From the MFM's perspective, they didn't "screw up" their coverage of Ferguson. Their coverage was all that they could have hoped for -- angry riots, burning buildings in the the night, grief-stricken parents of the fallen Gentle Giant, hobbled law enforcement, and endless opportunities for moralistic hand-wringing and other leftist drivel. It was a Night of Dreams for them.

Tazers?!? Really? The nicest thing they should have used was a german shepard. My choice would have been a 12 gauge, but I'm antiquated. Next thing will be, "if the cop was from the neighborhood, he would have known Michael and would have just let him go home. Then the po po could have gone to his house and talked to his mommy...yadda yadda blah blah blah. We need more community policing, and federal jobs programs. And a community organizer to makes us feel better. And midnight basketball." And a bunch of overtaxed taxpayers to pay for it all.

Rachel Maddow is an idiot. Practically speaking you're unlikely to get a perjury conviction anyway. Lawyer stands up says "well that's what my client believes he saw." Lawyer sits down. Case over. (Maybe there's some experts called in to discuss how shitty eye witness testimony actually is.) Why waste the time and stoke the fires. At least Dewing is responding to comments. Although, the response seems to be: "you're stupid for thinking that, and therefore, shut up".
I'll give him this: McCain overplayed "Joe The Plumber," big time. I remember that debate, and damn did he hammer that. It seemed like EVERY question could be brought around to Joe the Plumber. But that's MCCAIN, not the party at large, and McCain's an idiot, so... Similarly, I take the point on Carson, just a little less so. Every time someone pulls up the fact that a (potential) candidate is not experienced as a politician or lawyer (i.e., they haven't learned to lie convincingly in public so as to advance their clients' fortunes), I start to wonder how we decided that THAT particular occupation was the sine qua non of office preparation. But he doesn't seem to have corresponded (or followed) Holly Fisher. Not surprising, that. All she did was post a picture, and, when hit by the lefties, in the tradition of Breitbart, she doubled down and fired back. A podcast decided she'd be good to have on, and now she's a conservative voice on the net. She ain't running for office, she's just agitating for the cause, as far as I can tell. As far as Palin is concerned... I have the feeling that Dewing is one of those who watched as the left descended on Wasilla, and sued her into bankruptcy, and thought tsk, tsk, but SOME people just shouldn't be in politics... In other words, she was good enough to use to advance the fortunes of An Experienced And Wise Politician Of Moderate Temperament, but once THAT purpose had been served, well, that snowbilly (rightfully) should have gone back to her cabin in the wilderness and left politics to her betters. So, Dewing, shut up. Go jerk off in your ivory tower to the picture of some policy wonk and weep in your heart as you wonder why milquetoast just doesn't inspire like it used to... Thanks. I'll be safe, riots tend to be in relatively small areas, especially in a place as spread out as St. Louis. The key is to just stay on this side of the highway, know your exit routes in case things get hairy and keep an eye out for "lone wolves" (or roving groups of idiots) that stumble into your area. I'll say this: I live in a surprisingly diverse area. Sure it's a majority white by a huge margin, so is the country. (The local elementary school is statistically more diverse than the nation. And I don't think that has to do with private schooling because the private school down the road isn't all that big.) So I had to go to Aldi's last night to get some Milk and bread to tide us over until the end of the holidays. I saw, whites, blacks, Hispanics, a few yarmulke wearing Jewish kids, all being perfectly polite. Carts colliding with "excuse me" being bandied about. Honestly, I didn't expect that, I expected tension, and anger. What there was was people just trying to get on with their day. They are not being prosecuted because the DA, The Mayor, and the Gov are all Democrats.
Also because, since their testimony is about what they saw, and decent lawyer would tell them to say, "I saw what I saw. They say I couldn't have seen what I saw, so maybe I'm mistaken- but I'm not a liar." And, poof, no conviction for perjury (unless dirt comes out that they're Republicans, maybe). This is actually a tool of the Left which we need to remove. Since *at least* George W Bush (and really probably prior to that), the Left has been conflating "mistaken" or "wrong" with "lying." And they do it on purpose- because when Republicans protest "no, he wasn't lying, he was just wrong," then the Left knows that (at least with the LIVs and their Base) they can come out and say exactly the same thing the next time its one of their politicians being accused of lying. Maddowesque self-congratulatory snark, I'm sure. There's lied, and there's faulty memory and different interpretation of events. The people who admitted they never saw what they said they saw lied. Someone can interpret different things differently, that's called opinion. Like the difference with Maddow being either deliberately obtuse or naturally obtuse. There were various stages of my confusion with this case. But one thing remained clear. From day 1 I told my wife "Eyewitness testimony in cop shootings is entirely useless." It cuts both ways too. Cop supporters will always see an aggressive thug who had to be stopped. "Fuck the police" types will always see a wild and crazy cop on a execution spree. They aren't "lying" in any sense (well some of them are, but that's a different point.) They just see what they want to see. Sure occasionally you'll get someone who calls them as they see them, but that's rare. (And usually it's a cynical person who hates both cops and whoever got shot.) In an ideal world the media would be noting this, because it's so flipping obvious. But apparently not worth reporting. Well the one thing we do have going for this area is it's solidly middle to upper class. Yes the families in the apartments may be barely scraping by, but they scrape by. Which is more than I can say for some areas that are around here. And those people know they live in a good area, and they work to stay here. When you cling to something like that it makes you less likely to tear it all down. When an area is somewhere you're just passing through, you're more inclined to burn it. Perhaps. But I think Nixon is just a coward who figured he'd wait it out rather than being "the governor who called in the guard." But it got worse than he expected. And the mayor and police chief turned on him (saying they were calling out for help.) What I want to know is, if Nixon wouldn't return the mayor or the police chief's calls (as Kinder states) and no one could find him, at what point can Kinder say "He's unreachable, I get to step in." Way OT but just something interesting I read this morning. How did Jews get to be the scapegoats of the western world? It might have started long ago. After the Jewish War of AD 69-70, Jews weren't real popular with the Romans. Then when accounts of Jesus's crucifixion were written or presented as plays, they had to sugarcoat Pontius Pilate's role because pissing off the Romans in those days was suboptimal. So if the Romans were above reproach that left the Jews.

