Quote of the Day I

"He did have some anger issues but never said he would hurt anyone," the friend said, adding with disturbing irony, "His shots were terrible."

Quote of the Day II - Control Without Responsibility Edition

It bothers me a little when conservatives call Barack Obama a "socialist." He certainly is an enemy of the free market, and wants politicians and bureaucrats to make the fundamental decisions about the economy. But that does not mean that he wants government ownership of the means of production, which has long been a standard definition of socialism. What President Obama has been pushing for, and moving toward, is more insidious: government control of the economy, while leaving ownership in private hands. That way, politicians get to call the shots but, when their bright ideas lead to disaster, they can always blame those who own businesses in the private sector.

Thus the Obama administration can arbitrarily force insurance companies to cover the children of their customers until the children are 26 years old. Obviously, this creates favourable publicity for President Obama. But if this and other government edicts cause insurance premiums to rise, then that is something that can be blamed on the "greed" of the insurance companies. The same principle, or lack of principle, applies to many other privately owned businesses. It is a very successful political ploy that can be adapted to all sorts of situations.

-- Thomas Sowell

Quote of the Day III

From next July, there will be no imaginable circumstance in Sydney that could be described in the following way:

"Three guys went out for a late-night drink after an evening at the greyhound track."

The word "guys" is already under attack following a ruling from Australian of the Year David Morrison, who believes it indicates sexism. Late-night drinks? Forget that, thanks to the NSW government's lockout laws and the enforced closure of bottle shops at 10pm. And now greyhound racing is to be banned as part of the government's continuing war on the working class.

For now, at least, evenings remain legal. But here's a circumstance that presently applies in NSW, and will for the foreseeable future:

"Three members of the LGBTI community went to the heroin injection room in Kings Cross."

That's Sydney for you, where shooting up in our heroin injection room is perfectly acceptable but racing some dishlickers is soon to be against the law. No to dog tracks, yes to track marks.

The Notorious RBG (Ruth Bader Ginsburg) is a Poor Judge and a Bad Person

In an interview published in the NYT yesterday she made it clear that she's highly biased against Donald Trump. Will she recuse herself on any cases involving him? Given her history probably not.

These days, she is making no secret of what she thinks of a certain presidential candidate.

"I can't imagine what this place would be - I can't imagine what the country would be - with Donald Trump as our president," she said. "For the country, it could be four years. For the court, it could be - I don't even want to contemplate that."

It reminded her of something her husband, Martin D. Ginsburg, a prominent tax lawyer who died in 2010, would have said.

"'Now it's time for us to move to New Zealand,'" Justice Ginsburg said, smiling ruefully.

And in the same interview she talks about her 'friend' Antonin Scalia. Luckily for her he died:

A second deadlock, in United States v. Texas, left in place a nationwide injunction blocking Mr. Obama's plan to spare more than four million unauthorized immigrants from deportation and allow them to work. That was unfortunate, Justice Ginsburg said, but it could have been worse.

"Think what would have happened had Justice Scalia remained with us," she said. Instead of a single sentence announcing the tie, she suggested, a five-justice majority would have issued a precedent-setting decision dealing a lasting setback to Mr. Obama and the immigrants he had tried to protect.

And then Matthew Walther at the WFB points out that she was ugly inside long before she came to the court:

I could go on about her record as a justice, the 23 years of appalling logic and manifest legerdemain; but the most salient fact about Ginsburg is that she is, surely, our most eminent living eugenicist. We don't talk about this much in polite company, but, as Mollie Hemingway once put it, Ginsburg is America's "crazy old racist great-aunt." Try to explain away remarks like "Frankly I had thought that at the time Roe was decided, there was concern about population growth and particularly growth in populations that we don't want to have too many of" or "It makes no sense as a national policy to promote birth only among poor people." George Kennan would have been proud.

