She says this on a podcast with Fox colleague Chris Stirewalt.
Dana: Do you think any of them run as a third party? Stirewalt: No, Paul has been a loyal foot soldier for Mitch McConnell, he ain't gonna do that. And Ted Cruz ain't gonna do that. Could Trump still -- he's not gonna get -- Dana: I don't think it would be Trump. Stirewalt: Who would it be? Dana: I'm gonna hold my cards. She advertised this on The Five and gave a big Chessire Cat grin like she's not speculating, like she knows something. So: Who? Well, first of all, Perino is obviously very tapped into the Bush camp. And Bush would have the money (presumably) to mount a third party campaign. Given that this comes down to money, it could be she's talking about Romney, though the initial question about any of them (that is, the candidates) running third party suggests she doesn't mean Romney. Maybe she was just being misleading there. Could she mean Bush? Could she possibly mean that Bush is considering a third party run? Open thread. I know, terrible week of blogging. The guys that pushed those guys on us are the guys that support Rubio, Christie, Bush, Kasich. Collectively about 25% of the primary voters. Generously 10% of the country. They insist upon total allegiance from anyone on their right, yet someone like a 100 year old Thad Cochran losing is too much to bear. Joe Miller triggers a write in campaign.
GOP are exactly what they accuse others of being, and they have about 10% of the population truly in their corner. Very narrow appeal.

Yeah, and for that reason I don't think it's going to happen. Bernie has been the happy Democrat in all but name for most of his career--happy to give Democrats the cover that they're not *that* far left, and happy to pull them that far left.
The only caveat is, Bernie is older than the hills. If he were to go out in a blaze of socialist glory, his last real chance was four years ago, but he couldn't do that against secret socialist squirrel. Against Hillary, though? I guess it's possible.

If you do a quick survey of ballot laws regarding independent runs, you would have to gain ballot access in 50 states via petitions--it appears most require petitions to be submitted about 3 months before the election so July/August or so. Ross Perot announced his run in February 1992 for the November election. Rand Paul might be able to do so if he went to the Libertarian party which already has ballot access in most if not all state. That is, assuming, that Rand wants to end his current political career as a Senator, etc. He sure as hell would not get elected by a third party run.

Jeb Bush would probably have to run independent which means petition drives etc. from scratch (don't see the Greens nor the Libertarians nominating him). Given no cred as a outsider which is what third parties want, what exactly would he run on? Doing a Murkowski is one thing in Alaska but difficult to carry out nationwide as Jeb is not the incumbent unlike Murkowski.
My guess if that happens even GOP establishmentarians in party hierarchies would have to denounce such a candidacy or destroy the party. Think GOP establishment reluctantly siding with unpopular Taft rather than Roosevelt in 1912-this more or less finished Roosevelt in the GOP for influence. They would stab the GOP nominee in the back ala Goldwater rather than risk open revolt. On a lesser note, John Anderson's political career was toast post 1980 other than as media invitee to trash Reagan.
The Gilmores, Pataki, even Christie, would probably gain little traction and destroy any hopes of a national career.

You're over thinking it. A 3rd party run is never about winning. It's about making someone else lose. Even if you get on a handful of ballots in key states and siphon off 3-5% from a Trump or a Cruz or a Walker, you've done your job.

Libertarian party is the only third party I know of that is a legit party in most states -- but here's the thing. I forget the exact rules, but if you don't hold x number of seats or x % of the vote, most states DQ that party from appearing on the ballot next election.

Before that, candidates were picked in the proverbial "smoke filled back rooms" and states did not have restrictive laws on who could and could not be on the ballot.
Thus the Republican Party was able to win the presidency within, what? 10 years after being formed? And they killed the Whigs in the process.
That wasn't lost on the D's and R's in the early 1900s when they began to move to a primary process.

Maybe or maybe not. We called the cops on our neighbors as the suspicion was very strong that they had a meth lab operation and were distributing out of the house. Nice neighborhood that had people driving up at all hours of the day and night - spends 5 minutes inside and then roar out of there.
Cops pulled a raid on the house and they had enough chemicals for their operation to blow the whole block to kingdom come. The worst, there were children living there that were being neglected (no food, etc.) and put in real danger daily.
No, I don't feel dickish at all.

The Jeb support feels a lot like how the MSM and pundits were all pro-McCain because he was their kind of Republican - the kind that loved to come on their show and badmouth his fellow Republicans. That sort of crap happens a lot and I think it's because there's no actual requirements to be a coroner. You can have some general doctor become a coroner even though they don't have the training to do it correctly.Forensic pathology is what you want, but there are no national requirements that a coroner be one. At least that's how it used to be.

Although I am frankly at the point that forming a new party is a given. You know if Trump really wanted to screw the GOP he should just use his money and contacts to form a new political party, and then invite the entire Tea Party, and numerous conservatives like Jeff Sessions, Ted Cruz, Sarah Palin, and anyone else etc. to join...then step out of the way, or make it into a reality TV series, and wait for his statue to be erected in DC. The party would be patriotic, populist, financially responsible, free market, but would owe nothing to crony capitalist, internationalist, and wall street.
This would put the donor class in a no win position and force them to accept the new powers that be in the new party, OR beg the Democrats to let them in which will cause the Democrats to break up if they do let them in.

