German Media Bias

Davids MedianKritik has a great post demonstrating just why mant Germans feel the way they do about Americans. When all you get is "reporting" portraying charicatures, what else would you expect?

Great Link

Sir George has an excellant post up at the Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler about the deeper ramifications of the Schiavo case. I concur with him completely. As usual, George clearly and brilliantly makes his case.
It DOES matter that we stood on the side of life.

Explosion in Texas

BP's largest oil refinery in Texas experienced a massive explosion this afternoon, with residents living as far away as 5 miles feeling the side effects of the explosion.

There is no word yet on the total number of fatalities, but at least 29 refinery workers were hospitalized. Say a prayer for the recovery of those injured and that the total number of fatalities is low.

There is no hint of the cause of the tragedy as of yet. I pray that it wasn't a result of a terrorist action, and find it frightening that such a speculation has to come to mind immediatly, before an investigation has even begun to be organized, but that is the reality of the times we live in.

I know it sounds crass to bring up the commercial aspects at this time, but I can't help but wonder how this incident will affect national gas prices, given that we just lost a large segment of our refining capacity. At one time we had over 150 large refineries, but due to the actions of some of the loonier environmentalist groups, that number has been brought down to around 20, with any proposed new facilities facing almost insurmountable roadblocks into ever becoming reality. This event should serve as a warning to us just how vunerable we are to relatively small scale actions in one of the most vital sectors of our economy. Putting too many vital eggs in one small basket is tantemount to societal suicide.

Krauthammer Speaks

Charles Krauthammer has a great op-ed piece on the Terri Schiavo case, and I find that, as usual, he lays it all out in a clear and logical manner. His concluding suggestion is one that I believe should be seriously considered for the future.

It's often been said that hard cases make for bad law, and this one certainly hasn't been an exception to that rule. When the Congress intervened in what was essentially a states law case, it's the lip of a very slippery slope for all of us.
However, I can see where the main Florida State Court judge was arbitrarily using only one side's "evidence" in making his decisions, and I don't see any other venue where succor could have come from. As Mr Krauthammer stated, we're faced making a choice between a legal travesty and a human tragedy,
Mr. Krauthammer was correct when he said that no matter the result, there is no good outcome to this case.

Just Rambling.....

I woke up after 4 hrs sleep after driving 14 hours straight, and have been up for 12 hours now....I was hoping that inspiration would hit, and I would be making a Great Post; the kind of post that keeps readers coming back for more, and telling all their friends to "go READ this!". Alas, I haven't come up with a single blessed idea worthy of the title. So I'm going to go into random existential mode and se if my sub-concious may be working better than my for-brain.

Let me see.....Terri Schiavo....everyone is talking about the poor woman, and all sides are wrong in some items, and right in others. I'm appalled with the whole situation. I don't believe that Congress should ever have gotten involved, but I don't think the courts in Florida acted correctly either.

Terri Schiavo is NOT on life support, she was merely being fed and hydrated through a gastro tube. There is enough evidence to show that her husband worked against her best interest for years, not providing any rehabilitative care, despite being awarded a large sum of money in a mal-practice suit to provide just such care. There really is no concrete evidence that Terri would have wished to starve to death rather than continue on in her present state, other than the word of her husband, and a few family members, indeed, we really don't KNOW her true present state, due to the fact that Mr. Schiavo has refused to allow any brain scans to determine the level of brain activity. There are far too many unanswered questions to allow this farce to go on. Secondly, even if euthanasia was warrented; to kill a person in this manner is just too terrible to contemplate, and make no mistake, this IS the killing of a person, not the cessation of "heroic measures" of life support.

If the Government proposed the same method to execute a convicted felon, the same people crying "to let Terri die" would be up in arms at the "cruel" method chosen to execute a deserving criminal.

I am worried that the nose of the camel is in the tent when the federal Government starts intervening in what should be decided at the State level, but the State courts have shown themselves as being ill-equipped to handle tough cases such as this too, with vital testimony from interested parties not being allowed into evidence, and the unsupported testimony of NOT-disinterested parties to hold sway without regard to medical testimony to the contrary...in fact, some of Mr. Schiavo's "expert medical testimony" came from doctors that NEVER even examined Terri in person, just vidio footage and incomplete medical summeries. (incomplete, since Mr. Schiave refused to allow any tests that might contradict his wishes to allow Terri to die) Thats inexecusable.
I don't know the total answer, but where there is this much confusion, I would think it wise to err on the side of life.

