ACLU and Sedition
Read the following paragraph and see what you think about it:
Because our own military enemies are now using techniques of propaganda which may involve an attempt to prevent the Bill of Rights to serve the enemy rather than the people of the United States, [our group will] not participate in defense of any person believed to be “cooperating” with or acting on behalf of the enemy.
Does that sound reasonable to you? Would you like to associate with a group that has that statement as part of their official policy? How about this one:
[Our group] bars recipients of its funds from engaging in any activity that “promotes violence, terrorism, bigotry, or the destruction of any state."
Does that sound like an organization to which you would belong to? For those who think the ACLU does good, you might be surprised at their position on those two statements.

Awesome job Ogre! You said very elegantly what I was attempting to get across with my post. Simple, to the point truth. Thanks,Jay

I just really can't see how people can honestly say that the ACLU is good when they quite clearly and obviously support terrorists and oppose America, despite their lies about "civil rights."

I am going to be the voice of dissent and say the as a card carrying member of the ACLU, you couldn't be more wrong. The organization, while admittedly extreme, is there to protect everyone's rights, regardless of whether you agree with their views or not. They have been know to help a few conservatives in their day as well, stopping Rush Limbaugh's personal medical records from being released for example. I believe myself to be a true American patriot by supporting them.

4
Even seeing this data, you still believe in the ACLU? Do you honestly believe that terrorists should have the freedom to kill you? Do you believe that terrorists should have freedom to kill your family and small children? The ACLU does.
And you're right, I don't agree with their views -- they agree and financially support people who want me dead.

I don't know where you got those quotes from so I'm not going stand by them. The ACLU, one of the oldest organizations in this country, is basically a group of lawyers who try to defend the Civil Liberties of Americans. They are not affiliated with any political party. They are the ones who push back when our own government goes too far, i.e. the Patriot Act. I'm sorry to hear so many people want their rights taken away from them. Those rights that we are supposedly fighting in Iraq to keep. Are you willing to live in a dictatorial state?
Posted by: brooklynkat at July 29, 2005 01:08 PM (2KUyv)
6
Those quotes come from the ACLU.
They were founded by communists. Lawyers can be communists. They DO NOT defend the civil liberties of Americans, that's what I'm trying to point out. They openly hate anything associated with freedom or Christianity because those are enemies of communism.

Immigrant Killers
Yessir, we need those illegal immigrants to come to our country and bring their culture with them because diversity is wonderful. That's what the mainstream media keeps reporting. Academics keep telling us that there is "strength in diversity," and we should "value other cultures," and not "force" our values on different cultures. Oh, and we should never deport them, because they're only here to work.
Enter one Ramiro Gallegos, 26, illegal alien from Mexico. He brought his culture with him -- a culture of "machoness" and heavy drinking. He has
convictions for resisting arrest, DWI, and failure to appear in court. In 2003 he was sentenced to probation for DWI. In 2004 he received MORE probation for another DWI and driving while his license was revoked (please note he is NOT a citizen, yet freely uses and abuses his North Carolina driver's license).
About
5:30PM on Saturday, he decided to have a pile of beers and drive around with a number of his drinking pals. His blood alcohol level was 0.22% when he drove his pickup across the median, killed a man and critically injured his wife in a car crash. After the accident, he ran from the scene, but was caught by State Troopers.
Thank you, diversity supporters. Thank you, open borders supporters. Thank you, those of you who celebrate the value of other cultures over the uniquely American culture. Thanks to you, 2-year-old Avery and 5-year-old Jackson have no father and a critically injured wife.

The news story reports the local law enforcement officials as saying that they do not deport for minor offenses...like repeated DWI convictions, apparently.

