Bloody Elena

Elena Kagan is making me start to wish... nah, I better not say what I think:

Before the Senate Judiciary Committee a short time ago, Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan appeared reluctant to admit that she wrote a 1996 Clinton White House memo aimed at altering a key medical group's opinion of whether partial birth abortion is medically necessary. The memo, reported yesterday by National Review, has caused a stir in conservative circles because it appeared that Kagan, then a White House policy aide, put words in the medical group's mouth in order to soften its position on the controversial procedure. But when Republican Sen. Orrin Hatch brought the subject up with Kagan, he had a hard time getting her to admit that she did, in fact, write the document in question.

"Did you write that memo?" Hatch asked.

"Senator, with respect," Kagan began, "I don't think that that's what happened — "

"Did you write that memo?"

"I'm sorry — the memo which is?"

"The memo that caused them to go back to the language of 'medically necessary,' which was the big issue to begin with — "

"Yes, well, I've seen the document — "

"But did you write it?"

"The document is certainly in my handwriting."

Kagan doesn't want to admit that she is an pro-infanticide zealot, nor that she twisted the position of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) on late-term abortion to suit her political goals.

The inherent dishonesty in her character and her blood-thirsty ideological bent proves she is in no way suited for the Supreme Court. Senate Republicans and pro-life Democrats must filibuster Kagan.

A killer's accomplice is hardly fit to be judge.

Elena Mengele Kagan

Power Line has what they describe as the "smoking gun" that should destroy Solicitor General Elena Kagan's bid for the Supreme Court, pointing to Shannen W. Coffin's explosive revelation at NRO.

While working for the Clinton Administration, Kagan committed intentional fraud, rewriting a statement from a medical organization to protect the beastly practice of partial birth abortion, a practice the medical experts said had no legitimate need.

The initial draft said that the ACOG panel "could identify no circumstances under which this procedure . . . would be the only option to save the life or preserve the health of the woman." That language horrified the rabidly pro-abortion Elena Kagan, then a deputy assistant to President Clinton for domestic policy. This is what Kagan wrote in a memo to her superiors in the Clinton White House:

Todd Stern just discovered that the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) is thinking about issuing a statement (attached) that includes the following sentence: "[A] select panel convened by ACOG could identify no circumstances under which [the partial-birth] procedure ... would be the only option to save the life or preserve the health of the woman." This, of course, would be disaster -- not the less so (in fact, the more so) because ACOG continues to oppose the legislation. It is unclear whether ACOG will issue the statement; even if it does not, there is obviously a chance that the draft will become public.

So Kagan took matters into her own hands: incredibly, she herself appears to have written the key language that eventually appeared in the ACOG report.

Kagan's radical left wing ideology dictated that she commit brazen fraud to support the revolting practice of infanticide after medical experts declared there is no medical justification for partial birth abortion.

Elena Kagan lied. She took a report from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) and distorted it to say precisely the opposite of what the group concluded.

Read the entire article. Read Powerline's conclusion.

Elena Kagan shouldn't be on the Court.

She should be on trial in front of one.

Republican and pro-life Democrat Senators have a sacred duty to filibuster Elena Kagan's nomination to the Supreme Court, and any Senator that does not standard against this monster's nomination should be targeted for replacement.

Elena Kagan is not judicial material. She's a zealot, and one utterly without morals.

Eco-Friendly Terrorist Killing

Environmentally-conscious jihadists will be thrilled to discover that the U.S. Army will now be now be shooting at them with "green" ammunition:

The Army announced today it has begun shipping its new 5.56mm cartridge, the M855A1 Enhanced Performance Round, to support warfighters in Afghanistan.

The new M855A1 round is sometimes referred to as "green ammo."

The new round replaces the current M855 5.56mm cartridge that has been used by U.S. troops since the early 1980s.

The M855A1 resulted in a number of significant enhancements not found in the current round, officials said. They explained these include improved hard-target capability, more dependable, consistent performance at all distances, improved accuracy, reduced muzzle flash and a higher velocity.

During testing, the M855A1 performed better than current 7.62mm ball ammunition against certain types of targets, blurring the performance differences that previously separated the two rounds.

