So when the high point of your Saturday is a chorizo omelette at IHOP for a late dinner, are you doing it right?

Not sure about the flea market / gun show, but that was a really good omelette.

5 Good Morning Morons. Today is Sunday, September 06, 2015. On this day in 1620 the Pilgrims set sail from Plymouth, England for the new world. They originally wanted to land in the Carolinas but wound up in MA instead. But they did not turn around when they realized their error because they were out of beer.

8 The European Union invited all those Syrian Regugees to come to their countries but the lands they have to cross are complaining about being swamped. Mark my words, a large portion of them will wind up in the US. After all Emma Lazarus wrote a poem which people mistakenly think is part of the Statue of Liberty. Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free So naturally Syrian refugees think they have a free range right to come to the US.

That KY clerk who refused to issue marriage licenses to gay couples is still in the news.

A Kentucky clerk jailed for refusing to issue marriage licenses asserted that any ones that are issued without her authority Friday to gay couples in Rowan County are void and not worth the paper they are written on because she didn't approve them, her attorney said.

What they failed to note is that these licenses are contrary to KY law. The following is a list of restricted marriages in KY.

Prohibited and Restricted Marriages:

Marriages between persons who are nearer of kin to each other by blood, than second cousins.

Marriages between first cousins.

Marriages with a person mentally incompetent.

Marriages where there is a husband or wife living, from whom the person marrying has not been divorced.

Marriages not solemnized or contracted in the presence of an authorized person or society.

Same sex marriages.

Common law marriages.

Proxy marriages.

So same sex marriages are illegal in KY and nobody has legal authority to issue a same sex marriage license. The jailed clerk was following KY law which IS still in effect despite a ruling by an out of State judge.

All true. Also, this is bigger than a same sex marriage ruling; the judge is forcing a citizen to comply with his opinion or be jailed.

What we're seeing is a gradual breakdown in the rule of law. For years, the Obama administration has ignored laws they didn't want to enforce. Now judges are jailing people when no law has been broken. What will we do when a judge disagrees with home schooling, or gun ownership, or the amount of tax you paid?

29 Charee Stanley converted to Islam two years a go, she was recently fired by Express Jet for failing to do her job which in this case was to serve alcohol to a passenger. Stanley, through her attorney has filed a complaint with the EEOC, her Attorney said in a statement "No one should have to choose between their careers and religion," Hmm, does this only apply to Muslims, I wonder if their is another high profile case out there that this should apply to, something like reasonable accommodation. I wonder if Stanley was saintly prior to her conversion, I mean Kim Davis has been married 4 times so that must disqualify her from being a christian right?

It's not a "rule" of the Senate or something procedural/parliamentarian. It is Constitutional law that has been broken. And it's not legal. But they are lawless and have lawless judges to uphold the lawlessness.

The GOP is not stupid. They are collaborating with this. Bob Corker is every bit as guilty of treason with this deal as Obama.

They could have easily declared it a treaty, voted by 2/3 present in the Senate and be done with it. But they broke the law to a) get in on the halal pork and/or b) not bee called "racist" for opposing Obama.

McConnell can at this very moment, declare Corker-Menendez irrelevant, define Obama's "agreement" as a treaty and then hold the 2/3 vote and kill it. He can also suspend the filibuster rule to prevent Reid from screwing around.

He won't. The fix is in. Half the rulers want America and Israel destroyed, the other half wants to make a buck off of it.

IIRC, there were reports in the news about a month ago that Obama had agreed to take something like 18k or 19k Syrian "refugees" and settle them in Ohio. The majority of them are Muslim (of course), and some people were objecting. Of course, that just means that Obama will probably now volunteer to take a lot more of them (especially since none of them will ever be living near him or his precious snowflakes). Of course, our intrepid media will do everything in its power to squelch news of this getting out to the raaaaaacist American public until it's too late for anybody to stop it from happening. (And if you object to the U.S. taking in tens of thousands, or even hundreds of thousands, of Syrian Muslims, then you're obviously just an evil raaaaaacist Islamophobe who wants to see more dead Syrian infants washing up on Europe's shores!)

________________________

When you choose to convert to a religion that is incompatible with your job duties, you DO have to choose, don't you? If Charee had worked in a pork processing factory before her conversion, she would have had to choose to either remain in her job and violate her religious beliefs, or quit her job. She couldn't very well demand that her employer stop processing pork in order to accommodate her, could she?

Part of the job duties that Charee signed on for as a flight attendant involve serving alcohol. If she no longer is willing to do that, for whatever reason, then she is no longer qualified for the job of flight attendant. Her employer should not have to change the way it does business simply to accommodate her. What if Charee decides she can't serve male passengers now, being a humble and modest Muslim female flight attendant. Is the airline supposed to create a new "female customers only" flight attendant job for her? It's idiotic. If an employee can't -- or won't -- perform the job duties they were hired to perform, the employer should be able to fire them without being subjected to hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal fees to defend stupid lawsuits.

90 Pamela Gellar has an interesting article up on her site documenting the many conflicting stories told by the father of the Syrian child shown dead on the beach in all those media photos.

If you were wondering how the dad managed to survive the desperate, harrowing sea journey from "war-ravaged Syria" in such good condition, while his wife and kids drowned, the answer is: the dad wasn't ever on the boat with them (despite his lies to the contrary), and they weren't fleeing "war-ravaged Syria" in the first place.

