Harry Reid claimed to be pro-Second Amendment for his whole career -- but now that he's retiring, there's no more reason to maintain that fiction:

I can remember two mass murders early in my lifetime: Richard Speck in Chicago and the UT Tower shooter. IIRC, at UT students ran to their cars, returned with rifles, and held the shooter in the tower until the cops finally ran up the steps to kill him. A tough tactical approach.

But here's the thing: They'll approach this incrementally. Suppose one of their first moves is a confiscatory tax on ammo -- a tax that, say, doubles the price.
Is that enough for anyone to take the path of the "constitutional remedy"? Probably not.
So then they'll double it again. And they'll declare anything more modern than a flintlock to be a class 3 device.

It all depends on how law enforcement and the military follow orders. I believe at this time they would refuse 'unlawful' orders ( unconstitutional ) and prevent such a terrible scenario. I believe that is one reason Obama and the left are trying to destroy the present military by forced retirements and mandatory social changes.

I'm no computer whiz, but I just added AdBlock Plus after spending a couple years fighting my computer, browser, etc. and swearing at it more times than I can admit.
Should have done this years ago. Working like a charm, browser works much faster now too.

The desire is questionable, the legality dubious, but the physical ability to confiscate 300 million or so private firearms is ridiculous.
I'm sure Vox has some method, like hanging a giant electro magnet from a blimp, and just sweeping it over the land to collect guns.

When I was in fourth grade, our private school put up one of those dumb Gun-Free Zone signs in the front lawn. I think some law or regulation was passed making them do it because I can remember the entire school staff grousing about it. My best friend even made up a hilarious "We are a drug-free-gun-free school zoooone" song about it.
When I was in sixth grade, we had to check weather stations around the school for a meteorology unit every morning, and one morning my best friend found a handgun hidden in the bushes. Because he went hunting with his dad, he know this was not something to mess around with, so he herded his partner into the school, ran to the secretary's office and told her to call the police. He then ran back to the guard the door to make sure no little kids got near the bush (we were a K-8 school and it wasn't uncommon for little ones to use the door by the seventh grade classroom). The police came, took the gun, interviewed all of us, and that was it. We never heard why the gun was there or who dropped it, but this was in the days before school shootings, so we really thought nothing of it.
And where was the bush that he found the gun in? About 15-20 yards from the Gun-Free Zone sign.

I've read of this. Very conflicting stories as to when the police arrived. Ranges from already on scene at time of shooting to much later. The arresting of 140+ people many of whom were not seen doing anything than being present. No charges on most of them.

Glad it turned out ok.
The alternative would be a pain generator type alarm.
I was house and dog sitting for a friend and accidently set off their alarm because I did not enter the code 2x.
When the alarm went off, the dog ran out of the house and I followed frantically texting my friend. As a result of a few minutes exposure, my ears rang the rest of the night.
Any alarm I buy will have to have that feature too.

I may or may not have told the tale of construction next to our old house in Floriduh. Some non-English speaking folks. I started hearing our water, near house being built, used. I came home from shopping hot and tired and mean as a snake. Was reading Internet, which possibly put me in bad mood (hi, Ace) and heard water running AGAIN. I went a bit loco and stomped outside and there was a guy washing his hair/face in hose. I started yapping about water/aqua in a cranky-pants voice and this cracka with an accent way worse than mine said, "I am sorry, Ma'am" and I just felt like hell as he had gotten sand in his eye or something and all the guys seemed nice, no matter their nationality. Ok. So all is well. I thought.
Minutes later I hear, or think I hear (without garage door coming up) someone freaking stealing crap out of my garage freezer. The nerve, don't take my food. I was in laundry room and could see a human's shadow under door pilfering through freezer. Wail, it was my dear husband, returning from a grocery shopping trip. I did not hear garage door open and when doorknob rattled I had a really big, almost full gallon of liquid detergent in one hand ready to hit the freezer thief in the head. I came very close to beaning husband whose immediate statement, post shock, was "This is why you do not have a handgun." pfft

Those corporate farms are mostly out well away from the city and surrounded by said bitter clingers. Who will guard the farms? The tractor drivers? Who will guard the travel routes? How will they protect all routes?

Those societies fall into two broad categories:
dictatorships (North Korea, China, Cuba, Russia until very recently), where governments and security forces retain a monopoly on firearms so as to keep the masses under control.
social hellholes, where criminals (and police) are well armed and ordinary citizens are helpless. Most of these have gun homicide rates way higher than the US (Jamaica, Mexico, Venezuela). Venezuela banned private gun ownership in 2012. Since then its gun homicide rate has increased more than 15 per cent. So that really worked.
In any case, eliminating the US's 350 million privately owned firearms is impossible. But the anti-gun bleaters don't really want to do that. In their world, action is not the point--posturing and talk are enough.

They can do this without firing a shot, and would mean that a family either has to give in, or become revolutionaries. Most people are not in the position where they could become full time revolutionaries and still keep their families feed, clothed, sheltered, and safe.
Yes, there are quite a few who will stand up. But I doubt that it'll all come down to police forces being whitled away by a few up-frond SWAT raids and political elites being picked off by assassination. Target a fe of the more outspoken gunners, make it look like they are X-tian militia monsters, and then get the MSM to convinve the public that the surrendering of their rights is necissary to protect them from these terrorist boogie-man. Throw in some urban thugs and things will get messy... and that protrayal will be determined by the gun-grabbing left.

I don't remember when I first saw the phrase "Cold Civil War". I think it was after the 2000 election, which the Left tried to steal but was thwarted.
The Cold Civil War has been going on for about 15 years now. It's only a matter of time until it turns hot.

Last few days I have been telling everyone who espouses the gun control line that if they want to do it, do it. Get your Senator/Rep to introduce an amendment to repeal the 2nd, and then get the states to ratify it. Their answers are always teh sadz stories.

The ways of modern tyranny are more subtle and effective.
They will make detailed disclosure of gun ownership mandatory in all healthcare, routine DMV registrations, etc so there will be de facto registration of all guns, under criminal penalty.
Then you willl have to fill out your semi-weekly 30 page Federal Form XYZ-4677(i) detailing the current disposition, location, state of repair, serial number, magazine capacity, grip type etc of all firearms, along with the filing fee, and companion Federal Form ZZJ-1212 for all ammo.
And of course you will need certification from your physician that you have never sought mental health counseling, are under no physical or mental disability, and certification from your State that you are engaged in no marital law proceedings, and have never been convicted of anything other than a parking fine (because we can't have "crazy criminals running around the children with guns" of course).
Failing to file any of the forms on time, or required fees, or insurance surcharges will of course result in the immediate revocation of your "privilege" of gun ownership because "common sense regulation" of course, along with cancellation of your health insurance and revocation of your drivers license, and suspension of your car registration. Of course anyone attempting to go through a toll booth with a Federal Firearms suspended registation is guilty of a felony, which of course will debar you from firearm ownership for life, because common sense.