The projectile incorporates these improvements without adding weight or requiring additional training.

According to Lt. Col. Jeffrey K. Woods, the program's product manager, the projectile is "the best general purpose 5.56mm round ever produced."

"The best general purpose 5.56mm round ever produced."

I can't decide... is that an oxymoron?

SCOTUS Rules for Gun Rights (Updated with Opinion)

Richard Daley and Mike Bloomberg must be sharing a stroke:

In its second major ruling on gun rights in three years, the Supreme Court Monday extended the federally protected right to keep and bear arms to all 50 states. The decision will be hailed by gun rights advocates and comes over the opposition of gun control groups, the city of Chicago and four justices.

Justice Samuel Alito wrote for the five justice majority saying "the right to keep and bear arms must be regarded as a substantive guarantee, not a prohibition that could be ignored so long as the States legislated in an evenhanded manner."

The ruling builds upon the Court's 2008 decision in D.C. v. Heller that invalidated the handgun ban in the nation's capital. More importantly, that decision held that the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms was a right the Founders specifically delegated to individuals. The justices affirmed that decision and extended its reach to the 50 states. Today's ruling also invalidates Chicago's handgun ban.

Update: MCDONALD ET AL. v. CITY OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS,ET AL. opinion (PDF, 214 pages).

The key point:

JUSTICE ALITO delivered the opinion of the Court with respect toParts I, II–A, II–B, II–D, III–A, and III–B, concluding that the Fourteenth Amendment incorporates the Second Amendment right, recognized in Heller, to keep and bear arms for the purpose of self-defense.

Update: Over at Alan Colmes Liberaland, the first thoughtful left wing commenter opines:

I say every black man in America should own a gun and we should show up at the next tea baggers klan rally and see if they will have the same heart to call black people nini&&ers as they did when they call John Lewis a ni&&er

Bigoted New Yorker Ron Jackson would be surprised that the leader of the Tea Party in his city (as much as the Tea Party has leaders) is black, as are some of the armed protesters we've seen. Not that reality matters. It won't be intruding into the left's hate, no matter what the occasion.

Frummage

I don't do a whole lot of "inside baseball"-type blogging anymore (I pretty much ignored Charles Johnson's returning to the liberal left and Dave Weigel's much more recent collapse at the Washington Post), but found this story from John Hawkins interesting.

Cocktail circuit Republican David Frum apparently asked to join the Blogads Conservative Blogging Hive (full disclosure: I am a member of both the conservative hive and the Military Hive on Blogads, and they both promote great stuff).

John Hawkins of Right Wing News manages the Blogads Conservative hive, and denied Frum's inclusion, since Frum seems to mainly exist to be a critic of conservatives and the conservative movement.

The real story seems not to be Frum's exclusion, but that his representative then took what John interpreted to be a threatening tone, suggesting that the exclusion was "newsworthy."

I can't read the mind of Frum's rep, and don't know if issuing a veiled threat was really his intent, but if it was, it was a entirely toothless threat. David Frum may carry some weight among dead-tree media, but his influence in the new media is low, and fading, as is his influence on new media's advertisers.

Instead of issuing threats, perhaps Frum could start his own hive of blogs. There has to be a market for his kind of writing. Disappearing creams, maybe.

Off To that Great Klavern In the Sky

Well, "in the sky" might be a little too optimistic:

Senator Robert Byrd of West Virginia, the longest-serving senator in American history, died Monday at the age of 92, a spokesman for the family said.

Byrd, a Democrat who served in the U.S. Senate since 1959, had been plagued by health problems in recent years and was confined to a wheelchair. He had skipped several votes in Congress in the past months.

Jesse Jacobs, a family spokesman, said Byrd died peacefully at about 3 a.m. at Inova Hospital in Fairfax, Va.

He was the oldest member of the 111th Congress and the last Exalted Cyclops in a long and embarrassing line of "reformed" Ku Klux members in the Democratic Party.

I may have edited that last line a little bit for the sake of accuracy.

Let Them Eat Cake...

...or custard.

