The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

And so it's going to be very hard in our society to ever build a cathedral again, much less to repair them, because we don't believe in what they represented. And it's ironic, because we don't like the past. We are at war with the past. We tear down monuments. We don't build cathedrals. We erase names. We say to Father Serra or Christopher Columbus, you don't live up to our standards of race, class, and gender, moral superiority. Shame on you. Victor Davis Hanson

Quote II

“This is a dangerous felon who should not have weapons around children and families. Today's arrest by the FBI indicates clearly that the rule of law should be in the hands of trained law enforcement officials, not armed vigilantes.” New Mexico Attorney General Hector Balderas

Quote III

“Ilmar Omar is crying she’s receiving death threats. They’re no death threats. There just some people saying something.” Lynne Patton

Quote IV

"Today, the solitary inventor, tinkering in his shop, has been over shadowed by task forces of scientists in laboratories and testing fields. In the same fashion, the free university, historically the fountainhead of free ideas and scientific discovery, has experienced a revolution in the conduct of research. Partly because of the huge costs involved, a government contract becomes virtually a substitute for intellectual curiosity. For every old blackboard there are now hundreds of new electronic computers. President Dwight D. Eisenhower

Quote V

“Holding Mark Zuckerberg and other top Facebook executives personally at fault and liable for further wrongdoing would send a powerful message to business leaders across the country: You will pay a hefty price for skirting the law and deceiving consumers,” Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.)

The Religion of Pieces strikes again. Nothing says says coward more than attacking churches.

COLOMBO (Reuters) – Easter Day bomb blasts at three Sri Lankan churches and four hotels killed 138 people and wounded more than 400, hospital and police officials said, following a lull in major attacks since the end of the civil war 10 years ago.

The explosions, some of which officials said were suicide bomb attacks, led to an immediate clampdown, with the government declaring a curfew and blocking access to most major social media and messaging sites.

It was unclear when the curfew would be lifted.

What do Hillary Clinton and Mitt Romney have in common? Besides being carpet baggers? Also they will never be President of The United States of America. And Romney is a sorry loser as well. And former Gov. Mike Huckabee calls him out.

So does President Trump.

So f*cking what..........Republicans spend money at Trump properties.

In one of the most scorching tweets he’s ever written, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee slammed failed 2012 Republican presidential nominee Sen. Mitt Romney on Friday for having used the release of special counsel Robert Mueller’s report to take further shots at the president.

While most Republicans responded to the release of the report on Thursday by slamming the special counsel for producing what renowned conservative commentator Mark Levin has described as a “political document,” Romney instead took to Twitter to slam the president … again.

The ONT's crack staff of researchers has found that New Orleans is anywhere from 2 feet below sea level to 20 feet above sea level. What a surprise then that $14 Billion of taxpayer dollars were flushed down the toilet with new levees in New Orleans.

The $14 billion network of levees and floodwalls that was built to protect greater New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina was a seemingly invincible bulwark against flooding.

But now, 11 months after the Army Corps of Engineers completed one of the largest public works projects in world history, the agency says the system will stop providing adequate protection in as little as four years because of rising sea levels and shrinking levees.

The law of unintended consequences.

Taylor found these bag bans did what they were supposed to: People in the cities with the bans used fewer plastic bags, which led to about 40 million fewer pounds of plastic trash per year. But people who used to reuse their shopping bags for other purposes, like picking up dog poop or lining trash bins, still needed bags. "What I found was that sales of garbage bags actually skyrocketed after plastic grocery bags were banned," she says. This was particularly the case for small, 4-gallon bags, which saw a 120 percent increase in sales after bans went into effect.

So what evil gun forced these two middle school girls to plan on murdering nine people?Too much social media and not enough God in their lives.

AVON PARK — Two Avon Park Middle School girls are facing charges that they planned to kill nine people.

Delaney M. Barnes and Solonge N. Green, both 14, were arrested after a teacher at the school called law enforcement to report that they were acting “hysterical” in her class while looking for a folder.

The teacher told Highlands County Sheriff’s Office investigators that the girls said they were going to get arrested while looking for the folder and saw them looking through other students’ backpacks.

Mexico is not our friend. Their recent enabling of migrants to storm the US border ia a hostile act. Now they are detaining American soldiers on US territory.

