Quote of the Day I

I also love the Intertunnel for turning "Benghazi" into the term for, as the Urban Dictionary defines it: An attempt to cover a screw up so bad that it will cost you everything, then lie, get caught, & continue to lie to try & cover the lies.

Quote of the Day II - None Dare Call It Sea Rape

A professor at Santa Monica College took a group of students on an "EcoSexual Sextravaganza" trip earlier this month, during which they "married the ocean". The students were specifically instructed to think of this marriage as one involving sex, and encouraged to "consummate" the marriage and "make love to the water" by sticking parts of their bodies into it.

14 Year Old Boys Kick the Asses of Australia's Women's Olympic Soccer Team 7-0

A reminder that we are a dimorphic species and this fact matters in certain areas of life.

Australia's national women's soccer team have suffered a devastating defeat in the lead up to the Rio Olympics - going down 7-0 to the Newcastle Jets under-15 boys side.

Despite the embarrassing defeat on Wednesday night at Valentine Sports Park in Newcastle, the Australian team will travel to Brazil as one of the gold medal favourites.

NPR: Time to End the Savagery of Football

Count on flower children at NPR to go over the edge with this issue. The problem isn't the size and strength, and therefore power of professional football players. No, it's - ready? - the evil game of football itself.

Commentator Frank Deford used to love football, but now he just drops bombs on it. On Wednesday's Morning Edition on National Public Radio, Deford's weekly commentary was titled "What Is Football Doing to Us as a People?" He asked on air "So what is football doing to us as a people? How do we explain an America that, alone in the world, so loves this savage sport?"

This is your taxpayer-funded broadcasting in action: Planned Parenthood selling dead baby parts is just a "women's health" group aiding "medical research," but the NFL is organized savagery.

The Map That May Unmask Banksy

It turns out that criminals like to operate within their geographic comfort zone which is an area near their homes but not too-near. So with enough sample points you can statistically guess where they live.

Dr. Kim Rossmo of Texas State University, who studies the geography of crime, has found that criminals tend to behave according to reliable geographic patterns. Rossmo's formula (and that's not just a turn of phrase - there is something called "Rossmo's formula") is used to explain how serial thieves, rapists and other criminals commit their offenses at a close-but-not-too-close distance from their home. When this geospatial analysis is combined with more traditional evidence, it can help narrow down a list of suspects.

Now, Rossmo thinks his methods have helped identify the long-hidden identity of the street artist Banksy.

OK Highway Patrol Now Can Seize All Your Cash on the Spot

Now, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol has a device that also allows them to seize money in your bank account or on prepaid cards.

It's called an ERAD, or Electronic Recovery and Access to Data machine, and state police began using 16 of them last month.

Here's how it works. If a trooper suspects you may have money tied to some type of crime, the highway patrol can scan any cards you have and seize the money.

...Troopers insist this isn't just about seizing cash.

"I know that a lot of people are just going to focus on the seizing money. That's a very small thing that' s happening now. The largest part that we have found ... the biggest benefit has been the identity theft," Vincent said.

"If you can prove can prove that you have a legitimate reason to have that money it will be given back to you. And we've done that in the past," Vincent said about any money seized.

The Mexican police may be corrupt but they at least limit themselves to the cash in your wallet. (Thanks to JTT)

Business Case Study: FS Reloading, Lee Precision, and Integrity

Most of my reloading equipment is Lee mainly because they're lower-priced, provide good value, and because it was their sub-$100 Lee Anniversary reloading kit that got me into reloading in the first place. They're also proud of the fact that all of their products are designed and manufactured in the US. And one of the best sources for Lee products online has been FS Reloading which has been around for a long time and was just down the street from Lee in Wisconsin.

