Now That Democrats Captured Texas, They Can Get Rid of the Electoral College By Passing a Law That Texas Will Vote for the "National Popular Vote Winner" No Matter Who Texans Actually Prefer

The National Popular Vote Compact is an effort to get rid of the electoral college without the hurdle of a constitutional amendment. Leftwing states have signed up for the compact, which says that when enough states join the compact to control a majority of the electoral votes, they are all obligated to cast their electoral college votes for the national popular vote winner, even if the voters in the state cast their votes decisively for the other candidate.

To be honest, I slept on this and didn't consider it a big risk because the leftwing states could not actually control a majority of the 540 electoral votes. So, I thought, this will never come to pass.

Except the left just captured Texas.

So now it's possible.

How about fundamentally changing the way we elect the president of the United States?

No constitutional amendment. No two-thirds vote in Congress. No ratification by three-fourths of the states. And certainly no meaningful national debate about whether Americans actually want to abandon the presidential election system we've used for more than two centuries.

They may be able to accomplish the whole thing with a handful of votes in several newly Democratic state legislatures.

And thanks to Tuesday's election results, they're closer than ever.

...

The compact doesn't take effect until participating states collectively control at least 270 electoral votes, the number required to elect a president.

As of today, 18 states and Washington, D.C., have signed on.

Together, they control 222 electoral votes.

They need just 48 more.

Tuesday's Elections May Have Given Democrats Everything They Need

This is where the results of the 2026 midterms become enormously consequential.

Democrats appear to have gained control of both legislative chambers and the governor's office in five important presidential battleground states.

And none of those states currently belongs to the compact.

Look at the electoral votes:

Pennsylvania: 19

Michigan: 15

Arizona: 11

Wisconsin: 10

Nevada: 6

That's 61 electoral votes.

Add those to the existing 222, and the compact would control 283 electoral votes.

Hi everybody. Happy Friday. I apologize for starting off with this bad news.

Aside from that I think the constitutionality problem would trip this thing up. It's so extreme, that even the farcical SCOTUS would probably feel obliged to do the obvious thing (if even grudgingly, and possibly for the last time).

It goes against the spirit and the black letter of the law.

The Framers were certainly aware of how a popular vote worked - they could have put that into the Constitution but chose not to.

Problem is, the Left would be happy to put more legislators on the bench, rather than judges.

65 Really of more concern is taking TX out of the "safe" GOP states in presidential cycles. Not that that's a given, but looking at Tuesday, isn't it at least "a thing"?

People's Hippo's info is somewhat reassuring on the even more urgent matter. TX is by far the largest and most important border sector. And has been a solid and important non-"sanctuary" state.

Any of that changes, the effort to restore rule of law takes a big, big hit. But if the border county sheriffs are all good with their 287gs (guess they are?), that helps a lot. And if the GOP Senate there can block any change by the big metros towards "sanctuary", that would be a huge relief.

After Congress "consents", would the current SCOTUS block? If so...a well-aimed wacko giving them a fortuitous vacancy or two on SCOTUS, and then...

The surge is largely explained by Hispanics, who live more in the South. While some proportion scaling with the wave is no doubt fraud, in bulk it is the appearance of a new and real group of voters. We got surprised by them just as much as Democrats were surprised by Trump's new constituency in 2016.

So I am left wondering. Did Soros capture the SecOfState offices in those red states? Is there at least one flipped to blue state where the state SoS and AG could investigate for vote fraud? Maybe the feds could help with investigating but politically I don't think the feds can initiate investigations.

92 It's not the "crossover" vote, it's the 2024 Trump switches. Hispanics, something like 17% (seems like that's actually higher in key places like TX/RGV), and young people a massive switch, 30%+.

If "crossover" simple means party ID voting for other party, it's indeed not the story.

The Hispanic switch, with some evidence it was due to immigration enforcement - yowzah.

97 > I don't see how my state giving it's EC votes to someone other than who the voters of this state select can pass this muster.

The thing is, nothing in the Constitution requires that the electoral votes be awarded on the basis of a popular vote.

In many states, and for many years, they were not. Typically the electoral votes were assigned by the state legislature.

Frankly, I'd like to see us go back to that, and also scrap the direct election of U.S. Senators.

From a meta standpoint, can a legislative act turn the US from a Republic to a Democracy? From a "raw power" standpoint, can legislation remove a "check" to un"balance" the 3 branches?

136 Red Turban, looks like the GOP vote held steady while the Dem vote saw I think the greatest increase in history (lots of questions about that).

