Last Capitalist Sport Falls
It's finally happened. The last professional sport in the United States has finally given in and joined the government dole. That sport, of course, is Nascar, and the event is the Hall of Fame appearing in Charlotte, NC.
Each time I observe the events of the world and this country, I have thoughts of the Novel Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. If you have never read this book, you absolutely should. You cannot honestly understand what is going on in this country without reading that book. It doesn't matter how much you dislike reading, get this book and read it. What is really scary is how accurate the predictions made in that book were -- and as we, in real life, are only partway through the book, it makes the future look even scarier. Nascar was the last bastion of professional sports capitalism. They paid their own way. They made piles of cash based on a free exchange of products. They provided entertainment and people willingly paid for the entertainment. They built their own tracks by trading commodities with those who wanted to freely. But no more. Nascar is now on the bandwagon with illegitimate force and transactions made by unwilling participants. They are now getting money from government transactions and government entities who spend money that is not theirs. Nascar has given up and joined the socialists that dominate in government today. It is indeed a sad day for this country. If anyone knows where John Galt is, please send him my direction.Posted by: Ogre at 04:06 PM | Comments (5) | Add Comment | Trackbacks (Suck)
Bush Warned about Naples
Bush has now been warned about the coming deaths of thousands, yet does nothing. He clearly wants people to die. It has been reported that the people of Naples, Italy are in grave danger. Millions of people would be displaced or die if an eruption like the one that may have occurred almost 4,000 years ago happens again, yet Bush does nothing.
President Bush clearly has plenty of warning. He has been told. Yet he does nothing. Why does he want millions of people to die? Is it because they're black? Are there black people in Naples that Bush wants dead? Or is it just because they won't vote for him? Clearly he has a reason for letting these people stay where they are. He could build a wall or something to hold back the lava, but no, he sits and does nothing while millions of people may be killed any moment.Posted by: Ogre at 02:01 PM | Comments (5) | Add Comment | Trackbacks (Suck)
Dangerous Weapons OK in schools
I can't say this is really surprising in a Canadian school. The Canadian Supreme Court has ruled that bringing dangerous weapons to school is perfect okay with them, in a unnanimous 8-0 decision.
In a ruling based on religion, children are now allowed to take large metal knives with them to class. If you have kids, you are welcome to have them join my religion. It's called Cali-burr. Everyone has to carry a gun to be a member -- everywhere. And anyone who stops you is supressing your religion.Posted by: Ogre at 01:05 PM | Comments (6) | Add Comment | Trackbacks (Suck)
Ethics and Politics?
I know, I know, the two shall never exist in the same sentence together. I know that, and you, my gentle reader, know that too. However, that's not stopping the groups and people in the North Carolina Legislature from trying to "fix" the problem. Oh, the problem? The problem is that Jim Black insists that he is above the law.
The Raleigh News and Observer gets one right when they say that "new ethics laws" will do nothing to "fix" the problems with campaigns and the cesspool that is North Carolina government. But don't worry, the Democrats that control the legislature have a solution: Ban free speech. No, really. They want to do things like only permit government to fund campaigns -- ZERO people allowed ANY say in government -- and this isn't just the usual fringe groups. This is from Rep Bill Culpepper, Democrat. The only reason he won't try that now is "the public's not ready to buy that." There's a simple way to fix this screwed up cesspool that won't limit freedom, but I doubt there's more than one legislator that's willing to do it -- remove ALL limits on everything, but report all income on the internet immediately. Seriously. That's what FREEDOM OF SPEECH is all about. If Bill Gates wants to buy a politician, let him -- but everyone will know about it immediately. And then put in term limits, and all this nightmare about lobbyists and what, exactly, IS legal would be gone in a minute -- along with the professional politicians that don't have a clue of what it's like to actually WORK for a living...Posted by: Ogre at 12:09 PM | Comments (4) | Add Comment | Trackbacks (Suck)

