21 I was born to Noir. Here's mine:

I'd been quiet for three miles. Too quiet. The kind of quiet that means a person is either building a bomb or fixing to blow their own cover.

Then I spilled it. The words came out fast, tripping over each other like a suspect catching a glimpse of the rubber hose. No preamble. Just raw nerve and a question hanging in the stale air of the sedan.

I didn't blink. I just reached into my coat pocket, pulled out a pack of Luckies, and waited for the smoke to clear before I gave you the straight dope.

"You want to stop for some hooch?"

"Honey, I don't swing that way."

I explain knitting patterns to people as code, but with more variations, so not binary. Charted patterns use a series of symbols for the different stitches in each row. They can be very complex, as in lace knitting.
Written patterns use abbreviations for the stitches: K, P,
K2tog, YO, sl1, etc. in combinations to form the pattern.
Same goes for crochet...

117 The California Dream dimmed considerably for me after the great grocery strike of 2003-4. The workers believed the union leadership and struck Safeway (Vons), Kroger (Ralphs) and Albertsons primarily over employer paid healthcare. At a time when everyone else routinely contributed to an employer-sponsored plan, these yahoos thought they could continue with the free ride they had been enjoying up til then.

I honored the line for a few weeks, hoping an adult would finally step in and explain reality and get everyone back to work ahead of Thanksgiving. Nope. Christmas? Sorry. Walked into the local Albertsons to find the butcher shop dark and partitioned off. The produce - California Fresh! was pitiful.

Started to do most of my shopping at Trader Joes and a few independents. Everyone else did the same. I remember sitting out at my local Coffee Bean and I recognized an Albertsons cashier walking the picket line and looking pretty defeated. Young guy, with a family. When the strike ended, about five or six months after it started, I never saw him again...

125 AK used to be Safeway and Carrs, exclusively. Carrs was local, and there is still the Carr-Gottstein Corporation outside of the grocery business. Carrs is the high end grocery, with really good produce and prices to match. Most of what you need you can get at Freddie's, cheaper, but not always the same quality. Costco is in Anchorage, and some folks drive in a load up a month's worth, usually if they have a lot of kids. Then there is Three Bears, which is our local out here, and it is kind of a stepped down Costco. They carry a fair bit of the stuff Costco has, plus their own groceries, some really good spices and spice mixes, and a gun counter where you can get just about anything plus ammo. Some camping stuff, some car stuff, lots of animal feed, particularly for small farming, and great local beef and other meat items. It's a bit more pricey, but the drive is about 15 minutes vs. half an hour to Wasilla or an hour to Costco in Anchorage, so it pays for itself. Freddie's, Costco and Three Bears also has gas. But Three Bears is our vibe.

147 @117...we had a weird Thanksgiving about 20yrs ago on the farm. My brother would report to me and my dude that mother kept getting the turkey out to thaw, then putting it back in the freezer after he'd take it out again over two days or so.

We, being somewhat sane, thought this was weird. At 10pm Wed night my dude notes the frozen/unfrozen turkey was still frozenish and probably full of salmonella.

We decide to leave to find another turkey in the Podunk Boonies of MS. Found a fresh turkey, the last one, that looked ok.

Had left a note in the event my parents, brothers or sons noticed we'd left. No one noticed as you sleep soundly there.

The next morning, mother was annoyed at our drama and I think probably ate the weird turkey after we left (yet they all still lived). We ate the one we figured wouldn't kill us that weekend.

She would also invite about 50 relatives for this dinner, potluck. Approx one third of these relatives were dysfunctional. It made for many stories for our sons in later years.

This week my brother sent me fakebook photos of one cousin finding one of her 3 husbands for true love again. I texted Honey Boo Boo's family have entered our Shakespearean play.

164 If I were going to commence a retirement career as a hitman, I would build me an over and under double barrelled derringer, muzzle-loader, with electric ignition. No action to make a click, no ejected brass. With a one-time wiper type suppressor on each barrel. That would be for the hits. Carry a regular automatic to fight my way out if something goes wrong on the job.

Mom used to buy a case of bread from the Sunrise Bakery second day store. Was just as cheap as making it, and a lot easier. Then it was Carrs on Gambell for meat and produce, and then Safeway on Gambell for everything else. The checkout ladies at Safeway were amazing, with huge beehive hairdos, and they never looked at the manual register while they rung things up, and they never made mistakes, either. Mom always gossiped with them, and then after she always checked the receipt.

The Sunrise is now Franz, but the other two stores are gone. Passing of an era.

Also, Pay n Save, and Montgomery Ward with the escalator.

Lots of lost things these days. Progress, I suppose.

One of my cow-workers googled it quickly and was shocked to find I was right. "How do you know this stuff?!?" since it was haram in leftist circles to question Islam even then. "Oh I just read history and a lot of it" and I moved the conversation to something else in the news.

Well, we are talking about a hypothetical hitman's pistol. Or James Bond weapon, if you will. Two barrels, so if you screw up the first shot, you get a second chance. The Welrod was a single-shot, remember. Smooth bore means really no markings on the slug for the ballistics investigators hang a case on.

Cheap and cheerful. You use it for the hit, go home, chuck the barrels in your lathe, and turn them into metal chips.