Wanda at Podunt Post has her own post on Terri Schiavo....we don't agree on much, but I'm gratified to see that we basically agree on this, with her interesting addend that she sees just how bad this makes the Democrats look, something I hadn't even considered untill I read her post. Considering her views, this is a major breakthrough; she didn't even call us repugnicans! (Your journey to the Dark Side has begun Wanda! LOL)

Right Wing Rocker has a post up on how he feels about the 2nd Amendment. It's all been said before, here and on many other blogs, but thjis is a topic that it seems MUST be kept hot to keep our freedoms alive.

Mamamontezz shows her writeing prowess with a little prose poem as an ode to Spring. (and you wonder WHY I married her? How could I not?)

Here's a picture of Lord Spatula and Mamamontezz doing the live-blogging updates for those of the VRWC that couldn't attend the Blogfest in person.

Well it ain't much, but thats all I could dredge up for now....maybe the juices will flow more freely (and coherently) with a little more sleep.

I just want to say to ALL the attendees at the Blogfest, thank you from the bottom of my heart for the kindness and courtesy You showed to Mama and I, and Special Kudos to Lord Spatula and LC Beth for their fantastic job in organizing and keeping the event as wonderful as it was.

BEST COMEBACK EVER

A Soldier tells about an incident in the grocery store he stopped at yesterday, on his way home from the base. He said that ahead of several people in front of him stood a woman dressed in a burkha. He said when she got to the cashier she loudly remarked about the US flag lapel pin the cashier wore on her smock.

The cashier reached up and touched the pin, and said proudly, "yes, I always wear it and I probably always will."

The woman in the burkha then asked the cashier when she was going to stop bombing her countrymen, explaining that she was Iraqi.

A gentleman standing behind the soldier stepped forward, putting his arm around his shoulders, and nodding towards the soldier, said in a calm and gentle voice to the Iraqi woman: "Lady, hundreds of thousands of men and women like this young man have fought and died so that YOU could stand here, in MY country and accuse a check-out cashier of bombing YOUR countrymen. It is my belief that had you been this outspoken in YOUR own country, we wouldn't need to be there today. But, hey, if you have now learned how to speak out so loudly and clearly, I'll gladly buy you a ticket and pay your way back to Iraq so you can straighten out the mess in YOUR country that you are obviously here in MY country to avoid."

Blogfest 2005

Well, Mamamontezz and I got safely home after a long, but enjoyable drive lasting from 6:30 PM Sunday to 8:35 AM Monday. She even let ME do all the driving! For those of who don't know Mama, thats...unusual, to say the least.

We had an INCREDIBLE time at the Blog-fest, everyone there went out of their way to make us feel, not just welcome, but like a part of their extended family.

All Kudos to Beth and Lord Spats for a truly wonderful experience being had by all.

I finally found a cowboy hat that really fits, as a memento of the event.

The only disappoinment was that Kim du Toit and Connie couldn't get away to put in an appearance, but hopefully, maybe next year...

One of the highlights for me was to finally meet Misha for the first time in the meat world; he was even more of a gentleman than I had thought.

Sometimes you meet people in person you have only known on-line and are disappointed with the reality, but I must say that EVERYONE who attended was even better in person.

To that one person who knows who he is, that item for the boat-anchor computer has been ordered, and should arrive in a week or so. I am eternally grateful for your kindness and generosity.

I'm going to bed and sleeping for an extended period....more to come later.

I probably won't be posting untill Monday after our return to the Hoosier state.

In the meantime, check out the blogroll and support the 'sphere....

The GFW Agenda

I made a post a couple of days ago about the goal of the GFW's with universal registration ie, the total eleimination of private firearms, and I got a couple of e-mails telling me that I was a Neanderthal that was seeing a conspiracy theory where there was none to be seen.

One e-mailer told me that "surely I couldn't argue with keeping tabs on who owns guns, for the public safety". And that the (GFW'S) "people that try to put into effect gun registration/licensing are only making common sense the law".

Well, Yes, I CAN argue with that false premise. Every major gun control group has only ONE goal in mind; nothing less than the total banning of ANY private firearms. They know that they don't have the public support for a total ban right now, so they are working towardes their goal with an incremental set of laws, licenses, and anti-gun propaganda.

