Bill to Defund Planned Parenthood, Get This, Fails in Senate, With 8 Republicans Voting "No"

Rand Paul voted no because the spending bill (it was a general spending bill) didn't cut government enough, and Tom Cotton voted against it because it didn't restore funding to the military.

Curious about the others.

Actually I'm not that curious.

Kelly Ayotte voted to fund Planned Parenthood, because of course she did.

You don't need tricky analysis, most of the time, to figure out why people make the choices they do. 90% of the time, there is no second-level strategic thinking going on; people vote to fund Planned Parenthood because they believe in funding Planned Parenthood.

Oh, and:

U.S. Senator Ben Sasse issued the following statement after voting against cloture on a continuing resolution:

"I reject more Washington false choices and empty gestures. Nebraskans know this city isn't serious. They did not send me here to participate in kabuki theater. They sent me here to bring conservative values and common sense to a broken city. Washington's false choice between 'fund it all' or 'shut the government down' is nonsense. This city stumbles from crisis to crisis by short-term budgeting. And that's no way to run a bait shop let alone the federal government.

I am committed to defunding Planned Parenthood and restoring Congress' constitutional power of the purse through a real debate about how we prioritize the federal government's most important duties. It's way past time we consider individual appropriations bills and have a serious conversation with the American people."

In my weak, peon, peasant mind, there is no doubt that this vote wasn't coordinated, as are most, if not all, of the legislation that is voted on, to give the officials the best opportunity to use the votes in their favor in the next election.

If they have to come out and defend their vote, even if they insist it is on principled ground, if we believe that, we prove a point that is a central tenant in the ruling class (I believe this in my heart) is that at the very least collectively, we are idiots and that there will always be enough people who like you, who will believe you and they will carry the day for you. Enough votes, enough idiots, you win. Easy peasy.

60 For those keeping score:

The US pays for babies to have their brains removed while their hearts are beating so that Eugenicists can sell the brains to amoral medical groups that can then sell medical advances (someday) to an aging population obsessed with immortality.

The so-called pro-life party can't muster the resolve to challenge even cutting the funding. One asshole wants more tanks instead, and another wants the Fed audited because lizard people Israel tinfoil.

The United States has collectively yawned at monstrous evil, not caring because the media has told them not to care. Pro-life groups see the videos as an opportunity to fund raise. Republicans see it as a way to get votes.

Even the Pope can't be roused to comment on this, preferring to talk about global warming and immigration. He is a coward.

Yes. and Mitch McConnell.

He tried to "play the game" and be a more "mainstream" GOPer then his old man.

I agree, it's fucked up. He never should have. Big blows to his "outsider" image. Which is why he's polling at 5% in NH and sending me 100 emails a day begging for money and asking me to come see him at an event at the gun range I go to.

I'm very disappointed, i had high hopes.

But anyways, I know how you feel about his foreign policy. No need to get in to it.

I'll agree that scummy men have benefited from abortion culture, especially the ones who prey on women, such as pimps and child-rapists.
However, Feminists are the one who really pushed this - not only did they want it so that women could have sex like men (many partners without burden of relationships), but they cut men out of the equation. They're the ones who have told men they have no say.

As I recall, there were various versions of how much time remained, but not a one of them exceeded 15 years. So, as of 2007, we were all terminally boned. Regret to inform. Funny, though, the Point Of No Return seems to be renewable and to extend into the future indefinitely.

291 At what point do we start calling 55 million aborted babies genocide? For a nation that claims the moral high ground, how does that happen? The very same women who would advocate for every woman to have an abortion would turn around and raise holy hell if some poor little palestinian baby was killed in an Israeli air raid, even though it was some jihadi's rocket that blew up on the pad. In a school yard. And it wasn't an Israeli air raid.

Let's face it, if any of the other Republicans can't knock Trump out -- then they are losers. We need a candidate who can fight and campaign hard.

The GOPe/Murdoch stratagem of waiting for Trump to screw-up is same sort of passive loser shit that suspends their campaign, crush some Union lies in Ohio, or doesn't stuff Candy Crawley in a box when she covers for a lying Obama.

44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

332 At this point I'm fine with pouring a stiff one and joining Grammie in her trumpet-waiting vigil. I find it hard to credit how corrupt, weak, craven, etc etc our government and leadership has become over the past few years. And it seems to be accelerating; the ruin proceeds faster and faster.

Islamic fundamentalists crucify people, set them on fire, reimpose slavery, and rape girls while proclaiming how good and wonderful they are for doing all these things. Muslims from around the world send them cash or go to help in their monstrousness. ISIS is the monstrous fruit of Islam, which stands exposed as the devil's delusion.

