Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | The Last Good Generation: Gen XThat's completely true. It's provably true -- the Boomers were such a big generation that the media continued to push Boomer-era bands and Boomer-era bullshit (hippie liberalism, Woodstock) even when we became adults. We all naively believed that when we became adults the culture would reflect our preferences, but no, it was all Boomer Crap all the time. Until the Millennials came of age -- and then the culture shifted from Boomer-dominated to Millennial-dominated. Not a day of Gen X dominated. ...Unrelated: Unexpectedly, October's job creation numbers smashed expectations. Wages went up, too. Total nonfarm payroll employment rose by 165,000 in October, and the unemployment rate changed little at 4.1 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Employment increased in professional and business services, in health care, and in transportation and warehousing. ... In October, average hourly earnings for all employees on private nonfarm payrolls increased by 14 cents, or 0.4 percent, to $38.00. Over the past 12 months, average hourly earnings have increased by 3.1 percent. In October, average hourly earnings of private-sector production and nonsupervisory employees rose by 12 cents, or 0.4 percent, to $32.75.

---- Yeah, that's how that works--you reduce illegal workers (supply of labor) and the price paid to the legal workers goes up, assuming the demand for labor stays the same (or increases, which it has done under Trump). Belt to ass and dipshit, wonder how old these two are:
------------------ St. Louis Park Mayor Nadia Mohamed celebrated the results of Tuesday’s election with a social media post on TikTok declaring that “America has spoken” and using the phrase “belt to ass.” “America has spoken! We want belt to ass!!! So start your engines!! #election,” Mohamed wrote in the caption of the video. The video shows Mohamed celebrating in front of the Minnesota State Capitol while text across the screen reads, “When a blue wave hits!” Mohamed was elected mayor in 2023 after previously serving on the St. Louis Park City Council. ------------- Congressman-elect Matt Little also used profane language while addressing supporters at the DFL election watch party in downtown St. Paul after winning Minnesota’s Second Congressional District. “I think it’s pretty clear America is sending a message,” Little said. “The first message they sent is that Pete Hegseth is a dipshit. The second message they sent is that JD Vance is a dipshit. The third and final message they sent is that Donald Trump is a dipshit.” Posted by: beckster at November 06, 2026 06:50 PM (kX27y) 18

Eromero speaks wisdom.
Technically I'm a very late boomer I suppose. And I share about 7% of the stereotypical traits (some mentioned in the post) of so-called boomers. Would never occur to me to tell someone "get a job at the factory". Huh? Umm I lived through the major de-industrialization of the US, know it well, have always focused on economics though it's never been my job. Sadly I know quite a few in my cohort who are just as ignorant, or driven by resentment or envy, as is easily seen in younger segments. People whose "politics" haven't changed since they were 17 - and these are pretty lazy uninformed politics. Life experience and work experience hasn't given them any wisdom at all, it appears. Young people yearn for the 1980s that they have heard so much about, but they don't seem to understand that most of what is different between now and then is an attitude. A way of looking at things and people.
They want what we have, but they don't want to make the decisions that they have to make to get it. I'm really not sure how to say this right. I guess I'm saying people say "decline is a choice," but it's not just one choice, it's ongoing choices made every day. Watching it is like having a friend that wants a good family life like mine, but keeps making the same destructive life choices over and over again that keep them miserable. Hold firm. Our sons are Millennial's, conservative Christians, raised right by their crazy parents who shed their hippie ways before their births. They have had good to great education and degrees, great jobs, beautiful and successful wives who also work and one balances 3 kids, gorgeous grandchildren with the hope for more who will someday vote similar. I am unsure what their generation will be named but they embrace God and family at young ages and in private Catholic school. They love God, family and country as we instill this in them. I thank God for those of all colors holding on in 2026. I don't care what your hair color or piercings if you voted the right way for America. The Boomers were raised by the Greatest Generation. The Greatest put in all of the government programs that we are fighting against today. They invented the UN, NATO, World Bank, IMF and all of the other international institutions we've been watching take more and more control over eight decades because that generation, and their parents, had fought a bloody war and wanted a better life for their children. They had no clue that so many of their children would be brainwashed, indoctrinated and turned into socialists by the time they got to college. Then hundreds of thousands of them got sent off to Vietnam. That was the 60s and 70s and it only got worse from there. To blame the Boomers for the way they were raised and for things that occurred that were beyond their control is ridiculous. The Boomers just so happened to be born at and grew up during a post-war boom that lasted for twenty years and made America the most powerful country in the world. Stop blaming old people for your own problems. Posted by: SpeakingOf at November 06, 2026 07:10 PM (6ydKt) 69