Don't believe me? Well read these meeting notes from a Handgun Control Inc. planning meeting on December 17,1993.
This was their agenda for regulations they thought could be enacted in 1994:

WHAT IS PENDING NOW AND CAN BE LAW IN 1994

* Ban of all clips holding over 6 bullets.
* Ban on all semiautos which can fire more than 6 bullets without reloading.
* Ban of possession of parts to convert arms into miliary configuration.
* Ban on all pump shotguns capable of being converted to more than 5 shots without reloading.
* Banning of all machine guns, destructive devices, short shotguns/rifles and assault weapons.
* Banning of Saturday Night Specials.
* Banning of Non-Sporting Ammunition
* Arsenal licensing (for possession of multiple guns and large amounts of ammunition)
* Elimination of the Department of Civil Marksmanship.
* Ban on possession of a firearm within a home located within 1000 feet of a schoolyard.
* Ban on all realistic replicas/toy guns or non-firearms capable of being rendered realistic.
* The right of the victim of gun violence to sue manufacturers and dealers to be affirmed and perhaps, aided with money from government programs.
* Taxes on ammo, Dealers licenses & guns to offset the medical costs to society.
* The eventual ban on all semiautomatics (regardless of when made or caliber).

This was #16 on their long term goal agenda:

16. EVENTUAL BAN OF HANDGUN POSSESSION This may be closer to reality than many of us think. Handguns are becoming increasingly unpopular and we think that within five years we can enact a total ban on possession at the federal level.

Do you honestly think that they have eased up their position in the intervening years? If you do, please pass the fairy dust, cause I would like my world to be all rosy light too.

If you want to keep one of the basic rights that this country was founded on, you'd better educate yourself and join us in the fight. Even if you don't care to exercise your 2nd. Amendment rights personally; if that right is overturned, which one will be next? Still think I'm a "Chicken Little"?

Well this is part of their long-range lobbying talking points:

Legal Point 3: Suing the makers of toy-replica guns, toy weapons and violent entertainment: One of the purveyors of violence to society, companies which profit from violence would eventually be identified and made legally responsible for the violent acts inspired by their products. A study would have to be created to link these companies to those actions taken as a result of their products. Threat of legal action would convince many manufacturers and distributors that other nonviolence-related recreational materials and toys, would make them fiscally accountable for the cost to society incurred as a result of their merchandise. Items could include: violent video games, television shows, movies, videotapes, water guns, super soakers, electronic noise guns, replica guns, toy weapons like swords, batons, martial arts items. Tort law as we know it may not have to undergo a change in order to facilitate these actions. As many people know, it is not necessary to actually win in order to affect change, since the constant threat of legal action will induce change in the way people do business. People all know that the real fiscal effect of repeated legal actions can bankrupt a peddler of violence just as well as winning a large settlement. Any additional ideas or proposals should be directed to our Washington D.C. office for collation, investigation and discussion.

Take note of the fact that they know that they don't even have to win any legal cases to make their agenda fact....Just how many times can even a large toy company such as Mattel undergo the legal costs of defending in Federal lawsuits before they decide that the cost is too high to sustain and stay in business making any toy deemed by these Facists as "unsuitable"?

Hat tip to Kim du Toit for the link.

Even when we're correct...

The train was quite crowded, so the U. S. Marine walked the entire
length looking for a seat, but the only seat left was taken by a
well-dressed, middle-aged, French woman's poodle.

The war-weary Marine asked, "Ma'am, may I have that seat?"

The French woman just sniffed and said to no one in particular,
"Americans are so rude. My little Fifi is using that seat."

The Marine walked the entire train again, but the only seat left was
under that dog.

"Please, ma'am. May I sit down? I'm very tired."

She snorted, "Not only are you Americans rude, you are also arrogant!"

This time the Marine didn't say a word, he just picked up the little
dog, tossed it out the train window, and sat down.

The woman shrieked, "Someone must defend my honor! Put this American in
his place!"

An English gentleman sitting nearby spoke up, "Sir, you Americans often
seem to have a penchant for doing the wrong thing. You hold the fork in
the wrong hand. You drive your autos on the wrong side of the road.

And now, sir, you've thrown the wrong bitch out the window.

Women's Humor

WOMAN'S PERFECT BREAKFAST

She's sitting at the table with her gourmet coffee.
Her son is on the cover of the Wheaties box.
Her daughter is on the cover of Business Week.
Her boyfriend is on the cover of Playgirl.
And her husband is on the back of the milk carton.