Being in the country illegally is not enough to deport?! I thought that was THE reason. Ack...!
Posted by: pam at July 21, 2005 06:15 PM (l6NIn)

Not according to many "big city" police chiefs. The chief in Charlotte specifically makes a big deal, including public notices (in Spanish) that the Charlotte-Mecklenburg police absolutely WILL NOT deport or even report ANY illegals to INS under any condition. I wish that were made up, but it's not.
Posted by: Ogre at July 21, 2005 06:58 PM (L0IGK)
5
If such is the case, then aren't these big city police chiefs violating some sort of federal law? Aren't crimes supposed to be reported? Something about this stinks.
Posted by: SilverBubble at July 21, 2005 07:07 PM (v5SdF)
6
No, they're not violating any federal laws -- the feds cannot tell local police what to do. Yes, it stinks, and yes, the local police are simply being asses about it, but it's not illegal.

I support diversity. I support encouraging other cultures, encouraging Americans to learn to embrace other cultures. I also support the idea that immigrants should be legal, follow our laws (immigration and otherwise.) I agree that this guy, having come into the US illegally, and consequently broke (and continued to break) our laws, and should have been stopped before entering, or at the very least, kicked out once discovered.
BUT I don't think the fact that he was mexican really contributed to this tregedy, full blooded Americans drink and drive every day, US citizens kill people in DUI related accidents every day.
Sorry, I just don't think this had anything to do with cultural diversity - it had to do with ignorance and arrogance.
Posted by: Erin Monahan at July 21, 2005 10:49 PM (0Ea9a)
8
But it did -- you see the unique culture that is Mexican puts a very strong emphasis on drinking and heavy drinking. You are more "macho" in that culture if you can drink a lot.
Things like admitting you are too drunk to drive are very, very frowned upon in that culture. If you are part of that culture and admit that you are too drunk, you will be laughed at and ridiculed.
The American culture is different. In America, in general, there is no shame associated with admitting you are too drunk to drive except in very small, isolated circles. Overall, America says that driving drunk is bad. Overall, Mexican culture says that driving drunk is a sight of strength.
The ignorance and arrogance is ingrained in that culture. If they were assimilated into the American culture instead of being celebrated for being diverse, there would be much less a chance of this sort of thing happening -- in the Charlotte area, now the majority of drunk driving citations are issued to Mexicans, but the majority of people are not Mexican. It IS a culture "thing."
Posted by: Ogre at July 22, 2005 05:55 AM (L0IGK)
9
Mexicans and rednecks bear a striking resemblance. . .
Posted by: Erin Monahan at July 22, 2005 06:50 PM (0Ea9a)
10
I'm not claiming that no Americans drive drunk. I am saying that American society, in general, disapproves of drunk driving, while Mexican culture does not. When you celebrate and accept Mexican culture, you celebrate and accept drunk driving.

Legislature "Stop Gap" Spending
Monday night the North Carolina passed what some have called a "Stop Gap" measure. Allegedly, this bill extends spending at the current levels until the House and Senate can agree on whether to increase taxes a huge amount or a gigantic amount. However, they snuck a little additional provision in that bill that passed the House 111-0: more spending.
Yes, that's right, without having a budget, they increased spending to schools to the tune of a brand-new $200 million. Combined with the $300 million (at least) from the lottery and $500 million from fees, that's at least ONE BILLION dollars in brand-new spending on schools.
That's $117.08 for every single resident of North Carolina in increased spending on schools. And that's a grand total of AT LEAST $754.52 for every single student in grades K-12 in the state. Oh, but this money should go for teachers, right? That's what they keep telling us.
I can't find the numbers for only teachers, only for "full-time personnel." Are you ready for this? If the politicians are telling the truth, this increase will give every single employee in the school system a $5,913.35 raise (that's 13.7%). School employees, I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you. But that is what the politicians have told us.

John Roberts Questioning
By now I'm sure everyone knows that President George W. Bush has nominated one Judge John Roberts to the Supreme Court. As head of the Left (and rabidly anti-freedom) Charles Schumer (D-NY) prepares his questions for the nominee, I would like Mr. Roberts and the Democrats in the Senate to remember the words of Senator Joseph Biden (D-DE) in 1993, CHAIRMAN of the Senate Judiciary Committee, when addressing the last potential Supreme Court nominee during the last Senate confirmation hearings on a Supreme Court Justice:
"You not only have a right to choose what you will answer and not answer, but in my view you should not answer a question of what your view will be on an issue that clearly is going to come before the court in 50 forms probably, over your tenure on the court."
So, Mr. Schumer, not answering a question is NOT grounds for voting against this nominee, according to your own party.

