Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | The Mask Falls: Left Calling for "Gun-Free Society"They had previously lied about their goals, claiming to be in favor of "sensible gun safety measures" or other rot. But now they're becoming more honest: a Washington Post editor just explicitly called for a "gun free society.A Gun Free Society. By Fred HiattNote that he claims that using these words is dangerous, because the NRA would interpret them as a slippery slope argument to claim that the left wants a gun free society. But that is precisely what Hiatt wants. He's accusing the NRA of being right, but in an unhelpful way. Ezra's Folly, I mean Vox, jumps on the idea and pushes it. Harry Reid claimed to be pro-Second Amendment for his whole career -- but now that he's retiring, there's no more reason to maintain that fiction:
The White House confirmed that President Obama was preparing a series of executive actions on gun control to match his recent passion on the issue after the latest mass shooting in Oregon. "It's a high priority and will continue to be until we start to see more progress on this issue in this town," White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest told reporters today at the press briefing. Earnest said he would "quibble" with anyone who criticized the president for not voicing any specific gun control proposals during his press conference, asserting that the White House was working behind the scenes for more executive actions on guns. "I can tell you that they're not stumped, they’re continuing to review the law that’s on the books and continuing to consult with legal authorities but also others who may have ideas about what steps that can be taken to keep guns out of the hands of criminals," Earnest said.Glenn Reynolds predicts the Democrats will pay a price for this, and further speculates that Obama is pushing gun control because his foreign and economic policies are in tatters. Obama would just as soon we didn't talk about any of these debacles. The gun issue may not be a winner for him, but it's an ideologically divided issue where most Democrats will take his side, and it’s a hot-button issue that lets him inflame debate just by bringing it up. These other stories, meanwhile, raise questions about Obama’s presidency that even Democrats are finding hard to ignore. Is it any wonder that Obama would rather talk about guns?Maybe just more Stray Voltage. But maybe not. Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

Watch the back door.... this is slight of hand, and battle prep space, for the real attack.
That attack will come through TREATIES. It will have gun control buried in it... because we will have to be able to tell other countries where our guns are at... And of course, the Surrender monkeys of the GOP have given fast track authority to anything Obama calls a Trade Agreement... even if it has Gun Control, or Environmental Law... impacts. Note, we have no idea what is in the Trans Pacific Trade Pact ... it has been done in secret... but we DO know it has major impacts on things such as Patent Laws... which are EXPLICTLY controlled by Congress... not jus the Senate through a Ratification process. The GOPe will give Obama what he wants, so they can later RUN AGAINST IT... just like they did with Obamacare. They do, and they bitch about how the shows do not offer a third way. It's all "pacifists die, gun nuts live" outrage. Spoiler ridden example linked in my nic. A taste: "The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead send the message to a society in the throes of endless war, openly nativist and racist politics, and mass gun psychosis that the only way to ensure the survival of you and your loved ones is to act with maximum brutality at all times. It's not that I'm saying these shows are turning people into killers; on the contrary, everyone involved knows damn well that this is decadent nonsense since virtually no one watching will ever be in the personal position to do anything like what Travis Manawa and Madison Clark are made to do. But the same is true of the NRA or Donald Trump or Ben Carson, who for political and financial profit fuel the paranoid, masturbatory murder fantasies of a country full of gunfucking shut-ins terrified of the unwashed, undead masses flowing over the border, out of the ghettoes, and into Main Street USA. Ideologically, Rick Grimes and George Zimmerman are just a zombie apart." Posted by: wooga at October 05, 2015 08:29 PM (x9NcI) 81

Yep, I feel exactly the same way. I have maybe 25 decent years left -- not enough to make it worth living on my knees. But here's the thing: They'll approach this incrementally. Suppose one of their first moves is a confiscatory tax on ammo -- a tax that, say, doubles the price. Is that enough for anyone to take the path of the "constitutional remedy"? Probably not. So then they'll double it again. And they'll declare anything more modern than a flintlock to be a class 3 device. It's only surprising that they admitted it. Registration, licensed dealers, gun-free zones, all of them are doomed to failure and will require stricter measures until you inevitably reach confiscation. "Slippery slope" isn't an accusation of intentional deceit (though it's that for many gun control proponents) but the logical prediction of the sequence of events, each one determined by the conditions that caused the preceding one remaining unchanged.