But the ominous part to me was the Hispanic 2024 Trump voters switching. Not just for TX, but nationally. Among his notable unique accomplishments, Trump's flipping the RGV (only GOP figure to do so ever) and generally garnering strong %s of the Hispanic vote is among the most important, electorally.

If that support was ephemeral, or merely based on Trump's unique appeal (social values, strong alpha, not a stiff white guy in a suit) ...... oh boy.

Thing is, legal immigrants and 2nd-generation immigrants typically oppose illegal migration with the fury of a thousand suns. But they've been bamboozled into thinking enforcement is "mean", like 12-yr old girls? Puzzling, at this point.

It seems unlikely that either Peltola or Real Sullivan will break 50% in the first round, though it could happen.

If it goes to a second round, I think Real Sullivan has it. You have to figure that almost all of the Heikes votes and at least some of the Fake Sullivan votes are going to have Real Sullivan as their second choice.

We won't know for a while, as Alaska is one of the few states that allows absentee ballots to be postmarked by election day, not received by election day. There are historical reasons for this... there were (and still are, to some extent) a lot of places here where the mail doesn't exactly move quickly or predictably.

The drop-dead deadline for receiving votes is November 18, even if they are postmarked by election day.

Among his notable unique accomplishments, Trump's flipping the RGV (only GOP figure to do so ever) and generally garnering strong %s of the Hispanic vote is among the most important, electorally.

The biggest factor in the Hispanic swing is Hispanic voters who weren't voting before. Those ones didn't so much "switch" as show up for the first time.

Trump's personal machismo popularity probably accounts for a few percentage points but nothing dramatic.

Platform wise I'm not sure what killed us yet. It might have been ICE, or could just be 'affordability'. The case for it having been ICE is the idea the new voters were pissed about it, the case against is that it's been a strong platform so far and Rs polled well on immigration vs Ds.

Republicans had 54 million votes in 2022. Not meeting presidential year levels is normal. The dropoff has been a bit higher because our election year totals for 2016, 2020, and 2024 were including TrumpOnly voters (maybe about 10% of the R vote).

60 million would've been a fairly normalish turnout for Ds in 2026.

I believed this as well; but got various reasons I know and deal with a lot of these (fully legal) and I’ve been surprised to see that thanks in part to Spanish language media and also to some admittedly heavy handed enforcement, they as a group have come to feel completely terrorized over the last year. They may be legal, but every one of them has friend, cousins, spouses, co-workers and employees who are in at least the gray area of immigration. Not completely illegal, but more like trying to extend visas, work permits. These people are being told to live in fear every day, and it’s made the entire community, legal or not, angry and paranoid. That’s what came out in Texas on Tuesday.

It has been popular in our groups to say “too bad, deport them all” but when 55% of the state decides to go communist in response, that may not have been the right plan.

222 Kamala got 75 million votes in 2024. Trump got 77 million.

According to the chart Piper linked, Democraps got 70 million votes on Tuesday. That's less than they got in 2024.

But we got only 55 million. As I've been saying, we just stayed home. Had we showed up like we did in 2024 -- 77 million votes -- we would have won.

Posted by: Elric The Blade at November 06, 2026 12:44 PM (iFTx/)

Republicans had 54 million votes in 2022. Not meeting presidential year levels is normal. The dropoff has been a bit higher because our election year totals for 2016, 2020, and 2024 were including TrumpOnly voters (maybe about 10% of the R vote).

60 million would've been a fairly normalish turnout for Ds in 2026.

Well, yea. That's my point: Dems got their people to turn out like it was a presidential election year, by nationalizing the local elections. They showed up like Trump was on the ballot. Like in 2024.

We did not. We phoned in the normal mid-cycle turnout. Had we taken this election much more seriously, like we did in 2024, we would have gotten close to the 77M votes we did in 2024, and won.

226 The surge is largely explained by Hispanics, who live more in the South. While some proportion scaling with the wave is no doubt fraud, in bulk it is the appearance of a new and real group of voters. We got surprised by them just as much as Democrats were surprised by Trump's new constituency in 2016.

Unlike 2020, where Biden's new voters were unexplained and disappeared like the morning dew, we have actual people here.

>>>>
So I am supposed to believe that all these 20 million hispanics who voted for Ds are actual hispanic citizens who are pissed that Trump is deporting the new Latin Americans who undercut their wages? Possibly plausible as a group that Hispancis were extra pissed by the high fuel prices and stupid enough to think voting D might lower those prices, but to the tune of 20 million votes? Pull the other finger.

Start with that as the headwind.

then add in that all the Rs were running on was "Dems are gonna trans your kids!!!"
And recall that, in 2024, voters flat refused to believe the crazy shit Kamala said--even when it was direct quotes.

