Cawlege Football Thread: Week 11 [CBD]

Unranked Wake Forest Visits wherever #1 Clemson plays: 3:30pm
#2 Alabama hosts Charleston Southern in Tuscaloosa 4:00pm
#3 Ohio State hosts #9 Michigan State (this should be good) 3:30pm
#4 Notre Dame meets unranked Boston College..at Fenway Park! 7:30pm
#5 Iowa is having boilermakers (Purdue) for lunch 12:00pm

All Rankings From NCAA

Interesting that the top five college teams have not had a whiff of protest amongst their players. Could there be some relationship between the quality of their play and their interest in imaginary racial slights?

The players on the schools that are tops in the standings know to keep their pie holes shut about whining and diaper changing and all things rayciss as they have a chance for a big payday when they get out of the NFL's farm system.

19 That Clemson girl reminds me of the weightlifter girl character Jim Carrey played on In Living Color.

And, off topic, the sidebar article about climate change hearings? Heavily biased writing in the Hill, including lines such as:

Smith has been investigating a NOAA study published this summer that disproved the notion that global warming has "paused" for more than 15 years, an argument that climate change skeptics like Smith have long held onto.

Using the word "skeptics" and "disproved" indicate that the writer believes a certain way about the topic and more wants the reader to as well. That report didn't disprove crap and had many complains from scientists in the NOAA which the article declines to mention.

88 It's like there is some law of the universe that there has to be some asshole out there causing trouble, and if one goes out of retirement, another has to be appointed to take its place.

There are always assholes in the world. Under some Presidents - Wilson, Obama - the US has been one of the assholes.

We can spend this country's wealth on seeking monsters abroad to slay (paraphrasing Washington, I think), or we can spend it on keeping the assholes out. I'm coming around to option #2.

If I had to gamble, I'd say cheerleading will be the left's next target, though. I always had a funny feeling that the left wouldn't like Campus *Crusade* for Christ, Redskins, and CBF popularity, and they ended up waging.biiter war on all of them.

With cheerleading, the implication is that men do all the important work (throwing a funny shaped ball to each other and colliding) while it is the role of women to sit on the sidelines, look pretty, and encourage the menfolk.

They will agonize that this acts at a subconscious level to get people believing sexist narratives and encouraging sexism in other contexts.

Cheerleading will be the next battleground, and they will push for all male squads and all female teams for games no one will show up to. You heard it here first.

If that happens and Trump runs as an independent, we will all be told that we HAVE to vote for the GOPe candidate, or else we'll be responsible for electing Hillary.

But suppose Trump wins the R nomination, and Jeb! announces an independent run to prevent the White House being won by an "extremist". 168 If the GOPe was to learn one single thing from Trump's campaign, it's to Stop the Damn Apologizing all the time. That's lesson number one. It can't be said enough. Instead of running back to the MFM apologizing for saying what he believes, Trump STANDS UP for himself. Relentlessly on message. Relentlessly. What a concept. And the people love it.

There are many other lessons the GOPe should learn from Trump's campaign, but they should start there. They should, but they will not. Because they are the GOPe.

The politicians who would benefit from future democrats in their districts or state or the nation are dragging that card out again. To which my reply is, 'f*ck you, I'm really not'.

I don't care that you might win election or reelection with more people who will vote for you. I care about self preservation first, then my spouse, my children, my grandchildren, and last but not least - my fellow Americans.

There are 57 Islamic countries. Go guilt them. Or don't you think that *they* are better than that?

Let's see: which of the other candidates got rich entirely through his own hard work? Obama has gathered up several million scoots, but it wasn't exactly through actual, you known, "work." John F'n Kerry?

Jack Kennedy's daddy was rich, too. So was FDR's. Neither one of them had any record as successful business-types (or successful anythings before they got into the White House. They spent their entire adult lives slurping at the public trough. And living off Daddy's stash.

Bingo. The old saying is, "First rate people hire first rate people. Second rate people hire third rate people."

What that means is that first rate people are confident in their abilities and want to hire the best people they can find to work for them. Second rate people are desperately afraid of being outshown by their underlings, so they make sure to hire only people they think are clearly inferior to themselves. The result, predictably, is disaster.

That's why I was an ardent supporter of Sarah Palin. I had complete confidence that she got that.

245 I dismiss a lot of Trumps supposed gaffes because he speaks off the cuff. When you do that all the time like he does you will occasionally phrase something awkwardly or inappropriately. Like the comment he made about Ivanka's beauty. He intended that to be a compliment as a father who appreciates the beauty of his daughter and wound up sounding pervy. He always compliments her for her grace and intelligence as well. He is a really good father who is devoted to his kids. He made all of his sons work heavy machinery at construction sites before he ever let them do any management work and sit in a nice, comfortable office pushing paper. His own dad made him do the same thing. His dad made him do manual labor like painting garage floors before he ever let have any significant role in his own business. Trump has done that same thing with his own kids.

