My sister and I saw it to the end. We didn't leave the gravesite till the vault was sealed. We placed Bells of Ireland on her grave.

When my mother died, and people were asked to speak during the service, there was a long silence, and then I got up to speak about her. I knew what I wanted to say, but it seemed like another person was saying it.
She is in a better place, and her struggle in this world is over. It is so hard to accept a loss of someone loved, but I am sure that your aunt would not want you to grieve about her. But none of us can help the pain and loss in our hearts when something like this happens.

The dedicated people of hospice are the true angels. I didn't think we would make it through the last 4 days of her life. My mom and I were with her 24 hours a day. The concern they showed my mom was touching. They tried so hard to keep my aunt out of pain but even the enormous amounts of morphine only could do so much

My father was a heavy smoker until he was 40. Double pneumonia for the 2nd time made him stop. Unfortunately the damage was done. Opportunistic infections further damaged his lungs to the point it put a significant strain on his heart. It killed him 30 years later, but his last 10 years were not pleasant. He had been a very active guy, but his health issues significantly curtailed that.
We used to go fishing in the mountains. He couldn't do that anymore due his breathing issues.
He loved high power matches, but I pulled targets for him because I feared the strain might kill him.
I was willing to give up an organ if it would have kept him around longer. Love and miss you dad.

Father in law was a heavy smoker, he quit about 20 years ago at age 60, but it has taken its toll. He has emphyzema, so he has to lug oxygen around now, and if he gets a cold, it can lead to pnuemonia.
Me? I was a heavy dipper for about 16 years, and I hope I didn't cause any damage, and am so glad I quit about 20 years ago.

Also the astrology / astronomy thing was kind of bullshit, since it was a bullshit question -- one of those is a science and one is not. And the question was not about the science, it was about bullshit pseudo pagan spiritual "life influencing". So that was more of a reading comprehension trick question than a science question.

We used to go fishing in the mountains. He couldn't do that anymore due his breathing issues.
He loved high power matches, but I pulled targets for him because I feared the strain might kill him.

My father got very, very lucky.
He was a heavy smoker, but one Spring he came down ill. It developed into sepsis that spread from his lungs to his blood. They had to put him in an induced coma and pump out all the gunk in his lungs. Even then, one of the lungs collapsed. His digestive system shut down and his renal system came *this* close to shutting down... at one point they told my Mother to "start making arrangements". He had a 1 in 10 chance of living, but due to experimental drugs, experimental treatment, and that fact that he had a healthy heart, he managed to survive.
I still remember when I came to visit and they told me that they were starting to take him out of the coma, and that he could respond to basic stimulus, I immediately grabbed his hand and he grabbed back.

My problem with House of Cards, West Wing, ect. is how the McGuffin had devoured the show. Not just simplified, but the moral universe is flattened into a single metric. Characters looking and sounding important and relevant, but never being those things. A tunnel-vision that no screenwriter could afford to have.

I am in a quandary about this series. I just can't bring myself to root against the Brewers, but OTOH, we're not going anywhere, and I'd rather see the Bucs take the division than the Cards. 'Cause you know if it comes down to the Wild Card game, your boys will see Arrieta....
So if you win the rest of the regular season games AFTER you're done with playing the Crew and the Cards lose all of their upcoming games, well, that would be ideal

I was living on the west coast and I had stayed up really late, so when the planes hit at 8am or so in NY, it was only 5am or so on the west.
People still thought that it was a little plane that accidentally flew into the building, and that is when I went to bed.
When I woke up everything had changed. it was shocking.

Thank God actually. That was one of the songs/things in life that followed me around like a dark cloud when I was a senior in high school. (I had a lot of dark clouds at that time. Bullies, my parents fighting, loneliness, the girl I had a crush on hating my guts...)

Not bad, but they can't play their best songs anymore. Too fast for Glen and too high for Halford. I saw them last fall and it was a good show, but no Electric Eye, Painkiller, etc. They played all the boring songs like Love Bites, Turbo Lover, Heading Out to the Highway etc. Victim of Changes was awesome and Halford hit the long high note, though.