So they're already against the R, and the R is blathering on something you don't really believe and nothing on what you're worried about = Guess I'll Vote Blue

228 The national popular vote compact is an unconstitutional interstate compact.

That's why it's the model for my unconstitutional interstate compact.

My idea is to pursue it in a much more resilient way. It's going to take awhile, just like NPV. But it will expand and deepen their approach, by attacking the problem in three tiers.

The NPV approach only goes at a mix of the second two parts of my strategy.

1.) States that allow Constitutional ballot initiatives

2.) States that allow legislative ballot initiatives

3.) States that have no initiative process

It will also focus the approach by not striving for a maximum bound but a minimum one. 10 States. I'm not constrained as much by population as geography. I want the most scattered group of States possible.

Unlikely. Take ballot harvesting, for example. Imagine the GOPe spends $100 million on it. The Dem have a lock on the election officials, most DAs and judges. Which means the officials can throw out ballots harvested by the GOP, and the DAs won't pursue charges, and judges will bounce most civil challenges. I'm not saying it's impossible to reverse, just that in states like CA & NY, the doors to their tactics are entirely in the Dems' hands.

259 Revelation 12:14 is often interpreted to mean the Beast shall reign for 3 1/2 years.

That is the Premillenial Dysfunctional understanding of that passage. John only saw the United States in the last days of its existence and no other body of people over the last two thousand years gained any benefit or edification from this passage.

The orthodox view is sees the wings of the Eagle and immediately recalls Exodus 19:4 "I bore you on eagles' wings and brought you to myself" very well understood by the Jews being ministered by John (completely unknown to Evangelicals today).

the "time, times and half-time" could have been stated "three and one-half years" if that is what was meant, but the symbology is obvious to those who know how to read apocalyptic prose.

The point is not that God's people escape all suffering, its that He delivers them from ultimate destruction. (Read Exodus for more details). The wilderness is simultaneously a place of hardship and divine provision

293 I believe there's a clause in the us constitution that prohibits state compacts. Is this correct?
1:06 PM
You are correct. The provision you are thinking of is the Compact Clause, found in Article I, Section 10, Clause 3 of the United States Constitution.
It states:
"No State shall, without the Consent of Congress, lay any Duty of Tonnage, keep Troops, or Ships of War in time of Peace, enter into any Agreement or Compact with another State, or with a foreign Power, or engage in War, unless actually invaded, or in such imminent Danger as will not admit of delay."
The intent of the Framers was to ensure that the federal government retains oversight regarding agreements between states or with foreign powers, preventing states from forming political blocs or alliances that might undermine national sovereignty or central authority.
However, the Supreme Court has interpreted the scope of this clause narrowly in cases like Virginia v. Tennessee (1893). The Court held that the clause only applies to agreements that might encroach upon or interfere with the "just supremacy of the United States." Therefore, many administrative or cooperative agreements between states—such as those dealing wi

Documented proof of citizenship like birth certificate, passport and naturalization papers is not required at the time of voter registration in Texas

56.5% of Texas voter registration were classified as “new valid registrations.”

Politics is not my life. Not during the Obungo Error, and not now.

The Bible says 365 times not to be afraid. I ain't going to start now with ninny's like the Dims winning a midterm and things as they are. My life is fine.

It might go completely bad and horrific.

I will die fighting if it comes to it, but I know where I'm going and have no fear.

I absolutely do not want sons and grands to have to deal with this mess that I pray against.

People with faith are not weak, as some may see our prayers "not working." It is not a Magic 8 Ball when you pray and you don't get answers or what you pray for. Faith is not seen and I accept God's will.

This country with tik tok witches praying against Trump, supporting abortion, euthansia, pedophilia, etc is what I will continue to pray against. He hears our prayers.

Sometimes things are won by going through really, really bad times. We've been spoiled vs our ancestors who went through far worse. We'll see.

I will never give up or fear what is ahead.

There will be a fight, it's been a done deal that I have called out since June 2016 when the progs started allowing widespread open violence against conservatives. The exposure of Obama's last minute intelligence abuses and the russia scheme cemented it into place.

Look at which states required proof of citizenship to vote, even indirectly via enhanced IDs. Look at the early voting totals and new registrations. Look at why FL and TX were so different and why. Look at which states' "extra" dem house/senate votes didn't translate into prop. or lower office votes.

Near 20 million people did not only vote for federal house/senate, that's nonsense. "Gee, we just have to vote harder next time!". Yeah, no. You are not voting you way out of this.