No one with power seems too terribly exercised about the existence of the most 100% pure, Platonic essence of evil state in centuries, and make only the most halfhearted efforts against it. (Excepting the Kurds, Iranians, and a few others who are either on the chopping block already or right next to ISIS).

Planned Parenthood is caught doing stuff so ghoulish and horrible that my opinion of them actually sank lower. That it could do so was a most curious and unwelcome discovery, like discovering something below the core of the Earth or north of the North Pole. Baby chop-shops and the odd survivor being abandoned to die while pitifully crying, blatant violations of the law, a more callous attitude than I'd expected...

....nothing to see here folks, move along, move along, can't defund this fine, fine organization. Women's health, you know. Freedom of choice, you know. The right circles are in favor, you know.

It's bad. Real bad. Going to get worse.

Sigh.

Nonsense. The "dark ages" (if there ever was such a time period) were certainly over by the time of Charlemagne. The medieval time period was a far more civilized time than what preceded it. The "Dark Ages" is mostly an anti-Christian secular myth that was invented during the so-called Enlightenment by people like Voltiare.

If all the aborted Black babies had gone to school, gotten jobs, and made their way into the American electorate, Blacks would be something beyond a permanent minority mired in poverty and self-pity. They would also do some of those "jobs Americans won't do" so there wouldn't be so many Hispanics of dubious legal residency about the place.

380 Rubio is the great white-hispanic GOPe hope, now. I think they've bailed on Yeb! and have decided Marco is their boy to quash the Trump/anti-GOPe insurgency.

They've put a lot of money into Bush. I don't see them changing horses while he is still in the race.

I think the conventional wisdom is still that Trump will fizzle, that Jeb can take the Mitt slot as the 'establishment' candidate and the rest rotate in the number one slot. Rubio is young, and wants to be the establishment darling. He can cut a deal and get the VP slot and position himself for a run someday.

The key to all of this is, odd as it sounds, Trump. He's the One, the anomaly that the system can't control. If he stays in, Jeb loses and it's not even close. He comes in fifth or sixth. If Trump does fade, then I think the Jeb playbook works and he is the nominee.

387 370After Rome fell, and more so after Khusro II and Mo went on their consecutive rampages, there really was a Dark Age in Western Europe.

It certainly didn't last 1000 years. People have a horrific nostalgia for the Roman Empire. The level of violence dropped precipitously during the medieval era. It was not unusual for Roman battles to result in 50-100k dead in one day. Try to find a medieval battle on that scale. Literacy increased. Slavery declined. Gladiatorial games and tolerance of pedophilia ended. Yep. Very backward time period.

389 After the Roman Empire matured and cleared the entire Mediterranean of piracy, trade flourished and everyone prospered. They had money for armies and roads and bureaucracy. This also allowed them to vastly increase trade with the Far East, and bring back disease and plagues from the eastern hellholes. The civilized cultures of the Med were cut in half in the course of a couple of hundred years. The Germanic tribes, not being involved in the trade and disease sharing continued to increase in numbers and strength until they overwhelmed the Romans.

Or so I have heard.

395 It was the (Christian) Roman Empire that ended the gladiatorial games - Honorius, in the West.
http://www.ancient.eu/gladiator/

The pedo stuff had gone out of fashion earlier.

A lot of the bad news came BACK when barbarians took over. Islam alone was responsible for a lot of it; the Vikings for the rest of it, and they did a lot of trading with each other. Dublin was founded by the Vikings precisely to nab cute redheads for Arab harems.

Yes the Mad Max scene of the 600s and 700s AD did not go on for 1000 years. But no they are not superior to the Rome of the 300s AD, nor even to the post-Roman Med of the 500s AD.

440 The Dark Ages didn't quite happen for a few generations in the former Western Empire. The new barbarian overlords were religious and ethnic minorities in a sea of Catholic and Roman peasantry and bourgeoisie. They governed with a light hand and aped the old Roman aristocracy when possible. Eventually the Eastern Empire decided to reclaim some territory and took Italy, Africa, and coastal Spain away from the barbarians, fully intending to keep them.

Two things happened in the mid-Sixth Century to wreck Europe and thwart Justinian the Great's dream of a reconstituted Mediterranean Empire. A volcanic eruption in Indonesia (probably good ol' Krakatau IIRC) altered Earth's weather for a few years, badly affecting harvests and causing famine. Famine helps spread epidemic disease, and the Great Plague of Justinian's later reign was a real doozy. At the least it reduced Europe and Mediterranean populations at the same level as the Black Death nearly 8 centuries later. Maybe it did more; statistics abruptly end or become inaccurate about this time.

