MSM Talking Point: Repeated endlessly, "Someone wrote her speech!"

Someone wrote Obambi's speech, too, Hoss. Didn't see you pointing that out then.

Britt Hume directly challenged Nina Eaton and Mort Kondracke on their repetition of this mantra.

OOOOH!!! Obama's statement says in the first paragraph she delivered the speech well, but it was written by George Bush's old speechwriter -- Gee, I wonder if that's why Mort and Nina and everyone at MSNBC were already repeating that line?

Hey, MSM: Your lines were written by Barack Obama's spokesman.

Am I lying?

BROKAW: Is explaining to Keith Olbermann what just ran over him.

"Well, as we've all been saying, or at least I've been saying, this is a very competent woman..."

Or words to that effect at the end. The point is Brokaw had to correct "we" to "I" as he realized that the people he's talking to have done nothing but belittle Palin since she was announced.

TNR: A "focus group" -- really just the guy sitting around with some moderate friends as well as liberal friends -- concludes Palin's speech was "alarmingly" strong.

Several moderate-Democrat friends of mine have been emailing--few if any would ever vote for McCain--but all agree that Palin was very strong. The more liberal among them are a little panicked.
I completely misjudged how negative she would be. Her lines about Obama were brutally cutting and possibly over the top in places. But she's a far better messenger than an angry white man.

That's Michael Crowley, who's an asshole, but I forget why.

Eh. What's it matter.

32 Anyone else watch the MSNBC coverage? There was a classic Olbermann moment when he was talking with Chris Matthews after the Palin speech. Matthews was largely complimentary, and described Palin fairly nicely. As they cut away to another commentator (David Gregory maybe?), Olbermann snuck in a cheap shot by comparing her to Tracy Flick from the movie Election. As Matthews's mic was being cut off, you could hear him in the background say "That's not my view" or something to that effect. I hope someone got that on Tivo.

So my wife has NEVER voted. As conservative as I am and other people in my family, she has never ever voted once or even registered to vote. I told her 4 years ago I was going to register her. She got pissed.

I'm downstairs wrapping up office work and head over to the main room to watch Sarah. When it was over wife comes downstairs and says So what did you think? I said about what? Her speech... Then we talked about it for a couple of minutes..

Then came the shocker - she said I want to register to vote I want to vote for her.
That is what's going on in lots of little places around the country in places where pollsters don't know to go to. Those votes I hope are going to add up and beat all the dead people votes, illegal alien votes, bought votes and so on... There's something going on people..... It's Palinmania!!!!

I think the speech was a little too scripted. I got the feeling that she has a lot of humor and humility, but the speech didn't reflect that so much. I blame it on the time frame, and the content that needed packed into her speech.

She has a provincial attitude, and a charming personality, and anybody with half a wit will realize she's tough as nails. In the debate, I fully expect her to pound on Biden with a pillow-case full of door-knobs. What would be truly sweet is if the election is transformed into a debate between Palin as VP and Obama as POTUS.

I think Gov. Palin is imminently qualified as VP and provisionaly qualified as President.

Obama is qualified for going door to door for the city handing out warnings to unlicensed dog-owners.

317 Look guys I don't care who wrote the speech. Some of it was Sarah--that line about the only difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull is the lipstick is one she used in Alaska a long time ago.
What I was looking at is how she delivered what she had to say. Sure, it's a friendly audience and she could have read the Yellow Pages from Hairdressers to Heating and Air Conditioning Contractors and the crowd would have whooped it up.
She did a lot better than that. She's had to take a lot of crap over the last few days from such leading lights as Andrew Sullivan etc. She had poise, she had some charm, showed confidence etc.
She showed an ability to go out and sell a speech--just like Sinatra could go out and sell a song. Obama got off to a rollicking good start at the 2004 Democratic Convention by delivering and "selling" a speech. So she's got an ability to make partisan material sing--and that's a good thing. It helped Obama--although he claims to be post partisan--and it will help her.
What I particularly enjoyed was her ability to sink a knife into her opponent with a smile and to get away with it. That's one of the jobs of the Vice President, and it looks like she's got some real ability there. This howling about her demeaning Obama is to laugh. Obama tried the same thing last week with McCain--damning him with faint praise as a war hero and an honorable man, but saying "he just doesn't get it'. Accurate--maybe in Obama's view--demeaning--yer damn straight.
Those of you with less violent gag reflexes than I turned to watch MSMBC and the Olbermaniac after the speech. Apparently Brokaw had to hose down Olberman a bit. I couldn't go that way, so turned to CNN and Wolf Blitzer and the crew. They looked like they'd been taken out into the back alley and hit with a blackjack up alongside their collective heads. The lady in the turquoise blouse looked physically ill. The fox was in the henhouse and these old birds were all aflutter.
There'll be some good days and some bad days for both Obama-Biden and McCain-Palin down the road. But Governor Palin got by the first test and looked pretty good. More popcorn should be ordered by all. We'll have some fun.