Bold Thady Quil
Ah, this one 'tis a right good song, rollicking and perfect for drinking along to! Here's a clip of the wonderful soundtrack.
(A continuation of the half-month-long celebration of Saint Patrick's Day -- he's Irish, NOT Scottish, you know).Ye maids of Dunhallow who're anxious for courting
A word of advice I will give unto ye:
Proceed to Banteer, to the athletic sporting
And hand in your name to the club committee.
But do not commence any sketch of your progress
till a carriage ye see comin' over the hill,
And down through the valleys and glens of Kilcorney
With that Muskerry sportsman, the bold Thady Quill cho: For ramblin', for rovin', for football or courtin'
For drinkin' strong liquor as fast as you fill;
In all your days rovin', you'll find none so jovial
As the Muskerry sportsman, the bold Thady Quill.
Thady was famous in many other places;
At the athletic meeting held out in Cloghroe
He won the long jump without throwing off his braces
Goin' fifty=four feet every sweep he woultd throw.
At the pullin' o' the weight there was a Dublin man foremost
But Thady outreached and exceeded him still
And around the whole field rang the wild ringing chorus
"Here's luck to our hero! the bold Thady Quill." At the great hurlin' match between Cork and Tipperary
'Twas played in the park by the banks of the Lee
Our own darlin' boys were afraid of being baten,
So they send for bold Thady to Ballinagree. '
He hurled the ball left and right in their faces
And show'd those Tipp'rary boys learnin' and skill
If they came in this way, shure he surely would brain' em
And the papers full of the praise for Thade Quill. In the year ninety-one before Parnell was taken,
Thade was outrageously breaking the peace
He got a light sentence for causin' commotion,
And six months hard labour for batin' police.
But in spite of coercion he's still agitatin'
Ev'ry drop of his life's blood he's willing to spill,
To gain for old Ireland complete liberation,
"Till then there's no rest for me" says bold Thady Quill At the Cork Exhibition there was a fair lady,
Whose fortune exceeded a million or more;
But a bad constitution had ruined her completely,
And medical treatment had failed o'er and o'er.
"Oh Mama" said she, I know what'll cure me
And all me diseases most certainly kill,
Give over your doctors and medical treatment,
I'd rather one squeeze outa bold Thady Quill.

Ads and Links
A couple items to point out this fine afternoon. First, one of my personal favorite carnivals -- the Tarheel Tavern. This week's host is Gingerivers. She's done a beautiful job this week with posts from and about North Carolina. If you've got a moment, go have a read.
Next I'd like to point out some fine advertisers who, along with me, want you to click on their links on my page here. Over on the top left side, you should see a little square that links to Full Metal Photographer. This is a really neat photoblog. And every day I've been over there, there's a new picture up on the front page. Go take a peek and see what you might get! And you can follow the links to see pictures from other days. Neat stuff, really. The blogads this week are a little light -- feel free to add you own ad for a very reasonable price, really! Right now you can visit Jim Black Must Go, a group trying to get the corrupt speaker of the North Carolina House to resign. Or, if you want more targeted marketing across a number of North Carolina specific blogs, check out Alt Media 101 -- that ad shows up in the giant white block on the right side, and it will also get at least one post plug!Posted by: Ogre at 08:04 PM | Comments (4) | Add Comment | Trackbacks (Suck)

Supreme Court Upholds Military
In case you missed it, the US Supreme Court confirmed that if you want federal money, the federal government gets to set the rules. If you don't like the rules, feel free to stop accepting the federal money.
This case is about schools that want to bar military recruiters from their campuses -- the schools want the federal cash, and they certainly want the military to actually protect us, but they just don't want anyone to know about it -- well, some schools want the protection, others would be happier were we to be taken over by Muslims or communists... What I find really interesting is the amount of control the federal government has in this case. Go ahead, schools, eject the recruiters if you want to, you just don't get federal money. Now, how many schools can afford to do that? That's right, none of them. And that's the bigger problem. The federal government, by using my tax dollars, is getting to determine way too much. Why does the federal government give my money to someone else so they can go to school? Can someone find me that section of the Constitution? I've looked and looked, but I don't see it there. This wouldn't be an issue if the federal government would mind it's own business. Then the schools could permit and allow anyone they wanted on their property -- and EVERYONE would enjoy a LOT more freedom. Judge Succeeds in Bloodless Coup in NC
Oh, did you miss that one in the news reports, too? Well, it's been rather slow-developing, but steady. If you know or watch anything regarding the news and education in North Carolina, I'm sure you will recognize the Leandro case and King Supreme Ruler Almighty Judge Manning. He has elevated himself even above the governor.