Unshackling US energy production resulting in greatest output in history? Initiating process of repatriating manufacturing industry to the US? Again, starting a climb in real wages for the middle/lower tiers - for the second time, he did it already in Term 1 prior to The Great Idiocy? Cutting government for the first time in 4 decades? Beginning to uncover and correct the massive, massive fraud ongoing against taxpayers in welfare programs? Building a ballroom (free to taxpayers) of the sort that's been a highly desired and overdue project for 3 or 4 presidents? Bullying is self-regulating, as well. If the biggest kid in your grade is being too much of a dick to his classmates, the big kids in the next grade up would eventually put the little fucker in his place.

My dad used to say that people confuse kindness with weakness right up until the moment your hands are on their throats.
It would be wrong of you to believe that guy holding the door is doing so because he’s obsequious and servile. He’s been raised to show respect right up until the moment you show you don’t deserve it. It feels like a lot of people are going to learn this the hard way. Stephen Blair, yeah I noted that, in several states I think bond issues voted down (usually a good thing, sadly, for the last few decades).
Cost of living. I guess people expect a return to 2019 prices, or something. Of course not the way it works. The hidden zinger here, which does blame Trump for much of the inflation, I never say. But it goes back to 2020 of course. And it muddies the waters since his successor greatly exacerbated things without even a (flawed) rationale of any kind. Some presidents get to play in god mode and dick around destroying the whole map, killing NPCs, and just doing random bullshittery while cheating in cash with console commands to do whatever they hell they want.
Other presidents have to pull off a no-hit 100% speedrun world record or else they suck and have no idea what they're doing and should probably quit. Posted by: Warai-otoko at November 06, 2026 07:21 PM (aKiSo) 98
Some of it really does seem to come down to cost of living. Here in Texas there were two surprising waves. The second was that most tax increases (mostly schools, I think) got voted down.
This was not your typical blue wave. I had an argument with a lefty instructor at my junior college once on The "Great" depression and FDR. He said the people just wanted someone to do something, anything to help them in the economic downturn. I argued that the best thing to do is nothing, let it run it's course. He called me entitled and an elitist, while at the time I was making minimum wage. So I got that going for me. Posted by: Entitled Elitist at $2.65 an hour at November 06, 2026 07:21 PM (Ssbab) 99

There used to be an excuse to drink a lot tied to a tour that went from Watertown to Marblehead, MA called The Great Race. It was really just a drunken clown show that required drinking pretty much non-stop for 26 miles and finding some way to get to the finish line. Which was a bar. People rode bikes, not racing bikes, walked, ran skateboarded and whatever and stopped frequently. To drink. My ex used to do it on those metal skates you attached to sneakers. We were young once. For those knocking Boomers, and I don't care:
We were poor when we bought our first house under Reagan in 1985 at 12.45% interest rates. Saving money on one income (well, I worked as a nurse 1 day/week) for five years after we married. Two houses later we are doing very well. Without any help from anyone. We ate Hamburger Helper and other stuff we cooked at home. Going out to dinner was reserved for a birthday or our wedding anniversary poor. Starbucks did not exist then. Taco Bell or McDonald's was a treat. It was rare to spend money on anything but rent or food. I was wearing college sweaters during my first pregnancy 2yrs later. So, shut thy pie hole at 7.18% interest rates for a 30yr mortgage with a downpayment you saved for. We had it worse with two kids to raise. We didn't complain and had a great life.
