Also check and see if you can get a price match vs. Amazon. Watch out for model #s, the stores like to get special cheaper versions of the TVs made for themselves so they don't have to price match.

But they are so cheap, it's like Kleenex. Use once, throw away. Why buy top-tier quality in a product that will be obsolete before it wears out? Buy the cheap-ass TV, and when it cacks out, get a newer cheap-ass TV with more features for even less money.
Disclaimer: I own an old Sanyo tube-type color TV, last run on 9/11. Yeah, that 9/11. I cut down my antenna a couple of years later. Felled it like an old tree, I did.

This was my thinking when I purchased my latest laptop. My old one was an expensive one and after 3 years it was soooooooooo slowwww.
I bought the cheapest one I could find at Walmart, and in 2 years I will buy the next latest and greatest cheapo one I can find. Why spend $600 on one (or more) and it be obsolete in 3 years again?

That is an option, but I'd expect a TV to at least get 5 years of use. For that route, I'd definitely go HD (1080p). 4K is the newest hype, but there's no content for it yet.
Oh, and all the "special features" like SmartTV are pretty lame. Just get a ChromeCast for Netflix/Youtube integration. ($25)

I agree..., but it takes money to collect money. If the net available to actually expend is greater than other methods, well, there it is.
WW would never be able to raise the revenues they do by sending mailers. I would rather that there were fewer expenses, but I'm not certain that the net would be higher.

Short answer: No. And it would be a very bad idea to even try.
I remember reading a compendium of short sci-fi stories and one of them was about a kid who got a "start-up" kit to make their own small star. The kid got impatient and made a few mistakes, and the star "grew" to get the shape of a football instead of a sphere. In an effort to correct the mistake, the kid tried to extinguish the star with water. Instead of killing the star, the star condensed into an ever-growing dense spool of "thread". By the end of the story, this thread had ruptured the containment field of the kit and ended up destroying the world.
Moral of the story is - read the damn instructions.

It's not just "many historicals". His given name was Friedrich Wilhelm Ernst Paulus. No "von". He was the son of a schoolteacher. And he is not referred to as "von Paulus" in any major history of the period.
Again, he was a mediocre general, but smart enough not to be tricked into committing suicide. And he actually did survive Soviet captivity, so there's that as well.

Though I would screen Blazing Saddles for them. My parents actually took me to see Blazing Saddles in its initial theatrical release -- which would have been 1974/75 -- when I would have been 12 or 13. Given the film's R rating, I was probably the youngest person in the theater. Thought it was hilarious.
Then, again, I was the kid that had "that discussion" with my dad as follows: "We have to talk. About sex." "*deer in headlights gaze* What can I help you out with?" "I get all the stuff about genitalia, intromission, and ejaculation.....but I've got to ask....why?" "Why?" "It seems like a lot of mess and bother....why would people do this?" [mind you, I was probably 8-years-old at the time]

I'm pretty good & my very ill younger brother managed, at long last, to get SSDI & transferred to nursing home in Massachusetts & has called me six times, at the most, since mid August. He's 33-35 miles away from me & his son is CNA at hospital if he has an emergency. Two so far that woke me in middle of night. Labor Day & Columbus Day. I was expecting call on Thanksgiving.
His sin is 24 & w/in walking distance to both. I'm perturbed that he doesn't call me all the time & I've only visited him once & it doesn't count because he was in ICU & on ventilator & knocked out.

Well, who doesn't love Mr. Magoo? But I agree with you about the 1951 Alastair Sim version. Of the approximately 100 different screen productions, it is closest to the text and thus picks up most of Dickens' moral and ethical points, where most others have wandered far afield and completely missed them. Also, in addition to Sim, there were quite a few excellent supporting actors, including Hermione Baddeley, Peter Bull and Michael Hordern. And a very young Patrick MacNee.
I have it on DVD and watch it a couple of times each season. Sadly, it's hardly ever on TV.

I think I scared my dad. On the one hand, I had a relentless intellectual curiosity that had me reading the Marquis de Sade at 14....on the other hand, I was biologically slow to develop in many ways -- appreciating women only in my later teens and exhibiting facial/chest hair in my later 20's....and attempting to grow a beard even now (in my 50s) makes me look like I've got radiation sickness.

It doesn't happen. Yeah, once in a while you'll see a mixed group. But foreign Asian students stick together and have absolutely nothing to do with outsiders.

Whereas a Spaniard would just fall into the generic gaijin bin.
I could see a Japanese company hiring a Westerner over a comparable Korean or Chinese person. Even baka gaijin-types have a better reputation than nearby Asian neighbors. Plus non-Asian gaijin don't count for 'inter-Asian play' which eliminates one possible area of conflict.

They know damn well they're not Chinese but they're pretty pleased to be Asian. I'm surprised to hear that the Japanese (who, as everyone agrees, migrated to Japan from the Korean peninsula) are disdaining their Asianity.
(I could maybe see that from the Ainu, who are aboriginal, but not from the Japanese.)

eh I think it really depends.
here's what i've noticed from the instructor's point of view...
you'll generally have groups of asian stick together, but always with their own nationality. so chinese students with chinese students, vietnamese students with vietnamese students, etc.
but then you will also find asian students who are basically totally westernized and you couldn't tell that they were any different from any other student. so they blend in with any crowd really. and in my experience the ones like that are most likely to be korean and japanese students.

