I really am

***

Mornin' Morons. Let's take a glimpse at a few stories that didn't get their due here at the AoSHQ this past week.

***

  • Buying used shoes for your wife? Really.

  • Holy crap.

  • That didn't take long.

  • Adios cold cruel world.

  • There is a sucker born every minute.

  • The need for sword control. Or just another Florida story.

  • Martin Luther and Jello-Salad band are rolling over in their graves.

  • Sweat pants need built in holster.

  • No more lunch date with Jr. and his little friends.

  • The cost of love.

Enjoy these stories or something else in this open thread. Please don't run with sharp objects. Please play well with others and no pulling the 'ettes ponytails.

    Have a great weekend!!!

Thank you, I was completely blanking on her name. So glad she and her family are okay. It sounds like the area is a huge mess but there don't seem to be many injuries/fatalities, which is great.

My aunt said the lights went out just before everything started falling of the walls. One of her friends still didn't have power hours later and *that* is likely to be a problem at this time of year. Clean up in winter temps is going to add complexity.

69 My only comment on the passing of Bush the Elder is that he was the wrong President to be in office at the tail end of the Cold War. In that regard, his is a record of missed opportunities make the US safe and to prevent the problems that we have internationally now. He supported the break up of the Warsaw Pact, but opposed the dissolution of the Soviet Union. He failed to remove the Communist government of Cuba when it would have been easy, and also made no move to deal with the pissant country of Iran when it was without allies and at no risk of being pushed into the vanished Russian orbit.

I won't even go into his destruction of the Republican Party in California with his "Peace Dividend".

Nonetheless, his family will miss him. RIP.

Like many, that argument was never settled. I am sure this incident will also fuel a bit of frame/slide safety or not discussions, too. And holster or not discussions.

All of those are back-up measures for preventing shooting yourself in the meat department. The story is really about improper weapon handling, IMO. I wasn't there, but I'd bet a significant number of paychecks he put his finger and some sweatpants fabric on the trigger.

Shortly after H.W.'s CIA directorship, the prof invited him to speak to our class - all 30 of us. I remember his talk being fun and interesting and I also remember him being a very engaging individual. He hung around for over an hour after the lecture and took questions and chatted one-on-one with quite a few of us. I'm also in the camp that views his presidency as a very mixed bag of achievements versus blunders but he seemed like a pretty decent guy.

I used to use, as a mental exercise, the question as to whether Hilter thought he was doing the right thing or not.

If I had to guess I would say his thought process was about 90% "I'm just this right about things," and about 10% was "I'm an evil sot."

    I'll never know, of course.

So yeah, I think Bush and Mccane and folks like that think they're right. So do I.

And you know what? I'm human. So sometimes I'm not.

I mistakenly posted the same negative review of another vendor. The did not earn that. My bad completely.

I've gone to my profile page where previous reviews are posted but neither review is there. I really want to revise my screwup but can't get to it.

Any ideas about how to fix this or do I have to wait some undefined amount of time for it to appear?

I think there's a 'review period' for Amazon reviews. Not sure but it seems as if there's some human interaction involved with negative reviews.

So it may take a while before you can get to it. Probably at least 24 hours.

I recently wanted to review something because it was bad, and they had completely cut off reviews for the product. Still selling the product, but they wouldn't let customers know it was fvcked up. I *had* figured a workaround and was going to mention it in the review.

There is a theological guess (not a theory or hypothesis) that prayer for the deceased is meaningful, because time on "the other side" is not a factor. It just doesn't exist there.

So... if you pray for the deceased, it has an effect, even if that person died a million years ago, or will die a million years from now.

I'm not saying I buy it, but that's a thing some people believe.

Or, being respectful is simply a way of being kind to the people who love and care for the person who just died.

Greenworks has a shitload of products that use the same battery. Lawn mowers, tree trimmers, chain saws, leaf blowers.

The only caution is their battery charger doesn't have built in auto shutoff and they'll kill the battery if overcharged. I hook mine up to a darkroom timer now and charge it on a cement floor. Those babies occasionally catch fire and they're a nightmare to put out.

Posted by: Pete Seria at December 01, 2018 09:51 AM

Greenworks has a shitload of products that use the same battery. Lawn mowers, tree trimmers, chain saws, leaf blowers.

The only caution is their battery charger doesn't have built in auto shutoff and they'll kill the battery if overcharged. I hook mine up to a darkroom timer now and charge it on a cement floor. Those babies occasionally catch fire and they're a nightmare to put out.

197 I got an electric push mower to do the trimming and so Mrs f'd can cut around her garden. It works pretty good but the batteries only lasted about 3 years. I made a new battery pack for about $50 using 3-9 amp UPS batteries. Replacement from the manufacturer was $150.