Speak English = Offensive
I'm telling you now -- if someone were to grab their "you-know-what" and take on illegal immigration as their theme for their campaign, they're almost assured to win anywhere in the country (well, except NY and CA maybe). People have really had it with the PC crowd that welcomes everything EXCEPT whites, Christians, or males.
How about this one: Man displays sign: "English Speaking American." Man gets letter from employer saying he is "reprehensible and discriminatory to our non-English speaking and/or Hispanic workforce." And is threatened with being fired from a government agency. That's how far out of whack our government is. All you have to do is claim you speak English and you're discriminatory and can be fired. What a complete and total load of *****. The person who wrote that letter should bePosted by: Ogre at 02:08 PM | Comments (4) | Add Comment | Trackbacks (Suck)
Jim Black Wants more Cash
Jim Black is the current besieged Democrat speaker of the North Carolina House of Representatives -- therefore it's not really news that he wants more money. He always wants more money -- he's never seen a tax increase that he's opposed. He will do or say anything to get more money for government to spend, even if it's just to pad his personal government-created checking account. But even that's not enough.
Jim Black is under investigation by the FBI, State Bureau of Investigation, a grand jury, the state board of elections, and others. Therefore he needs a team of lawyers -- you see, in his mind, because HE makes the laws, it is quite impossible for him to break these laws. That's his mindset, so he'll never admit to ANY wrongdoing. Now, because he won't admit he's done anything wrong, he wants the taxpayers to give him $200,000 to pay for those lawyers being used for his defense. Why not? After all, the taxpayers are paying the lawyers investigating, why not pay for his defense, too? He only has to repay the money if he pleads guilty or is found guilty. I see a plea deal coming, do you?Posted by: Ogre at 12:01 PM | Comments (5) | Add Comment | Trackbacks (Suck)

An Open Letter to Muslims
I know you, as a Muslim, hear many things from people who are not Muslims. I know you are told many other things by those who are your leaders about people who are not Muslims. And I know you are told what your prophet, Mohamed, has told you to do in the name of your God, Allah. But have you ever thought about what you're being told?
Mohamed has told you that you are to bring about paradise here on Earth by converting all the people of the world to only believe in Mohamed and to submit to Allah's will -- but Allah cannot do it alone, he needs his people (Muslims) to help with the conversion. And the conversion cannot, apparently, be by personal choice alone. Oftentimes, people are told that they must submit to the will of Allah or suffer tremendous pain or death. What sort of God is this that rules by fear and destruction? Do you believe your God wants you to kill and destroy people that refuse to follow him? Do you believe your God wants people to follow him only through fear of pain or death? What sort of God wants only to rule by force? What purpose is there in this world for love if your God will have none of it? Wouldn't it make more sense for your God to want people to worship him? Why would your God give people free will if he did not want people to actually to be able to exercise that free will? And another note for those who would jihad to obtain a "reward" in heaven -- you don't need to die for your God, because He already sent his only son, Jesus Christ, to die for you. His son died for you -- no matter what you have done, no matter how "good" or "evil" you have been -- he died for you, so that you would not have to. Please do not hesitate to email me if you have any other questions about Him.Posted by: Ogre at 10:57 PM | Comments (8) | Add Comment | Trackbacks (Suck)
Left loses it when presented with facts
The left has gone bonkers in their blind hatred of anything and everything that is Christian. And if they have to outright lie to make their case, that won't slow them down -- it never does.
It seems legislators in Missouri have decided they want to respect Christians. And that's enough to drive the left and Democrats absolutely bonkers. Heck, the reaction to this is so insane, I think that those who started this might have done it just to watch the left's reaction for entertainment value alone. The MO House wants to pass a resolution (not a law) that says, in part, thatwe stand with the majority of our constituents and exercise the common sense that voluntary prayer in public schools and religious displays on public property are not a coalition of church and state, but rather the justified recognition of the positive role that Christianity has played in this great nation of ours, the United States of America.
That's all. There's no new laws being passed, there's no forcing anything on anyone -- a simple statement that is actually a statement of fact, no matter what those on the left want to admit. And the left has lost it. Check out Stop the ACLU for a list of the absolutely utterly insane reactions to this statement of fact. What's even funnier is that most of the left's utterly insane reaction claims that this RESOLUTION that is a statement of fact is going to make Christianity the state religion of MO. While completely and utterly untrue, if the legislature wanted to do that -- THEY COULD! That's right, states CAN have official state religions under the US Constitution (depending on their own state constitutions, of course). There is no such thing as "separation of church and state" -- that's a completely made-up phrase used by those who hate religion. The United States Congress is not allowed to pass a law that restricts freedom of religion -- and that's ALL the Constitution says on the matter. Have fun watching the left go insane reacting as idiots on this one -- it's sure to be entertaining.

