Sitemeter vs AWStats

Like a lot of folks, especially refugees from Blogspot, I've got Sitemeter up on my blog. But here on MuNu we've got that nifty AWStats. Should I yank Sitemeter? And if I do, do I lose the ability to allow others to see my stats. With Sitemer, you get that nice button with the current count of visitors. But with AWStats, all I see is the URL do the very cool looking stats page -- but it is still just a link on blog page. Is there an API call I can make to get some data out, like the number of visitors and such, that I can then put on the blog?

Still looking through the documentation -- maybe the answer is in there somewhere.

1 On the other hand, that Sitemeter number is gimicky anyway. I think I'll just shift it to AWStats and leave it at that.

2 Well, the Ecosystem runs off Sitemeter if you care about that.

I haven't looked into making Awstats data publically availble. There are some other stats programs I could enable as well, but Awstats is the best one.

3 Sitemeter will only get about 1/2 your actual visits... other than that, they are great...

4 Sitemeter doesn't count things like webspiders, which Google and Yahoo and so on use to index you pages. It doesn't count RSS downloads either.

5 I don't care if I get the absolute correct numbers, as long as they're consistently counted, and Sitemeter seems to be ok in that regard. It's good enough to see upward or downward trends, and the occasional spike when you get one. As long as the yardstick is constant, the precise measurement isn't that critical.

6 AWStats is nice, but have you tried NetTracker Lite? Its free.

7 I'll take a look. But it's not always easy to set up things when they have to work for 150 web sites without any changes.

9 It's a pretty web stats page available in CPanel. It shows you how many people read your blog each day, what countries they come from, what pages they read, and so on.

10 I kinda like StatCounter (http://www.statcounter.com/). I've used most of the others, but I like it the best. Of course, I use the others, too.