Not that confiscation will work, either -- just look at how safe Mexico is. Posted by: Socratease at October 05, 2015 08:46 PM (FqHs5) 161
The liberals don't want upright citizens to be allowed guns, eh? Ask a Cuban to see how that has turned out. Or a Mexican. Or a North Korean. Of course, if they abolish the 2nd Amendment, they will also have to take any "arms" (as guns are technically "fire" arms); so no swords, battle axes, war hammers, clubs, cudgels, blackjacks, knives, daggers, dirks, nunchuks, bec de corbins, halberds, spears, bows, crossbows, garrotes, maces, morning stars, flails, whips, etc. The NRA members at their next convention should all be armed with swords; no laws against that, right? Folks, it's time for nothing short of overt, massive resistance against the Federal scum.
What's it gonna take before people say enough is enough? Start looking for and finding ways to avoid taxes, pay as little into the system as possible as long as you can, support nothing Federal. Attack big business with boycotts, bad press and protests. Conservatives/Christians should be able to put a 10% dent or more in just about any company. Given how bad they want to grow earnings, that should get their attention. And as far as Christians submitting to the rulers and authorities, you're gonna have to decide: am I going to submit, or am I going to resist the devil? Those are mutually exclusive items when relating to the Feds not, because the US government is now the most evil institution in this country. Our greatest enemy isn't al-Qaeda, or ISIS, or Putin. It's the US government, starting with that sub-human mongrel currently occupying the White House. Ask everyone for whom that was a litmus test s few election cycles ago. Or mass deportation. Or the deal with Iran. Need to modify that. Can't eliminate it and go back. Hey BLM, heads up! The party of the Klan has just announced they're gearing up to send troops of white cops into the inner city to tear apart your homes looking for guns.
I guess they must figure that when you can't shoot back, you can't riot and resist. Well, it's one way to answer the BLM question. Posted by: Multitude at October 05, 2015 09:17 PM (c7WnJ) 314
I doubt they could rely solely on the po po. Even in NY there were departments who publicly stated they would not be enforcing the SAFE act. They'd have to get the military involved and it would tear the country apart.
The better route is to regulate it to death. Make buying a box of ammo an NFA issue. $200 tax stamp, six month wait, and God knows how much the actual ammo would cost in that situation. Posted by: Mr. Healthy Penis at October 05, 2015 09:17 PM (LYCUN) 315

Also - how exactly are we going to achieve this magical gun-free society? I mean, just wondering, but how are you legally and physically going to get guns away from people? Door to door? Buy backs? Legally it would seem the second amendment has themstumped. Physically - there are a LOT of people that would resist any imaginable confiscation scheme, perhaps violently. People would hide them. There would be a robust trade in illegal weapons. Hell, people can and would make their own guns. (look up the term "zip gun" sometime). The desire is questionable, the legality dubious, but the physical ability to confiscate 300 million or so private firearms is ridiculous. I'm sure Vox has some method, like hanging a giant electro magnet from a blimp, and just sweeping it over the land to collect guns. Storytime!
When I was in fourth grade, our private school put up one of those dumb Gun-Free Zone signs in the front lawn. I think some law or regulation was passed making them do it because I can remember the entire school staff grousing about it. My best friend even made up a hilarious "We are a drug-free-gun-free school zoooone" song about it. When I was in sixth grade, we had to check weather stations around the school for a meteorology unit every morning, and one morning my best friend found a handgun hidden in the bushes. Because he went hunting with his dad, he know this was not something to mess around with, so he herded his partner into the school, ran to the secretary's office and told her to call the police. He then ran back to the guard the door to make sure no little kids got near the bush (we were a K-8 school and it wasn't uncommon for little ones to use the door by the seventh grade classroom). The police came, took the gun, interviewed all of us, and that was it. We never heard why the gun was there or who dropped it, but this was in the days before school shootings, so we really thought nothing of it. And where was the bush that he found the gun in? About 15-20 yards from the Gun-Free Zone sign. Posted by: pookysgirl can almost run at October 05, 2015 09:20 PM (K27gs) 329
"Harry Reid claimed to be pro-Second Amendment for his whole career --
but now that he's retiring, there's no more reason to maintain that fiction" This is one among many reasons that I severed ties with the NRA. They gave Reid their imprimatur, and he proceeded to quietly work against gun rights, behind the scenes and via indirect methods. For decades. Similarly: Kirsten Gillibrand. She posed as a supporter of gun rights and got NRA's endorsement, even though it was plain as a pikestaff that she would cynically dump the pose the instant she moved from her upstate House seat to a statewide Senate run. I don't know how many guns I have. My memory is very bad that way, somehow. Also, every damn time I buy one, a one-a-billion freak accident happens which destroys/loses the gun beyond any hope of finding. Boating accidents. Sometimes the earth just opens up and swallows 'em right then and there.