Officials confirmed that the Mexican troops were armed with what seemed to be assault riffles. They drew their weapons when they saw the two U.S. soldiers and ordered the U.S. troops to return their weapons to a military vehicle. According to officials, the two Americans obliged "in an attempt to de-escalate a potential volatile situation."

"Throughout the incident, the U.S. soldiers followed all established procedures and protocols," Northern Command said in a statement.

While the two U.S. troops were on the south side of the security perimeter, officials say that they were still north of the Rio Grande and thus were firmly inside American territory. After the incident, military and Department of Homeland Security officials sent an inquiry to the Mexican government demanding an explanation.

Kevin Williamson’s Hilarious Sophistry or Kevin Williamson is a dick.

Last week National Review published an unintentionally funny bit of sophistry by Kevin Williamson. “The division of labor is the meaning of life,” the article begins, and lest anybody should be confused, Williamson explains:

I do not mean this metaphorically or analogically, but literally.

Life begins with the cell, and the cell is defined by a minimum of specialization: membrane, cytoplasm, and (usually) nucleus.

What makes a cell a living cell is a matter of some slight imprecision: Most living cells reproduce, but some (such as neurons) do not; most cells have nuclei and DNA, but mature red blood cells do not; etc. But the generally shared characteristics of living cells all depend upon the division of labor within the cell: order, sensitivity to stimuli, growth and reproduction, maintenance of homeostasis, and metabolism.

World of Fun Battle Royale

There’s nothing better than watching a bunch of morons brawling in a Walmart, McDonalds, a bowling alley, a Chucky Cheese pizza joint or at an amusement park.

Well, that’s not exactly true, I prefer watching NASCAR much more.

Apparently a massive brawl broke out at the Worlds of Fun amusement park in Kansas City, Mo., Saturday night which involved at least 300 people!

The last laugh didn't belong to tonight's Genius Award Winner.

Well, that backfired.

A Pennsylvania woman who wound up on a local police department’s “Top Ten Most Wanted List” was busted this week after she taunted cops in a Facebook post about her being on the lam, authorities said this week.

Chloe Jones implicated herself when she commented on the “wanted” post by the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, writing, “Do you guys do pick up or delivery??” with four crying-laughing emojis, police said.

Jones then got into an argument with other commenters on the post and claimed that she was at a hospital in Morgantown, West Virginia, WDTV reported.

You'd not be far wrong.

I do believe there are conscientious police officers who want to help people and put their lives on the line to serve others. However, positions of power attract assholes. Combine that with a degradation of the words 'Duty' and 'Honor' in our society and the math does itself.

60 People in the cities with the bans used fewer plastic bags, which led to about 40 million fewer pounds of plastic trash per year.

Then for added fun, the same city that banned the plastic bags, went and installed numerous plastic bag dispensers in every park and green belt so that pet owners, who no longer could recycle their shopping bags, would have a plastic bag to recover their pet's feces.

My favorite part was being out during a particularly windy day and watching bag after bag catching the wind and being sucked out of the dispenser, priming the next bag to follow its predecessor, each dark green plastic bag firing out of the dispenser like a machine gun to be spread around the park and camouflaged in the neighboring grass and yards.

This story sounded pretty benign to me. A vehicle with two US troops in it was parked in a place were the border fence doesn't actually follow the border. They were on the Mexican side of the fence, but they were still within US territory. An unmarked vehicle of some sort of Mexican "authorities" approached them and ordered them out of their vehicle. They began questioning them, but very soon they got an order to scram, and they did so.

245 That fence should have been constructed in the middle of the river. Mexican military should only be on our soil by invitation.

Not with the traitors that occupy the legislative branch.

Given that the lawsuits and legislative/judicial obstruction alone will costs hundreds of billions and a score of years to settle, it would be far wiser and cheaper to find the purchase price of the top leaders in Mexico, and arrange some sort of quid pro quo so that the US leases a continuous stretch of Mexican land to host The Wall. Make it something like a 99 year lease and set it up so that the Mexicans who own the leased land get a commission on the maintenance and effectiveness of the wall under their control.

That eliminates interference by the legions of traitors and seditionists who would otherwise prevent the wall from ever being constructed.