However my last order from FS Reloading was in February and after six weeks (long enough for me to have forgotten about it - luckily it wasn't critical) I noticed that I hadn't heard anything from them other than an initial order response and finally emailed them to make sure that the order did go through. They assured me that it was being processed and about two weeks later my package finally arrived. Apparently I wasn't the only one having problems with orders because I received this email from FS Reloading a few days ago:

Where's My Stuff?

Dear FS Reloading Customers,

My name is Jonathan Carter, General Manager of Pictor Design, LLC, the web hosting provider for FS Reloading. I regret to inform you that the owner of Factory Sales, LLC and FS Reloading, Greg Ehlenbach has been suffering from declining health for some time and is no longer able to operate his business.

Pictor Design is owed a great deal of money by FS Reloading. While reviewing the situation, I was dismayed to find a large number of customers waiting for orders that haven't been shipped. I didn't want to see FS Reloading simply close its doors leaving me unpaid and you unserved.

Fortunately we reached an agreement with Greg Ehlenbach on June 1, 2016 for Pictor Design to acquire many of the assets related to fsreloading.com. As a result, Pictor Design has taken over the operation of the FS Reloading web site.

John Lee of Lee Precision has graciously agreed to help us and you who are owed Lee Products by shipping the past due orders direct to each customer. You will receive a tracking number as soon as Lee Precision can process and ship the orders.

Now that we have direct control of the web site, you can expect steady improvements in service and support.

My staff and I are excited to be taking over fsreloading.com. Many of us are avid hunters, shooters and reloaders just like you. We have built and maintained shooting industry web sites since 1994 and look forward to now serving your reloading needs. We greatly appreciate your support and patience during this transition and look forward to great things coming soon.

Jonathan Carter, General Manager Pictor Design, LLC.

Since then there have been several updates on the status of orders and the company, and Lee Precision has been working with them logistically (and I suspect financially) to make sure all customers' orders are fulfilled as soon as possible. It's nice to see two companies showing integrity while trying to make the best of a bad situation for their customers. So I wanted to give them some props for it.

The US Army Is Rolling Out Superhuman Hearing to Soldiers

TCAPS is $2,000 pair of earbuds designed to limit battlefield noise exposure, cutting off noise that reach a set decibel threshold. The wearer can still hear gunshots and estimate their direction, but the noise is dampened to a non-damaging level thanks to microphones that detect the noise, and internals that use sound canceling technology to modify it for a wearer's ears.

At the same time, the decibel cap allows TCAPS-equipped soldiers to hear the voices of others around him, including through radios and other communications equipment.

Not only is TCAPS a safety device, it's also an acoustic sensor: The same microphones the system uses to constantly detect and screen noise can be turned up to detect sounds even the naked human ear would have trouble finding.

Megan Fox Has Some Theories About The Egyptian Pyramids And Their True Purpose

Fox isn't sure she wants to follow her string theory vision anymore. "I don't think acting is my ultimate passion," she says about a week before the "Ninja Turtles" opening. "I have other skill sets and gifts that are much, much stronger that I am obligated to exercise and use. I'm really more intellectually minded."
"I've always been into alternative history, antiquities, archaeology. I've always been really consumed by these deep mysteries that exist on our planet that can't be explained today by science. They eat away at me."

Read on to discover the truth about the Egyptian pyramids that only a hawt string-theorist/actress could reveal.

Which is more important to you, the "right" of a man to "identify" as a woman and use the ladies' restroom, or the safety of little girls. For most Progressives, including the ACLU, the obvious answer is to support the "trans-woman". For some Progressives who have daughters, that answer isn't so obvious.

Posted by: The Jackhole somewhere on Ventura Highway at June 07, 2016 11:35 PM (dULJN)

Their dies are often excellent, especially the Factory Crimp dies which are a must-have, and the Anniversary kit is a great way to inexpensively dip your toes into reloading (that's how I started). I'm actually in the process of retiring several of my die sets from other manufacturers, in favor of the Lee dies.