Figures: Dallas Shooter Micah X. Johnson Was Kicked Out of the Army for Stealing Female Soldiers' Panties

14 Year Old British Girl Argues That Foreign Criminals Should Not Be Banned from the UK; 3 Months Later She Was Killed by a Convicted Latvian Murderer

Tragic schoolgirl Alice Gross wrote an essay in support of free movement within the EU before she is believed to have been killed by a convicted Latvian murder, it has been revealed.

Alice wrote about the benefits of European migration and discussed the push to keep foreign criminals out of Britain, saying such a move could 'reintroduce the idea of racism'.

Just three months later, the 14-year-old is thought to have been killed by Arnis Zalkalns, who was able to 'come and go' across the UK border despite a conviction for stabbing his wife to death in his homeland.

Meanwhile her parents are concerned that people may learn the wrong lesson from her easily preventable death.

In an interview with the newspaper, the couple said they had decided to share their daughter's words because they had been alarmed at how Alice had been used by anti-immigration groups and Brexiteers to further their arguments.

Here the cable snapped late which left the plane with barely enough residual speed to avoid hitting the water. This happened in March of this year and 8 sailors were injured by the cable but no one was killed. More details here.

How to Mess with the Nazis: The CIA's Sabotage Manual for Ordinary Citizens

This was a 1944 OSS sabotage field manual which listed ways that civilians in occupied territory could disrupt the enemy's operations in a clandestine and deniable way. Some of it is dated (like train ticket mix-ups) but a lot of it would still be effective - especially with everything so computerized these days. You can download the full pdf here.

Thought question: What exactly would government employees be doing differently if they were actively trying to sabotage the government.

New Feminist 'Ghostbusters' Toys Already on Clearance Even Before Movie Opens

I was down on the all-female remake of Ghostbusters when I heard about it for same reason I'm down on pretty much all remakes of classic movies - statistically they're bound to be worse than the original - hence forever tainting it to some degree - and every dollar spent on a bad remake is a dollar that could have been spent on a completely new good movie.

But when they went all feminist SJW against everyone who questioned the need for a new Ghostbusters movie with all female characters, I began to actively root for its failure. Looks like I'm getting a little Christmas in July.

But you're right, its an easy and powerful way to control. Businesses have to cowtow to government to get anything done, and are always the bad guys.

Billy Wilder was one of the few to ever actually say in public, he didn't have any respect for Monroe. Said she was extremely unprofessional, would go for days refusing to work, etc etc.

I definitely think she wouldn't be half as revered today, if she hadn't died relatively young and early in her career. People just love to project incredible, wonderful qualities on lost starlets; it's happened to James Dean, Monroe, Jim Morrison, etc etc etc.

89 The 7 Blunders of the World:

1. The American University System, which produces "academics" like Anna Hickey-Moody, who can declare an inanimate material like carbon fiber to be a tool of heterosexual male oppression.

2. Communism. How do you solve the problems caused by a ruling class having too much power? Make someone else the ruling class, with the promise that they'll work towards abolishing their power, then give them absolute power. There's no way this plan could go wrong!

3. The American Electoral System. It elected Barack H. Obama twice. Once is kinda understandable as a staggering, colossal cock-up, but twice? No further explanation is needed.

4. Universal Healthcare. Embodied by such flagrant foulups as the VA and the UK's NHS, supporters only have Canada's not-quite-a-failure-yet system to point to as a model for how it ought to work.

5. Global Warming. Let's solve the earth's eco-woes through the use of a lot of inefficient technology, which has to be mass-produced from toxic materials in China. I'm not breathing any smog from my wind turbine, so that means it's perfectly clean. Why is China such a smog-ridden toxic waste dump? Who knows, it's not my problem.

6. The European Union. Thank you for creating our trade commission. We are now the government. We are altering the deal, pray we don't alter it any further.

7. The United Nations. Let's create an organization to promote democracy and freedom, but give all of the world's dictatorships, which outnumber the free world, an equal vote. There's no way this plan won't turn into the International Haters of Israel and Associated Grifters club!

