The Trump administration lifted Magnitsky Act sanctions on de Moraes, his wife, and his holding company last December. They should be immediately reimposed.
Further, visa bans should be imposed on every government official who has touched the Bolsonaro investigations - and their families too. Finally, Section 301 tariffs on Brazilian goods should be quadrupled. The Brazilian regime should look carefully at what has happened to Venezuela and Cuba, and remember that this hemisphere belongs to the United States of America. === +100 Posted by: runner at October 28, 2026 03:13 PM (AKptf) 4

Lula was a big part of the Sao Paulo Forum when it was formed back in the 90s.
Lula and Fidel Castro were the main instigators behind this idea after the fall of the Berlin Wall. Basically, it's a large conference of leftist parties from around South America and the Caribbean, they also allowed leftist parties from the rest of the world as well. A lot of the '21st Century Socialism' that Chavez won on in Venezuela were based on ideas, strategies, and tactics developed at the SPF. It's been a poison in Latin America, but especially in Brazil where there younger generations are all totally brainwashed by an education system that is all the woke of American, Canadian, and European education and then some. Between Lula, and his chosen successor Rousseff who was ultimately impreached, Brazil has been ruled by the PT (Worker's Oarty) since 2004. The only break from it, and the only man who ever had a chance to win those two decades, was Jair Bolsanaro winning in 2017. The PT is dug in like a tick now, and they aren't letting go. If we, in America, can take anything from the situation it's that this is a vision of the future for us if the Dems take control in 2029. Military has long lost its apetite for intervening, I think. Recall that as in other neighboring countries they were drawn in in the 60s/70s by actual insurrectiony action by commies and others. Posted by: Blonde Morticia at October 28, 2026 03:30 PM (mmrXZ) Lula is a hero to many Brazilians. He was a dirt-poor nobody and eventually rose up to become a union leader during the military dictatorship from the 60s to the 80s. He is idolized by the Brazilian left. They've made feature films about his life. He is popular in Brazil, but for a decade, similar to here, the Brazilian right has become a force again because of the constant march to the left of the nation, and corruption that is endemic among all politicians and bureaucrats. Brazil has its own Religious Right and plenty of anti-communists because they aren't stupid and see what it does to a society. Something unprecedented has happened with Lula covering an 11 million vote spread from the first to the second round while the right won the legislature outright. I believe the race was close, because they are as divided as a country as we are, but no way do I believe Lula pulled out 4.4 million extra votes on Sunday to win. How they cheated, I have no idea. I was there in 1985 when the military relinquished rule to an elected civilian government. Things were completely pacified from the late 60s, when there was lots of spicy violent action on the streets.
My favorite part of Lula's quite implausible explosion of 2nd round support was that a lot of it came from states in the south that are the last place Lula will have much support. Parana, Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul. Fairly European, prosperous, etc. "Conservative" culturally and politically. Posted by: rhomboid at October 28, 2026 03:41 PM (U/Byj) 119

The fascism in world governments become more visible step by step.
Fascism didn't die at the end of World War II. It seems it's pessimistic/realistic theory bled into all the worlds' governments. Russia grew into a state socialism with international aspirations. So aspirationally pure Marxism, but functionally national socialism, i.e., fascism. Even the post-Russia criticism by socialist theorist of Russia was that it doesn't exhibit socialism at alll. No, Russia was "state capitalism". It's just the State played the role of the Capitalist, selling Russian labor in a world market. (Just like North Korea is doing now.) Despite that this argument is a mite specious, it's not a model that we can't work within. There was no pure, lasting Marxism, outside of Cambodia--and that didn't exactly last. Plus a stage of Marxist history is the Dictatorship (in the Name) of the Proletariat, which is a fascist-equivalent state with the social goal of changing man's nature to what is fit for "communism". Thus Marxism has an inherent fascism problem, because it's simply the strongest variation. Among Marxish variations, it really is the survival of the fittest (to survive). There are no hard-fast rules of governance, and the people have to be managed. So, the means depend on the argued need of the ends. As in other regional countries during the turbulent 60s/70s, military rule even with its uglier side had support among the middle class, for obvious reasons. Hubby wanted nothing to do with Brazil, calling it "bad news" for years. We started in Bueno Aries for a week, then got on a ship around the horn (top 5 travel experience!) up the west coast and on through the Panama Canal from the west ending in Ft. Lauderdale. Great trip and we did not miss Brazil even a little bit. Our son and DIL went about six weeks later - started in Chile (for Machu Picchu) ended in Argentina and also really enjoyed it. Just to update, in the CA case:
- CA has admitted they don't check citizenship - CA has admitted they do not have any way to check citizenship - Article II is clear that Congress can pass laws regulating who can vote - Congress has passed a law that only citizens can vote - Congress has passed a law that it is crime to knowingly allow someone to illegally vote So that is why the cartel judge is going to rule: 1) there is no standing for the DOJ to determine who votes in federal elections in CA, 2) it is not a crime to illegally vote in CA if you don't know that it was a crime, and 3) if CA elections officials knowingly let illegally registered voters vote, it is not a crime because they had no way to know they were illegally registered to vote. Plus, as I mentioned, he'll discard all the evidence and then find there was no evidence of vote fraud or people not eligible to vote, voting. > Yanomami myth
A vagina lined with pirhanas. Yow! In other vagina-related mythology, this time from Alaska. In the beginning, Raven was the only creature who had fire, and he guarded it jealously. One winter was extremely harsh, and the humans started freezing to death. A woman volunteered to attempt to steal some fire from Raven, as otherwise she would die anyway. She made up a basket full of Raven's favorite foods and went to his house and sat outside. "Oh, here I am with this delicious food, but I will certainly freeze to death before I can prepare it." Raven heard this and invited the woman in to warm up, on the condition that she share her food. After dinner, Raven went to sleep. The woman quietly picked up a burning coal and put in her vagina (yeah, I know, ouch!), then quickly left. She came home and kindled a fire and the people were saved. When Raven found out, he was angry, and yet, being a trickster himself, he admired the woman. "Your punishment will be this: From now on your vagina will itch and you will long for a man to make it stop itching. When you find a man who can make it stop itching, you will wish for a different man to make it itch again." Posted by: Lulaa at October 28, 2026 04:13 PM (qlLNh) 256

There's a fun trend I've been seeing on Twitter where people are putting their new smart TVs on debug mode, pointing an AI agent at the TV, checking out all of the spyware on it, then doing a bunch of cleanup.
The TVs are watching to see if you're paying attention to the screen. The TVs are watching the screen to detect food, text, sports, which video game you're playing, etc. The microphone is on, listening for certain phrases. They're even counting times they hear a baby crying or pets making noise (barking, meowing, etc). Some will even look for Bluetooth devices that have a microphone if they don't have access to a live mic and try to gain microphone access that way. Lots of people are reporting their TVs go from sluggish to snappy when you remove the spyware and bloatware. Some of the models will refuse to "hack" devices you own. But there are a lot of AI models. If you're not a tech person, I'd suggest not plugging these devices into the network. If you ARE a tech person, try it out. Point a grokbot to your device and see what you can see. Posted by: bonhomme at October 28, 2026 04:14 PM (mkw2N) 263