Still it's only good for trimming and I wouldn't want to cut a yard of any size with it. The best thing though is no gas and the associated problems, and it charges from my solar panels.

I remove the blade and take it to be sharpened. I take it to the same store/repair shop where my dad bought it. I've also taken it in for repairs a couple times (broken throttle cable, new cylinder head because I stripped the spark plug threads).

It still works fine, and it's cheaper than buying a new one of similar quality.

245 FWIW battery conditioners and trickle chargers are two different things. Trickle chargers just won't exceed a certain amperage for charging, but they wait for the battery to self-discharge before they top it off, so they don't simulate a load and keep the charge level floated. Conditioners have little computers and will do a partial discharge and a high-amp recharge so they better simulate real-world use and, ideally, keep the battery working better. I don't know if that matters as much with newer LiPo batteries or whatever, compared with the older lead-acid or NiCd types.

258 245 FWIW battery conditioners and trickle chargers are two different things.

260 So, I sent the article about the Lutheran woman pastor to my friend in the ministry who's a Orthodox priest. I also sent him the article about the Atheist United Church of Canada minister who doesn't believe in the Bible and I asked if his church would remove a Priest who was an Atheist. He replied that it was something to do with the state church in Canada and she couldn't be removed.

I don't know what he'll say about this article, I do know, however, that he didn't have sex until he was married (For one thing he was in seminary while dating) and he wore a ring to remind him to of the importance so he can't have a problem with the idea behind purity rings.

That sounds like a trickle charger. Which could be what you need! I am not a batteryologist. Consult your batteryosopher for advice.

Photovoltaics usually can't crank out the amperage to do a conditioner deep cycle and they're better at running a moderate charge forever. But if your batteries wouldn't benefit from dis/recharge cycles in the first place, then you don't need a conditioner for them. I think!

You cannot accept God's gift of forgiveness for your sins if you don't acknowledge what God defines as your sins (see His commandments, or Leviticus, or Paul's lists of people who aren't getting into Eternity under any circumstance).. Progressives, if they even use the word sin, tend to think of it in progressive terms, like 'not celebrating the gay lifestyle' or 'not *caring* about global warming enough', or 'not supporting the migrant caravan'

319 In 2017 NASA announced a code optimization competition only to cancel it shortly after. The rules were simple. There is a Navier-Stokes equations solver used to model aerodynamics, and basically, the one who makes it run the fastest on the Pleiades supercomputer wins the first prize.

There were a few caveats though. The applicant had to be a US citizen at least 18 years of age, and the code to optimize had to be in Fortran.

Fortran is not the most popular language in the programmer's community. Many believe that it's complex and outdated. Programming in Fortran is perceived like riding a horse-driven carriage to work. Fortran? Isn't it something that Amish do?

Many thought that the competition will never start due to the lack of applicants. In fact, it was cancelled for the exact opposite reason.

Quoting NASA's Press Release: The extremely high number of applicants, more than 1,800, coupled with the difficulty in satisfying the extensive vetting requirements to control the public distribution of the software made it unlikely we would achieve the challenge's original objectives in a timely manner.

346 I have to admit that ever since hearing about HW Bush's death,

I've been vacillating between "rest in peace" and "burn in hell".

In retrospect, so much of what Bush did led to our current problems socially and economically.

Given that he strangled Reagan's reforms in the crib, and set us back on the ruinous tax and spend path, it's not too much to say that Clinton's terms were HW's 2nd and 3rd terms, and W's two terms were HW's 4th and 5th terms.

Essentially, the Dems ran the country for 20 years sliding ever further left without a moral leader providing opposition. That a frankly anti-American President, Obama, was the result shouldn't surprise anyone.

He also led the efforts to "open" China at the expense of America's influence and economy and more importantly at the expense of the middle and working class.

HW seemed more interested in a healthy China than a healthy America. Until Trump all subsequent Presidents followed this stupid path.

There's more but this is already too long a rant and we all know the few good things he did-

I don't think he was evil. Just another progressive fool in Republican clothes.

eh, let the dead bury the dead.

Good bye and good luck in the Afterlife.

If I attend studies at his church-while I would never criticize him during them I sometimes write him e-mails and say "What were you thinking?" I think the view of the EO priest is probably higher than that of your usual Protestant clergy and you're not supposed to criticize them

One of the good things he did that people *don't* know is to send supplies and teachers to Mongolia after they voted to leave the USSR and Russia punished them by stripping the infrastructure. What is happening in Venezuela happened there (zoo animals start looking *mighty* tasty in a crunch I guess), but the aid Bush sent meant that they were able to survive until they got some industry/resource exploitation of their own going and the teachers meant they were able to enter the 20th century English speaking world and also learn how to *live* free after being a possession of China or Russia for so long.

This was all news to me when we visited and I suspect that it's unknown to most Americans.