Some other insect. I'm sure you've heard his remarks lately about the validity of BLM. I'm also fond of posting this:

>>Back in 1997, when black Republican Congressman J.C. Watts denounced people like Jesse Jackson and then D.C. mayor Marion Barry as "race-hustling poverty pimps," House Speaker Newt Gingrich took it upon himself to apologize to Jesse Jackson.

>>To apologize for what another man said is to treat that man as if he were your child or your servant. Gingrich then added further insult by inviting Jesse Jackson to join him in his box for the Clinton inauguration for his second term as president.

>>Pulling the rug out from under your friends, in order to appease your enemies, may seem like clever politics to some people. But what could possibly have led Republicans to think that pro-Jesse Jackson blacks were ever going to vote for them?

159 Fascism as described by Mossolini:

http://www.worldfuturefund.org/wffmaster/Reading/Germany/mussolini.htm

Economically, fascism is an embodiment of corporatism.

Corporatism is when labor, business, farmer, &c. is brought into the fold of the state for the aims and benefit of the state, and where said labor, business, farmer, &c. is benefited in turn by the state for their service.

Corporatism is a way of organizing the economic life of a country under the direction of the state. It is the state that creates a corporatist economy, not the free market.

I would love for *someone* to be able to make it clear to black Americans that the MN BLM (white leftists rioting because they like to break stuff, but doing it in the name of blacks) are causing real harm to black society while getting to do whatever they please. In other words, it's the leftists that are everything blacks are worried about.

It needs to be someone they can hear though and Critical Theory and Marxist Dialectic have pretty much made it impossible for them to hear anyone (even those who look like them) who doesn't already agree with them. I pray that the block isn't impassable, because if it is there really isn't any hope for things to get better.

These's people's desire to be seen as virtuous and moral by those who have usurped the traditional guardians of morality has overridden their sense.

Much of what drives the modern Left is nothing but virtue signaling. It's the continual seeking of a Pharisee's meritless based on a subjective standard that they themselves define.

They get a sense of pride from that, and that makes them swallow all of the rest of the poison that goes along with it. Pride really is the deadliest of the 7 deadly sins.

There's something else going on and "war on the working class" seems to be at least partially accurate.I might not be right, but, there's a pattern to all this shit going on... real estate and development. The chinese are moving in, big time and there appears to be a pattern of bankrupting and/or closing down the places that made living in the inner Sydney area attractive. I've been wondering how that went down and hope we find out the details. I'm thinking one of two scenarios:

1) Johnson was injured and cornered and couldn't get away from the robot.

2) The police disguised the pound of C4 as food or something that Johnson wanted. Think Candygram for Mongo.

I'm surprised they did it, at all. That sort of thing usually isn't pursued because the operators have no control over who gets killed, exactly. They were lucky that no one else was in there with him. And they are also lucky that he didn't manage to get a hold of the explosive or robot and throw it at someone else.

Frankly, the cops would have been better off just throwing a couple of hand grenades where he was at or shooting the place to kingdom come. But an exploding robot ... that's a tactic that's really begging for big problems.

I see nothing wrong - if you know dangerous criminal is isolated (or just with other criminals) - with just blowing the living shit out of their spot, but having robots tool around with live explosives ... I don't see that catching on.

Bomb-bot had to have a camera on it. Likely a microphone and speaker. They were clearing the parking garage out earlier. I would have to believe that as they were sending bomb-bot in/out they were also surveying the landscape to see if anyone was left especially the immediate area.

Bot get's back downstairs, they stand around wondering what to do next, somebody says "let's just explode the guy with the bot." They all rub heads and can't really come with a reason not to.

418 Deety, Dad was a lawyer and a writer. He let me grow my hair long and it looked like Hell and he didn't say a word.
He let me use a chainsaw at 12 and never made me wear chaps until he tagged himself one summer.
He bailed me out financially a couple of times and then told me to stand up on my own and made it stick
He was proud when I finally got a real job
I've seen him do as much as possible for other people and never expected anything back.

but there was always food, there was always light and heat. I always had clothes. I never acted to make him discipline my hard, mostly since he was so bad at it to be embarrassing to both of us. (My step-mom, now, she was an artist with a wooden spoon.)