And the priming system on the Anniversary press is a lot better than on my Lyman turret press, even if the Lee uses entirely too much soft plastic. I never used to get shallow-pressed primers with the Lee, but 10% shallow primers is common with the Lyman. Which pains me because with the exception of the priming, I really love the Lyman press.

Honestly, I'm not the guy to ask about that. I don't do a lot of rifle reloading, it's mostly handgun stuff for me. Most of my rifle reloading has been either simple 223 practice ammo or replacing magnetic 7.62x54R bullets in surplus with modern non-magnetic for use at ranges in SoCal when I was living there.

I'll say this much. Don't try to do the magnetic/nonmagnetic swap without crimping. Especially with modern boattail bullets, there's not enough bearing surface in the surplus steel 54R cases to keep the bullets secure without crimping in place. Yeah, I've had those rounds literally fall apart in the magazine of my Finn M39 when I tried that without crimps.

192 Crimping the rounds keeps the bullet in place in the cartridge.

Normally there is enough elasticity in the brass to hold the bullet when properly annealed, but when there is a short bearing surface, like a pointy boat-tailed bullet, or there is a lot of recoil, like in a heavy rifle, the concussion can move the bullet in or out as the rifle and brass move as one and the bullet, in accordance to Newton's first law (figs and bullets stay in one place until moved due to inertia) doesn't move at the same time.

The seating depth can be crucial to the last iota of accuracy for people who can shoot better than I can, and there may be some headspace or concern about excessive air-space resulting in the cartridge above the powder charge (which is suspected to be the culprit in some minimal powder-charge explosions)

On the other hand I've also had .38 shorts walk their bullet out in an old revolver too, but that was a combination of worn chambers, heavy bullets and a sharp recoil from a lightweight pistol

Does this help?

I have been paying a lot more attention over the last few years to the bullshit they pull on a routine basis, not to mention the "war on drugs" crap and related rape of the 4th Amendment, as well as civil forfeiture and all the abuse that goes with it. I'm over it.

I got a ticket for speeding on the Simi Valley Freeway. Cop said he'd been tailing me for miles.....problem was, I hadn't been on that freeway for miles. Story completely changed in court to something equally fishy -- I was trying to frame my rebuttal when the judge-advocate-rent-a-judge said, "I know that stretch of road very well, it's easy to just get going a little faster and a little faster until I find I'm over the limit. Guilty."

I was slackjawed, thinking, "it's a good thing you're not a fuckin' serial killer, judge -- 'cause that same line of reasoning could put me in The Chair."

281 I had to look up the latest on this male bisexual crap. There have been studies that seem to indicate it doesn't exist. Men are either *physiologically* attracted to either women or men.

However, this is apparently a big thing. We exist dammit! claim the self-identified bisexual men and it's apparently a PC thing. How dare you criticize what we say we identify as and all that shit.

There are some studies that expanded on this idea, and expanded the material used to test for physical arousal. It included "bisexual content", showing shit like 2 men and 1 woman, with the men going gay. Supposedly, a very small percentage of men were more aroused by that than anything, and this claim is "they are most aroused by bisexual behavior*, therefore they exist.

So that's the latest shit on this shit, apparently.

Yes, love includes emotion, but it is a decision that you make. You DO have control over it, unlike the emotions that rule most folks when it comes to finding a mate. When you love, you become selfless toward that person, which means that the emotions that might or might not drive you become moot. You have chosen the highest and best for the other, not yourself. If that is NOT the case, then it isn't truly love and probably isn't likely to work out.

YMMV.

329 You know, I'm changing about the cop shows too, and I believe it is they who have done the actual changing in the last couple of decades, seeing the public as enemies, rather than as friends, who are to be protected from the predators within.

I had a deputy out when someone attempted to steal a truck of mine a few years ago. I noticed he ran the tags on every vehicle around this place before he left, and ran all our names. He was looking for outstanding warrants and all that shit. And he snooped around, looking at everything carefully. He was looking for anything contraband showing.