Support Good
You have may heard the story about the family in Indiana who lost their son to terrorists who have then been terrorized by other scum, including by having their house broken into and burglarized. CJ, blogging at A Soldier's Perspective is trying to organize a letter-writing campaign in support of this family. Go read how you can support the family of Sgt. Rickey Jones.

Muslim Truth
How about some truth from someone in the middle east? A tiny portion of the transcript:
It is a clash between a mentality that belongs to the middle ages, and another mentality that belongs to the 21st century. It is a clash between civilization and backwardness, between the civilized and the primitive, between barbarity and rationality. It is a clash between freedom and oppression, between democracy and dictatorship.
Go watch the whole video -- I imagine the woman on the tape is now a target of terrorists who are very likely to attempt to kill her for speaking the truth.

Pretty Bird
I know about cat blogging and dog blogging. I wonder if there's bird blogging, too? Well, it doesn't really matter, I'm getting some really good photographs of the birds who are currently visiting my house. And it might help to relax you a little after reading all the polticial and news postings, right?
This tiny fellow is rather bright for this time of year, but here he is anyway. He came to visit as part of a flock of, oh, about 100 birds. Well, maybe not that many, but there was quite a mob of these fellows outside this morning. Enjoy the colors, and as usual, click to enlarge (massively):Posted by: Ogre at 07:05 PM | Comments (4) | Add Comment | Trackbacks (Suck)
Terrorist Attack in Chapel Hill, NC
Oh, you didn't read about this in the National news? I guess they're too busy screaming about former Congressmen and corruption. It is at least being reported, but the headlines read, "Driver hurts 9 at UNC."
But this was just another terrorist attack. And I don't say that just because the attempted murder's name was "Mohammed" (it was). The scum who very intentionally drove an SUV into a large crowd on a Friday afternoon where he clearly knew there would be a large crowd was attempting pre-meditated murder. Oh, he's also from Iran. The local FBI (who is investigating) has no comment on the case as they investigate. However, one agent appears to have let a quote slip from the attempted murder -- the agent said that the murderer, "made statements that he acted to avenge the American treatment of Muslims." At least the police actually are planning to charge him with attempted murder and aren't going to excuse him for religious reasons. Folks, this IS a terrorist attack, no matter how you slice it. But the Dhimmitude of the media continues, unabated. And don't you just love the youth we're raising in this country today? After the attack, "Some [students] stood and cried." Great. Let's watch people get injured and cry instead of actually DOING something. If that happened near me, I bet the terrorist at the very least gets his back window shot out -- but only if I can't get a clear head shot. Gee, it's nice to have those unarmed targets, isn't it? William Teach is nearby and might get more details soon.Posted by: Ogre at 04:31 PM | Comments (6) | Add Comment | Trackbacks (Suck)
Run Vernon, Run
I was just told by the folks at Greensboro 101 (was that you, Ed?) that Vernon Robinson has signed up to run for Congress in the 13th district of North Carolina. I thought he was running in the 12th...or was that the 5th?
If you're having trouble keeping up, you're not alone. Apparently in North Carolina, there are no laws that require a Congressional Representative to live in their district -- as long as you live somewhere in North Carolina. I imagine that's going to be a big issue with the current Congressional Representative, Democrat Brad Miller. However, it could be interesting to watch. Robinson's a firebrand. He'll tell you how it is without pulling any punches. He's very conservative and isn't afraid of being called a conservative. Brad Miller is a Democrat -- he's a union favorite based on his positions. A summary of his posted positions: big government is good, gigantic government is better, and ONLY government can do good. He's also on board with the "Bush lied, people died" loonies. Robinson, on the other hand, is different, and he's not afraid to point out his differences. I will say that I've never personally met the man (although if he makes it to the Conservative Leadership Conference in April, I hope to), and he's not paying me to post on his behalf -- all I've got is his website and the internet. Here's Vernon's stated position on the issues:I am pro-Constitution, pro-national sovereignty, pro-military, pro-veteran, pro-growth, pro-business, pro-property rights, pro-marriage, pro-adoption, pro-farmer, pro-school choice, pro-states' rights, pro-religious freedom, pro-Pledge of Allegiance, pro-death penalty, pro-gun, and pro-life. I will secure our borders and demand the vigorous enforcement of our immigration laws. I support market-based reforms of government entitlement programs such as Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. I am unabashedly and unalterably opposed to racial quotas, special rights for homosexuals, the United Nations, the proliferation of frivolous lawsuits, women in combat, pork barrel spending, useless government programs and agencies, onerous regulations, and all tax hikes.
Well. Sounds pretty good to me. And that's pretty much what the people of North Carolina want (I don't know about the 13th district in particular):
90% think the problem of illegal immigration is a serious problem.
96% disagree with the Supreme Court's view in Kelo v. New London.
72% favor limiting government spending.
69% oppose tax increases. So, this could be an interesting race. If the people of the 13th district think like the rest of the state, they should vote for Vernon Robinson. Let's see if the Democrat in this race runs on the actual Democrat platform of increased taxes, increased government, and increased reductions in freedom, shall we?