On-again, off-again plans for the world's largest gold and copper mine could be back on again, after a federal judge in Alaska issued a preliminary injunction blocking the Environmental Protection Agency from its ongoing efforts to bury the project. That mine was being blocked illegally and the EPA agent doing the blocking took it on the lam. But it still took a court order to unblock it. That is how bad outr current government is. But I think Nixon is just a coward who figured he'd wait it out rather than being "the governor who called in the guard."
My problem with that theory is that everyone knew that's what the guard was there for. They'd been moved to the area specifically for that purpose, so why not just deploy them prior to the Grand Jury's announcement, and then they're there to "keep the peace" no matter what the decision is? Honestly, it's exactly what I would have done, with an explanation of "Hey, when all this started there was rioting and looting. I fully expect everyone to be peaceful at this time, but it would be irresponsible of me, as Governor, to ignore the possibility of more violence." Heck, he could even thrown in veiled references to "outside agitators" and The Patriarchy if he wanted. Posted by: AllenG (DedicatedTenther) with a new job at November 26, 2014 09:52 AM (kff5f) 321

So this happened.
Obama: 'I Just Took An Action To Change The Law' DC: http://tinyurl.com/q43n8kz The White House has argued that President Obama's executive amnesty order last week was made well within the existing law. But in remarks in Chicago tonight, President Obama went off script and admitted that in fact he unilaterally made changes to the law. President Obama made the admission after getting heckled for several minutes by immigration protesters. "Now, you're absolutely right that there have been significant numbers of deportations. That's true. But what you are not paying attention to is the fact that I just took an action to change the law." And then the applause. Which is the whole point. I found those videos of the 92 riots interesting. I hadn't seen them. The roof Koreans were wonderful. I thought it was funny that the reporters considered them a threat to the cops and fireman. Someone legally armed and protecting their property would never be a threat. I also liked the reporter running after the looters, asking questions. She asked one "Are you ashamed?" It would be nice if the press could remind looters that they are being thieves.