Pissed the hell out of me. He would have arrested me in a second if he found an excuse. That was sort of when my conversion to the dark side was sort of complete. However, I despise BLM and side with the cops in a heartbeat over leftist vermin.

Wow.

I caught a guy and a gal from the State poking around my place many years ago. [After demolishing an old home and burning the remnants.]

They had hopped a fence with a bunch of tools, and were just getting ready to start searching a portion of the property with some metal detectors. [Looking for proof that items like wiring and such were left to burn, which they were not.]

When I walked over with a shotgun and told them they had 1 minute to get back in their car and back down the road before I filled them with shot they ran away. Without their tools.

When I was growing up in LA, there was a saying: "Policemen, like coffee, come in five grades: Gentlemen, Police, Cops, Pigs, and Assholes....and in LA County, you're lucky to get grade 4."

But, then, I moved up to the University of Casual Sun-Bathing and the police force up there was outstanding -- you seldom encountered, or even heard about, less than grade 2. When I called the Niagara Falls Police Department about Joffen, they were very kind and diligent about finding him. I've had a run-in with the local police some decades before I lived here and found them to be intelligent and helpful.

But, yeah -- this whole thing about, "since we're here, let's run warrants and search everything" bullshit is extremely offensive.

383 I recall in the late 70s, before AIDS, there was a surprising amount of promotion for bisexuality in surprising places, like Playboy. It seemed to be the solution for young hedonists who just wanted a lot more sex than the women they knew. I have to wonder who was really pushing the idea but I noticed years later that a lot of the then bisexual icons settle down into just calling themselves gay and stopped pretending they lusted after women once it was no longer necessary. If they were born a few years later I suspect they'd never have bothered with the pretense.

390 I've been friends with a deputy sheriff here and run into cops a few times in my town and they've always been just great. I have been "pulled over" twice on my bike, but they were polite and decent to me.

Once it was late at night when I was on my way home from work (did I steal that bike?) and the other time some guy almost hit me in an alley and apparently yelled about it to a cop, who told me I was going the "wrong way" down the alley. When I asked him how to find out which way is the right way, he mumbled something about parked cars and then had to take a call.

I think the driver portrayed me as a maniac or something and found out I was just a guy on a bike. The driver was pulling out of a parking lot too fast and didn't check to see if the alley was clear...

399 I had never seen or even heard of Banacek somehow until MeTV recently. I loved it, of course. Could Hollywood even create a character like that now? I mean he's too testerone and balls and sees women as sex objects and all that icky shit.

I think I read George Peppard quit that role because he was going through a nasty divorce and didn't want to give his wife any more money, which he'd earn from continuing Banacek.

400 I'm off to the snoozer....but, leaving a parting thought.

How bout a Horde Sourced writing project, where every helpful Moron and 'Ette collaborates and produces a brilliantly well-written Singles Ad for L,Elle ?

Yeah, I know the submissions will range from mild to wild, from Serious to Seamus, but I'm equally certain that the entries will be most entertaining.

And that there'll be enough gold in with the dross to truly flatter the lass, and help her write an ad, which, even if never published at those online predator watering holes, will give her a good, fresh and clean look at herself in the mirror which is Teh Horde.

All kidding aside, there's a bunch of truly fine folks who frequent the ONT, and the assembled wisdom here could damn near loft another Apollo 11.

So, what say ye, vile throng? Are ye up to the task?

401 Hah. Told you I was leaving. I did. Now, here I am. At home.

publius: I had to look up the latest on this male bisexual crap. There have been studies that seem to indicate it doesn't exist. Men are either *physiologically* attracted to either women or men....

My only study of this matter is some scenes from "bisexual" porn to which I was exposed against my will, and from peeking between my fingers it looked to me like it was always two gay guys and a girl thrown in there, in whom the guys only feigned interest while waiting to get it on with each other.

