Can't speak to the economics of distillation into liquor, but rye as a crop is damned robust. If the market demands more rye grain, it'll show up without any trouble. Farmers cut back on rye not because it's a difficult or costly thing to grow, but just because for a while there it wasn't being bought much. Oh, Anna, if your protagonists are in Italy I must beg that they pick up a Villar-Perosa M1915. It is the conversion of the Villar Perosa lmg (in 9 Glisenti!) originally for motorcycle sidecars, and airplanes, and later when found not terribly useful the were sent to alpine troops, usually equiped with the steel plate shield, which was found to be pretty useless and heavy. It was jury-rigged to a SMG for the Italian version of the Stormtroopers
(about 0:40 mark in this video) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_W_mmIL_qHM And here is a young lady shooting the Alpine troop version without the shield off a bipod. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aq7uXjbY5bk Posted by: Kindltot at October 06, 2015 10:39 AM (3pRHP) Posted by: Nip Sip at October 06, 2015 10:39 AM (jJRIy) 62
It struck me a few days ago that this is what baffles me about the Lefitst elite:
On one hand, they consider patriotism and nationalism to be outdated and crude - so they're all for open borders, international law, amnesty and so on. On the other hand , they promote tribal divisiveness, setting races, sexes, and religions (and the non-religious) against each other. They aspire to One World Utopia and at the very same time insist on defining and splitting us up into narrowly defined groups - which all distrust and dislike The Other. I'm not sure how you get the Global Elites placidly reigning over us all when you've got blacks and Hispanics and Muslims and whites fighting each other, men and women fighting each other, gays fighting with straights, fanatical atheists fighting Christians, etc. It's like they're tossing a match into a vat of gasoline while they've assured themselves they'll be able to control the fire. So Obama is doing the "temporary" Sect. of Ed nomination and now Cotton is doing this:
Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., announced Monday he would place a hold on three ambassadorial nominations until there are consequences --- and a criminal investigation --- for Secret Service agents who allegedly accessed a congressman's private records. Cotton took to the Senate floor Monday afternoon to chastise the agency for, in his view, attempting to intimidate House Oversight and Government Reform Chairman Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, as he conducted oversight of the Secret Service. http://blogs.rollcall.com/hill-blotter/ cotton-blocks-nominees-after-secret-service-chaffetz-probe/?dcz= Posted by: Lizzy at October 06, 2015 10:49 AM (NOIQH) 92

PA actually has gun law preemption, so municipalities aren't allowed to enforce any of their own gun laws. I mean, if they do they can be sued by the person with standing but most of these stupid laws rarely get enforced.

Turkey is having elections around Nov. 1. There is a clampdown on the Turkish free press and Erdogan held an anti-Kurdish rally in France that drew a crowd of 12,000.
Meanwhile this happened: Russia's violation of Turkish airspace over the weekend "does not look like an accident", Nato has said. Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said Russia had not provided "any real explanation" of the violation, which "lasted for a long time." Russia says Saturday's incursion was brief and due to bad weather. It is examining claims of another violation. Turkey's army also says an unidentified fighter jet locked its radar on to eight of its jets on Monday. It echoes a similar incident on Sunday, when an unidentified Mig-29 - which analysts say may have been Syrian - locked its radar onto Turkish jets for more than five minutes over the Turkish-Syrian border.
