Tho it got him killed in the end, Timothy Treadwell got the best bear footage of any documentary film makers. i watch a lot of docs on bears. You would think with long lens they would be better. Grizzly bears are so disgusting. They had one over 10 feet tall, with huge paws, 6 inch claws, and a huge jaw. I still dont know why bears dont eat any and all humans they encounter. They cant really run fast enough to escape. Bears would eat a deer they encountered, so why not humans? Maybe we taste like shit.

Yes. What happened, I think, was when we got them I had never been exposed for prolonged periods to the dander, so it just overwhelmed my immune system and made me sensitive to everything.
Been under control generally, except every so often when there's a big pollen count. But this is ridiculous. Hate to say it, it coincides with the absence of my housekeeper and we just don't do as good a job of cleaning as she does. Then again, I still have been sneezing up a storm at my office.

I don't think it's food or love. Cats like any animal, even domestic ones, will have their instincts kick in if they feel threatened or freaked out or just plain pissed off at you. One of mine is very affectionate and totally bonded with me, but he will bite if I do something that bugs him or if I don't give him enough attention. I'd hate to be on the receiving end of that if he were larger than what he is already. And that's bad enough.

IIRC, cops are trained to cuff ANY perp when he's "immobilized," without checking vitals first. If he had been alive -- not a solid likelihood, given the quantity of blood on the ground -- he might have tried to escape, pulled another weapon, had a detonator, etc.

Kind of old news, but I don't have a link. BATFEIEIO was caught illegally keeping records of background checks by not purging the databases years ago. Several times, if memory serves. What made it worse was that the databases are *supposed* to be set up to auto-purge after the backgrounder is completed and passed.

I just went with spouse to the local pharmacy which is obviously owned or managed by an Asian Indian guy. Probably owned. And we have seen how progressive infiltrate and take over institutions, so it would seem they have infiltrated the Republican party.
The modern America we inhabit was created and shaped by a handful of Presidents and are all Democrats.
So the governmental order we now operate under is a wholly Democrat creation. There have been only really two times in the last 50 years where anything was done to even modestly role it back, parts of the 80's and mid-late 90's.
Actually our current downward slope and trajectory started with the election of the compassionate conservative George Bush and the GOP taking over the house of Representaives.
In order to get broad backing for his costly and disasterous wars, George Bush gave away the store and set the stage for eight years of the SCOAMF.
Spending went through the roof, we had lightbulb bans, Medicare program boondoggles and No Child Left behind written by Kennedy.
George Bush was an unmitigated disaster.
The SCOAMF is worse but that's like trying to figure out which Horseman of the Apocalypse is the least devastating.

Do you think you could ease him around to a different point of view by asking him what his plan for self-defense is? Or if he has a wife and child ask him "What if guns were outlawed and an outlaw with a gun threatened your family, how would you choose to defend them?" I would expect him to have some magical belief system ('the police will protect me', 'pepper spray', 'I would ask my wife to pee on the attacker' or the like), but maybe you could ease him to an understanding of proportional force to resist force.

No. I've spent most of my life in Injun Territory. I've lived in the Northeast and in Europe. These people are most of whom I know.
This guy in particular is from the translation industry in which I used to work. It's a more liberal subset of the Northeast/Europe axis. (This guy is Brazilian, fwiw). They really don't understand our point of view and don't want to.
I'm sort of undercover in that world because I've lived in their places and speak their languages. They're always horrified to find that I'm not joking when I say I have guns and am quite fond of them.

From the mid- to late-eighties, I lived in Fort Worth. My next door neighbor was a social worker whose office was in Argyle, which is kind of south of Denton, and one of her duties was leading a weekly AA meeting.
She asked me in 88 or 89 if I knew of someone famous named "Steve Vaughan," because some of the other AA attendees were talking about him. My eyes bugged out and I played her several of his albums. She had no idea who he was.
According to her, he was extremely polite, a little bit shy, but was a recent convert to Christianity and talked about it all the time.
Within a year, he was dead. What a tragic loss.

I understand that it's SOP to restrain a downed suspect just in case they might be mostly dead instead of "dead dead." It also makes it easier for emergency medical personnel to take care of a mostly dead bad guy if they're restrained.