Add to that the fact that under our legal code of conduct, it is not ethical for a "judge" to posit how he would rule on a matter, no matter how it is phrased to him. What his opinions are on current events is fair game, but what his ruling would be in a situation is not.

Family or Chocolate
Another week, another question from Cross Blogging in the weekly Christian Views Symposium. Those of you with writer's block, head on over -- the topics are always good, get you thinking, and give you things to write about if you can't think of anything else!
This week's question came from Lennie's viewing of
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory:
You have to make the following choice:
1. Move into and inherit the largest chocolate factory in the world, but never see your family again; or
2. Stay with your family who is very poor, but are loving and supportive.
Questions:
Would you choose #1 or #2 and why?
Is there anything that could be offered to you to make you abandon your family?

Holy Crap, your right, there really is no choice at all.

Stop CAFTA
Has anyone else seen this site? It's a site devoted to stopping the "Central American Free Trade Agreement." It's not been big news that I've seen, but the bad things brought out by the opposition seems pretty darn serious. I'm still trying to learn about it, but I've heard that there's provisions that subject American companies to UN regulations.
If that's really in there, count me as opposed to this one right away, no matter what else is in there. I think Ron Paul really has it right with
his opposition:
Every member of Congress who votes for CAFTA is voting to abdicate power to an international body in direct violation of the Constitution.
And the best part of Mr. Paul's opposition:
We don’t need government agreements to have free trade. We merely need to lower or eliminate taxes on the American people, without regard to what other nations do.
How damn clear is that?

More North Carolina Taxes
If you live in North Carolina, Jim Black, Marc Basnight, and Richard Morgan want YOU to pay more taxes so they can have more blank checks. And if you or your representative oppose them, they will just ignore you until you go away.
Many newspapers are reporting this year that they simply do not have enough money in Raleigh to meet all the needs of the state (even though school spending, with the lottery, is due to increase by at least $800 MILLION this year alone). However, they do seem to have enough money for Mr. Morgan to quite literally spend $2.89 million on anything he wants -- from bribes to cash payouts wherever and whenever he wants.
Mr. Black has $4.6 million, and Mr. Basnight has $6.5 million. I've mentioned before that the state auditor (an evil Republican) has determined that these blank checks that are used for quite literally any reason (I am NOT making this up) are clearly illegal and against the state Constitution. However, since the Attorney General is a Democrat (running for governor), there is no one to prosecute them for breaking the law.
So when you read about your taxes in North Carolina increasing an average of $800 on every family, while NC already has the highest income tax and corporate tax in the southeast, 9th highest in the nation; and the debt has quadrupled since 1996, keep in mind that it is the Democrats that you voted for that are wasting over $13.9 million on buying anything they want (including votes).

He provides a link to a target that you download, rules for the shoot, including range, caliber, and instructions. Next you go shoot. When you're done, you take a picture or scan of the target and sent it to him. He will post the scoring results after the deadline -- August 8.

Homespun Blogger Symposium XXIX
The Homespun Bloggers are
a loose association of bloggers for whom blogging is a labor of love, and no more.
Each week they ask a question and seek responses from other Homespun Bloggers. If you'd like to join up,
Read this and follow the directions there (send an email). They've got weekly roundups, these symposiums, and even radio blogging.
This week, they are asking about
Joseph Farah's article that claims that al-Qaida already has nuclear weapons in place inside the United States. If that article is true and accurate, the Homespun Bloggers ask:
What do we do about this potential threat not only to the United States, but to the global economy and the history of mankind?