Trump has been a very public figure to those of us who grew up around NYC for most of our lives. It's not like I haven't seen him for decades. And he has never been anything remotely like a conservative thought leader. Hell, this is a guy who was praising Canada's single payer healthcare a couple years ago.

I'm not totally wild about any of the candidates left in the race. I'd like to feel better about Trump but he's going to have to start actually talking about his plans in detail before I can get excited about him. Just saying I'll get good people and manage the shit out to things doesn't do it for me.

250 I didn't listen to the sermon where the Pope said, "parties and lights are a travesty" after all the violence but I did listen to the little clip where he basically said the violence was senseless and terrible. I don't know that he's telling people not to engage in merrymaking. I think he's just understandably sombre and appalled and saying that he can't be lighthearted where this kind of thing goes on. But I think people should engage in regular holiday activities even if they are subdued. We shouldn't let the violence of radical Muslims change our plans. Yes, the world is violent but in this case it isn't people who would celebrate Christmas (even in a secular fashion) who are committing the violence. If ISIS members did sincerely embrace Christianity and practice it the world would be a better place, and of course since the world hasn't embraced Christianity and been transformed by the fruit of the Spirit it will always be a violent place. And yes, one can go to parties while still being a prayerful person.

Exactly. And look at how Romney's foreign policy has been right, right, right, and dead on every single time, where the Obama team mocked him constantly. I don't like Romney as a candidate. I don't care for his record. I don't trust him as a politician, particularly for how underhanded and sleazy his primary campaign was.

But he'd have done a good job as president. He would have been competent and on top of things. We wouldn't have had Marie Harff talking about state policy. The Obama administration is so shockingly incompetent, tone deaf, out of touch, foolish, and outrageously without the slightest sense of reality its inconceivable to me.

256 That Pope quote isn't exactly as bad as it sounds in the headline. I get what he's trying to say and suspect the translation is losing some of his tone.

Christmas is approaching: there will be lights, parties, Christmas trees and nativity scenes... it's all a charade. The world continues to go to war. The world has not chosen a peaceful path. There are wars today everywhere, and hate.

Basically it looks to me like he's saying all the decorations and stuff are lies in a world that is so filled with hate and war. Now, he's kind of missing the point of Christmas being the Prince of Peace coming to save us and bring us peace with God, but it just sounds like he's broken hearted and sad at what is happening. What he needs to do is focus on the gospel and God's promises, not wars and rumors of war.

Posted by: Christopher Taylor

---

Yes, I hear you. But this this is the problem with this Pope. He deliberately states things in a vague way so he can imply a lefty narrative, but if anyone calls him on it, he has deniability.

In this case, he could have said, "Don't just concentrate on selfish enjoyment, on hedonism. Remember all the victims of terror, and the grief experienced by their families. Remember that our world is plagued by evil, and we must give comfort and protection to the victims and potential victims."

But instead he just says, "the world is engulfed in war, how dare you take part in this charade?" as if the the celebrants are automatically guilty of something, merely by celebrating.

He's done this before, as with homosexuals. Seems to be intentional.

I'm not sure about that based on the whole ORCA fiasco and what lousy campaign managers and consultants Romney had. From everything I know about Trump, he won't make that kind of mistake. He expects competence and efficiency from the people he hires. If his campaign falls apart it will because of him and some failure on his part. He has very smart, shrewd people working for him.

Unfortunately, when you have men without chests scared of their own shadow, virtues such as duty and honor have no meaning.

318 As Colonel Jessup put it in the movie A Few Good Men:

We use words like "honor," "code," "loyalty." We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punch line.

I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it.

I would rather that you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon and stand the post. Either way, I don't give a DAMN what you think you're entitled to!

The pathetic leftist onesie-wearing Aaron Sorkin wrote this as a condemnation of men like the Colonel but in the end he made a hero of the guy.

Junior Seau book excerpt reinforces grim painting of NFL's injury treatment (Yahoo)

http://tinyurl.com/osazrxe

I swear, these fucks are going to make players wear bubble wrap before too long. FFS, the players make googobs of money, not to mention, some actually don't want to let their teammates down, and don't want to be thought of as weak. Not surprising, since there's a similar mindset in the military (minus the fame and fortune, of course).

Before I got out, the Army started this thing where our kevlars were fitted with a sensor that collected data that can be uploaded via usb to monitor knocks to the head due to IEDs or other trauma. It was a weekly thing where we'd have to go to the NCO who was in charge and have the data uploaded. Don't see why the NFL can't do the same.

Hit your stride.
Go teach the Bulldogs to behave,
Send the Yellow Jackets to a watery grave.
And if a man starts to weaken,
That's a shame!
For Bama's pluck and grit have
Writ her name in Crimson flame.
Fight on, fight on, fight on men!
Remember the Rose Bowl, we'll win then.
Go, roll to victory,
Hit your stride,

Crimson Tide, Roll Tide, Roll Tide!!