Maybe my view is skewed. I'm half-Filipino, a people essentially regarded in that hemisphere as being basically sub-human. What I can definitely say is that in my experience, both within the US and in Asia, is that to other Asians, I am slightly more preferable than a "round eye," but less preferable than any other Asian. The fact that I am mixed (as opposed to "pure" Filipino, whatever the hell that may be) drops me in the Asian rankings.

Oh, brother! There are several famous cases of japanese archeologists spoiling sites to avoid uncomfortable conclusions of secondary settlers coming from the korean peninsula. Or the Jpn government closing up sites for no reason at all.

Gravity wells are a problem, though.
I always figured Venus would be the ideal site for trade and resupply in a Solar System empire. It's more consistently closer to the centre of things than is Earth. And it's not TOO close like Mercury.
The 75 degree heat at the cloud-layer would be pretty awful, true, but some decent air-conditioning might help, and there's more margin-for-error than Mars gives you.

IIRC, at a slightly higher altitude it drops to Earthlike temperate temperatures. But that would require larger "balloons".
Still, it's a lot easier to deal with than vacuum and lack of sufficient gravity, as one would get on the Moon or Mars.

In my experience there is no cross-Asian courtesy between Japanese and other Asian people. Because of the histories of the nearby countries with each other and Japan any interactions between them are more likely to be fraught with political sensitivities and negative stereotypes. Whereas as a Westerner you're just a generic foreigner without all the baggage of an Asian neighbor.

The vast majority of my experience with this was while in the Navy and Cali National Guard. While in the Navy, almost all the native Filipinos wanted absolutely nothing to do with me (there was one exception, and he's a Master Chief now). During time in Asian ports, I was demonstrably looked down upon by other Asians (Thailand and Singapore). When I was serving as a liaison with the JMSDF I was treated like absolute shit by the Japanese. My first Guard unit was regionally focused on the Far East, which means "lots of Koreans in the Battalion." Even there, I was looked upon as "the help;" neither my rank nor my competence was a factor. Again, there was one exception; a fellow (Korean) Sergeant explained to me what the situation was.

One problem with that theory. We're talking about the Sony Pictures Entertainment in Culver City, CA. What used to be known as Columbia Pictures. I've worked on that lot in jobs that took me all over. You'd never guess that it was owned by a Japanese parent if you didn't know the Sony name.

All of the information made public points strongly to the penetration happening at the Culver City studios. It is also notable that all of the data dumps have been solely concerned with that portion of SPE. I rather doubt that lot has an exclusive on sandal worthy data.
Sony Computer Entertainment America, the video game division, has dev studios fairly close by in Santa Monica and elsewhere in LA County, and ripping off files from there of unreleased games could very damaging but nothing of the sort has even been hinted at.

The leaked emails of the two execs. Not that it was their emails, but the content. Content that in every other nation means shit, but in the US brought all kinds of media attention on the execs. Why would anyone in China give a shit what these execs thought movies that Obama would attend would be?

It's Sony. One of the major Japanese corporations. Knock them down a few pegs so that Hyundai or LG can move up the ladder of respect.

Thing is, there are publication that would be very interested in scandalous info coming out of other Sony divisions. What wouldn't get covered on Entertainment Tonight or the Daily Show would get coverage in EE Times, just to name one.
I simply haven't seen anything to suggest that the penetration happened anywhere outside of SPE, which was ripe for such an attack.

Come now. The men probably died in some linear order, so you may have been able to tell where the battle lines had stood, perhaps where they had been shot by distant arrow storms, and they fell closely enough to be in heaps that made someone think of furrows in a field. Common enough observation from the days of linear tactics.
And perhaps as a kid, to make mud mounds, one has to add water, or it might be something from baking: balk flour for rolling with a pin by piling it up in a ridge, then adding water to get things started for rolling. If one did not have a mixing bowl, but just a flat board. Think if one was making biscuits, with individual heaps and mounds being piled up then having liquid added, then rolled and kneaded.

The Rumanians were the ones directly in the path of the Soviet offensive, flanked by Italians and Hungarians to the north. All ran away far enough and fast enough to avoid being surrounded and captured.
You are correct about the Bulgarians, by the way. Although part of the Axis, they never declared war on the Soviet Union and never sent troops to the eastern front. They were more concerned with improving their local situation vis-a-vis the Greeks and Rumanians.
If you are looking for recommendations for reading about the eastern front at the operational level, I suggest the U.S. Army's 1955 Historical Study (Department of the Army Pamphlet No. 20-261a) for the period 1940-1942 (includes pre-war planning) and its companion volume, written by Earl Ziemke, published by the University Press of the Pacific, entitled simply Stalingrad to Berlin. Another good single-volume work is Barbarossa, by Alan Clark. Hitler Moves East, by Paul Carell, is also interesting, but at a much more tactical level.

It's a pretty nice device, especially for running emulators. It handles every console up to about the year 1999. The Dreamcast emulator is the most recent platform and that is pretty early in its development, with essentially nothing playing 100% correctly. But it may get much better over time. Besides, a big portion of the Dreamcast library has native Android ports.
This is like the Neo-Geo of handhelds. Powerful but a bit pricey. Fortunately, the price is way down if you know where to look. (Yes, the current model will likely be replaced sometime in 2015 but if you get it cheap enough the value is there for a good time to come.) GameStop is currently selling it for $140 and thanks to some credits I had gathering dust it was closer to $100. The 64 GB card was a $20 Black Friday promo. Plus plenty of my existing Android purchases will run on this and recognize the gamepad inputs.