Due to popular demand from Jay and Bou, I attempted to make the "Ogre Luvs Llamas" license plate. However, for some silly reason, the License tool wouldn't make it for my state. Instead, I got limited like the real license plates to 8 characters and ended up with this:

2004 Election almost over
A few of my regular readers might remember the story about the 2004 election for North Carolina Superintendent of Public Schools. This is the only election contest for the 2004 election in the entire country that has not been decided -- and the election STILL is not over.
At issue are some at least 11,310 ballots that are illegal ballots. The North Carolina Supreme Court very clearly determined and decided that those ballots were illegal. In case you glossed over that, I'll repeat it.
The Supreme Court of North Carolina already decided that the 11,310 ballots ARE illegal. But this is North Carolina.
You see, the candidate that is leading by just 8,000 votes is a Democrat. And this state is run by iron-fist Democrats who care only for themselves and power, and really do not give a damn what the people of the state think or want. Therefore, the legislature tried to change the rules of the election after the election.
So now, a legislative committee is holding fake "hearings" to determine the result of the election. The alleged "committee" meeting is pointless, as there is exactly a 100% chance they will suggest to the legislature that the Democrat should be declared the winner. There is also a 100% chance the legislature will "vote" to decide the Democrat should win, since the legislature is gerrymandered to be Democrat.
It won't really make any difference, but feel free to watch as the legislature overrides legal votes of the voters to give another Democrat a position of power because they really don't care what you, the voters, wanted. I only hope the Republicans have the guts to hold a party-line vote to oppose them -- but I imagine many RINOs will vote with the Dems so they can claim it was a bi-partisan vote -- and those who dare to not vote with Jim Black and Democrats WILL be punished, I assure you.
Do you still like voting Democrat in North Carolina?

Carnival, carnival!
Time for the Monday evening edition of various carnivals. For those new readers, a blog carnival is simply a bunch of blog posts on different blogs that all share some idea or theme. The carnival posting is one post that lists links to all the other blogs who have posted on that topic.
First up, some laughter with the
Carnival of Kids. This one features various kid-related topics, usually with many pictures of kids being kids.
The
Tarheel Tavern is supposed to be at
Billy the Blogging Poet, but as of Monday evening, I can't find it. Did I miss it? Did no one else participate this week?
UPDATE: Thanks to
Slowly She Turned, the
Tarheel Tavern has been located! Hooray!
One of the newest carnivals, and quickly becoming one of my personal favorites, is the
Carnival of Liberty. This carnival attempts to highlight posts about liberty in all sorts -- from news to progress, to destruction of. A big pile of entries there, too.
The
Homespun Bloggers have a weekly carnival highlighting some question of some importance. This week they asked if
we were winning the war on terror.
That's all I've got for this week -- a number of carnivals seem to have vanished, or I just can't locate the posts for the week -- education, vanities, and a couple more.
Oh, and I almost forgot -- for the newest entries into the blog world, please do go and see the
New Blog Showcase Carnival! These are new people who have new blogs, who really appreciate new readers.

Custom License Plates
I was thinking just this past weekend that there must be something like this on the internet somewhere. I happened upon it just today, linked from Owlish Mutterings. The silly tool lets you generate a custom image of any license plate for any state, and even lets you create rather... large license plates.
Now, however, I'm wondering...would the
ACLU support this license plate?

Somehow, I think they would. They do, however,
oppose ones like this:

Ah well. Just go play with
the tool. And as The Great Feathered One
points out, using it as a blog banner has
already been done (but that doesn't mean you can't do it, too!).

The fact I would love to have the "I love Satan" plate on my car parked at church for Sunday morning service just for the reaction value doesn't make me a bad person, does it?

They oppose any expression of Christianity. They make no separation between public or private ownership because the ACLU honestly believes that everything is owned by everyone.
And Jody...well...I guess it depends which church...

That's what I was thinking. Surely the "I Luv Satan" plate was Evil Glenn's. He's from Tennessee, after all...