I tell what they will do. They know they can't confiscate anywhere near all the guns out there. Ammunition, however, is a consumable. That's where they'll put the squeeze on us. Make it illegal to buy ammunition, effectively (10,000% tax, etc, etc). It's a similar tact to what they tried in New Jersey with 50 cal rifles after Newtown. A 50 cal rifle has never been used in the commission of a crime in New Jersey or the rest of America for that matter but the Donks wanted to ban it just because they could but Chrisite vetoed it. Which is one of the few things hes done a good job on, keeping the Donks from passing useless gun laws. Sadly the next governor is going to be a Donk and they've been pent up for the last eight years so I have unrelenting and draconian gun laws to look forward to. France is so safe that cars burn daily and synogogues are attacked. Meanwhile, the people who can't build a government website at 10x what it would cost the private sector think they can a) take away the rights written and affirmed in the Constitution and b) confiscate every gun-- not just those of Bob Peckerwood, NRA Member, but Shabiq Shabazz and Enrique Tijuana, both professionals who depend on their weapon for their daily commerce. 350,000,000 guns out there. Time to revisit this, I think, at The Federalist.
"The Revenge Of The Lost Boys" 'Western societies are producing more and more Lost Boys, the fail-to-launch young men who carry dangerous social grudges.' Most excellent article. Teaser: "This is not a novel observation, but it’s worth remembering the important role sex and masculine identity—or the lack of one—play in the life of dysfunctional young men. In many cases, these man-boys are confused about their sexuality and frustrated by their own social awkwardness, and seek to compensate for it. They turn into what German writer Hans Enzensberger called “the radicalized losers,” the unsuccessful males who channel their blunted male social impulses toward destruction." http://preview.tinyurl.com/nqcbf8a Posted by: Mike Hammer, etc., etc. at October 05, 2015 10:31 PM (9mTYi) 566

She's stopped blogging, but a psychiatrist by
the nic Dr. Sanity pointed out what drives the left is narcissism. They also suffer from pathological denial of reality. Combine those two things and you have some evil, insane people. Posted by: Tilikum Killer Assault Whale at October 05, 2015 10:49 PM (hVdx9) Wright's explanation was similar. It's a Pharisee's stolen pride driving them, and sanctimony is the only thing that can drown out the shame of being liars that also deceive themselves. It's like crack cocaine, they, no matter how much of a fuckup or failure they are, can look down their noses at the most accomplished of people. Their philosophy starts with an idea that there is no truth, and from there, it can embrace only error. If there is no truth, life is a roulette wheel, and anything that works repeatedly and consistently is cheating and must be punished. IE, Western Civilization. This is why they hate us and everything we stand for. They are insane and evil. Posted by: Cato the Rebel Without a Party at October 05, 2015 10:53 PM (HalrA) 625

Oh and the Biker Gangs in Oz were very very busy from 1996 to now. Too many stories to cite, but here is one that happened in Sydney and in a neighborhood near the touristy zone. http://tinyurl.com/OzBikersshootingeachother So please for explain which utopia they want to try and emulate? There is no such thing as a gun-free society. There are only societies where law-abiding citizens are forbidden to own firearms.