He is old, and losing it. He is on a walker and has an artificial hip, should have had a knee replacement 10 years ago, and back surgery would have been useful too.
The wonderful stories he had are now bare skeletons of what they once were, he's forgotten half of them, and he repeats himself continually.
I joke he is dying by inches and has miles left to go. That is what hurts to watch.

But he's Dad. And I owe him more than he realizes. Something about good men only remembering their failures.

Deety, take some time for yourself. Go out once in a while and have a discussion with someone, go have a coffee, go look at the sky and listen to the birds and dig in some dirt.

There's a huge difference. Ask yourself why cops don't have hand grenades. They would certainly come in handy. But they aren't part of the cops' arsenal - for a good reason. This explosive bot is closer to a hand grenade than a sniper. And the controller REALLY doesn't know everything about what around the bot, either. And anything radio-controlled can be hacked, too, which is why you don't want to make a habit of having radio-controlled bots hauling C4 all over the place.

But Virginia has open primaries, which means that the state forces parties to accept primary votes from anyone (it seems that there is no party identification in Virginia voter rolls). There's nothing worse than inconsistency in law and this is as inconsistent as it gets.

If the state has no right to dictate anything about the vote then the state shouldn't be involved in the vote, at all. But to find the binding of a delegate to the vote that that delegate won to be un-Constitutional ... that's a friggin stretch and a half.

What's really un-Constitutional is having a vote run where people think they are voting for something specific and then having a judge declare, after the vote, that what the people thought they were voting for is NOT what they are getting. You just can't get more un-Constitutional than that.

569 Good Morning Morons. This is one of those rare times when I must disagree with Thomas Sowell. His defintion of "socialism" is not accurate. The terms socialism, communism, and capitalism were invented by the writers of the Communist Manifesto, Karl Marx and Freidrich Engels. In that paper there was capitalism, socialism, and communism. Capitalism is the economic system they maintained was in use at the time (it was not). Communism was their ideal system in which the state owned all the means of production and workers worked for the state. Socialism was an intermittent step between the two as communism was phased in. Later on, the Italian communists invented the term fascism to describe their version of communism.

As for capitalism, no country, including the US, has ever had pure capitalism. We have always been a mix of the three and since the 30s we have moved into an era where there is very little capitalism left in the US and what there is is under the table black market trade. We are primarily a socialist country now moving into fascism and communism. These are the hallmarks of a heavily taxed and massive regulatory welfare state.

Posted by: Vic We Have No Party at July 12, 2016 05:20 AM (mpXpK)

570 And BTW, the MFM is the one who has morphed the language to call communism "socialism". That was because Stalin gave the term communism such a bad reputation they had to come up with something different. We should not let liberals re-define the terms we use.

We lost a guy in Hong Kong from taking a horsepill size drug my father used to take for Parkinsons (except not as big) and he was drinking when he took it. I can't remember the name of it but you could buy it over the counter in Hong Kong. His heart locked up and he died.

608 >Thought question: What exactly would government employees be doing differently if they were actively trying to sabotage the government.

Ironically, some friends of mine got our hands on a copy of this some years ago and started checking off everything that happened regularly in our (big) company. Very few items were left unchecked (no fires for sure).

Morning, 'rons and 'ronettes. Thanks for the news, Vic.

Here's a Sophia Loren story:

It takes place in Switzerland, over the Christmas holidays in 1957. Loren and her husband, the producer Carlo Ponti,* had rented a chalet and found, to their delight, that their neighbors were Audrey Hepburn and her then-husband, actor Mel Ferrer.

It happened that Ferrer was away for business one day and Hepburn invited Sophia and Carlo over for lunch. "The chalet was very beautiful," Loren recalled, "luminous, all decorated in white, set on a hill overlooking the lake. Audrey was dressed in white, too, as was the table, on which she'd placed a few flowers and lots of candles. It was the height of elegance."