Now, maybe that was just bad performances, but I suppose it reflected the target audience.

I have no intention of extending my study - because is all porn is bad and causes guilty-warts.

402 I admit one of the things that keeps me in California: my town, Lakewood, seems to have pretty good cops.

I'm not kidding: A few years ago, I once *accidentally ran a red light* in front of an LA Sheriffs car here in town. Not only didn't I get a ticket... I didn't even get pulled over. Sure, the officer might simply have not noticed, but how often is that likely to happen?

It probably helps that we have a strong tax base thanks to there being a lot of thriving businesses in town, so the cops aren't on "revenue raising patrol" all the time. Not yet, anyway.

411 Banacek was always "impossible crime", and the clever Banacek, who is cocky as hell about it, always figure it out at the end, and does a grand reveal of how they done it.

One I particularly liked was a missing experimental car. It was being moved by rail. They loaded it up, and then when the train got to the destination, the car and the rail car were gone, just plucked from the otherwise intact train.

Another was a fancy experimental rocket engine just disappeared from the display case when the lights went out for just a few moments.

416 Porn does tell the story. You have the great divide. Straight porn (which includes all the lesbo stuff) and then the gay. And never do the twain meet.

"Bisexual porn" falls into the tiny niche, fetish, really weirdo market. It's of no consequence.

So, who is watching porn? Men. And what do they dig. Women. Or Men. And they don't cross pollinate. The market is telling you the story.

448 I owned a tanning salon for sixteen years. Temptation was everywhere. My female employees had to tell me stuff like, "Don't you know that she likes you?"

It was grade-school innocence and I didn't much want to hear it because I wanted to provide a service. I wasn't there to "apply lotion". I was there to make sure that the bulbs were replaced and the place was clean, so as to earn a profit.

There were also OBVIOUS temptations, like the strip-club down the street. I'd gotten "various offers" to use the powerful stand-up unit, (not a euphemism), for free.

I wasn't nearly in touch with Jesus Christ back then, as I am now. I simply needed to earn a profit and "free" wasn't in my vocabulary.

I am tempted by words on a page and the clarity, boldness and sweetness of the 'Ettes; Clearly.

At Forty-Five years of age, however, I am driven by sleep and selfish motivation.

I ain't a prize.

If I couldn't be tempted and driven to a diversion of motivation in my Twenties, the lessening of the chance has been cleft en twain by my Forties.

...so there's that.

I don't mean to be a jerk. I simply say what I mean and mean what I say.

Don't Call After Ten.

Finish my beer then bed. 'Night all.

Well that's so nice of you to defend your friend and not me, Chi. He never said don't call me after 10 pm and did say that he is an insomniac and call me anytime. So I called him after 10 figuring he would be awake bc insomniac. Then I get his strongly worded email the next day like I ruined his life or something and was written by a lawyer. Offering forgiveness for me like I committed some kind of mortal sin or something for calling an insomniac after 10pm.

I did nothing wrong. Apologized profusely for unintentionly disturbing his precious sleep which he said he forgave me for. Here he is beating me over the head with this supposed transgression and bragging about how many other ettes he has had to get in line for disturbing his sleep.

I didn't even bring-up your nic when I talked about people calling me after midnight. You are not the only one, you know.

I really like you because of your relentlessness in abortion causes and your tenacity. Your insistence of the implementation of "The Pet Thread" is an essential cornerstone of a weekend.

I'm not going to tell you how you feel. That would be an egotistical and idiot move on my behalf.

I only hope that you feel better, soon.

471 So, I took my car in to be smogged today, and the smog guy says, "your muffler doesn't work right, I couldn't do the test."

Fixing exhaust systems is right up my alley -- you're trying to get rid of stuff anyway, so WGAS if it leaks? The only problem is that it's UNDER the car. When I move to somewhere civilized, I'm gonna have a hoist so that I can move cars to where it's convenient to work on them. I watched a Youtube video of a guy replacing the rear-most stage, and noticed that -- despite his being a young guy -- there were parts where he was panting. Mind you, it seemed straightforward and well-documented, but he was winded getting himself into the right spot with the right tools.

