4 Good Morning Morons. Today is Tuesday, September 08, 2015. On this day in 70 AD Romans under Titus sacked Jerusalem. Many gold artifacts from the temple were carried off to Rome as plunder. This will be an abbreviated news links this morning. I slept late and have no idea what time the morning thread will be posted.

5 German politicians are insane and they are largely responsible for creating the so-called "refugee" mess in Europe. How so, they have placed and arm-load of bait for millions of rats to come and harbor up in their kitchen. I also blame Greece who failed to stop the onslaught at their borders. And Germany is now saying they can take 500,000 of these muzzies a year. So any bets on how many stay there vs how many get farmed out to other countries like the US.

12 As long as Fox publishes extremely biased crap from AP they can never be called "fair and balanced".

Military prosecutors have reached into a section of military law seldom used since World War II in the politically fraught case against Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, the soldier held prisoner for years by the Taliban after leaving his post in Afghanistan.

If we were truly applying rules similar to what was done in WWII the traitor Bergdahl would have already been shot.

________

In the late 80s, a bridge collapsed in Upstate New York. It was part of the Thruway (Interstate 90) and the state needed some of the locals land for the temporary detour. The state paid fair market value; everyone was happy with what they were paid.

Except for one farmer who refused to part with his land. New York State kept upping their offer, even offered to build him a produce stand at a nearby Thruway stop. He responded by rallying a bunch of friends to block construction with tractors. (He even tried to get John Cougar Mellencamp to support his cause but he never came.)

In the end, the state invoked eminent domain and the farmer got "fair market value" for his property.

It has been sited as a basis in many subsequent rulings for takings. It is where the 5% number comes from. In that case the State of SC passed a new beach setback law which prohibited building anything at all on any beach front property unless it was some number of feet (a lot but I don't remember the actual number). It rendered his property which he had originally purchased for development to be virtually worthless.

.We used to live in Connecticut during the Kelo mess. That neighborhood used to be a fantastic place to walk our dogs. Less than 15 minutes from our house with Fort Trumbull right on the river and a area with no through streets and little traffic, now it is an abandoned disaster.

When SCOTUS ruled that the City of New London and the New London Development Corporation could take that property with no real plans other than "Pfizer promised us they would build stuff", I knew that the old rules for eminent domain were over.

Serves New London right that Pfizer not only backed out of all deals, but they abandoned one of their World Headquarters buildings in the City they never paid a dime of taxes on after the City gave them a 10 year tax break to build it.

My Samsung Android has no phone in it and does have a memory card slot. My telephone is an LG flip phone in which the battery is easily removable.

When I want a telephone I want a telephone, not an all purpose do everything device. However, the Samsung battery is not "user accessible". So I am going to have to see about making sure I have all my e-books backed up somewhere.

What I really need to do is make sure all my e-books are on the memory card. I had a hard time getting the device to recognize them when I tried moving them to the card before. When you download new books it defaults to the device internal memory.

76 If/when Obama starts sneaking in hundreds of thousands of Middle Eastern refugees and needs a place to dump them I would like to suggest Madison, Wisconsin. My liberal sisters and their families live there in their ethnically pure little liberal bubble. They worry about things like gay rights, global warming and corporations not paying enough taxes and are barely aware of the invasion we are experiencing that will make those issues and most others irrelevant. Seeing their little liberal utopia transformed overnight might actually wake them up. And why shouldn't we share they joys and benefits of diversity with our liberal brethren?

I presume you're talking about a tablet, not a phone.

My previous phone was a Samsung Galaxy S2. The flagship of its day. I accidentally bricked it a few months ago while trying to correct some of the really ill-conceived factory settings. Unbricking it requires some JTAG work that is out of my league and I haven't got around to finding someone local who can do it. Reviving it would be useful because it still has a lot of capabilities beyond being a phone, and draining its battery to read a book or otherwise kill time when stuck waiting somewhere is preferable to running down the current phone's battery. (My old Blackberry is my primary means of playing audio books in the car or walking around.)

One you get used to having a cell phone (I remember when the belt radios characters in a Heinlein story carried seemed so futuristic) having it go dead makes you feel imperiled. Or worse, in danger of looking posthumously stupid because you allowed your means of summoning aid to go dead.

Phones stopped being just phones for me a long time ago. It started with the Nextels in 90s, which spared us the need to carry both the phone and a radio for immediate on-site talk. That network is gone and to this day there is no replacement. The PTT support on phones today take so long to set up a connection you might as well just make a conventional call. For me, stuff like having a lot of documents on hand as PDFs and email is critical. There are a lot of jobs I do where if I didn't have at least email on my phone I'd be looked at like someone who showed up for a SCUBA dive with empty tanks.

