None of them. No one politician can. This mess is not going to sort out because we elect someone or a lot of someones. It is cultural, local, family, social. We can only fix this ourselves. last thread bemoaned no common ground
America's common ground has been our LIBERTY defined through the US Constitution and Bill of Rights. Once gaining our Independence, people who came to the USA expected to personally work hard and enjoy an equitable degree of "liberty and justice". When we divert, we misuse government, suffer abuses, and ultimately self destruct. Plato wrote there is no bad form of government, only misuse of form. Regardless of structure, the honest application determines "good" government, of intelligent justice to LAW. Do not elect undisciplined/dishonest persons to govern. Without a sure foundation, no amount of military prowess will deliver security, let alone freedom. Self Responsibility is Required of Liberty. If we can't be honest with ourselves, our entire perspective is skewed, and all our efforts for naught. Beam/Mote. Posted by: maverick muse at November 11, 2015 05:10 PM (hCdMd) 40

Not "shouldn't," can't. This isn't something politicians CAN fix. Culture is where this all comes from, not the top. We get the politicians we do from culture, not the other way around. Until we change as a people, the politicians are just the result of who we are. Unless you want to elect a dictator who passes all kinds of laws and regulations to force people to do what you want. There can not be peaceful coexistence between those who live to control others and those who refuse to be controlled. Before now there was always an "out there somewhere" that could be escaped to, but unless the Offworld Colonies are developed pretty quick here (which they can't be in an age of hyper-liability and risk aversion) there will simply * have* to be a reworking of the dynamic. As usual, it would have been better if the controllers had been slapped down hard to begin with, but humans just don't seem to work that way. Didn't Kaysuck have a stint at Lehman during the out years? If so, that explains why he doesn't know shit about the banking system.
Very simply, and I don't know that much shit about it either, banks have a capital structure. If a bank is in such bad shape that the depositors are in danger, then someone is asleep at the regulatory switch. That is really bad. What should've been done is to take the failing banks out and shoot them. In the capital structure, the first to go is the shareholders, those who hold equity in the bank. Then comes the bondholders. And there are several layers in that mess. And then finally, the depositors. If you run a bank poorly, you, the owners, lose your asses. If necessary, the TARP money (and a fraction of it) could've been used to recapitalize new banks made of the depositors of the old banks, with the old banks management and shareholder and perhaps bondholders losing their asses. But private profits and social losses is what cronyism is all about. Posted by: publius (not Breitbart publius) at November 11, 2015 09:35 PM (dvuhZ) 195
Ace and crew, please take up the TPP deal in some detail. This seems to be the whole ball of wax for this once-sovereign country. Is it almost over?

Gotta have the soma to keep the betas, gammas, and deltas contented.
Didn't the alphas get the occasional hit of soma, as well? When they weren't playing "button, button, who's got the button?" Posted by: Fox2! at November 12, 2015 01:16 AM (brIR5) 197
Was enjoying the podcast at work until talk turned to Hillary and how Republicans wanted to control how she used her body, and had to stop or would have had a seizure. JohnE started it and Ace finished it.