479 Maet - if jet-lag has you still here - that's quite interesting about FS Reloading, Lee, and the Pictor folks.

I'm an FS Reloading/Lee customer as well (a "red" reloading bench - with some dashes of green - from your neighborhood, as well). Sorry to hear about the health problems of the FS owner.

Think I got it from Titan - maybe FS - a few months ago ..... the new Auto-Drum powder measure from Lee. Wow. For ball/flake/"dust" (as I call Silhouette) powders, it's ridiculously consistent, and so easy to use. Just did some 9mm yesterday. Checked maybe 10-12 throws out of 50. To my eye, *exactly* the same on my RCBS 505 scale.

Speaking of which - and what in my experience has been an industry-wide experience - I bought the 505 used, along with most of my first (still current) set-up. It seemed balky. I emailed RCBS up in your neck of the woods - they said end it in.

A week later, a brand-new one shows up, no charge.

I have never, in all my consumer experiences, seen the sort of customer service and support I have found with reloading, and firearms in general. Lee is terrific, as you may know, with support and advice for their gear. Lee has also taken care of many things - from polishing up a 30 carbine die, to replacing decapping pins - for no charge, and with a smile.

Chatted online once with a tech at Brownell's - completely resolved my issue (which didn't even involve anything they sold me).

Have never seen a sector like reloading/firearms for customer support.

488 We got rid of vehicle inspections here in SC a few years ago, many maybe the way time is flying. Note this was not pollution control inspection, just general "in working order" inspection.

Various garages and mechanics would do it, but they were mandated by the state in what they could charge, and it wasn't enough. So it ended up being wink and nod. You'd go pay a guy the $3 or whatever it is, and he'd put a new sticker on your vehicle, and the state got a cut of even that.

Now, if someone they didn't know came up, they'd go through the motions or say come back later (it could be an inspector, and you were required to do inspections if you signed up).

It was nothing but a racket. Not for the mechanics, really, but for the state. They were helping you. You had to have the sticker, and they'd give you one, for the fee.

They finally ditched, to everyone's relief, with a few "safety Nazis" complaining.

I'm reminded of the passage from Theodore Dalrymple that propaganda in totalitarian regimes isn't intended to convince but rather to humiliate and make that much more difficult to resist. Everything above that just contributes to the general feeling of living in a nightmare.

I'm reminded of the passage from Theodore Dalrymple that propaganda in totalitarian regimes isn't intended to convince but rather to humiliate and make that much more difficult to resist. It seems we've reached that stage here, where you risk your livelihood by saying aloud you don't think a boy should be competing as a girl just because he wants to be one.

521 No means to do so. I'm pretty much stuck where I am. With my intermittent functionality and employment, I'm dependent on my family's forbearance to survive.

I don't try to make any long term plans. I'm increasingly convinced that a very a very ugly time is approaching sometime in the next decade or so. Somewhere in the world the financial patches will fail and it won't be contained to that country. This will lead to a lot of conflicts as a lot of desperate people find themselves in a broken world where their money is meaningless numbers and kindling. The people who've brought us to this point not only cannot stop it, they want it. What better time to cull the herd and remake the world as think it should be?

There was a time when I would have laughed at someone proposing such but at some point the choices of the elites stop looking like stupidity piled on top of stupidity and begin to seem more like a plan.

523 Fixing exhaust systems is right up my alley -- you're trying to get rid of stuff anyway, so WGAS if it leaks? The only problem is that it's UNDER the car. When I move to somewhere civilized, I'm gonna have a hoist so that I can move cars to where it's convenient to work on them. I watched a Youtube video of a guy replacing the rear-most stage, and noticed that -- despite his being a young guy -- there were parts where he was panting. Mind you, it seemed straightforward and well-documented, but he was winded getting himself into the right spot with the right tools.