Those societies fall into two broad categories: dictatorships (North Korea, China, Cuba, Russia until very recently), where governments and security forces retain a monopoly on firearms so as to keep the masses under control. social hellholes, where criminals (and police) are well armed and ordinary citizens are helpless. Most of these have gun homicide rates way higher than the US (Jamaica, Mexico, Venezuela). Venezuela banned private gun ownership in 2012. Since then its gun homicide rate has increased more than 15 per cent. So that really worked. In any case, eliminating the US's 350 million privately owned firearms is impossible. But the anti-gun bleaters don't really want to do that. In their world, action is not the point--posturing and talk are enough. Posted by: Erwin at October 05, 2015 10:56 PM (jd0O4) 630
You're simply wrong. And that you think that so many right-wing Americans are spineless cowards stinks of projection. You can't imagine fighting back, so no one will? Nonsense.
Need evidence? The Oathkeepers. They massed up, armed and ready, and stared down the feds over an unlawful land grab. Mandatory gun confiscation will be that x 1000. You don't know what you're talking about. Posted by: Apostate at October 05, 2015 10:42 PM (zaVwL) Or, perhaps, you are being a bit pollyannish? Cut off bank accounts, and demand the guns be turned over. Doesn't work? Get people fired because companies don't want to employee "terrorist nuts". And just keep tightening the screw: Utilities, taking of off-house assets, &c. Finally children's welfare agencies will get involved. They can do this without firing a shot, and would mean that a family either has to give in, or become revolutionaries. Most people are not in the position where they could become full time revolutionaries and still keep their families feed, clothed, sheltered, and safe. Yes, there are quite a few who will stand up. But I doubt that it'll all come down to police forces being whitled away by a few up-frond SWAT raids and political elites being picked off by assassination. Target a fe of the more outspoken gunners, make it look like they are X-tian militia monsters, and then get the MSM to convinve the public that the surrendering of their rights is necissary to protect them from these terrorist boogie-man. Throw in some urban thugs and things will get messy... and that protrayal will be determined by the gun-grabbing left. Posted by: The Half-Cocked Hat at October 05, 2015 10:57 PM (vBeA5) 631

There were a (very) few prior to the Civil War--such as Sherman--who saw right away what the war would be like, how long it would last, how fierce and bloody it would be. People thought he was crazy. I'm no prophet, so like Sherman I can only guess, but I'm guessing the Left will fold fairly quickly when confronted. I mean, look at their vision of the ideal man, The Modern Man. Does that Modern Man look like someone ready to do or die for his cause? Lets see them get all those easily confiscated illegal guns from the homies in Chicago and Baltimore first, where they are already illegal.
I suspect after they bury their dead and lick their wounds they might have second thoughts about coming after the legally owned guns from citizens waiting to see their patrols to give them an education in sniper and ambush training. I will be proactive if they indeed do want to ignore the Bill of Rights, I do not want to live in a slave society and I'm at that age where I don't give a shit about dying. @653
The ways of modern tyranny are more subtle and effective. They will make detailed disclosure of gun ownership mandatory in all healthcare, routine DMV registrations, etc so there will be de facto registration of all guns, under criminal penalty. Then you willl have to fill out your semi-weekly 30 page Federal Form XYZ-4677(i) detailing the current disposition, location, state of repair, serial number, magazine capacity, grip type etc of all firearms, along with the filing fee, and companion Federal Form ZZJ-1212 for all ammo. And of course you will need certification from your physician that you have never sought mental health counseling, are under no physical or mental disability, and certification from your State that you are engaged in no marital law proceedings, and have never been convicted of anything other than a parking fine (because we can't have "crazy criminals running around the children with guns" of course). Failing to file any of the forms on time, or required fees, or insurance surcharges will of course result in the immediate revocation of your "privilege" of gun ownership because "common sense regulation" of course, along with cancellation of your health insurance and revocation of your drivers license, and suspension of your car registration. Of course anyone attempting to go through a toll booth with a Federal Firearms suspended registation is guilty of a felony, which of course will debar you from firearm ownership for life, because common sense. I'm thinking we should tie the Second Amendment to the First. Start imprisoning the advocates of gun confiscation. Or just hang them.
I gotta laugh at the glowing reports of countries that ban guns. In fact, the US is a very safe country in comparison, so long as one excludes a few cities, all of which are gun-free. Posted by: skzion at October 06, 2015 11:23 AM (BVwtW) Processing 0.1, elapsed 0.1056 seconds. |
