Sorry, CBD. After the voting last night I just don't have the heart or energy to delve into something like this. If I look at art today, it will be some Dutch Golden Age still life paintings: ebullient, colorful, and a joy to look at.

96 The Joni lyrics for clouds and Both Sides Now actually fit really well the modern climate.

Oh, but now, old friends, they're acting strange
And they shake their heads, and they tell me that I've changed
Well, something's lost, but something's gained
In living every day
Oh, I've looked at life from both sides now
From win and lose and still somehow
It's life's illusions, I recall
I really don't know life at all

I've been told I've changed politically. Less of a declaration than a vitriolic accusation. Fiddlesticks. I've stayed the same... maybe gotten more of a spine and take less of other people's crap. It's everyone else that's gone barmy.

This song is used perfectly in the movie CODA. Though I winced when the music teacher says it's a "classical" piece she's using for her audition. But the ending where she signs it to her family during the audition? Tears.

Robert Cocke

Nice colors, cheerful in a sense.

Good for a teenage girl's bedroom or even more so for decorating the home of the Gavin Newsom family.

Wikipedia, Robert D. Cocke (born 1950) is an American painter based in Arizona, known for enigmatic invented landscapes and still lifes.[1][2][3] He emerged in the 1980s, producing expressionistic figurative paintings with a socio-critical dimension that drew on Chicago Imagism, Funk art and surrealism.[1][4][5] In the 1990s, he turned to unpopulated, panoramic vistas combining classical painting technique and surreal features, which critics have described as hyperreal, hallucinatory and otherworldly.[6][7][1] Curator Julie Sasse has written that despite dramatic changes in style and subject matter, his work has asserted "a consistent desire to address not only human relationships, but also the relationships between humankind and the natural world."[8]

Would pass hanging today's selection, but learned something of the artist, Cocke.

Thanks.

Larry Niven's The Magic Goes Away has a scene where the Warlock and two of his colleagues call up enough mana to make a cloud pillowy but solid, and they all travel atop the cloud. Worrying all along that they'd hit a patch dead to magic, their spells would fail, and they'd all be trying to learn how to fly. But it's faster than traveling overland on horses.

This is something I observed quite a while ago. The 60’s “protest” tunes are much, MUCH better calibrated for what the leftists have actually wrought.

They are the “Man”. The Establishment. And far worse in government than anything they bitcher about in the 60.. The “peace love dope” hippies were just useful idiots, played like a fiddle by the spooks and commies.

“Well it worked, didn’t it?”

Groovy

A friend sent this. Good advice for today.

As we enter this season of lengthening shadows, where the natural world turns toward darkness, coldness, and harshness, it is easy for our hearts to feel the weight of a shifting world. When the outcomes of human systems leave us dismayed and shaken, we are reminded that our ultimate hope has never rested in the kingdoms of this earth.
Let us avoid the temptation to consume our souls with the anxieties of this world. The Holy Spirit invites us to focus internally. Just as winter calls us to seek the warmth of the hearth, this season invites us to anchor ourselves deeply in what nurtures our soul - our faith, our family and our friendships.

I also believe that when the economy, in the next two years, finally shows the results of Trump, the Dems will take all the credit and a credulous, ignorant electorate will believe them.

"We?" I have been saying for a while that the data centers have made both MAGA and Marxists mad. It's one of the few things the average voter unites on.

You cannot trample on people's clean air, water, electric needs while building data centers to "beat China." Ranchers and farmers and the middle class don't care about China, they care that the data centers are destroying their communities and leaders are so greedy they just approve them.

They want to put a data center larger than Manhattan next to the great salt lake. It was supposed to be 3x larger than Manhattan, but the people screamed about it, and voted out the county commissioners, they wised up. Put a giant data center in a desert next to a lake? This was always stupid.

Add to that the governor of Utah's dad runs the largest fiber optic company in Utah. Who do you think will get the bid to run cable to the data center? There is corruption and Backrooms deals and it's making voters mad. Rightfully so.

Demographic shifts, and yes Californians coming here and voting like they did in California.

Also, as I have mentioned several several times, Paxton was a historically bad candidate and he ran a historically bad campaign. Not saying that Cornyn wasn't a useless turd that deserved to get thrown out, but Paxton sucks. Nobody here likes him. He's got the retail political skills of Hillary and is only slightly more likeable.

I don't like that people vote based on the "likeability" of a candidate, but the fact is, they do. Hard.

I staked my reputation that I have even an inkling of what is going on around us on one single "prediction" because predicting outcomes is fucking hard. And I will stand behind what I see in the unfortunate DNC-DSA op that I believe we will now fully marinate in.

Over the last year the Democrats yoinked strength, youth, energy and masculinity out from under us. It's all phony and underhanded but they did it. Kamala represented NONE of those things and they believed, perhaps correctly, that it's how Trump beat her. Yes youth. A schoolmarm is not youth.