The entire family had been living -- safely -- as Syrian war refugees in Turkey for the past three years. They were not "fleeing war-torn Syria" or ISIS or starvation or anything like that. They were safe in Turkey, and had been for three years. But they wanted to live in Canada (where the welfare benefits are so much better). So their Canadian relatives told them to send the wife and kids ahead (without the dad), so they could get registered as "refugees" in some EU nation. From there, they could eventually apply for "refugee" status in Canada. That's why the dad wasn't on the boat. He was waiting in Turkey for the wife and kids to get "refugee" status, then he'd apply later to join them (because it's CRUEL to SEPARATE FAMILIES!!!!)

BTW, the media is not reporting much on what is really going on currently with the Syrian Muslim "refugees" in Hungary. Those "refugees" are angry -- but not because they are being denied food or shelter or refugee status in Hungary. No, they don't want to be refugees in Hungary -- because once they get registered there, they're stuck there with Hungary's welfare benefits and Hungary's refugee policies. The Syrian "refugees" want the right to travel through Hungary to get to other, richer EU nations like Austria and Germany, where they can register as refugees and get more generous welfare benefits and more rights to bring even more relatives over from their native countries.

I don't want to minimize the tragedy of those poor dead children who drowned while their parents were scheming to get to richer countries. Those children were innocent, and deserve our sympathy and prayers. But the truth about what is going on in these "refugee" scams is important, and it is not being told by our corrupt media or our corrupt government.

95 Willowed on yesterday's EMT was a question from Spin and Murky as to whether there is a cartridge that bears the same relationship to the .44 magnum that the .38 special bears to the .357 magnum.

Yes, indeed there is. It is called, not surprisingly, the .44 special. The .44 special is not that common but it can be found. The cartridge gained some notoriety from being used by David Berkowitz, the "Son of Sam" serial killer. Berkowitz used it in a "bulldog" revolver, a short barreled revolver with a large caliber. The design is actually, not a bad idea for a defensive revolver. Those revolvers usually only have five or six shots so you probably want them as effective as possible. For serial killers, probably anything will do when they are sneaking up and ambushing innocent victims from close range.

In any event, as pointed out in the post, the .44 magnum is no fun to shoot. I agree and I'll throw in the .454 Casul, the .500 Smith and Wesson and all the other cartridges that are more powerful than the .44 magnum. I am fond of the .45 model 1911 but I don't really like anything that kicks more than that.

So the answer is that you can buy .44 special ammunition to shoot in your .44 magnum pistol if you don't want to go the the trouble of handloading .44 magnum cases with less powder to get a more manageable level of recoil.

They are great fun. You can buy an unaltered one for serious collectors prices or you can buy one that was imported in the 1950s and modified to take .45 ACP ammunition in half moon or full moon clips. The poor man's speed loader.

I have taught a number of people who had never fired a pistol before to shoot with a WW I era Webley converted to .45ACP. The two and a half pounds of steel keeps the felt recoil down to a moderate level and helps give the new shooter confidence that they can handle even a .45 caliber pistol and hit a silhouette target at 5 yards. I never have first time shooter shoot at any range beyond that and 3 yards is better because I am trying to teach basic skills, give confidence and overcome a lifetime of misinformation from TV, movies and bad writers.

Could be along the same lines as the NAVY WITH Challenge coins.

First time a saw one was about midway through my career.
Some guy comes up holding this thing and explains that it's a tradition going back for years.

Seemed odd cause at that point, I was about fifteen years into steaming ships around, playing "Target" for Bubbleheads, and carting Marines around in Navy Equipment, not being a total stranger to EM Clubs, nor CPO Clubs, and frequently meeting large groups of other Sailors from other fleet assets in various bars around the world.

Could have knocked me over with a feather to hear that we had been doing this coin collecting thing for years.

Posted by: Ricardo Kill at September 06, 2015 08:43 AM (4Egsf)"

I am not entirely sure what you mean but both the .44 magnum and .44 special shoot the same diameter bullet (which is actually more like .43 inch in diameter). The .44 magnum cartridge case is the same as a .44 special case but a quarter inch longer, just like the .357 magnum case is the same as a .38 special case but a quarter inch longer.

Since I am already blathering on, the .38 special is called that because it was a quarter inch longer than the cartridge it was derived from, the .38 Army cartridge that got such a bad reputation during the Spanish American War. The Muslim Juramentados would prepare themselves for martyrdom by imbibing stimulants and then burst out of the jungle into an American patrol and start laying about with a machete. Obviously this was bad for morale. There were multiple reports of these Muslims being shot six times in the chest and proceeding to kill before they expired themselves from exsanguination. The soldiers were eventually supplied with revolvers chambered for the old .45 long colt cartridge which had been the previous Army standard and, the story goes, a single .45 slug would put the Muslims down.

Anyway, the .38 Army cartridge case was lengthened by a quarter inch and it was found to be an accurate, moderate recoiling and sufficiently powerful cartridge that was adopted by most American police departments in the 1920s and 1930s and it remained the overwhelming choice for US police departments until the 1980s.
I should also point out for the sake of completeness that there is a cartridge called the .357 maximum that has a cartridge case that is a quarter inch longer than the .357 magnum, in case you feel that your wrist does not get enough punishment from the magnum cartridge.

Another bit of safety trivia is that many civilian revolvers were made in the 1890s chambered for the .38 Army cartridge. These tend to have chambers in the cylinders that are bored straight through. If you look at the cylinder of a modern .38 or .357 magnum revolver, you will see that the chambers all have a shoulder where the bore of the chamber gets a little bit narrower. This shoulder prevents a .357 magnum cartridge from loading all the way into a .38 special gun. The old revolvers made for the much less powerful .38 Army cartridge usually did not have that shoulder. That means that you can probably load the gun with .357 magnum cartridges which turns a shootable antique into a six shot hand grenade. I recommend against doing that.
