Now that zero has laid out more of his plans for the destruction of the country I'm sure the GOP will quickly move to do nothing. We keep thinking that the national nightmare will be over in a couple of years but I see nothing at this point that indicates that will be true. We'll get some mealy mouthed candidate who will lose to hilldog or the equivalent and then 8 more years of SSDD.
I'm an optimist in general but reality trumps optimism every time. Its really disheartening.

The only reason I took the Geology class was because I registered late after getting laid off and I needed to to fill my schedule until I can get into the Physics rotation next semester. A lot of the upper level courses are only offered every other semester or even every other year.

All the people at work are rather pessimistic about the 7 days of sick leave thing. We all figure that we'll definitely lose our two personal days (two days we can take no matter what, no matter how many people have taken vacation.) and possibly lose a week ofvacation time (40 hours).

Granted it's not great that we only get sick days if we're so sick we have to go to the hospital and have a doctor sign a script saying we need to stay home, which is then good for three days. It means we've had colds and theflu sweep through on a regular basis.
As far as I'm concerned going to the doctor because I have a cold, is a waste of both my time and the doctor's. I just usually go to bed as soon as possible. Would it be nice to be able to just call in sick? Yes, but I'd rather have my vacation time, simply because I'm too honest to use sick days other than when I've very, very sick.

If the football was "soft enough" to make a difference, one would think that the refs would notice.
There are other ways to cheat. Kinda risky giving the item to the ref each play.

We saw once again what all of the "if you don't vote for the establishment candidate you are effectively voting for the opposition" bullshit got us.
Just like every other recent election, the Republicans snatch the ball away at the last second.
Especially at this time, with the platform of social media, a voter revolt is at least minimally feasible. Feasible enough at least where it might send a message that would finally get through.
The reason why what is happening in this country continues to happen is because it is profitable to the people in charge. Human nature is in control of politics instead of patriotic altruism. Until there is a cost for perpetual political self interest in Washington, things will not change.

I see that the preliminary tests were conducted during the game.
Was the follow on pressure test during the actual investigation conducted at the same temperature, or at a higher/lower temperature.
Were the balls used by the Colts also tested, and if so, what were the findings.
Perhaps the Pats are a team that is both very good...and a team that cheats.

1 - air doesn't weigh much, an under-inflated ball and a fully inflated ball would weigh almost the same and not be detectable unless you had a scale with about 4 decimal places.
2 - Ideal Law of Gases PV=nRT
means that as the temperature goes down, so does either the pressure or volume of the gas. If the balls were verified indoors before the game and then brought outside to the cold, its no wonder they lost pressure. Were the Colts balls checked for same ?

I would assume it would be at a slightly lower absolute pressure, but the same gauge pressure.

In theory, you would have to put less air in the football to obtain the same pressure inside the ball because the opposing pressure outside the ball is less than lower altitude locations.
So if you inflated it in New York and brought it to Denver, the pressure would increase. (Thats why your ears pop on an airplane)

Also, speaking as a guy who played tight end in college, the air pressure in the ball makes a big difference when catching/throwing the ball in the cold and especially wet conditions.
This is just another in the long line of NFL fuckups this year. I really barely even care anymore. Give me a FCS or high school game any day. Also Goodell will cock this up for sure to protect his favorite owner Krafty Bob.
Finally, the teams use the balls on their own sideline. They don't use the same ones. That's how someone on the Pats sideline changes only their balls. When the Colt player intercepted a pass, he noticed that the ball is soft.

So, day before yesterday, the dentist (finally) re-filled my lost filling. Hooray for modern painless dentistry! I'm a time-traveler from the 1950s where, not only was it was more primitive, but the family dentist's idea of "painless" was "Buck up, kid. You can take it."

My cousin in the hospital woke up enough to pull the feeding tube out of her nose and fight off the nurses trying to re-insert it. And she only has use of one arm. Good to know she has her fire. Thanks for prayers & thoughts for her continuing recovery. She's improving a little.

The furnace guy came out yesterday, assessed that it was indeed the vent fan that was shot, and said he could be back out here in the afternoon today to replace it. So, looks like we won't have mid-Winter heat interruption. Meanwhile, the vent fan sounds like a truck engine.

This reminds me...a few years back, I was active in Kiwanis Club. Our local chapter had a tradition of saying the pledge of allegiance at the opening of every meeting followed by a brief rendition of the first couple verses of "My Country 'Tis of Thee."
One of our most animated and leading members was a WWII vet with two silver stars and a bronze star who had participated in the D-Day landing and the Battle of the Bulge, as part of the 4th ID I believe.
He sang louder than anyone else in the room and with such spirit, gave me chills every single time. No longer with us, I'm sad to say. A remarkable man all around.

There's a fun demo you can do about socks: have a couple kids put on one cotton and one wool sock, spill about a cup of water on a concrete floor, and have them slide through it and then walk for a minute. They get the message real fast.

Most QBs don't like the brand new balls, so a lot of teams take them out early and rough them up. But that's why there are standards the teams have to meet- so that you can have a pretty good idea of how the ball is going to feel.
Moving from outside that standard is where the problem lies.
And as for the league providing the balls- I wouldn't have a problem with that, but I think right now they put down getting to provide your own game balls (tweaked, within the rules, how you like them) as part of "home field advantage."

I did a backpacking trip in snow with a synthetic sock, plastic bag, and wool sock layer under trail running shoes. Able to walk through snow and icy water with no problem. The wool sock insulated and dried quickly when wet, the plastic kept my foot dry and held warmth in, and the inner synthetic sock wicked moisture away and prevented blisters.
I was pretty amazed how well it worked. Much more comfortable than boots, too.

Brought back memories of doing the exact same thing with my mother in her 90s. She was so frail, but wanted to feel like she could help do something, so we folded socks, washcloths and hand towels fresh out of the dryer.
I miss her.....

Bush wanted Iraq to be stable, as free as possible, and allied to the West. It was to be the stable, countervaling force that Iran was befrore the Shah fell.This was no different from seeking better relations with Egypt and maintaining close ties with Israel.
This asshole sees Iran doing that. it will dominate, and threaten israel, which he hates.

Of course there have been countless incidents of game balls at all levels of baseball being doctored, either by the pitcher, or by teams that store them in a freezers, in humidity, in high heat, etc.
What advantages they give, I do not know. It's a cat and mouse game sometimes, and as long as there have been organized sports there has always been a mentality that it's only cheating if you get caught. I can understand that, again, up to a point.
In the end, the under-inflated balls thing is such a silly matter, precisely because this game was so outrageously beyond that nonsense. At this point, it's all about Pats haters, hating on the Pats.
Which I can accept. I mean, if this was the Giants, I'd be calling for Eli (Chelsea) Manning to be castrated. That is, if he had any balls in the first place. Which he doesn't.

I know you all hate Obama, but you have to admit things are better off than in 2008.
Instead of trashing Obama, why not come up with better ideas that can win over voters.
In the midterms that just passed, many Republican candidates ran positive campaigns and they won.
So far for the upcoming Presidential campaign, i see nothing but negativity from Republicans
Many Republicans are talking about social issues which is a turn off or racial crap.
Why not run on uniting Americans and making this a better place for all.