265 A whole lotta vets get green checks by the feds.

Being a vet doesn't make a person patriotic. (ref Bradley Manning, Reality Winner, et al)

Once a person hits flag rank, they stop being an American and become part of the Deep State.

I think there are quite a number of people who joined the military for reasons that had little to do with a love for this country.

Watched some documentary series on life aboard an aircraft carrier, and it was pretty clear that many servicemen and women were on board because McDonald's wasn't hiring, their home life was a disaster, or fleeing a bad relationship.

There are many who are attracted to the lifestyle and possible adventure, the camaraderie of a mission exceeds the purpose of the mission.

And since when has the military served any true patriotic purpose? Pretty much every deployment is a political extension of power and diplomacy for the sake of politicians being welcomed and showered with praise from foreigners.

And when Eisenhower warned of the MIC? Isn't that placing the love of money and power over the interests of fellow Americans?

I'm just not seeing the evidence.

I think they have the right to do it and don't have thoughts of bad character but they have a bad actor as a front man.

Addendum to NM governor the sheriff of one of the border counties declared the county in a state of emergency which has been denied by the governor.

There is a prayer for the president in the Book of Common Prayer.

" O Lord our Governor, whose glory is in all the world: We commend this nation to your merciful care, that, being guided by your Providence, we may dwell secure in your peace. Grant to the President of the United States, the Governor of this State, and to all in authority, wisdom and strength to know and to do your will. Fill them with the love of truth and righteousness, and make them ever mindful of their calling to serve this people in your fear; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, world without end. Can anybody imagine a Democrat controlled govt. to set up a witch-hunt investigation against itself? Did anybody actually believe it would calm the Dems and MSM and make them easier to work with? Trump and Sessions should have told the rabid hyenas to go f*** themselves from day 1.

Fortunately it did work out in end to Trumps favor. In early 2017 we were probably closer to an actual coup of some sort than we realize and this investigation managed to buy some time for Trump,

421 So, I had a pretty good shop day today. Got a VW fired up, and out from under the hoist so I could put the hoist down and get the Studebaker convertible off it. The convertible had a flat tire. I checked the date codes, and the tires were made in 1992. Or maybe 1982. Codes are ambiguous; second year of one of those two decades.

So, I pulled the wheels off the car, and replaced them with some nice aluminum wheels and tires I saved off a '95 Lincoln Town Car I parted out. Those tires are also stale-dated, but not by nearly so much, and have all held air OK. I had to replace all the lug nuts with ones having a larger hex, and I had just enough on hand.

Put a battery in the convertible, and got it started, and took a quick spin up the road. No shaking on thumping from the wheels, and it steers straight.

Demounted the old tires off the original (mismatched) set of Studebaker rims, and stored the rims. Marked the old tires as "aged out", to be used only as "rollers" under a non-running car.

Got my friend's little car that I have work on off the trailer, and up on the hoist. All in all, a good day.

439 Evening, Horde. Hope everyone had a blessed Easter.

Average Family not so much. Average son (19 y.o.) admitted himself to psychiatric care today due to suicidal thoughts. He actually attempted on Friday, though it was a half-hearted attempt. Won't go into details. He's been dealing with depression/anxiety/possible bipolar disorder for a few years, most intensely since graduating from HS two years ago.

This sh*t seems very intractable, and we don't think the Dr. he's been seeing for 2 years is helping a whole lot. Avg. Son likes his Dr. personally, and doesn't like change, but he admitted yesterday he may start looking for someone else. Maybe this event (getting himself admitted) will open up new avenues toward effective treatment.

Anyway, I don't like dumping this stuff on near strangers, but somehow I feel OK sharing this with the Horde. I guess this is also a request for prayer... I know ultimately only God can fix my son, if that be His will. I only hope it's His will.

460 Emma Thompson The Queen of Virtue Signalers flies 5,400 miles to save the planet.

With modern technology --- i.e. teleconferencing, etc. --- there is absolutely no reason for Emma Thompson to fly anywhere to give a speech. She can stay in her own home, setup a camera and give the speech by teleconference.

Even better, there is no need to organize conferences anymore. Conferences in the sense where people rent out a huge venue where hundreds or thousands of people gather to listen to speeches. All those people having to fly and drive to the location, which also uses tons of energy to host the conference.