Voters generally like those four things. How do we get it back? We need a party that is willing to embrace a leader that isn't cucked, not to mention their own voters, and I'm not seeing it.

Actually it doesn't matter who on the Dem side wins. We've seen with Biden (and probably Obama) that there is a cadre of insiders who know how to run things. Harris, Butt-boy, Newscum, Charismatic dunce to be named later, it doesn't matter, they are mere figureheads.

Same goes for all the new Dem govs, they'll aal follow the Slotkin, Spanberger model, they have a playbook and experts ready to run it in each state.

There are plenty, I'd have to look them up. But in states like TX and GA, new data centers messed with the water people got in their homes. They're taps slowed to a trickle. Texas supposedly used around 50 billion gallons of water cooling data centers. Do they just have an extra 50 billion gallons? Guess who suffers for that?

You cannot build data centers unless you build more dams. You need the water collection and the hydroelectric. Good luck getting that passed today!

328 Hey folks, been a while.

Gotta admit, the dems have played the long game perfectly. They have cobbled together a coalition of mutts and placed them exactly where they need to be now.

Forget everything you thought you knew. This is a new world.

America, a third-world nation with first-world amenities.

330 Yes, because the GOP Brand here sucks. Paxton is just a symptom of it. The TX GOP is ascendent in all of the worst aspects of the overall republican brand and diminished in the ones that make it good.

Moral busybodies, Bushies, Dallas Social Climbers, and hypercapitalists that are incapable of expressing anything vaguely resembling empathy for Texans.

333 But in states like TX and GA, new data centers messed with the water people got in their homes.

That was largely debunked (it was recycled anti-fracking propaganda), it's less water than a golf course uses, and the new data centers being built now only need to be filled once (like the water coolers in higher-end PCs).

335 It is very helpful to go to a service of morning prayer service the day after an election. I expect there were people at the early Catholic Mass as well. Whatever is happening in the world you get great words of scripture such as Psalm 98:7-"
But the Lord shall endure forever he hath also prepared his seat for judgement" , or from Psalm 100: "For the Lord is gracious , his mercy is everlasting : and his truth endured from generation to generation." Even the closing song was nice "Then Hear, O gracious Savior, accept the love we bring, that we who know your favor may serve you as our King; and whether our tomorrows be filled with good or ill, we'll triumph through our sorrows and rise to bless you still : to marvel at your beauty and glory in your ways, and make a joyful duty our sacrifice of praise."

I don't trust the people in power who are over eager to thrust AI into every aspect of my life. 339 I think one of the worst things about AI is the way it let's an average imbecile ask a bajillion questions, some relevant, many not, by clicking a single button.

So you get these reddit threads now (for example) with 20 bolded headings and 3 sub questions per heading. 60 questions in a single post. No one is gonna read that shit. But anyone who wants to has to ferret through it all.

We're all going to need AI "readers" and eventually no one real will be participating in anything because it takes minimal effort to do so.

341 The Dems will fight a lot.
Start investigations in Congress and make accusations of corruption and white supremacy.
They'll continuously make asses out of themselves for two straight years with, I expect, a few attempts at impeachment from the cabinet and the president.
They'll do the same thing they did in 2019-2021.
When they absolutely lost their minds and went full tyrant for a year.
I believe the only thing that saved the Dems in 2020 was COVID & George Floyd.

Trump needs to get it together and get things done in the next few months because it's going to be a long two years.
Let's hope we're feeling a lot better on this day in 2028.

We may not like many of the ways 'big tech' has changed our lives, but consider one simple scenario that was once common in the '50s: You're on a quiet yet somehow deserted back-country road that's a 2-lane blacktop with a faded yellow line you can hardly see separating the lanes. BAM! You have a flat. Your spare (if you had one) is also flat. You have no compressor to plug into the cigarette lighter. You're miles from a pay phone. In the question asked by the old commercial: "What do you do? What DO you do?". I likes me my iPhone - and my compressor.

My fave is how it's killing Google ad revenue since users no longer have to click to get the info they searched.

Second is how it's killing Redditt, as it was giving them massive traffic (for their ad revenue), and they're going to log-in only, locking AI out.

I could probably benefit more from it, but there are times I do not want to use it because of the type of information I would be asking it to review.

But to CBDs point, yes recording doctor conversations likely make things better because it may spot something that a doctor would overlook. But a cautious and maybe more conspiratorial type person may think it would be used by insurance to deny funding, so why be fully truthful.

This is 1980, but with objective conditions ranking in the upper third of any person's lifetime, and an opposition party with no stated agenda and only in the headlines, for years, with the most histrionic and often repugnant antics seen in modern times, STILL in service to the wrong side of 80/20 issues.