Vice President Joe Biden called the manager of a custard shop outside of Milwaukee, Wisc. a "smartass" after the man asked him to lower taxes.
Biden made the comment after the Kopp's Frozen Custard shop manager told him that his dessert would be on the house if he lowered taxes.

"What do we owe you?" Biden is heard saying in footage captured by WISN-TV.

"Don't worry, it's on us," the manager replied. "Lower our taxes and we'll call it [the custard] even."

"Why don't you say something nice instead of being a smartass all the time," Biden said a few minutes later.

Biden had walked in to Kopp's mistakenly asking for ice cream instead of custard.

Governed by Fools

They mismanage wars, economies, and even disasters:

The Dutch know how to handle maritime emergencies. In the event of an oil spill, The Netherlands government, which owns its own ships and high-tech skimmers, gives an oil company 12 hours to demonstrate it has the spill in hand. If the company shows signs of unpreparedness, the government dispatches its own ships at the oil company's expense. "If there's a country that's experienced with building dikes and managing water, it's the Netherlands," says Geert Visser, the Dutch consul general in Houston.

In sharp contrast to Dutch preparedness before the fact and the Dutch instinct to dive into action once an emergency becomes apparent, witness the American reaction to the Dutch offer of help. The U.S. government responded with "Thanks but no thanks," remarked Visser, despite BP's desire to bring in the Dutch equipment and despite the no-lose nature of the Dutch offer --the Dutch government offered the use of its equipment at no charge. Even after the U.S. refused, the Dutch kept their vessels on standby, hoping the Americans would come round. By May 5, the U.S. had not come round. To the contrary, the U.S. had also turned down offers of help from 12 other governments, most of them with superior expertise and equipment --unlike the U.S., Europe has robust fleets of Oil Spill Response Vessels that sail circles around their make-shift U.S. counterparts.

Why does neither the U.S. government nor U.S. energy companies have on hand the cleanup technology available in Europe? Ironically, the superior European technology runs afoul of U.S. environmental rules. The voracious Dutch vessels, for example, continuously suck up vast quantities of oily water, extract most of the oil and then spit overboard vast quantities of nearly oil-free water. Nearly oil-free isn't good enough for the U.S. regulators, who have a standard of 15 parts per million -- if water isn't at least 99.9985% pure, it may not be returned to the Gulf of Mexico.

Why, why do liberals place such blind trust in legendary incompetence of government bureaucrats, instead of the ingenuity of the people?

Change? The Pending "Oilcane" Disaster

Doug Ross stares into the eye of the pending environmental disaster of an oil-fueled Gulf coast hurricane, and places the blame squarely at the feet of the incompetent spill response of the Obama Administration.

The recovery period after a hurricane can take years. It was 10 years until some communities fully recovered from Hurricane Andrew in South Florida, some never recovered at all. The New Orleans area is still putting itself back together after Katrina in 2005. The recovery period after an oil-soaked hurricane -- or what could be called an Oilicane – is impossible to forecast but it could take years and many billions of dollars. One wonders if BP has the money to survive such a unique disaster. The human and natural losses from such an event could be historic.

There's that word again: historic. Everything about this administration is historic -- and none of it in a good way.

Should, heaven forbid, the world's first Oilcane wreak havoc in the Southeast, one man will have to shoulder substantial blame. One man's legacy will be utter economic and environmental ruin. One man's unsuitability for the highest office in the land will be crystal clear even to the most obtuse observer.

I've been through a number of minor-to-moderate hurricanes, have seen trees crashing down around me on cars and buildings. When I return to my hometown of Greenville, NC to visit family, I can still see the scars from Hurricane Floyd's floodwaters.

I can't even begin to fathom the environmental disaster of a hurricane compounded by the sludge of oil. It may simply kill entire sections of the coast, rendering large areas toxic wastelands unacceptable for habitation.

Obama's Democrats own the Deepwater Horizon disaster, lock, stock and oil barrel.

That will be a comfort to no one.

Nancy Pelosi warned that if we don't continue trying to mask our current depression by spending money we don't have, then people might realize how badly they've ruined the country and toss her and other progressives off the nearest tall building.

Or something like that.

