly capitalistic. I see some synergies there. Posted by: Ricardo Kill at December 05, 2015 09:24 AM (DggRG) 286

***** Do you think you could ease him around to a different point of view by asking him what his plan for self-defense is? Or if he has a wife and child ask him "What if guns were outlawed and an outlaw with a gun threatened your family, how would you choose to defend them?" I would expect him to have some magical belief system ('the police will protect me', 'pepper spray', 'I would ask my wife to pee on the attacker' or the like), but maybe you could ease him to an understanding of proportional force to resist force. >>Can we stop having sympathy for the family? They are not to be believed or trusted. They all knew. They may have all been in on it
Hadn't heard about granny and sis. Explains how CAIR was involved so soon (or prepped in advance). Bet most of this will NOT be pursued by MSM - much better to go with "magical radicalization fairy made him do it!!" narrative. No. I've spent most of my life in Injun Territory. I've lived in the Northeast and in Europe. These people are most of whom I know. This guy in particular is from the translation industry in which I used to work. It's a more liberal subset of the Northeast/Europe axis. (This guy is Brazilian, fwiw). They really don't understand our point of view and don't want to. I'm sort of undercover in that world because I've lived in their places and speak their languages. They're always horrified to find that I'm not joking when I say I have guns and am quite fond of them. Posted by: Bandersnatch at December 05, 2015 09:29 AM (1xUj/) 295
Day 492: Can't sleep, squirrels will eat me.
Seriously, the little bastards are audible most days doing God-knows-what. I have a three day weekend so a call WILL be made on pater familias' behalf to get someone out here to start the eviction process. Last thing I need is for the furry invaders to start gnawing through electrical wires or cables or such. Fuckers. I fully understand the Empress' hatred for them now. I was blessed to see Stevie Ray a number of times before he became famous. I never met him though.
From the mid- to late-eighties, I lived in Fort Worth. My next door neighbor was a social worker whose office was in Argyle, which is kind of south of Denton, and one of her duties was leading a weekly AA meeting. She asked me in 88 or 89 if I knew of someone famous named "Steve Vaughan," because some of the other AA attendees were talking about him. My eyes bugged out and I played her several of his albums. She had no idea who he was. According to her, he was extremely polite, a little bit shy, but was a recent convert to Christianity and talked about it all the time. Within a year, he was dead. What a tragic loss. Posted by: Michael the Hobbit at December 05, 2015 10:46 AM (dPpmC) 300
Thanks. I thought they were already deader than dead when they cuffed them, which seemed strange.
Posted by: WhatWhatWhat? at December 05, 2015 06:57 AM (HMt16) I understand that it's SOP to restrain a downed suspect just in case they might be mostly dead instead of "dead dead." It also makes it easier for emergency medical personnel to take care of a mostly dead bad guy if they're restrained. I look forward to a close photo of Jihadist girl. After the Boston bombing, someone leaked photos of a dead Speedbump Tsarnaev. I hope someone does the same with these demons. Didn't hear about the jihadist couples baby but the good thing is being a orphan automatically dismisses her for future jihad acts. Thanks Barak.

Stevie Ray Vaughan is good, but this time of year I prefer Joel Everett. His new album 'A Christmas Reflection' is out on Amazon and I believe itunes.