The result of those two events was evident. Urban populations emptied into the countryside to escape the epidemic (up to 90% urban population drain across mid-6th century), and the survivors turned to farming in villages to feed themselves. Suddenly there was no tax base and no monetary economy, and the remnants of Roman rule crashed and burned just about everywhere in Europe.

Well for one I grew up on a farm, so I'm still a bit of a country boy. Inasmuch as DFW is a pretty good metro area, I've been looking for a chance to move on.

In my mind though the McKinney pool party incident was the last straw, and the last clue that I needed to get out of the city.

Social media allows the rabble-rousers to congregate most anywhere without warning. If you assume most of the pool goers were the Oak Cliff crowd, it's about 25 miles or so from there to McKinney.

That tells me that there is no truly safe place even in the DFW area if/when SHTF. So I'd rather be way early than too late in getting out of Dodge.

I'm about 30 minutes from work now, but I don't plan on staying there, and the drive is offset by the more pleasant and quieter surroundings.

471 here's my pope story for today:

I got to work a little earlier than usual. A cow-orker, who's usually the first one in the office, get in after me & immediately starts complaining about the traffic on his commute. I told him that I got an early start, so I wouldn't get caught up because of the pope's motorcade, 'cause, the pope is in the news & siht.

All morning I hear him complaining about being late because of the pope's motorcade.

Here's the kicker: "work" is in the far western 'burbs of Detroit (Rock City); actually closer to The Peoples' Rebublik of AnnArbor. The pope is in Capitol City. I still don't think he has figured it out.

The result of those two events was evident.
Urban populations emptied into the countryside to escape the epidemic
(up to 90% urban population drain across mid-6th century), and the
survivors turned to farming in villages to feed themselves. Suddenly
there was no tax base and no monetary economy, and the remnants of Roman
rule crashed and burned just about everywhere in Europe.
Posted by: exdem13 at September 24, 2015 09:48 PM (ry4ab)

Jesus Huerta de Soto, the Spanish economist has stated that in his estimation it was a combination of the need to buy political favor, which lead to the free bread for the poor social welfare programs, that drove both the increases of taxes on the Romans and conquered countries, and the importation of very cheap wheat from Egypt.
Both of those forced workers and farmers to escape the major cities and go back to the country, where they could either farm subsistence and not have anything the tax gatherers could take or grow cash crops like wine because farming wheat was a losing proposition in the face of subsidized bread
.
This reduced the tax base below what was necessary for the social welfare programs and other things the government wanted to do, so they adultered the currency and suffered from inflation ... and started all over again, because fewer people could afford bread, and the cost of buying votes just went up.

The problem with focusing on cash crops (and cash industry like high-end pottery and other technologies) is that if you can make it cheaply and export it you get a lot of money, but when your markets go away (Britain abandoned for example) you loose your income and may not have the tech on hand to do those things you used to buy and order out on from other areas. So, you lose things like pottery technologies. People go back to subsistence because before anything you need to get enough calories for the kiddies and yourself.

I would link the article, but Huerta de Soto's website was hacked by an Algerian terrorist group and has not been fixed yet.

They also listed a price lice they had translated from the women auctions. Highest price goes to 1 - 9 year old girls. They go for about $170. Next down is 10 - 20 year olds, who go for $130 or so. If you're low on cash, you can pick up a 40-50 year old for just a few bucks.

The donor class and media are the lower orders of the new ruling class. Businesses have joined up in exchange for guaranteed profit and legal protection from competition in the form of tax brakes and gamed regulations, and the media has sold its objectivity and honesty for the a seat at the kiddie table of the power feast.
We've already seen the new aristocracy penetrate the business world, with how politicians go from office to sitting on boards of several companies in their retirement. And of course, former politicians can always make media appearances or get their own shows...
It's incestuous, and the three factions have joined cause against all others.

Speaker Boner? I saw him weeping again with the Pope. Is he mentally ill
or does he have some severe hormone imbalance? There's something
seriously wrong there that needs to be addressed. Not even a menopausal

human being like him.

He just has trouble living with the fact that he's a complete sellout. So after a long day of weeping on the Hill, he goes home every night to cry himself to sleep on top of the pile of money that was his 30 pieces of silver.

People project onto this Pope whatever they want to see.

Meanwhile, the Pope hasn't really changed anything from the last couple of Popes.

What people forget is that this Pope is committed to the "poor". Expect to see the Pope try to secure payment at the upcoming "climate summit" for the poor, 3rd World nations, even if there is not sweeping treaty. I believe his commitment to the poor in unflinching, but his commitment to the "Clinate Change" agenda is thin.