The three talked of common friends, of movies, of this and that and, at last, sat down to eat. Out came the chef with "a leaf of lettuce, a curl of fresh cheese topped by a smidgen of raspberry compote," and, next to that, a small, crusty bread roll.

Imagining that this was the appetizer, Loren and Ponti ate and chatted. But as soon as the plates were clean, in came the help to take them away. And as they did, Hepburn stood up, and, with an elfin, delicate smile, admitted,

"I ate too much."

A stunned Loren could only reply, "It was so much, and all so delicious!"

And, as she later remembered, as soon as they could decently leave, she and Ponti went back to their chalet and made themselves two big, thick sandwiches.

Here's La Loren in 1955:

And the lovely Hepburn:

Hope you all have a wonderful day.

Probably know too much to comment on it publicly. But, I understand it is ruinously expensive to run; but it is a unique resource if "things change" and we need it. Personally, I would mothball 90%, museum the rest, and allow the surface to be some sort of recreational - low intensity use.

616 NY Post has the iconic picture of a lovely young black woman dressed in a flowing polka dot dress serenely facing down the cops in LA. Ieshia Evans apparently flew from NY so that she could do a "work of God" having never participated in a protest before because she was moved by emotion after seeing pictures black men shot by cops.

Now, this may be a work of God, or call me cynical-it may be a staged event. Who wears a black flowing dress to participate in a protest rally?

Beauty and the Beast- Yep; Right.

622 DEMS IN DISARRAY: Anti-abortion Democrats fire back.

Anti-abortion Democrats are firing back at members of their party's platform committee for supporting language that would call for repealing a law preventing the use of federal funds for abortion.

The language inserted in the "reproductive health" section of the Democratic Party's draft platform for the first time calls for the repeal of the Hyde Amendment, a pillar of the anti-abortion movement.

Sen. Bob Casey Jr., a Democrat from Pennsylvania who opposes abortion, was concerned enough about the change to write a letter to the DNC platform committee urging them to reconsider.

...

Another anti-abortion Democrat, Sen. Joe Manchin ( W.Va. ), has also criticized the proposed change.

They're "anti-abortion Democrats," but they'll fully support Hillary.

Matt from my Sooperpodcast sent this to me, and wow, it made me laugh so hard. So I'm gonna share it with you, but I must caution you, it has some graphic language, and most of the humor is... earthy.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did [explicit language!]:

636 Why did Dallas sniper Micah Johnson snap?

The sniper who gunned down five police officers was the grandson of a longtime pastor. His uncle is a respected high school teacher and Boy Scout leader. His mother helped start a Dallas-area church.

And Micah Johnson grew up wanting to be a cop. So what went wrong?

Gosh, he was just the mostest outstanding citizen what could have gone wrong?

Delphene Johnson said her son came back from the war in Afghanistan in 2014 a different person.

It must be the military's fault. Let's ignore all of the Black Panther, anti-white racism.

639 "Anti-abortion Democrats are firing back at members of their party's platform committee for supporting language that would call for repealing a law preventing the use of federal funds for abortion."

Put on your Rush hat. Rush would explain that if PP was directly funded it would get hit with budget cuts. Sequestering would apply. No selling of fetus parts if the US gov officially paid for an abortion.

"That way, politicians get to call the shots but, when their bright ideas lead to disaster, they can always blame those who own businesses in the private sector. "

Planned Parenthood (what a 1984 Newspeak name) is one of the above GSEs masquerading as private enterprise. The above writer didn't realize that Obama couldn't come up with a new or inventive idea.

The Chinese have perfected this. That is why all the Chinese wealthy are buying overpriced US property. GSEs insure there is nothing worth investing in China. Everyone with investments in China should prepare to write them off as total losses. The Chinese investing in the US are screwed if Hillary wins and will probably do quite well if Trump wins.