German politicians are insane and they are largely responsible for
creating the so-called "refugee" mess in Europe. How so, they have
placed and arm-load of bait for millions of rats to come and harbor up
in their kitchen. I also blame Greece who failed to stop the onslaught
at their borders. And Germany is now saying they can take 500,000 of
these muzzies a year. So any bets on how many stay there vs how many get
farmed out to other countries like the US.

It amazes me how few of Ashley Madison's customers thought of this. Also, don't load it with a credit card. Get a debit card from a supermarket and load it with cash. Pay the phone carrier from that.

And email? How stupid do you have to be not to know of at least one place you can get a free email account to dedicate to a second identity.

91 There were a couple of interesting stories about the refugees in Europe. There is the story that Slovenia will take Christians but no Muslims. I would personally recommend that policy to every country in Europe. Heck, I would recommend that as an immigration policy for the United States.

Second, there is a story about a lot of refugees converting to Christianity. Even if they are not sincere, their conversion makes them subject to persecution and death in their home countries so they qualify for persecuted refugee status. The reasonable response to this should be that if we catch you setting foot inside a mosque, you will be on the next plane out of here.

101 I've all but quit consuming news. What I get, I get through sites like this, and a tiny few other places. I know. You don't need to tell me.

The reason for this, I think, is that I don't think probably ever in history has there been a time where more energy has been expended to protect the reputation of a miserable failure of a head of state than now.

The rise of the ultra-poor in this country goes nearly unreported. The rise of ultra-evil in the world likewise. The disappearance of eagles mainly because of "green energy". Look - you get the idea. The list could go on for literally days.

There will be monuments erected to Obama. Streets, schools, public buildings, even more permanent monuments - probably one or more mega monuments.

The true history of Obama will never be written.

Our children for generations, will believe that Obama was a great man.

It's probably not the first time in history that such a story of failure has been played off as something that it wasn't, but never on this scale.

It may even be possible that history from here on, may never be able to be trusted.

What a legacy we leave.

Yeah, I get the propaganda angle. But there is incredible, organized, coordinated effort that has gone into, from before he was ever elected, to hide the truth of Obama. When you consider the scale of the effort that has gone into essentially creating out of whole cloth - Obama - it boggles the mind. What has gone into this effort practically makes all of the tinfoil hat conspiracies of the past, look microscopic in scale.

And on top of just the fact that it has happened, is the scale of the disservice to history.

We look at the patriarchy being reduced to dust by ISIS - the fake history of Obama will rival this.

________________________

Yes, what we're seeing in Europe is a variation of the "unaccompanied minor surges" we've been seeing in the U.S. for several years now.

Word has gotten out to every poor, criminal, sick, and/or opportunistic person on the planet that they can come and live in rich countries like the U.S. or Germany or Austria and have taxpayers in those countries pay for all their needs/wants. All they have to do is get there. So they're coming by hook or by crook, and they'll tell whatever lies they think will allow them to stay or get them the most taxpayer-funded benefits once they get there. So they'll pretend to be "minors" when they're 35-year old Mexican and Guatemalan men with beards, or they'll pretend to be Syrians from active war areas, or they'll pretend to be Christians -- whatever it takes. And they're coming by the millions and they're not going to stop coming until the governments (and/or enough of the people) of the richer nations say: STOP!

The reaction should be worth a cell phone photo.

158 Reports are coming out now about Muslim "refugees" in Europe making phony "conversions" to Christianity in order to try and improve their chances of getting asylum in a rich western European country. Apparently the European gov-glitterati are unfamiliar with the term taqiyya -- meaning Muslims have official permission from their "god" to lie about anything and everything, as long as it helps them in their mission of world domination by Muslims.

And speaking of lying liars who lie, "migrants" in the U.S. have been getting coaching (from La Raza, U.S. government officials in ICE, etc.) to lie about their reasons for coming to the U.S. for years ("if you say you're afraid of being killed by gangs in your home country Raul, you'll get to stay and you'll get more U.S. dollars every month!").

This entire "refugee" scam -- both here and in Europe -- is a huge scam on taxpaying citizens; just a giant redistribution of your wealth, brought to you by filthy rich "social justice crusaders" like Barry Obama, the pope, Mark Zuckerburg, etc., all of whom have guarded, multi-million-dollar safe-haven mansions to retire to once they've finished ruining your lives.

The number of green cards that the administration can issue every year is also fixed by law. 231 Russia is building a drone submarine to deliver large-scale nuclear weapons against U.S. harbors and coastal cities, according to Pentagon officials.