Checks and Balances in North Carolina?
Not too likely.
This
editorial from the
News-Record of Greensboro points out quite well a few questions about the state government -- and then accurately notes that nothing will be done about them.
Recently the state auditor,
Les Merritt, REPUBLICAN, noted that the state legislature was in violation of the law. He pointed out that the leaders of the legislature were spending tens of millions of dollars from slush funds. The state law clearly states that money cannot be spent that has not been approved by the legislature. The leaders were using the slush fund on expenditures that had been turned down by the House and Senate.
In addition, the legislators were using the money to direct state agencies, allegedly under the executive branch, what to do. So the legislature was using slush funds to tell members of the executive branch who to hire and what money to spend, also a clear violation of the law.
However, Mr. Merritt's report was sent to the state Attorney General. North Carolina's Attorney General is Roy Cooper, a Democrat who is already running for governor for the 2008 election. If Mr. Cooper actually investigated, the legislature would likely punish his office financially, and most certainly he would not be supported in his 2008 gubernatorial run.
I imagine this clearly outlined violation of the law has already been filed by Mr. Cooper -- in
File 13.

New Neighbor #22
Last weekend I missed the new neighbor feature. Sorry about that! The weather has been great here recently on the weekends, so I've been rather busy outside enjoying it. The same happened this weekend, but we'll still have the new neighbor feature. Without further ado, I'd like to present:
Expresso Roast is a blog by David Price that is "reflections and commentary on life issues involving culture, politics, religion, current events, and trends."
The title of the blog comes from David's
obsession with enjoyment of coffee. Personally, I never have liked the taste of coffee, much less the smell of it. Heck, I don't even like coffee ice cream. But if you do like coffee, you might want to go discuss coffee with David!
On his
about page he also says something that I really wish more people would understand: "truth is not, in fact, relative." I cannot understand those who claim that everyone gets to make their own truth. David did just earn a degree in Theology, so that might explain a little bit about why he's got such a view on life.
He's got lots of posts on current news, including pointing out
silly news and
serious news. There appears to be consistent regular posting, and the site has been around since October of 2004 at least.
The site design is good, it loads quickly, and it's easy to read. He's even got a
whole page on book reviews. Need summer reading material?
So, if you've got a little time and want a new read, take a peek at
Expresso Roast today!

Hey,
Thanks so much for the props. I think your readers will find very little about coffee (though, yes, I do have an interest in coffee...ok, probably an obsession) but a lot of worldview commentary.
Again, thanks for the kind words. I look forward to exploring your blog.

Legal Bloggers Guide
In case you haven't seen it and you care about such things, I discovered this legal guide for bloggers.
It's got sections on legal liability issues, intellectual property, defamation, privacy, election law, and "bloggers as journalists." So if you're concerned, if you just want to know, or if you have some time this Saturday morning, head on over and have a read.

Heh?
Word at The Alliance is that Evil Glennn wrote a book. Our regular readers know that when a rumor appears, Ogre's Politics and Views likes to send out our research team to see which rumors are true and which ones are false.
The team reported back that they hacked into the Amazon site where they found databases showing images of books that were yet to be released. After they sorted through all the various pictures of the latest Harry Potter books (with different potential covers), they finally found this image:

I don't think there's anything else that can be added to that.

Fun Facts - North Carolina Legislature
I subscribe to a few sources that provide me instant links with various news stories and related activities of the North Carolina Legislature. No, it's not enough to penetrate the veil of darkness and shadow in which this group operates, but it does give a little insight into what's going on.
I recently got a notice about a
government site that listed "Fun Facts About the NC Legislature." I couldn't resist following and reading that link (your tax dollars at work). They only listed
six facts, but I thought I might help them out by providing the REAL answers to their facts...

At Bush Gardens, they have an exhibit where they rehabilitate wild bald eagles. They really are awesome to watch and see up close.

Eagles are great, we go up to Squaw Creek Wild Life Preserve (Close to Mound City, Missouri) every year to see them in the wild. A few years ago there were 500 pairs up there. They bring one in to Skidmore, Missouri's Freedom Fest (http://www.skidmorefreedomfest.com/) every year too. Her name is Moose. They will never be able to release her because she injured her wing.

I have always thought the best name for a cat is........cat. It doesn't come when you call it. Come to think of it, I'm surprised that we call liberals by name, since they make no sense when we talk to them.