563 The reforms of Diocletian in the late 3rd century bound the Roman rural farming populace to the land, creating serfs, and bound farmers' and craftsmen's families to their father's current trade. (Merchants escaped this process, which might indicate Roman contempt for trade or the result of some merchants' "donations" to Diocletian and Constantine.) Diocletian probably intended this to end the bacaude, rebellious peasant communes in Gaul who had repeatedly expelled imperial tax collectors and other officials for about a century.

In addition all commoners bound to trade and land were disarmed and forbidden to fight unless they joined the legions...or what were left of them. By the time Constantine decided to go Christian, the pick of Roman armies were composed of hired mercenary bands serving for pay and privileges. A century later the Roman levies were a token force with little incentive to fight, and the barbarians were doing the real fighting...and more often than not ruling entire sections of territory granted them as part of their terms of service. The serfs and craftsmen had no ability to rise against barbarians, and soon lost the incentive since the barbarians levied lighter taxes and fought other intruding barbarian hordes and imperial armies. (Hard to tell the two apart some times....)

After the famine-and-plague combo sank what was left of Romanitas, the remaining serfs and craftsmen were largely in small villages, vulnerable and easy to control by a barbarian lord's warband. The tendency of the late Roman Empire to have nobles create large landed rural estates farmed by serfs meant that in many places the barbarian lords had all their organizational work done for them.

582 I won't argue with you about the collapse of the Roman Empire, the analysis I read started further back. I would point out that although the trades were looked down upon, they had power and in their organization in trade associations had a good level of influence on the Senate: this is of course during the late Republic and early Empire.

The argument is not that the bread and circuses and debasement of the currency made the Republic fail and the Empire collapse, but that these things created the pre-conditions that made failure on that level possible.

The comments I made about losing tech through overspecialization are, of course, my own.

604 THe horror these Yazidi girls are subjected to is unspeakable. They are the worst of the worst to the Muslims, pagans, subhumans, and a good Muslim may do anything he likes with them.

In the DM story, one young girl, 11, was strapped, naked, to the hood of a vehicle by her "owner" as he drove around into battle. A hood ornament and a shield.

One girl told of how she prayed she would be raped by her owner/captor because he wasn't as rough. You see, every day, he'd strip her and several others down naked, *smell them* in some ritual to decide who he wanted, then let his bodyguards have at the others that day.

She prayed the head knocker would choose her because he wouldn't beat and hurt as bad the bodyguards.

There is a network of freelance "commando" types who specialize in going in and rescuing these girls. It's just a shame that's the only hope these pure girls have.

626 OK, trolling is an art. It is more than just wiping your ass on the curtains at your little sister's place because you want to see her get mad because you can out-punch her.
It takes thought, interest, and understanding of what people believe - as well as do it because you want to have power over people who can't make you shut up.

I mean, troll, good start, and all you got the last bit OK, you clearly have a venue (sorry "some place") where you yammer and act like the violent screamers at the Adult Disabled Foster Care House, but they have the brains of a potato.

You should strive higher.

631 TR, I have this philosophy I got from my dad. Never water after the 4th of July.
It means you don't have to mow after the 1st of August and you can spot spray the weeds and not worry about killing the grass.

I won't argue with you about the collapse of the Roman Empire, the
analysis I read started further back. I would point out that although
the trades were looked down upon, they had power and in their
organization in trade associations had a good level of influence on the
Senate: this is of course during the late Republic and early Empire.

The
argument is not that the bread and circuses and debasement of the
currency made the Republic fail and the Empire collapse, but that these
things created the pre-conditions that made failure on that level
possible.

The comments I made about losing tech through overspecialization are, of course, my own.
------------
You have adequately described the conditions that undermined the Imperial Roman economy in the second half of the 2nd century going into the 3rd century, and repeated several times in the revolving-door period. The Empire did a lot of damage to itself that was just starting to get repaired when the bottom fell out coinciding with the arrival of the Visigoths. By the time of Constantine the re-divided Empires were evolving regional economies that were decently strong but were increasingly self-sufficient, with decreasing imports and exports. The specialties you mention endured longer than you might think, but they drastically shrank for a while. Trading ventures continued, but were rarer and more arduous until the Medieval Warm Period eased things some. (Anglo-Saxon law allowed a merchant to rise to the status of thegn if he made three voyages abroad at his own expense.)

Even then though the provincial economies and towns remained intact and had some good decades as well as bad, and retained the intellectual and skill base required to maintain a Roman standard of living. The old school lesson that everyone abruptly went Full Retard after the last Western Emperor (a puppet boy) was removed from power was completely wrong and taught with a sneering bias. It was amazing to me to learn ultimately how long the attempts to hold back the Darkness were made by the general populace and their governors, and how often they were successful.