The developmental unmanned underwater vehicle, or UUV, when deployed, will be equipped with megaton-class warheads capable of blowing up key ports used by U.S. nuclear missile submarines, such as Kings Bay, Ga., and Puget Sound in Washington state.

Details of the secret Russian nuclear UUV program remain closely held within the U.S. government.

The Pentagon, however, has code-named the drone Kanyon, an indication that the weapon is a structured Russian arms program.

The nuclear drone submarine is further evidence of what officials say is an aggressive strategic nuclear forces modernization under President Vladimir Putin. The building is taking place as the Obama administration has sought to reduce the role of nuclear arms in U.S. defenses and to rely on a smaller nuclear force for deterrence.

The College of Cardinals is not a legislative body, nor executive body, nor judicial body. In fact, I don't think it regularly meets as a body. Its purpose is to select the Pope (really the bishop of Rome) when there is a vacancy. There are Cardinals that serve in different offices under the Pope.

They have an excuse, Boehner and McConnell don't.

270 "Drudge says Iranian boats are 'confronting' the U.S. Navy on a daily
basis, asserting control over the Arabian Sea and Persian Gulf."

The Iranians did this routinely in the 1980s, too.

Instead of confronting the issue head-on, and putting naval air into place on a consistent basis, what was done instead was to order USN surface combatants to deal with the situation on their own hook.

What then resulted from a lack of long range interceptor air cover (with which those surface combatants had been designed and intended to work in tandem) was the awful accidental shooting down of an Iranian airliner by an Aegis cruiser, which was at the time being attacked by a flotilla of armed Iranian speedboats. An F-14 off a big deck carrier would have been able to vector to and identify the airliner at a distance.

Don't pay for a Navy and then not use it properly.

____________________

She'd better be careful. She might jog our memories about stuff she'd rather we forget.

Just the other day I was reading an article on Powerline, about how Hillary, when she was a non-producing partner at the Rose Law Firm in Arkansas, was nagging Bill (the governor) to get her more legal work to justify her overpaid existence. He complied and leaned on one of his corrupt buddies to send some business Hillary's way. She helped this corrupt Friend of Bill's scam a taxpayer-backed savings and loan out of millions of dollars. Later, when this era of her career was being investigated, she and her Rose Law buddy Web Hubbell (who was rewarded with a cushy, high-status fed gov job) got busy deleting all of Hillary's billing records from the Rose computer system, and stealing/hiding all the paper copies. Of course, as we all know, some of those paper billing records later turned up in the White House residence (conveniently, after the statute of limitations on Hillary's crimes had passed) with Hillary's fingerprints literally all over them.

Hillary is as corrupt as they come. But I doubt she wants to remind people of that inconvenient fact as she's "reintroducing" herself to voters.

298 Feeding the cat

Track the cat down, they don't come when called.

Sometimes they don't even react when I wave the bowl in front of them.

Watch them saunter up to the bowl sloooowwwly.

They might sniff at the food, look up and mew, like, wtf is this? (Same thing you always get, kitty!)

Sometimes even turn away without eating. (Oh, have you already eaten someone this morning?)

They tend to leave a little bit uneaten.

Then they wander off and clean themselves.

Feeding the dog

He's right there on time, or runs to me when called.

As I approach with the food bowl, he dances with delight. He'll wiggle and walk backwards and shake like a puppy. Funny to see in an old dog. It's a great reward for me.

When I set the bowl down - I love this ritual - no matter how late feeding may be, or how hungry he might be, the dog pauses, looks up at me, so I can pet him and say, "good dog," and then he chows down with enthusiasm.

His face doesn't come out of the bowl until it's clean.

Then he comes to me for more pets.

However, he isn't a very good mouser.

The Church will survive Francis. While I don't agree with much of his SJW rhetoric, I think his recent changes regarding annulment and the path to forgiveness for those who have had abortions is definitely a step in the right direction. Annulment was a very time-consuming and expensive process, and while the Church still considers abortion one of the gravest sins [those who have had or performed an abortion, and even those who support abortion (here's looking at you, Pelosi) are automatically excommunicated,] Francis has made it just a little easier for those who are truly repentent and long to be made whole in the eyes of God and the Church, to return to the flock.

These are, without caveat, good things.

Posted by: Catholic who agrees with FenelonSpoke at September 08, 2015 09:22 AM (E6RIJ)

300 "We have a serious issue right now, a very alarming situation where Catholic priests and bishops are saying and doing things that are against what the church teaches, talking about same-sex unions, about Communion for those who are living in adultery," the official said. "And yet the pope does nothing to silence them. So the inference is that this is what the pope wants"

304 Is Obama a fool or a knave? I'd say both. Yes, he's a lazy narcissistic who believes his words = deeds. However, he hates America and has been determined to remove America's strength and influence from the international stage. Part of this was arming Iran s they could take our place as the stabilizing force in the ME (I know, but people like the CIA Director whatshisname have been pushing this idea for many years - even before Obama's presidency).