Posted by: AllenG (DedicatedTenther) with a new job at November 26, 2014 09:52 AM (kff5f) No I think you really underestimate how cowardly Nixon is. When all this started, he waited several days hoping it would blow over. Then when it finally became obvious he needed to be involved, he showed up once then decamped to St. Charles (Wheldon Springs) and never got any closer than that again. And from what I gather reading news reports, it's not clear here's anywhere near here or in contact with anyone after his last press conference. Yes, you're applying logic, but I'm not sure logic works when you're dealing with such a spineless nitwit. As for the original order for the guard, it was only for 700 troops, spread out among the whole metro area. (Many it seems in the city of St. Louis?) It's the ultimate cowardly act: sign the order early, hope it deters people run away. Typical Nixon. So if your Gov. of Missouri and you tell the National Guard to assemble to protect the city of Ferguson, what are you willing to have them do in order to keep the peace? Are they going to be armed? Do they have the authority to fire on people? Deadly force, or just rubber bullets? Will the National Guard carry out the orders? Will you risk making another Kent State? If people want to criticize Palin - do it. Don't do it by lumping them in with a criticism of Joe the Plumber and Ben Carson. But just as Palin bashers think the pro-Palin people are too myopic in their defense of Palin, those bashers are the same. They never give Palin any credit she is rightly due. She still moves voters, her endorsement matters a lot more than most politicians. And on policy, she has been more often right about Obama than others. The bashers may not want her - their prerogative - but to ignore her influence is to bury your head in the sand. Posted by: SH at November 26, 2014 10:04 AM (gmeXX) 368

At the risk of sounding like Constaza Defense, IIRC the US average height for adult men has gone down as the proportion of immigrants from countries with shorter average heights *cough* has risen. And since we're being flooded with kids from those countries, it would be not unlogical for the average height of children to be smaller. Posted by: artisanal 'ette at November 26, 2014 09:47 AM (IXrOn) Our legal system has been nurtured by the left and our society no longer has the balls to do what needs to be done to deal with people like that. Even if there are good officers out there who have the dignity to care about a civilized society and enforcement of the rule of law, they have little to back them up. The Wilson case never should have never even been presented to a grand jury. And watch what else happens to Wilson. His ordeal is not over with yet. Holder will do his best to get his pound of white flesh. I think he's talked about how he actually does have Aspberger's -- so he tends to rub even his allies the wrong way. But he's impressively fearless. Only downside is he gets so pissed at the snipers on the Respectable Right that he spends half his time fighting with them. We started touting high-carb diets in the 70s
-- High-carb diets haven't made us shorter - importing tens of millions of Mexicans and Chinese has. The decline in avg American's height is pretty much entirely due to changes in the ethnic make-up of America. The tallest people on the planet are germanic and slavic tribes. I think Denmark is current #1. The Balkans tend to be tall bastards, too. Importing the Irish and Italians didn't exactly boost our avg height either. When America was the tallest was when it was mainly importing germanic tribes like the English, Germans, Scandis, etc. Until we discover genetic engineering for height, America will never be the tallest again. Funny but a number of people commented that it was written for no other reason than to bash Ben Carson. Human nature is consistent.
---- Well maybe. I have no clue why people seem to hate him so much. He isn't a real threat to the GOP, but what is wrong with having a well respected doctor take a public stand against Obamacare? Shouldn't we encourage people like him to get into politics? Sure maybe he is getting ahead of himself by going straight to the top, but so what? He does what I do, too, turns the turkey over. I roast it breast down for an hour on 400, then turn it down to 250 for 2 more hours, then flip it (stuffed and all, it's not hard) and crank the oven up to 400 for one more hour or so, depending on the size of the bird (I check with instant read thermometer in the breast and under the thigh). Local riot report: On the drive home last night, there appeared to be three deceased protesters in the road. The two-day-old bloated raccoon carcass seems to have migrated from the center line to just off the west side of the road. The day-old possum carcass in the middle of our lane, fortunately, was not bloated, so we could clear it. The squirrel was new, still fresh, had that "I'm just sleeping" look. These riots are vicious. It's just blood and gore and death out there I tell you. Paws up, don't goosh! or something.