Nope, if the world is actually in as much danger of ending as these tools say it is, then every modern "conference" should now be held completely online. No one needs to leave their homes, no one needs to drive anywhere, no one needs to fly anywhere, no large building needs to be used. It could/should all be done from the comfort of one's own home.

Even BETTER, via modern technology, there is absolutely no reason for elected Senators and Congressmen to move to Washington D.C. Everyone should remain in their own states, in their own homes and their main/only office should be their local office.

There is no reason for them to drive or fly back and forth between their states and Washington, D.C. If they need to have a vote for something, they can easily do it via teleconference.

The same thing goes for interviews of any Senator or Congressman. No need to drive or fly to the studio for any interviews and emit evil CO2 into the atmosphere. Nope, just teleconference the interview. Same for appearances on "talk shows".

This would be the VERY FIRST question I would have for any of these fools when they wanted to talk about "global warming". I would ask them when they were going to start mandating teleconferencing instead of driving and flying all over the place. And I would ask them why they need to fly or drive to Washington D.C. instead of being in their home states, representing their constituents, when all the technology exists to do their jobs from home.

It came down to a couple things for me.

First off, the Doctors really have no idea what they are doing. They call it PRACTICING Medicine for a reason.

If your Son is changing or going on and off any medication, watch him carefully. That is the time when most have problems.

The second thing I would do? (in hindsight).

I never taught my kids that Life sometimes just sucks, but that GOOD memories are the antidote for the bad times.

Make good memories with your Son. Go do stuff. Go places. Have fun.

And then tell him when he gets in that bad place, to remember those good times.

Its a coping mechanism that I learned in the Military, that I never thought I'd have to teach my kids (because their lives were not supposed to suck like mine did at times).

And with that I'll just say, good luck. Every situation is different. Every person is different. And the lessons I learned may not pertain.

(but I have wild Monkey Sex with a Psychiatrist at a Holiday Inn once... so according to commercials that makes me an expert? right?).

500 The $14 billion network of levees and floodwalls that was built to
protect greater New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina was a seemingly
invincible bulwark against flooding.\

But now, 11 months after the Army Corps of Engineers completed one of
the largest public works projects in world history, the agency says the
system will stop providing adequate protection in as little as four

545 It was my pleasure to meet the crazy, the interesting, however you want to state it, younger generation this weekend. 23 year old college graduate with an engineering degree and mountains of debt from said degree, working as a barista.
Spent 4 years at a midwest institution of higher learning with supposedly the knowledge that she wasn't happy getting her degree. She stuck to it to please mom dad. She enters the real world not even wanting to pursue the career she studied.
It's not satisfying working as an engineer, she cannot influence people or help people. She can only add to the coffers of corporate America. Making and selling coffee products she can interact with people and make a difference in their lives and hers.
She's tried to find happiness in other ways and help people. Growing organic fruits and vegetable in HI. Sustainable. And now coffee.
I feel so sorry for these kids. Who taught them how to succeed, who mentored them?
These kids need a true dose of reality. Do I want another world war, no I don't. But these kind of events mature people and teach them the realities of life. And how to cope with them.
In her defense she doesn't blame anyone for her predicament. She borrowed the money knowing she really didn't want to go to college for her degree. She also knows she needs to pay back the loan. However, at this rate it will take her a long, long time. And she knows it.
God help me for saying this. This kid was truly a candidate for one of those gender studies programs. Instead, engineering!

575 The member of the state parole board who cast the tie-breaking vote that granted early release to former Weather Underground terrorist Judith Clark is married to a convicted murderer a revelation that has outraged Clarks victims and their families.

Last year, following Agostinis 2017 appointment to the parole board, The Post exclusively revealed how she married Thomas OSullivan while he was serving 25 years to life in prison for the killing of a drug dealer in Queens.

At the time they wed, Agostini was working as a state Assembly staffer who dealt with prison issues. She helped win OSullivans release in 2013 by lobbying Parole Board Chairman Bob Dennison.

Agostini was nominated to her seat on the Parole Board by Gov. Andrew Cuomo who also granted Clark clemency in 2016, making her eligible for parole.