Did he foresee *all* of the consequences? No. But he owns it because he has systematically chosen to abandon our allies and shrink in the face of our emboldened enemies.

309 I am Catholic.

The World's Worst Catholic(TM), it's true but still...

My understanding of the College of Cardinals is that they also act in advising the Pope, not just voting for one,

and I thought I remember learning that under extraordinary circumstances, they could act to remove a Pope, or perhaps provide the equivalent of a Reagent.

Or I may be totally misremembering that.

And yes, I believe if Pope Francis is "fundamentally transforming" the Church by adopting the Anglicans' essentially toddler-like behavior in chasing after whatever the newest, shiny, leftard object is-

instead of hewing to doctrine, then yes, he is flushing the Church down the toilet.

The humidity out there is awful even though the temp is only 77. I would hate to be trying to do yard work.

315 Hillary is officially toast. The NYT reports without equivocation that she is guilty of using her homebrew email system for transmission of classified items and that it doesn't matter whether or not she "knew" they were classified. Sure, the Times reports the usual nonsense obfuscations from her campaign and the State Department, but this is now way past politics. The referral to the Justice Department will need some action, and-- at best -- she gets off while her underlings go to jail. But she will need to retire from the campaign.

I expect to see face-saving all around: Gammy's health issues make a sudden comeback, causing her to end her run, the investigation closes with fines, career-ending security clearances pulled for everyone involved, a long negotiation over other penalties, and Biden is the nominee.

When the Lamb broke the fifth seal, I saw underneath the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God, and because of the testimony which they had maintained; and they cried out with a loud voice, saying, "How long, O Lord, holy and true, will You refrain from judging and avenging our blood on those who dwell on the earth?"

The advantage that progressives have over conservatives is that they uniformly and truly believe in the joys of a totalitarian state where they get to regulate everyone else's lives down to the smallest detail and get to use armed force to ensure everyone "enjoys" absolute state control. I would agree if we're talking about someone like Henry VIII. But what about those who truly just made a mistake and married a scoundrel? Someone who never loved them, or beat them? Someone who refused to consummate the marriage or have children? Someone who carried on affairs?

Should the innocent one suffer years of inquisition because the guilty party will not cooperate? Should the innocent one be denied the chance to find a truly loving partner to build a life and a family with because they made the mistake of trusting a scoundrel in their youth?

333 How much worse can it get ?

Well ... a bunch. A great big damn bunch. The poorest of us have access to material goods not available to the richest a century ago. You still have rights that Warsaw Jews would have gladly taken if only offered. This current "suffering" would have been mocked by those living through Stalin or the French Revolution.

This isn't suffering in any sense. This is that feeling you get at the top of the first drop on the roller coaster ... except this isn't a theme park.

Why not just totally devote your life to God and give up looking for another spouse?

Perhaps "accidentally" marrying a scoundrel shows you that other things are more important.

338 "Annulment was a very time-consuming and expensive process,"

Actually, the cost Is approximately $500, although I have heard in some diocese they cost less. ( yes, I know this because I have one, circa 2004) as for drawn out?
The Church requires that the couple be legally divorced before proceedings start. Then, the orocess involves an interview with a priest who explains the process and helps to guide the applicant. Some people really do not want it, some aren't ready, some just need direction and some need an explanation as to how to proceed. Them, the applicant must self-examine and write, answering questions that bring to light where/why, exactly the sacrament was not a valid union.
Two witnesses must then also answer the nearly same questions without discussing it among themselves. This part of the process is cathartic and takes only as long as everyone takes to answer the questions ( I typed at my computer for days and days until 4am) Once these are submitted, the Tribunal informs the other spuse who can make a rebuttal or contest. My ex didn't want to contest, but only replied to give his side. Then, we were all called in ( me, one witness and the ex) separately for a short interview and a couple of months later, I received my annulment. ( It was actially stamped with the date of the exact day I threw my wedding band into the Tiber River, and yes, I have the photos to prove it...) so from start to finish, this entire process took about ten months.

The purpose of an annullment is to heal and to reexamine. It was truly an eye-opening experience for me.

Posted by: RondinellaMamma at September 08, 2015 09:53 AM (oQQwD)

339 Also, people get remarried all the time without seeking annulments. If you do so, you may not take Communion. That's it. You can still receive other available sacraments ( confession; extreme unction)
Many couples disregard the communion caveat and many priests ignore it too.