Does anyone but the most die hard supporter of Obama thank that Obama is his brother's keeper on TG-that he's going to spend the afternoon handing out dinners at the soup kitchen and on the way home pick up homeless man from the streets of DC to bring to dinner.
Yes, there are lots of wonderful people who volunteer at the soup kitchen on TG. However, as someone who's familiar with soup kitchens (as in regularly volunteering with one in the past) it's not on TG that they need help. Lots of people volunteer them. It's at other times of the year-particularly summer when they need help. It's the same with food pantries. However, all that presupposes that everybody's on the same page... something that is not a given, IMO. That's why I discount the possibility of such an event; that IMHO is a last-grasp 'end game' gambit. Without a decent justification for such an event, pulling that trigger... it would be the final signal for 'Game On' against the Proggies. (This also presupposes all the other tools getting thrown on the table... control of the internet; ordered arrests of 'troublesome people'; and a demand for mandatory gun registration.) I've already run most of the game theory (as have others) on all this... ...IMO, it would all stand, or fall, in about 72 hrs. Posted by: CPT. Charles at November 26, 2014 10:40 AM (/mTq0) 508

People in the developed world are way taller than they used to be (on average). Yeah, eating well changes things. The WWII stereotype Japanese was a small man. The Japanese I went to B-school with in the 80s averaged taller than me (6'1"). And if you are a 6'1" American, try visiting the Mayflower and imagine fitting into those bunks for a couple of months. Posted by: Bandersnatch at November 26, 2014 09:59 AM (JtwS4) As I recall, the Japanese Army officers in WWII were on average, several inches shorter than their own troops. Turns out that almost all of the officer class attended the Jap military schools for children, which would starve the kids as part of the program of turning them into toughened savages. Also had the effect of stunting their growth. Posted by: IllTemperedCur at November 26, 2014 11:03 AM (TIIx5) 543
My thoughts on Ferguson and their difficulties with having White PoPo tending to their crime needs:
1. How about more than 12% of you show up to vote to decide who runs things. 2. Encourage your young Black men and women to pursue a career in law enforcement or if none of yours are up to the challenge--ADVERTISE and hire for DIVERSITY--pay a premium if necessary, or pay off school loans or whatever. 3. Teach your younguns that during an encounter with an armed person with a badge who has the legal authority to kill your dumb @ss if you attack them--be polite, say Yes/No sir/ma'am and comply instantly with their instructions. During the interactions with the police for three speeding tickets I have received over many years of driving: I was uber polite, kept my hands where they could be seen, and complied with instructions and dayum, I got a ticket, but, I lived. Quick end run on the TG gun conversations.
The gunowner announces that should the Ferguson protestors (these or the next ones, because you know there will be a next one) choose to target your anti-gun relatives' city/neighborhood, you will respect their beliefs by not offering to shelter them in your home because you wouldn't dream of asking them to be in the vicinity of a gun. . Americans should not favor other Americans over foreigners, Obama demanded. "Sometimes we get attached to our particular tribe, our particular race, our particular religion, and then we start treating other folks differently... that, sometimes, has been a bottleneck to how we think about immigration," he said in the face of many polls showing rising opposition to his immigration agenda.
