Question marks, always question marks

Please, somebody help me!

I usually write my posts in MS Word and then copy and paste them onto the blog. But everytime I do this, all my apostropies, quotation marks and pound (sterling) signs come out on the blog as ? because of Word's stupid formatting.

In order to fix it, I have to copy my post into another utility which strips out Word's funny characters and replaces them with the normal versions.

Any ideas on what to do so that I don't have to do this and can paste straight from Word?

1 I think that if you use the courier or courier new fonts it should be okay. Those should both be ascii compliant. Alternately, use Notepad like I do.

2 I don't think Courier will fix it.

Notepad or Wordpad should work. Word uses far too many non-standard characters.

3 I almost never create my posts in MT, I use notepad and then copy it in later. The downside to this is you have to manually put in tags for URLs etc. But notepad doesn't ever timeout your session, giving you endless time to finish the entry.

4 I use the little box on the MT compose page and save as draft frequently.

5 I generally either compose on the fly, or (if I've got something especially long) I'll compose in either HomeSite (or if'n I'm not on my own box WordPad/NotePad).

The advantage to HomeSite is that it'll color your tags for you so you can see what you're doing on the fly.

6 NoteTab Light, which I describe here:

7 I always compose in word and have NEVER had this problem. Not on MUNU, anyway. I SOMETIMES had this problem with Blogger, but could never figure out why, since it was intermittent.

I use Normal, Times New Roman, when composing in Word.

8 I had the same thing happen to me when I first started out on *cough* BlogSpot - going from MS Word to the Blogger entry where I'd get garbage.

Someone told me to use Notepad or Wordpad and then cut-n-paste...it's worked every since.

Now I find myself not like Word and liking Notepad even more...