Jesus' visit to earth wasn't to prove God's ability. Right after the fall of mankind, God had promised Adam and Eve that He would provide a remedy for sin and death. Jesus paid the price for sin and provided the way to eternal life.

When I caught "you know who" pawing through my financial records, I closed down a number of accounts I'd had for years because a quick glance at their internet security showed they were lacking. This includes some of the bigs, like Vanguard. But I kept my USAA account. Those folks are tight.

If you look at his personal writings, they're full of examples of those relatives loaning him money, and him then feeling obligated to act nice to them and whine at them about his financial situation until they decided to forgive that debt. I was lucky to be in a mechanized unit as opposed to a light one.
Most females that serve in male-dominated MOSs such as Ordnance will tell you that most females will SUCK ASS in a light infantry unit where they have to hump 70+ lbs of gear on foot.
Easy for a chick to say that they can handle combat when they're riding around in a humvee or a MRAP, with a crew-served weapon at the ready.
Bit different at an outpost where one has to do constant foot patrols.

So I came next, and they couldn't do a thing for me. Just not the kinds of assets they're actuaried for, I suppose. But then I have "rich guy insurance" (note, not claiming rich-guy status, just a good agent), so my rates on this and that aren't really hurting me, just a lot of different coverages. That add up.
Like a rational solid citizen (read "fool") I have all the autos, the houses and buildings, and extra liabilities come due once a year instead of scattered easy installments. That way I can easily see what is what, but that one bill does cause a sharp intake of breath even when you know it's coming. If nothing else, it's a good encouragement to shop rates every so often.
I would say, if you qualify, by all means get a quote from USAA. They are competitive for most risks, and you'll feel good about doing business there, as opposed to, say, Progressive for instance. Chances are good they'll save you money, but it is not guaranteed.

I have a guy at work who is the love child of Frank Burns and Cliff Clavin. He's a blowhard who knows nothing - NOTHING! - but never stops sharing his "knowledge" with you.
He's a jackass who runs up to every new employee and starts acting like the "vet" who's gonna tell 'em how everything works. (I call this their "official disorientation.")
He applied to be a supervisor and was basically laughed off.
Then they advanced a nice young lad instead.
"Burns/Clavin" was so pissed that he stomped around all day, bitching to everyone... and finally had "an attack" and was taken away on a fucking stretcher!
A delightful end to an otherwise ugly week.

You'll also note, not that you stuck around to read any responses, the 'daily' part of the briefing. By mid September, he would have received 240 roughly such daily briefings, and more depending on how they brief incoming presidents (+ 60) and party nominees (+100 or so?).
Thus asserting Bush knew, is along the lines of, if I told you I had read the every verse of the Bible, you expecting me to have committed to memory the name of the third king after Hezekiah.

Not bad for 6 weeks on location.

You have to remember, this is Ace's place.....and, as such, it is run on principles of Christian forgiveness and redemption the likes of which you won't find at other blogs. This is especially ironic in that Ace portrays himself as a secular atheist. Then, again, he's also managed to ban himself on his own blog.
And it's not like I have never been drunk here or struck-out in anger. When you feel "at-home", you sometimes forget the politeness expected of guests.
If The Powers That Be have let you back on, I hold no grudge. Be welcome and jape with us. The management, staff, and cobs are open to honest repentance and redemption. If you've snuck back in.....it's coming, and the sooner the better -- because you have not demonstrated such repentance and redemption.

It's actually worse than that -- some comments are in acecomments.mu.nu, some are in minx.cc, and some are at port 1080. When Joffen's sister Sarah cornered me, I was very impressed by the way she navigated through the intentionally half-broken wreckage of the Ace archives. I wish she could have stayed and healed along with us -- there could have been a great deal of support -- but I also understand why she could not.

My local PBS station just finished re-airing Ken Burns "The Civil War" in its original form - 7 episodes in 5 nights. I'm as disgusted as anyone with what's going on today, but - watching the story of the war 150 years ago - gives one pause.
If there's anyone who hasn't seen this series - grab your kids and spouse and watch it over the course of five nights or a week. Immerse yourselves in the story. You'll be proud to be an American.