Yeah, as you get older, the crawling on the ground, having dirt fall in your eyes thing gets old. I just made a deal this evening to buy a 9000 pound scissor lift for $600. Two long ramps you drive onto, and the lift raises the ramps to about 5.5 feet, giving one standing headroom under the middle of the vehicle. It lacks a hydraulic power pack, but those are easily obtained. I will probably set it up to use outside when the weather is fine.

-Marc

"P.S.: I forgive you and let this not weigh heavy on your soul. Might God continue to find you; and find you well. I wish you no ill-will, but a "line"
has been crossed and it shall go no further.

Please understand and respect my stance as I pray for you and your continued endeavors.

I will make no more mention of this anywhere, at any time. A lapse in reason is not even a sin and we ALL suffer from the Human Condition. I am not here to shame you. I was put on this earth to love my fellow man.

I pray that your troubles cease and you find peace..."

-Marc

P.S.II: "I ALWAYS have insomnia. That's what makes sleep such a blessing!"

That is the exact email I sent, Ma'am. I had to dig through shit to find that, but it is Word-for-Word what I sent.

If anyone finds that anything more than "forward", please let me know.

How you are "smearing me", personally? Please stop calling me a "prick". I didn't disparage you, yet you keep calling me "insincere" and someone who offers "false prayers".

I hate an argument that goes, 'I know many nice illegals', just as I hate the argument, 'I know many nice muslims'. That's not the point of immigration laws! We are either a Nation of Laws or we are not. If we are not, then everyone should quit paying federal income taxes.

That last point brings me to sanctuary cities. I so wish some city would pass a law that they are now a sanctuary city, and all residents are exempt from Federal income taxes. No different than granting illegals a safe space in their city, right? Both violate Federal law. But I'd bet the government would view those two 'sanctuaries' in quite a different manner, with quite a different response.

Sounds so simple, but... I went through that on my '97 Suburban. Big-ass flange, midway down the car, two 2.5" pipes, 3 stainless-steel studs. Gasket was blown out. One stud had cracked off. The other two twisted off when I tried to undo the nuts. Studs had splined shanks, and were tightly pressed into the flange. Location of frame crossmembers precluded getting a drill in there to drill them out. And you cannot cut readily cut stainless steel with a cutting torch. You melt a little bit, and blow it away with a jet of oxygen. Rinse and repeat, a dozen times. Then use a hammer and a long, long punch to drive out the husk of the stud.

And then I found the replacement gasket I'd ordered was the wrong size. Eventually I discovered that although the truck is a '97, the exhaust system was the same as '98 models. Mid-year change.

And I had it on a hoist. Still a massive PITA.

And there is way too much drama in here tonight. Three people, all of whom I respect, having hissy fits with each other. Please! Drop it down a cog.

549 L,

From this recent exchange, we don't know your name -- we know his is Marc. We don't know your problem -- we know his are insomnia, irritability, and his grandfather. We don't know your location -- his is Cleveland. We don't know your history -- we know he ran tanning salons.

How can he be humiliating you when he has disclosed nothing of substance about you while disclosing so much about himself? All that he has disclosed about you is that you had his phone number, you called after hours, and he spoke harshly to you -- for which, he has apologized.

Yes, you can call him a prick for having overreacted. Yes you can have grievances -- but I'm finding scant evidence to support "For that single transgression, he is hellbent on humiliating me. I alologized profusely. That wasn't enough. So here he is again demanding another pound of flesh."

558 Well, just poured me a rum and Coke, and used my 1939 San Francisco Worlds Fair icepick to chip some cubes free from the bag in the freezer.