When Robert Altman was making the movie, he wanted a really sappy, maudlin, over-the-top depressive song for the "ritual suicide" scene. He took all sorts of pitches from a whole bunch of professional songwriters, but none of these quite fit his vision.
Then, he got to thinking, "Hey... I have a thirteen-year-old son! Nobody can do 'ridiculously mopey' like a boy that age."
So, he asked his son to try writing a song, and the kid basically just farted out Suicide Is Painless.
Of course, that song was just what Altman was looking for. And, since the kid got the songwriting credit, and the TV show used a version of that song as its theme, the kid actually made more money from M*A*S*H* than his famous father did.

She'll be on tomorrow and I had absolutely no influence on her whatsoever since my sister moved to Nebraska with her 12 years ago.
If I had spoken with her I would have told her that if she didn't know the final jeopardy question that she should write "who are 3 people who have never been in my kitchen". Alas, I never got the chance. It was pretty cool though. My sister (her mom) told me tonight that it was extremely difficult not to tell everyone that she won. She only had 15 minutes to change and film the next episode. She still wouldn't tell me how she did. We'll see tomorrow.

Another great TV show with a great theme song... The Fall Guy!
That also has an interesting story behind it. Stunt men were sort of the cool thing of the moment in 1980. TV producer Glen A. Larson was looking for a way to capitalize on that. One day, he had lunch with a musician friend of his. I forget the musician's name, but he was the frontman of a band called The Diamonds. He sang the latest song he was working on, called The Unknown Stuntman, for Larson.
Larson basically just exclaimed, "Oh, you have to go somewhere with me right frickin' now!" The two of them went straight to ABC headquarters and burst in on a meeting of the network's board of directors. Larson had his friend sing that song for the executives. When he was finished, Larson said, "That's my pitch. That's my new show."
The executives all just nodded at each other and told Larson, "Okay, we're greenlighting that."
And that's how the Fall Guy became a TV show.

Hammer, thanks for the Bantam/Jeep links so I didn't have to own up to it. FWIW, the Mutts were only treacherous when they had one foot on pavement and one in the dirt, which apparently was often. Set back FWIS by one whole generation.

The old M38's were reissued on a temp basis, whilst everyone took lessons on how to drive the things.
Bad design, poorly executed, and unsuited for their job.

In the later TV movie specials (which were pretty good), there was one scene at the end of one, and this close to Burr's death, they had him give Della some very expensive gift, after some gag gift, and he and Della kissed.
I wouldn't admit this, but something sort of got in my eye at that moment. A long damn time.
I think everyone knew it, but I don't think they let out Burr was playing for the other team until after his death.

The original MB series jeeps had a projected combat life of 90 days.
A testimony to how well they were built is the vast number that survived the war and lasted through years of civilian life, mostly in Europe.
We had one Dad bought as surplus in 1947, and still had until came back from service in 67.

They tried to line up EG Marshall against the character, in "The Defenders," but it missed classic status. Marshall was a "legitimate actor." He had the premiere role in "Waiting for Godot," which may say something about the legal system.

My dad drove a deuce from LeHavre to Metz, Austria. Took seven months, but, hey, there were people shooting at him, and they were pretty good at it.
I think it had a lot more to do with the 88's than the driveline components.

Heh. My Jeep is a mutt, in that it is of mixed heritage, not a Mutt as in M151. Sorry for the confusion. Many, many parts interchange freely between the Willys and Ford built military Jeeps, and the earlier civvie models.

Andycanuck, last November Mrs Old Blue and I decided to clean out the extra bowling balls. We took 13 high performance bowling balls down to one of our favorite centers and donated to their youth bowling program. They were gone in fifteen minutes. This was all equipment that we had spent between 180 and 200 dollars on (drilled).
Bowling is my passion. I'm semi good at it compared to the pros, but I love the game.

One of Stewart's correspondents was making a report on The Five in the form of one of those "one-woman shows". While talking about the good-girl / bad-boy between Dana Perino and Greg Gutfeld, she showed a clip of Gutfeld and Beckel standing by a grill, watching a grillmaster at work.
Beckel said something like, "Looks like Greg would fit on that grill pretty well. How long would it take to cook him?" (it was a big grill, and Gutfeld is exactly a tall man).
Gutfeld responded with, "That would be the best meat you ever tasted, Bob!"
Beckel shot back with, "I know. Dana told me."

Yep. No apologies, either. When it's finished, it will be a fun ride that resembles a WWII-era Willys enough to fool the plebes, but not anyone who knows better. It came to me with the Ford engine in it, rebuilt. Probably somebody got a "depot rebuild" Jeep engine from Princess Auto, back in the '50's. I'm told the Ford-script oil pan, with skid plate, is worth some bucks to the restorers of letter-perfect Ford-built Jeeps.

Soy sauce has nearly enough salt in it. 1/4 cup soy, couple spoons fish sauce, additional 2 teaspoons salt and 1/4 cup water, 2 teaspoons lime juice 4 garlic cloves minced and 1/4 onion sliced thin.. in the fridge for 4 hours in a gallon baggie. turn it a couple times.

I have a '65 Olds Delta 88, but i think the embossed valve covers you want are on the older engines. This car has a 425 in it. If they are the covers you want, I'd be happy to part with them, because my projected use for the car is as a donor for a hot rod, and I could happily live with after-market valve covers in that use. But I don't think these covers are embossed at all, right? Not home right now, so I can't check.