I love snow. Lots of snow that parts of the Intermountain West wiffed last year. More! I want more than normal! Send it!

Saw the end of the cafe of you telling your man to get it together. We're 47yrs married and still like each other. Actually I'm still crazy about him. We're good!

Some of my classmates were shocked we were still together at the reunion in September, looking at photos. They knew him well and the rocky road of our first year. My roommates both loved him because he cooked for us.

Two classmates them lived upstairs in the (now) historic 150 yr old house where we fell in love.

I've been meaning to take the kids out to dinner and knock on the door to ask permission for a photo on the front porch. I'll probably be shot, but there's always the sidewalk with the house in the background. It's historic, all right.

I need to rake a million leaves tomorrow and do chores as I'm behind in everything in life.

Goodnight and have a pleasant tomorrow!

201 Oh speaking of MA I have to bring up again the absolute clown show they have going on.

The State Auditor, a democrat, whose job is to audit the state and its agencies tried to audit the MA state legislature near the start of the year and failed - the legislature argued they were outside of her legal reach and the governor/AG/state court backed them up.

So obviously they are crooked as hell. The auditor worked with outsized groups and got a ballot question to give her the power to audit the crooks. Her measure won by something like 90-10. But the same massholes re-elected all the same crooks who had promised they'd abide by the question if it won because you know they want clean government too the auditor just didn't have the power to do it.

Well, now that the election is over you'll be shocked to know those same crooks are already saying they don't care what the ballot question says she doesn't have the power to audit them.

Now NemoMeImpuneLacessit's point is right, we also have archeological evidence.

But...the argument is that the Romans, Jews, and Greeks who hated plenty of other groups, INCLUDING EACH OTHER, all came up with the same calumny against several different Punic civilizations and didn't use it against their other enemies?

We need to educate the masses about pisslam. But the problem is: how to do it without getting branded. Ugh.

I woke up last night to find the ghost of Gloria Gaynor standing at the foot of my bed.

At first I was afraid...then I was petrified.

Class warfare and psy ops deployed through a compliant lockstep media

Yes to both. And a LOT, a HUGE AMOUNT, of CHEATING.

And we should thank Thune by booting that prick from our party. He should be forced to caucus with the Dems. And EVERY SINGLE "Republican" senator who gavelled an EMPTY session (rather than allowing the Senate to "recess", when Trump could make recess appointments) should be asked over and over again why they SOLD THEIR SOUL to do that. Fuck every last one of them. The "Republican" party needs a HUGE purge.

231 Report: Trump's new DNI trying to reverse staff cuts. He was confirmed in July.

Trump's team has screwed up again. How can we pare government when every silo wants to be higher. And worse why are we airing our laundry?

WTF does this guy think he's doing?

234 Well, I am done with the big zero-steer mower. Starter still sounded like crap when I cranked the engine, a V-twin Kohler. Took the plastic fan shroud off. Ran the starter. Pinion is wobbling all over the place. Take starter out, and tear it down. Basic standard Bendix drive. The drive pinion was supposed to be attached to the spiral cam by a nylon molded bushing. All gone. The pinion spun free on the starter shaft, which was bent, badly. I managed to mostly straighten the bent shaft, reducing the runout from about a quarter inch to about .020". Welded the pinion to the spiral cam, replaced the drive end bushing. Put starter back in. It runs pretty quiet, and cranks the engine with authority. Short of a new starter, it's the best I can do. Drove the mower around, and mowed a little with it. It does the job.

235 If I ever speak with leftard sis again, I will ask her what she thinks will be "next step" if her nasty wish for PDT comes true. Of course, she probably hasn't thought of the 'ten minutes after' her psychopathic hatred of him.

236 They say Wyoming's enemy is colorado. Fair enough - I agree. But you can't go wrong just putting California in almost any state west of Kansas either

{{{hugs}}} for you and Ralphy!

*Caregiver burnout* is a real thing, and isn't just for our human patients. I'm so sorry. Ralphy doesn't know what's going on, and he depends so much on you; it's got to be very stressful after a while.

I hope you can carry on just a bit more. Prayers up for you both...

You know, that's brilliant.

If any of us ever wanted to conduct a "communist intervention", that chart would make a great focal point.

That lasts exactly as long as it takes for a state to actually attempt to do this.

Then the mob with torches and pitchforks shows up.

Imagine what would've happened in 2024 if California (a signatory to this idiotic compound) had been forced to throw all its electoral votes to Donald Trump, as he won the popular vote.

Yeah, ugly, huh?

243 I've been thinking, and I realized that I don't hate anyone.

I may pity them, fear them, be disappointed or disgusted by them, or want to slap them silly so they understand consequences.

Would I start slapping them? No. It's counterproductive, and the list nowadays would grow faster than I could pare it down.

Isn't it weird? If people still need educating on it after all this then the ship has likely sailed. This was a "we totally get it after 9/12" thing or a "let's elect a Hussein" thing. Either or and no in between.

What do you think a current poll of "Muslims are dangerous" vs "Jews are dangerous" would even look like........

Remember, these mooks think there are still "Fascists" when there haven't been any real Fascists in over 80 years.

Some of them haven't been in for a Pravda upgrade since the collapse of the Soviet Union.