MARRIAGE SEMINAR

While attending a Marriage Seminar dealing with
communication, Tom and his wife Grace listened to the
instructor, "It is essential that husbands and wives know
the things that are important to each other."
He addressed the man,
"Can you describe your wife's favorite flower?"
Tom leaned over, touched his wife's arm gently and
whispered, "It's Pillsbury, isn't it?

The rest of the story gets rather ugly, so I'll stop right here.

CIGARETTES AND TAMPONS
A man walks into a pharmacy and wanders up and down
the aisles. The sales girl notices him and asks him if she can help him.

He answers that he is looking for a box of
tampons for his wife. She directs him down the correct
aisle. A few minutes later, he deposits a huge bag of
cotton balls and a ball of string on the counter.

She says, confused, "Sir, I thought you were looking for
some tampons for your wife?
He answers, " You see, it's like this, yesterday, I sent
my wife to the store to get me a carton of cigarettes,
and she came back with a tin of tobacco and some rolling
papers; cause it's sooo-ooo--oo-ooo much cheaper.

So, I figure if I have to roll my own . so does she.

( I figure this guy is the one on the milk carton! )

WIFE VS. HUSBAND
A couple drove down a country road for several miles,
not saying a word. An earlier discussion had led to an
argument and neither of them wanted to concede their
position. As they passed a barnyard of mules, goats,
and pigs, the husband asked sarcastically,

"Relatives of yours?"

"Yep," the wife replied, "in-laws."

UNDERSTANDING WOMEN
(A MAN'S PERSPECTIVE)

I know I'm not going to understand women.
I'll never understand how you can take boiling hot wax,
pour it onto your upper thigh,
rip the hair out by the root,
and still be afraid of a spider.

We MUST control the Borders

I have been excoriating the Bush administration for overly lax border control.
This story is the reason why.

The FBI managed to stop this plan to import deadly weapons into the US. What about the other plots that are out there? It's often been quoted that "the terrorists only have to succeed once, or we can only fail once" for an incident on the scale of 9/11 to occur again.

I give the FBI kudos for stopping them....THIS TIME. With borders that are leaking like a sieve, it's a testament to their ability that we haven't had another major incident as of this time.

We the people need to do our part and let the Administration know that we will no longer tolerate their seemingly insane border policies. The politicians are afraid of the PC screamers, we need to let them know that we don't agree with the screamers and we demand that our borders be made secure to the best of our ablity with a free society.

There will be an incident, sooner rather than later, it's just the law of averages that the terrorists will succeed, and with the strictures inhereant in a free society, our borders will never be totally leak proof without losing that freedom we hold dear, but that doesn't mean that we throw up our hands and just say Que sera sera.

There are measures that can be taken that will heighten our security considerably without infringing on our freedom, all it takes is the political will to employ them.

We can no longer equate stopping open intrusion of our borders with racism as the PC screamers would have it. It's not, it's self defense.

Service

A friend sent me this today...pretty much sums up my attitude toward most government.

In my life, I thought I had a handle on the meaning of the word "service."
"The act of doing things for other people."

Then I heard the terms:

Internal Revenue Service
Postal Service
Telephone Service
Civil Service
Selective Service
City/County Public Service
Customer Service
Service Stations

I became confused about the word "service." This is not what I thought "service" meant.

Then today, I overheard two farmers talking and one of them mentioned that he was having a bull over to "service" a few of his cows.

SHAZAM! It suddenly all came into clear perspective.
Now I understand what all those "service" agencies are doing to us.

Firearms "fingerprinting"

Kevin at The Smallest Minority has a great post up on Firearms/ammo "fingerprinting" and why it's a program that shouldn't be enacted in law....for the best of reasons; it just DOESN'T work.

Where it has been enacted, it is a program that has cost upwards of $16 Million dollars, without a SINGLE crime having been solved. The technology doesn't work, can be easily fooled, and is a massive drain on scarce law enforcement resources. Let's just hope the politicians have the sense to stop throwing money down a rathole.

Senior Bus Trip

A senior citizens' group charters a bus from San Angelo, TX to Branson. As they entered Missouri, an elderly woman comes up to the driver and says, "I've just been molested!"The driver felt that she had fallen asleep and had a dream. So he tells her to go back to her seat, and sit down.

A short time later, another old woman comes forward, and claims that she was just molested. The driver thought he had a bus load of old wackos, but who would be molesting those old ladies? About 10 minutes later, a third old lady comes up and says that she'd been molested too. The bus driver decides that he'd had enough, and pulls into the first rest area. When he turns the lights on and stands up, he sees an old man on his hands and knees crawling in the aisles. "Hey gramps, what are you doing down there?" says the bus driver..