"They Have Only Intentions of Destroying"

At Verum Serum, progressive radical Elena Herrada takes to the stage to compare Border Patrol agents to the Ku Klux Klan.

The Obama Administration apparently feels much the same way:

The Obama administration has tapped an outspoken critic of immigration enforcement on the local level to oversee and promote partnerships between federal and local officials on the issue.

Harold Hurtt, a former police chief in Houston and Phoenix, has been hired as the director for the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Office of State and Local Coordination. Starting July 6, Hurtt will supervise outreach and communication between ICE, local law enforcement agencies, tribal leaders and representatives from non-governmental organizations.

"Chief Hurtt is a respected member of the law enforcement community and understands the concerns of local law enforcement leaders," said John Morton, the Homeland Security assistant secretary for ICE. "His experience and skills will be an invaluable asset to the ICEs outreach and coordination efforts."

But as a police chief, Hurtt was a supporter of "sanctuary city" policies, by which illegal immigrants who don't commit crimes can live without fear of exposure or detainment because police don't check for immigration papers.

Confirmed: Huffington Post Readers Every Bit As Buggered As You Suspected

We've long known that the community-based reality is fond of creating their own "truth" to justify their ideological beliefs, and the claim that it is raining oil in Louisiana is just the latest example of that constructed world.

The article includes video purporting to show evidence of oily rain, but what it clearly shows is an asphalt parking area where years of oil leaks from cars have left dark splotches of used oil on the ground. Being lighter than water, the oily film floats as the puddles form, just as they have everywhere automobiles have run, for decades.

See for yourself.

But that bit of reality doesn't sit well for HuffPo-ers, who responded to a poll questioning the likelihood of oily rain by declaring that it "Looks like oily rain to me!" by a whopping 47.59%. The next most popular result was "I'm skeptical" (25.02%), followed by the obviously correct answer "It's probably just dirty roads" garnering just 27.39% of the vote.

Should we be encouraged that a slim majority of HuffPo readers weren't convinced that this obvious dark fantasy isn't real, or should we be depressed that only 27.39% are grounded enough in reality to recognize a clear fake?

MoveOn.org Scrubs Infamous Ad From Site

Really, does it make the least little bit of difference?

Nothing has changed. MoveOn.org still hates the military, and General Petraeus in particular. They still feel anger that their terrorist friends were beaten in Iraq, and they're holding out hope that the Taliban will " teach us a lesson" in Afghanistan.

They are trying to hide who they are, but it is far, far too late.

Selfless Warrior

President Obama's hand-picked general to lead the war in Afghanistan barely held ground against the Taliban, and was losing the bureaucratic battle to Obama's even more inept civilian appointees; an incompetent ambassador, a clueless national security advisor, and of course, a defeatist President. Instead of losing Afghanistan due to incompetent Democratic leadership, Gen. Stanley McCrystal fragged his civilian leadership and his career, to open the door for the next general and give him a chance to win where McCrystal was not allowed.

Into this gap steps General David Petraeus, the general who broke Sunni and Shia insurgencies in Iraq and ended the war there are clearly as any insurgency can ever be defeated.

Most will applaud General Petraeus' decision to take command in Afghanistan, as it seems logical to have the architect of one counterinsurgency success take over what appears on the surface to be a similar effort.

But what most will not realize is that General Petraeus demoted himself to lead this war. The general who led Americas' efforts in the entire region is stepping back down to take over one grinding, thankless campaign.

By doing so he risks his legacy. He risks defeat in a land where outsiders have battled and lost for a thousand years. But he knows—better than any of us—that he is the best man to lead this fight. If anyone can win this war, he can.

God be with you General, and those in your command.

Obama Threatens to Issue Blanket Amnesty Via Executive Order?

Please tell me this rumor is absurd.

Several Senators have learned of a possible plan by the Obama Administration that would provide a mass Amnesty for the nation's 11-18 million illegal aliens. Led by Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), eight Senators addressed a letter to the President asking for answers to questions about a plan that would allow DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano to provide an amnesty if they can't secure enough votes for a bill in the Senate.