Where did the crane go? How was the crane removed from the site without police and investigators involved? What about the operator? The entire thing is still very fishy.

Yup, and since there are (as the Cheka used to say) 'special considerations", we will never know anything more.

How many people want to help illegals or other criminal elements in our society? Progressive have spent about $22 TRILLION dollar on the "poor" since the 1960s. A have never moved the needle! PDT has helped more of the poor in the last 2 year than BHussein did in the previous 8!

578 Unless you're miserable every day, every hour, lots of people have jobs that sometimes or rather regularly annoy them, but they manage to do a good job and pay their bills. People probably shouldn't look to their jobs to make them happy. Good, supportive Social relationships and family can make people content. For me my faith does that, but in this world we will have troubles and shouldn't expect continual happiness as the world defines it.

583 I wonder how many of my Senators will denounce Maxine today for "calling out" my patriotism.

She forgot that she is trying to manipulate people who speak and can comprehend structured English, so she uses the language of Prog where sounds are made to trigger emotions.

She wants to manipulate you, so by calling you unpatriotic, you are supposed to be ashamed of the accusation, feel guilt and remorse for not living up to her standards for patriotism then repent of your evil ways and condemn Trump - so you can be a patriot again.

She has no idea of what a "patriot" is, she just knows that attacking you from that angle will hurt you - and hurting you is the number one fetish.

________

To be happy at home is the ultimate result of all ambition, the end to which every enterprise and labour tends, and of which every desire prompts the prosecution."
Johnson: Rambler #68 (November 10, 1750)

He also said:
"There is nothing which has yet been contrived by man, by which so much happiness is produced as by a good tavern or inn."

592 Because of my line of work I encounter a lot of enginners, civil, structural, and electrical. Women are pretty uncommon, and most don't stick around long. The pattern is - young thing gets gig at firm, works for two or three years, gets married, works for another year or two until the baby bump appears, takes off to have baby, never comes back. Not that there is anything wrong with that, we need more babies.

This is the case probably 75 percent of the time. When one of my customers hires a woman, I know she will probably be gone within 5 years. The exception is an older woman, who is either childless or has that part of her life behind her.

593 Fen. True. But not everyone sees it that way. As a society we have raised a large number of very selfish children. They want it all, happiness in every facet of life. Never anything unpleasant.
Have this discussion all the time with my husband about what I feel about our visits to funeral homes. He refuses to go near an open casket. I have no issue. It's an avoidance of something unpleasant and for me it's saying good bye to someone I loved or respected. Death is something that has to be faced. Does not going to that open casket make the person less dead? To me it gives me closure (sorry about the buzz word).
To he and his children it's an avoidance of the unpleasant. You know, what life is at times.

595 sorry, not stalking you, Mr. Peebles. Just the darn jumpy computer. Sometime a cup of coffee really helps me. I have to say that attitude really helps. I was in the Wawa yesterday getting a cold drink. There was some kid there stocking stuff He said "I hope your Easter Day is going well,. Miss (Miss LOL) and that the rest of your days goes well." I thought that was very nice. The cashiers are usually pleasant but he wasn't even at the register. If this kid becomes asst manager or manager of the Wawa some day it wouldn't be a bad thing.

601 Something to be said for that point of view.

yeah, I was challenged on the "what about the military"?

The other day, my boxing coach and I are jaw jacking after the workout and it turns to "what is it to be an American"? which came from the question of is their an American culture? And his answer is yes: Our diversity is our culture. (which to me is to say that he believes that the lack of a distinctive culture is our distinctive culture).

I submit that the document in which the founders pledged their lives, fortunes and sacred honor would be the country's Manifesto. He didn't agree. Apparently few in the last couple of generations too.

And that is my point, if the US's Manifesto - its reason for being is found in the Declaration of Independence, something that has not been taught for forty years, and hated and reviled in the last twenty, how can I expect anyone - including those in the military to love and embrace the core of being an American?

That, of course, assumes that the DoI accurately articulates our country's ideologically distinctive doctrine.

If not, the US is just one large economic opportunity zone and we have no doctrine and are nothing more than a bunch of diverse and warring factions trying to grab the most power to enforce our world view on others.

We killed God and worship Nietzsche.