"I lost my toupee. I thought I found it three times, but every time I grab it, it runs away..."

ONLY in Canada!

Only a Canadian.......

From the province where drunk driving is considered a sport, comes this true story.

Recently a routine police patrol parked outside a Lethbridge, Alberta bar. After last call the officer noticed a man leaving the bar so intoxicated that he could barely walk. The man stumbled around the street for a few minutes, with the officer quietly observing. After what seemed an eternity and trying his keys on five vehicles, the man managed to find his car which he fell into. He was there for a few minutes as a number of other patrons left the bar and drove off.

Finally he started the car, switched the wipers on and off (it was a fine dry night) flicked the blinkers on, then off, honked the horn and then switched on the lights. He moved the vehicle forward a few inches, reversed a little and then remained still for a few more minutes as more vehicles left.

At last he pulled out of the parking lot and started to drive slowly down the road. The police officer, having patiently waited all this time, now started up the patrol car, put on the flashing lights, promptly pulled the man over and carried out a breathalyzer test.

To his amazement the breathalyzer indicated no evidence of the man having consumed any alcohol at all! Dumbfounded, the officer said, "I'll have to ask you to accompany me to the police station. This breathalyzer equipment must be broken." "I doubt it", said the truly proud Canadian,

"Tonight I'm the Designated Decoy."

Joke of the Day

Who said that Catholics can't laugh at themselves?

A new priest at his first mass was so nervous he could hardly speak. After mass he asked the monsignor how he had done. The monsignor replied, "When I am worried about getting nervous on the pulpit, I put a glass of vodka next to the water glass. If I start to get nervous, I take a sip."

So the next Sunday he took the monsignor's advice. At the beginning of the sermon, he got nervous and took a drink. He proceeded to talk up a storm. Upon return to his office after mass, he found the following note on his door:

1. Sip the Vodka, don't gulp.

2. There are 10 commandments, not 12.

3. There are 12 disciples, not 10.

4. Jesus was consecrated, not constipated.

5. Jacob wagered his donkey, he did not bet his ass.

6. We do not refer to Jesus Christ as the late J.C.

7. The Father, Son, and Holy Ghost are not referred to as Daddy, Junior, and the Spook.

8. David slew Goliath, he did not kick the shit out of him.

9. When David was hit by a rock and knocked off his donkey,
don't say he was stoned off his ass.

10. We do not refer to the cross as the Big T!

11. When Jesus broke the bread at the Last Supper he said, "Take this and eat it, for it is my body", he did not say, "Eat me."

12. The Virgin Mary is not referred to as the, "Mary with the Cherry".

13. The recommended grace before a meal is not: "Rub-A-dub-dub, thanks for the grub, yeah God". and finally...

14. Next Sunday there will be a taffy-pulling contest at St.Peter's, not a peter-pulling contest at St. Taffy's.

Blatently stolen borrowed from Your Moosey Fate

Declaration of Independence

Geert Wilders has issued his "Delaration of Independence" in his first speech in forming a new political party. I find myself in total agreement with Mr. Wilders and wish him success in his venture. Placing freedom as the central core of your political philosophy is always the best course of action to take in IMHO. Freedom doesn't mean that you accept every conflicting idiology as equivilent, just that you give those conflicting idiologies a voice. Those that are the best will always rise to the top, AS LONG as the population is educated and aware, and stays involved.

Oz is Lala Land

Let me get this straight....The government of NSW in Australia conducted a search of registered shooters and confiscated/destroyed over 43,000 weapons on specious "storage safety violations".

Now we have a story about a man who ADMITS to two murders; DNA evidence found at the scene of one of the murders ties him to the murder. Prosecutors have testimony that the defendant admited commiting the murders.

He has been in jail for 16 months awaiting trial for the murders, and today, he's a free man. Why? Because the judge in the case ruled that the DNA evidence was "damning to the defendant", and might cause a jury to "unfairly" convict him?!?! A court source said: "The evidence would be too prejudicial for the jury to hear, they would naturaly assume from some of the evidence, that he was guilty. Um....isn't that the reason for evidence? Any evidence that shows guilt will naturaly bias the jury into believeing the defendant is guilty, if it didn't, it wouldn't be evidence, would it?

Just WHAT are they drinking/smoking/ingesting in Oz that leads to such Idiotarian behaviour?!?