The letter that was sent to Pres. Obama earlier today asks the President for clarification on the use of deferred action or parole for illegal aliens. The executive actions are typically used in special cases and are evaluated on a case-by-case basis, but if 60 votes can't be secured in the Senate to pass a mass Amnesty, the Administration may use the discretionary actions as an alternative.

Go to NumbersUSA for the text of the letter Sens. Grassley, Hatch, Vitter, Bunning, Chambliss, Isakson, Inhofe, and Cochran sent to the White House.

Blanket amnesty for millions of illegal aliens would qualify as an obvious abuse of power by the Obama Administration and in my opinion, also qualify as a clear and present danger to U.S. sovereignty. Would such an executive order amount to treason by President Obama?

I'm sure President Kick-Ass will have his attorneys and sycophants claim that that he has the authority to issue pardons and parole, but that power was never, never intended to be used to grant millions of criminal aliens citizenship in direct contravention of U.S. law.

Michelle Malkin has more on this travesty, and her comment thread on this topic is worth reading.

We are saddled with a President who cares far more about the freedoms of criminal aliens, drug smugglers and terrorists than he does the rights of the American people.

I just don't see this nation surviving until January 20, 2013 with this duplicitous, dangerous man in the White House.

Obama Continues Effort to Wreck The Gulf

Oil from the Deepwater Horizon drilling disaster is threatening the estuary marshes and wetlands of the Mississippi delta, potentially destroying the vital nurseries of hundreds or thousands of species, including commercially and recreationally important species of fish, shellfish, and waterfowl. Louisiana has taken matters into their own hands, creating sand barriers to slow or stop the oil's intrusion.

The Obama government's response? Sabotage.

The federal government is shutting down the dredging that was being done to create protective sand berms in the Gulf of Mexico.

The berms are meant to protect the Louisiana coastline from oil. But the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Department has concerns about where the dredging is being done.

Plaquemines Parish President Billy Nungesser, who was one of the most vocal advocates of the dredging plan, has sent a letter to President Barack Obama, pleading for the work to continue.

Nungesser said the government has asked crews to move the dredging site two more miles farther off the coastline.

"Once again, our government resource agencies, which are intended to protect us, are now leaving us vulnerable to the destruction of our coastline and marshes by the impending oil," Nungesser wrote to Obama.

Ideologically-driven pissants and list-checking bureaucrats led by the wimp in the White House have done nothing to help the Gulf coastal states, and have thrown up a series of absurd roadblocks that not only threaten to create billions of dollars in economic losses, but may kill entire ecosystems.

The Obama Administration continues to impede emergency efforts for the most absurd reasons.

We must ask the obvious question: is the White House purposefully sabotaging emergency efforts to save vital wetlands in order to serve a radical political agenda? Does Obama really think that wrecking rescue efforts to save coastal communities and delicate ecosystems actually makes his cap-and-trade fantasy more palatable?

Mexican Cartels Threaten U.S. Cops

While Obama dithers and panders, the drug lords smell weakness and openly threaten American police:

Police officers in a small Arizona border city are on heightened alert following a tip that a Mexican drug cartel will put them in its crosshairs if they conduct off-duty busts.

The threat stems from a marijuana seizure made this month by two off-duty police officers riding on horseback in an unincorporated area east of Nogales, a city of roughly 20,000, Police Chief Jeffrey Kirkham told FoxNews.com.

"The word was that these particular officers would be targeted if they were ever in that area again and were not on duty and intercepted any drug trafficking," Kirkham said. "It said they should look the other way."

The unidentified officers were able to confiscate roughly 400 pounds of marijuana during the seizure in early June at a known smuggling corridor along the U.S.-Mexican border where there is "relatively no fencing," Kirkham said. No arrests were made, and the smugglers were able to retreat into Mexico.

These police officers did more off duty to protect this nation and our children from drugs than President Obama has ever has on the job. As a result of the Obama Administration pandering to illegal aliens in hopes of converting them to Democratic voters, law enforcement officers on the border are forced to go armed at all times.

The government's continued indifference is a betrayal of the men and women who do they best they can to protect us and our children from violent cartels and the poison they sell.