Nell Flaherty's Drake
The Saint Patrick's Day Month Celebration continues!
Another 19th century Irish ballad here. There's various rumors surrounding this song and it's influences, all focusing on the various fighting in Dublin, especially the Dublin uprising of 1803. I think this song is a hoot -- just perfect for a Friday afternoon. Another really fun sing-along song -- and if you need to curse anyone without using swear words, there's lots of neat ideas in here! Song clip for Nell Flaherty's Drake:Oh my name it is Nell and the truth for to tell
I come from Cootehill which I'll never deny
I had a fine drake and I'd die for his sake
That me grandmother left me and she goin' to die
The dear little fellow his legs they were yellow
He could fly like a swallow or swim like a hake
Till some dirty savage to grease his white cabbage
Most wantonly murdered me beautiful drake Now his neck it was green almost fit to be seen
He was fit for a queen of the highest degree
His body was white, and it would you delight
He was plump, fat, and heavy and brisk as a bee
He was wholesome and sound, he would weigh twenty pound
And the universe round I would roam for his sake
Bad luck to the robber be he drunk or sober
That murdered Nell Flaherty's beautiful drake May his spade never dig, may his sow never pig
May each hair in his wig be well trashed with the flail
My his door never latch, may his roof have no thatch
May his turkeys not hatch, may the rats eat his meal
May every old fairy from Cork to Dun Laoghaire
Dip him snug and airy in river or lake
That the eel and the trout they may dine on the snout
Of the monster that murdered Nell Flaherty's drake May his pig never grunt, may his cat never hunt
May a ghost ever haunt him the dead of the night
May his hens never lay, may his horse never neigh
May his coat fly away like an old paper kite
That the flies and the fleas may the wretch ever tease
May the piercin' March breeze make him shiver and shake
May a lump of the stick raise the bumps fast and quick
On the monster that murdered Nell Flaherty's drake Well the only good news that I have to infuse
Is that old Paddy Hughes and young Anthony Blake
Also Johnny Dwyer and Corney Maguire
They each have a grandson of my darlin' drake
May treasure have dozens of nephews and cousins
And one I must get or me heart it will break
For to set me mind easy or else I'll run crazy
So ends the whole song of Nell Flaherty's drake

The Cardinal
Ah, the cardinal. I caught this fellow snatching up a bit of corn left on the ground (click for a MUCH larger picture). Do you like his little beard? I was actually about 30 feet away from him -- man that zoom lens is doing it's job, eh? Did you know that the cardinal was the state bird of North Carolina?