Now, how would it happen that a Peon in Alberta has an icepick made to be sold as a souvenir for a fair nearly 80 years ago? The answer is "overtaken by technology". They made a metric fuckton of those icepicks, because, back in the day, "everybody" used an actual icebox to keep their food cool, and an icepick was a standard tool for the kitchen drawer. But in 1939, electric refrigerators, which had been around for close to 2 decades, finally achieved almost complete market penetration, and darned near nobody needed icepicks anymore.

So case after case of the darned things showed up in surplus markets and flea markets for decades thereafter, which is where the friend who gave me mine got his.

And it's a nifty icepick, too. Steel shank, shiny steel ferrule, and a varnished square wooden handle with red and black text pressed into it.

605 I should note that, being Irish, there are standards in how apologies are done. You have to show up -- pissant apologies at a distance are heavily discounted. You must have undergone a challenge -- slaying a creature or driving 100+ miles will work. You must bring alcohol aligned with your knowledge of the tastes of the recipient. You must submit to the convenience of the recipient as to time and place, and you must abase yourself and earnestly apologize for specific named wrongs done.

Only after this expiation can one freely behave as an equal.

608 Some things just lose their value if they become too easy. Nowadays, if there is any really great bit in an otherwise forgettable movie, chances are someone will feel the same and make a torrent just for that scene. Yet the interest is so much less.

Aside from nekkid women, one example is the saucer section crash landing in the first ST:TNG movie. Really the one great part of that movie in the waning days of models for such scenes. That was an example of something I'd stay on the same channel for if I knew it was coming up within a certain time frame, or I might switch back in time to catch it if nothing else held my interest.

I picked up a box set of three ST:TNG movies and never bothered to look at that scene. The only one I watched was the third because I hadn't bothered seeing it in the theater. It was pretty meh. Now I'm trying to sell off most of my DVDs because they take up more space than they're worth.

662 Reality, like fate is a fickle bitch. It is only what you perceive to be the truth. There is quite a bit of the puzzle missing when it comes to the Trump-Cruz dynamic.

It's a mystery right now. Not one that makes much difference but still a mystery.

I like mysteries. They can lead to all kinds of dead ends. However sometimes, not very often in my case, they can lead to a nugget of truth.

Sometimes also, a part of the mystery will make a mistake and reveal where a missing piece of the puzzle belongs.

Which leads to other questions.

And why not? What the fuck does Ryan care who wins in November? No matter Trump or Scankles, he'll still havea DC job, a hefty salary and all his Congressional goodies. And, if by some chance he's thrown out of his office, again, what does he care? He'll just parlay his insider contacts into a sweet lobbyist job or some make-work position on a board of directors somewhere.

Ryan is the poster boy for my modest political reform: every day, every officeholder in the country from DMV scrunt to Speaker of the House should be hauled out of their beds and put in front of a tribunal to explain why they should not immediately be strung up from the nearest lamppost.

Women vote in elections the same way they handle prom night in high school.

Guys like Trump are fucking the prom queen and her best friend under the bleachers.

Same thing will happen in November. Women will talk about how much fun it is to shop with the metrosexual, how sweet the nice guys are, but when it comes to who they're going to fuck, it's the bold, self confident bad boy.

I'm happy I missed the ONT last night. I hate to see a 'ron and 'ette I both like very much fighting.

735 The guy gets to compete against a bunch of girls, gets a trophy for cheating, is hailed as a hero in the media and then gets to shower with the girls--nice racket! And Roger Maris gets an asterisk?

Those Bulgarian Olympic weightlifters were ahead of their times.

736 Megan Fox is rich, right?

And I can feasibly get her to pay me "venture-capital investor" style money to pile different types of rocks in different formations to see if they "produce energy' like the pyramids surely did in ancient Egypt?

Damn, anyone got a phone number where I can pitch this "proposal" for "funding" before someone else gets there?

I'm sure for barely 20 million I can field test prototypes of every common igneous matter and basic geometric shapes to test for energy.
And if I don't find energy that way; maybe she'll shell out another couple million per test for more testing of other materials...
